Network mode problems after cm10 and sim switch

I'm using an infuse 4g with JB 4.2.1 cm ROM. I unlocked my phone and put in a T-Mobile prepaid sim.
I'm supposed to have 4g consistently but I'm getting 2g(edge), 3g(umts) and on very rare occasions I get 3g(HSDPA)... Its approximately 70%-%20-%10, respectively. And these changes are all happening in the same household. No tower switching.
I only have the option to switch on 2g only in my network mode settings on cm10... APN settings are correct and all T-Mobile can say is that I won't get 4g if the tower doesn't support it..
Are there any possible solutions to obtain 4g at all?
If so, how do I keep it on all the time?
Do I need to install a new modem?
If so, which?
Any comments and/or answers would be greatly appreciated.

Using Uckl2 at the moment. FYI.
Also, I know the modem is for WiFi but does it affect carrier data? If not what can I change to affect my data connection?

I always thought the opposite. I thought modems were only for mobile data. But does switching modems help?

Could increase or decrease your signal and rate at which data is downloaded and uploaded depending on your modem of choice. Battery life is also affected minimally (usually).

I switched through a couple and uckl2 seems pretty stable but no change on carrier network service.. I want to put on kl3 but I can't find the download.. Not too many options for my phone though.. That I know of.

Since I changed to cm10 and switched to T-Mobile sim I have yet to have 4g. Tried where I'm at now and up to 70 miles from here... Very weird. I can't tell if its T-Mobile or the ROM.

Yeah I had 4g on it before, on att and on metro. Both while using stock Froyo rom and GB aeon rom.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking but when I called T-Mobile, they said that they cannot diagnose a non-tmobile phone. The only info that they can give me is that they assume its my location and possibly the modem but they cannot guarantee switching modems will work. Doubt they hack phones though, Lol

from my recollection..not from experience:
T-mobile or networks other than AT&T will only give you: edge or 3g.
No 4g or hpsa+
to get better than 3g, you need to be on AT&T

When the phone is on "H" I ran a speed test and its pushing 5 to 7 mb download speed. Is that close to 4g?
Any advice on how to stabilize the network?

yup.. 2-6mps for most.
if you are in an urban area and close to a tower, some are reporting 8+
look back in the old threads..i recalled these discussed toward the beginning of device release..jun jul aug 2011 era

[Q] No 4g galaxy s3

So i just bought a galaxy s3 off ebay got it in the mail, put my 4g sim in. But i have no 4g...i know my sims good because i tried it in another phone. I tried restoring to factory using odin, i installed a custom rom and checked my roaming settings and they were all good. Ive 100% wiped multiple times. I am at a loss as to what to do. I can do everything except i have no 4g...only 3g. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

You may need to add the ap info. Go to settings/ more settings/ mobile networks / access point names / click on the apn to view the settings or just manually enter what u see in the pics below. Good luck

they all work with sprint, you just have to enter the right apn. roms are not carrier specific.

really? im on sprint and i just flashed my rom and it works out the box.. i never messed with rpn. i dont even kno what that is.. lol i think it has to do with carrier stuff? im running cataclyzim.. i no i cant spelll for ishhh..:laugh: say i need to change the rpn on a diff rom what do us sprint guys have to change it to??

in settings, more, mobile networks, apn. really, when the sim card goes into the slot and you boot up, the right apn should be there. rarely, youll have to enter them manually. is you plan set up with data, did you call sprint?

Apps and phone are acting weird ?

My nexus 5 has perfect bars on either data LTE or WiFi and most apps say when I open them (Facebook CNET and engadget) say I have no internet connection. I have restarted my phone, put it in airplane mode back and forth. And even contacted Google and they can't tell me what It is.
I need help badly. And as you can see xda works fine lol

This happened to me, only google apps would connect and nothing else. Check your APN settings in mobile networks>access point names. Make sure the selected APN matches with the mobile company you are paying for (Google APN settings <company>). Do you also have any apps that act like a firewall?

APNs are right. And no apps like that .

If you have T-Mobile or metro try adding proxy: 216.155.165.050
Port: 8080
Trying to see if APN really isn't the culprit.

Maybe take off your proxy
Proxy:*web.wireless.bell.ca
Port: 80
If it doesn't do anything I'm afraid thats all I know

Nexus 5 3G connection hangs

Hello, sometimes I have this problem that I randomly can't use 3G data. The 3G icon is still grey (if there's no data its brown), but nothing that requires internet works. Also, the two small arrows near the 3G icon show me that no download is taking place (no down pointing arrow) and only upload arrow is active. Does anyone else have/had this kind of problem?

It happens randomly, I am not willing to test the crawling EDGE and I don't have LTE either. I'll add that my previous phone didn't have this issue.

I had a nexus 4 that cut out and bars went at my mates, a 3 blackspot. My Nexus 5 shows bars but looses data and sometimes says I need to insert a working sim and reboot. None of this happens at home. It's like the phone has a breakdown with a weak signal!

Lte works fine for me I visited london recently and lte didnt cut out once, only happens on 3G and im never in a area with edge coverage to know what happens when I use that

I have this exact problem with mine too. on 3 and stock phone
never had a acceptable answer for it really. i have just taken to putting it in flight mode and back out again and it always works.

I have the same issue? Anyone knows how to solve it?
