[Q] Verizon's "unauthorized software" message - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I installed a recovery before unlocking the bootloader... Is it possible to temporarily bypass the message so I can get my files? If not, will using Odin to flash the stock firmware delete any personal files/files made by Titanium backup?

Boot into download mode, and hit volume down instead of up to boot into your stock rom.
Are you on 4.1 or 4.3? If you don't know post what it says in download mode. There's an easy fix if you're on 4.1.

Current firmware is official 4.3. How do I unlock the bootloader so I can flash a custom ROM?
EDIT: Did some searching around the forum. Is it even possible to flash custom ROMs on official 4.3?

You can't unlock the bootloader, and there's really no way for you to pull the files either unless you use adb to pull files from specific locations.
Your only real fix is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2586319
Then read all of this so you don't flash anything that will brick your phone again:

Yes
There's a 4.3 download list in that sticky, it has everything you can install.

Be careful with downloading xposed modules for the wrong Galaxy s3 version. When I used google to search for the very specific VZW s3 version of an app it through a thread at me for the wrong version (it was for sprint's s3 I think) and I nearly bricked my phone. It wouldn't let me unlock it. The touch screen just wasn't working and when I turned the screen off the whole phone kept rebooting. Luckily I was able to use odin to fix it.
Good luck!

Getting a replacement few questions.

I discovered a scratch on my screen and need to get this replaced. Right now I'm on Verizon running Android open Kang project jb with an unlocked bootloader.
I want to return my phone to barebones stock do i just flash the stock zip in odin and the bootloader and I would be good to go?
Also if I get this replacement in there different baseband version does this not allow me to Install aokp or other roms

Yes, just Odin stock G1 or F2 image, the do a factory reset, clear all data cache, you should be fine. Your replacement should be a G1 version and you can install any rom over it.

We did, but I actually went thru the process and it doesn't lock the bootloader using Odin.
And if for any reason your bootloader STILL isn't re-locked, you can simply use EZ-Unlock (the app) to do so.

[Q] Flashed a recovery?

Hey guys, I have a problem
I am somewhat experienced in hacking my phone, I was a previous Droid 1, and Droid Bionic owner. I just rooted my S3 today, I downloaded ROM Manager, flashed the CWM Recovery, rebooted and I get this message that says "Secure Fail: Kernel" at the top, and "System software not authorized by VZW has been found on your phone. Please turn off your phone and go to the nearest store for help." I'm not really sure what to do at this point, any help would be appreciated.

What 4g screen? What root method did you use?
You need to odin back to stock, then root your phone again. The newer methods don't always successfully unlock your Bootloader, so you may have to do it manually.
Download ez unlock version 1.2 from a website, then open it and verify it says unlocked. If it says unknown or locked, then hit the unlock button.
Then flash your recovery just like you did before and everything will work properly.

Yes, but if you're on 4.0.4 you might want to take the ota then root.
Or you can use the rootdebug method, it's an old rooting method but will work if you're on ics.

Rom choice is all personal preference, read all the threads and look for the features you'd want. Most of the roms are very good.

Rookie Question

I feel stupid for asking this, but I just wanna make sure. Gonna be downloading LiquidSmooth and I'm supposed to download d2vzw , correct? Answered
Queston 2 - I'm gonna be backing up my IMEI. I know I flash it before a custom ROM, but do I do it before or after I unlock my bootloader? I'm sure it's after, but I just wanna be 100% sure on this stuff. - Answered
Question 3 - What's a bootchain? And should I worry about it after rooting and unlocking?
I don't have a Verizon s3, I have sprint s3, can't say I know how to install the rom or the instructions, but I can say that d2vzw is the Verizon model. (my friend has one)

EDIT - I know I put flash. I'm gonna be using Synergy method where you flash it and it grabs the images and makes them into a flashable zip.

A bootchain is exactly what it sounds like, a sequence of booting steps to boot your phone. It looks something like this:
Modem > sbl1 > sbl2 > sbl3 > aboot > boot(kernel)
After unlocking the bootloader on the phone, you are only changing the aboot step to a very old version that allows the phone to run custom roms. When you change the bootchain in the original step, you are changing the entire bootchain. So to answer your question, you don't have to worry too much with changing the bootchain to the mf1 base because as long as all the bootchain steps trust each other, your phone will have no problem booting up.
The reason the OP wants you to flash another bootchain is simply because of how old it is, and it is generally a good idea to be on the same base for everything on your phone.

I think you're missing the point of how the rooting procedure works. The reason the older bootchain needs to be flashed in the first place is so root can be achieved. Jellybean blocks the rooting process used on Ics, so the only way to achieve root on jellybean is to flash an ICS bootchain to allow the su binary to be placed.
The bootchain shouldn't matter so much because it's only involved with booting the phone. It really shouldn't matter what kind of bootchain you're using because the software version isn't dependant on the bootchain used. It is always a good idea to change the bootchain to the base you are on when you root the phone.
Additionally, if you flash a firmware located in the development section, you will be able to change your modem, tz, and sbl files. This puts you mostly on the correct base.

Verizon Galaxy S III SCH 1535 rooted with casual. Got root access but any custom recovery will not identify OS or any data. Even flashed back to 4.0.4. stock and and stock recovery will not work. [Q] Cant install Custom Recovery

I have tried odin (PC and Mobile), flashify and looked up various other ways but whenever i try to install a clockwork mod i just get a yellow triangle saying i have to bring my phone to verizon. I know the work around is just putting your phone in download mode then hitting cancel but then when i boot into recovery its just the default android recovery, Why cant i get into cwm! please help?!?!?!

If ur on 4.12 gs3 i535. That means u never took the 4.3 ota... I suggested for me this would be the easiest way on my end. Odin to stock and re-root with CASUAL root unlock bootloader and flash recovery of choice... Actually first check if u unlock ur bootloader.

Try EZ-unlock 1.2
If that doesn't work then go back to stock and use CASUAL root.. Very simple
