How to disable journaling? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

On my quest for finding the best for my beloved nexus 5, I found that in the nexus 7 you could disable journaling to improve speed but I can't find anything for the nexus 5 on how to disable journaling so here is the part where the heroes of the xda forum bravely fix my "problem".
edit:
Nexus 7 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2280496

Ext2 has no journalling and thusly was quicker than ext3, but journalling adds much more data integrity so would always recommend sticking with ext3 over ext2
However, we use ext4 which is quick and journals.
Not sure how n7 did it but I really wouldn't recommend it. Its not really "safe".

added the link of the nexus 7 thread.
I realize we lose safety but alot of ppl are saying that that feature is more for servers and that the normal consumer won't be needing it.

I'll have a look at the link.
I can confirm I have had huge issues with data loss and even bootloops due to lack of journalling so do beware

Looks pretty easy to achieve. There's no point removing it from /system as you're not writing data here. I don't know about /cache but I don't see any harm.
/data would benefit the most but is the most risky
Did you read last page of that thread?

Looks to me that all you'd have to do is change /sdhci-tegra.3 to be /msm_sdcc.1 and:
UDA to userdata
APP to system
CAC to cache
But don't quote me on that! (Meaning don't try that on my say so)

Don't forget you'll be using tune2fs packaged in recovery partition as /system is unmounted.

[MOD] i9505g 4.2.2/4.3 Google Wallet Fix + Nfc Secure Element fix even with deodex.

What this is: This is a modification of NfcNci.apk to allow access to the secure element even on deodexed roms. Also included is a version of Wallet that doesn't care about root.
Note: These files are from the 4.3 leak for i9505g, they *Might* work for other builds, if not you can use the writeup to roll your own version.

Here is a version of the same for the 4.2.2 Google Edition build as well.
Thanks to mrvirginia for the zip.

Cool!
Been waiting for this to make its way to our beloved i9505.
One more thing, does this work in Europe? With local currency?
currently my GE zip needs Superuser to be disabled but i will update it here shortly. you won't need to update OP, will be same zip in same location
thanks again for all of your help, Fenny!
edit: zip updated. my wallet no longer cares about root either
Hi folks.
Fyi
I have already done a build for TW roms deodex or odex. Also works on screenoff.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=43370468
Which is in beta. I call it beta as I cant test nfc payment or google wallet as its not available in the uk.
But the bypass has been implemented.
Great work Fenny btw on the google wallet. And your explanation.

This may mean that Google wallet does not like your carrier or region. I will have to take a look at the Google Wallet apk and see if there is something we can bypass on the client side. Are there any Error logs or relevant looking Infornational logs in your logcat when you try?

Sorry I should been more clear. Tested on MrVirginia's ROM and worked perfect. I tried on Jamison's Google ROM and that's when I received the error. I'm not home at the moment to do a logcat. Carrier is T Mobile and location is Virginia.

Hmm, in that case (off the top of my head), perhaps the build.prop has been modified in some way that it's not liking, or maybe a set of lib files has been removed/replaced... Could also be a kernel HW module support thing. Any chance of a logcat?
I do seem to recall MrVirginia's ROM being fairly close to stock...

Either should work. The one here has hard coded values from The i9505G build.prop, but they are the same values as from the ROM you are using's build.prop (I just checked.)
I did a diff of the method names in the NfcNci.apk from the ROM you are using, and the one in the mod. There were indeed differences, so I've built a new version using your Chef's NfcNci as a source.

I can make one later when I am not devving on my home box from my phone via SSH.
You might need to clear data for the Wallet app. The only other thing that I can think of is that maybe the kernel in that ROM is breaking secure storage access somehow.

WiFi doesn't connect automatically, you have to go into settings and click connect.
Installed and running good so far. Like pjim, I also noticed that the camera's are inop. Another thing I noticed is that I'm unable to mount my 64GB NTFS formated uSDCard. I checked the fstab files and the /storage/sdcard1 entries have vfat as the partition type. I tried editing them manually and rebooting, but I'm not having any luck so far.

the fstab is on the initramfs, it will always get reset on reboot. if you want your changes to persist, you need to unpack the boot.img, make the changes, repack and flash

This ROM is built against the LTE US (wx_na_do) board, not wx_na_wf. That means wx_na_wf is not supported.

ROMs available for pixel

I am noticing a paucity of ROMs for the pixel (only the WETA and dirty unicorns) so far. Somewhat surprising for a stock android device. Is there a reason for that?

Some part of it is absolutely GAPPS. DU has it built in rn because there is no flashable GAPPS. This issue though is tied in with the partition scheme I believe.

Yea idk why people think CM is dead. Just getting back up and running on new servers under a different name..
Ask and you shall receive. The post promoting Carbon ROM just showed up, with warning about gApps issues.. Available for download soon. I've always liked this ROM.
Edited 1/1/17: ROM currently has issues with gApps (as in none available yet). Also has issues with slot system. Hang tight!
So I know this thread is 6 weeks old, but there are a good number of ROMs and kernels available now.
I personally recommend PureNexus. I've been using Beanstown106's ROMS since I had a S3, he does great work. I've also just installed ElementalX kernel, which is supposed to be a very battery friendly kernel.
Happy flashing!
