Sat nav apps.... What do you prefer? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

And why? Pro's + cons?
I've always used Google maps just because it's there. Never really looked into others but my friend says Waze is great. My dad says sygic is what he uses.
What's your opinions on the matter?

wow. VERY cool app. Doubt enough people use it here in Canada to be as effective as it may be in areas in the States, but still... love the idea of this app. In Google Navigation the Traffic layer actually works pretty decent, so I do like that.
What the OP is asking for though (which I don't believe waze has) is the ability download the maps to your phone for offline access (for use when outside of your mobile data area). I've also wondered what is the best option... you can download sections of areas in Google Navigation but I've heard it's kinda glitchy and it doesn't catch much of an area....
Anyone know of a good GPS app for offline access???
That was my favorite app when I had the iPhone.

I use sygic it works even if you don't have signal cause the maps are stored on the sdcard

What is the best free GPS app?

Coming from Sprint I used the TeleNav which was FREE and flawless. On ATT i only see their app and Mapquest. Any free, dependable and has turn by turn GPS apps you could recommend?
Google maps/navigation?

Dude, Google Navigation is built in and probably one of the best GPS's I've ever used.

Waze, should be the best among the GPS apps in the US.
its uses the internet and the Waze Community to get information about traffic , police and such.
I use Google Navigation. By far the best I've used.

And now you can download some maps to use offline
Helpful when you aware of data.

This. Kind of a no brainer.

I'd definitely have to agree on Waze. Much more interactive, more customizations along with a beautiful interface.

another vote for Waze. It's like stock navigation made better by other users. If you're even a remotely risky driver, Waze will alert you of cops, road hazards, and better-than-default routes during inclement weather, traffic, or whathaveyou.
I'll say Waze too. Been using it since my HTC Fuze.
I recommend SYGIC, it was useful for me when i didnt have data plan on my phone
Trying out Waze...thanks

Depending on where i'm going I use Google navigation or waze. Google seems to be more updated so if I'm going somewhere kind of "out there" I use that but if if it's a fairly common place I'll use waze

How are you guys liking the new Google Maps so far? Click the link for the APK if it hasn't rolled out to your phone yet.

It's a little too "iOS6" for me. I guess I'll get used to it.

Agreed....this is a swift kick in the pants for me. I just got a bunch of family members to start using Latitude and now this. Even if I switched to G+ and got them to, I still have to set it all up from scratch. You can't import your friends from one to the other.
I've really been trying to NOT use Google + but, being a heavy user of Google Talk to chat, Google Voice for SMS, and Google Latitude for location sharing it seems I will have no choice soon.
I downloaded it this morning. I like it. I think the features are nice and its a bit quicker. Seems much more modern to me then the older version. I don't use offline maps, so it doesn't bother me too much.
I think also if you type in "OK Maps" it will save maps for offline.

Cool, thanks for the link. I installed it. It feels much more like Google Now with the 'cards' and layout and the what not.

I took the update from the play store and it looks the same lol, I guess my phone didn't get the new update.... I have the AT&T version.

Did you read the link in the OP?
You can get the new version there and then update it with the Play Store.
If you previously had Location Reporting off, this update to Google Maps turns it back on automatically.

It looks just like the iOS version that's been out for months now, as for functionality... It's better than the iOS version.
I think it's terrible, where have all the features gone? It all seems based around Google+ and social stuff which I don't use... where are my maps? I have a ton of maps that I update regularly on my pc that I use on my devices and now they are all useless.
This is a big step back

Does anybody know if it's possible to map the zoom function to the volume keys since they got rid of the zoom buttons on the screen? It's kind of hard to zoom out with one hand now.

Can't reach Google at this moment?

So within Google Now when I click the little magic looking icon, I try to change my location and it says can't reach Google at this moment?
My friend was able to do it next to me in his Galaxy Mega with no problem.
Any thoughts?

Side Solution:
Found a work around by opening Google Maps, sliding the little tab on the left out and editing the location from there.

Try a different connection type. If you're on wifi, try it on lte, or vice versa.

Planner Plus Alternative?

Hello- I have an iPad as well as a Nexus 5 and this app called Planner Plus is truly fantastic: http://goo.gl/ve21a
Is anyone aware of an app that has similar functionality? I have scoured through the play store but have often found that it's the non-popular apps that work out the best (and sometimes become the next big app)
Thanks!
2do....
