[Q] How to boost up performance= - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
do u have some tipps to boost my xoom? After a couple of apps opened (also in background), the xoom reacts very slowly.
Ive got the omnirom 4.4.2, OC to 1.4 GHZ
I also created an SD Swap File of 1 GB
What else could I do? What about ART?
Kind Regards

This might answer, or explain some of your concerns. It will also depend on how demanding the open apps are.
For me, I started having some issues with my xoom a little while back after having flashed, wiped, dirty flashed, wiped dalvik, etc. etc. over a period of about a year. It was my first device that I was flashing and customizing, so made plenty of newb mistakes. Saved my files and did a tibu then, complete unroot flash to stock and lock the bootloader. Unlock, reroot, and it was like a new device.
Hope this helps.

Some Rooting & ROM Questions

Hi,
I've recently used Unrevoke and rooted my phone. I've tried Cyanogen and Ginger Villain, but had a problem with partitioning my SD card, so I'm in limbo at the moment.
However, the partitioning seems to be sorted out, so I'm ready for a final ROM flash and then I can leave it alone. Fingers crossed.
1. Once I've used Unrevoke, do I need to use it again or is it always rooted now? I suspect it is.
2. In the future, if I change ROMs, is it simply a case of backing up, resetting to factory, flashing the ROM and restoring?
3. I have Cyanogen on at the moment, and I love the ADW launcher as it keeps three apps permanently on whatever screen you're on. However, it doesn't support A2SD+ so I'm looking for a Gingerbread ROM with A2SD and ASDW launcher or similar?
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Many thanks and apologies if this information is obvious, but I wasn't able to find it out there.

[Q] Random Questions

Hey all,
Like the title suggests i have few random questions regarding Nexus S.
Hope you guys could adress some if not all questions.
My phone:
Nexus S i9023 SC-LCD 2.3 ginger., running NSCollab and latest Netarchy kernel with BFS, overclocked 100/1300
My questions:
1) i have not yet received an OTA update to 2.4, but since being rooted, ill prolly lose root because of this update, and i would like to know how to go about this, is there an easy way to stay rooted?
2) Does being rooted and having a custom kernel creates problems when updating?
3) I have performed some nandroid back-up's that i think i will no longer use, can i just delete the ones im not gonna use safely from the sd-card?
4) I use Titanium backup Pro, when i loose root, can i use this to restore the Apps i currently run on my phone, so that i dont have to reinstall them manually?
5) I have experienced some random reboots, just once or twice, but i do have a lot of sim-pin reboots, where the phone suddenly ask for my pin code, could this be caused by overclocking, tbh it runs buttery smooth for daily use, or does anyone know of a reason for this?
Thnx in advance for awnsering, if i have some more questions ill ask them later if anyone doesnt mind!
Fmbl,

[Q] Problem with 1.6 Kernel

I Know this should be in the Developer section, but I don't have enough posts. (Since you have to have at least 10 to do so...)
BUT, I installed a kernel from Blades which is the 1.6ghz with the latest version of CWM. The problem is that whenever I try to boot up the device it just stays on the first startup screen, and it also makes a weird popping noise from the speakers about every 10 seconds. I did wipe Dalvik Cache and I also made a back up before installing the new kernel. I've tried restoring but it does the same thing every time. Before installing the kernel I was running PRIMEORDIAL! v3.1...
Any help would be greatly appreciated....
Thanks
cdp
Hi Mate, You are not the only one. Unfortuantely 3.0.1 kernels don't work too well with 3.1 roms as you have discovered.
Not to worry though as this is an easy fix.
Simply flash the 3.1 stock kernel and you're up and running again. You can get it from here... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14283676&postcount=94
Wow, I didn't even realize that kernel was only for 3.0.1 lol. THANK YOU! Flashed it and it started right up! C:
You may now have wifi problems, since the kernel update will have installed a different module to the one you need, if this is the case just reflash whatever rom you are using.
Okay cool, I'm on wifi now and it seems to be working fine. So thanks again! :]

A little of both. I got a promotion at work that ate up a lot of my free time, plus I fell into a sweet deal on the HP Touchpad. It has been a lot of fun putting Android on a device like that. For the last few months, I've been using my phone as... well, a phone. I just got soooo many emails and requests for me to make some new videos for the XT720 that I felt a level of obligation to return. I really enjoyed this group of people and I am glad to be back into the mix of things. I talked to Mioze about a few things that are coming down the tubes, so hopefully there is more to come!
Thanks , an awesome video for me ! So you are not going to make a video for swap ? Anyway , this is really helpful !

You don't need swap. I have yet to find a value to having it. At first, I did it, along with everyone else, but never saw an increase that was worth the trouble. I don't like having to use a computer every time I need to reboot.
Trust me, the phone is more stable and easier to use without swap. It's much better on battery life too, IMHO.
I agree. I have never used swap on a regular basis. Also I have ditched App2ext as well and just use native Froyo app2sd. I just don't have that many apps that I use regularly to take up space on a partition that I realy don't need. Would rather fill that up with music or videos. IMHO if you have an EXT partition greater than 350mb, you are just wasting space.
My current SD card is 100% FAT32. Works great.
What do you do with the apps? How many installed and how much space left?
I am just doing the same-no partitions and it is okay. Just trying a bit with ho!no!, Miui and the other ROMs ...
Ho!No! CM7.1.0.6 ICS Edtion - Milestone XT720

Thanks. I'm flattered.
Yeah, in terms of apps and the space they take up, you can still use the native "Move to SD Card" option. It works fine with just a FAT partition.
There is also an app called Move2sd enabler that will move those apps that aren't set up with native. Nit sure if still in market or not but ill upload later on when I get home. Obviously though, no Widgets go on SD bc they wont work right, unless they have a widget pack designed for app2sd.
Edit::: Don't have the apk on my phone for some reason but here is the market link. https://market.android.com/details?...mNvbS5sZWluYXJkaS5zZXRpbnN0YWxsbG9jYXRpb24iXQ..
I will prefer link2sd because I always installed new apps into my phone and to save more space , i need to link lib file and dalvik-cache as well
The video is excellent, and your work Wow! really excellent, i want know all about your work, few days ago i buy a milestone xt720 and now upgrade 2.2, follow the cincinnati bell froyo´s update, but now i want to install the cyanogemmod that you show.I hope that you show at all you fans, the last videos about your milestone XT720, updates, roms, the best form to improve the mobile, and improve the memory to aplications because the internal memory is to little. I wait excyting one video about to improve de memory of the xt720. You are the best!
Sorry but my english, but my native languaje is the spanish and learn.
Eres Grandioso reverendkjr tu trabajo me ha ayudado mucho y a todos los hispanohablantes que quieren realizar estos procesos pero poco entienden ingles para seguirlo, nuevamente mil GRAcias!!
I made the process to install de cyanogenmod, but my TX720 have the upgrade 2.2 froyo´s cincinnati bell, then i flash my phone whit the RDS lite(only works in my windows XP:reconigze the file .sbf) the rdslite no works in my windows7(i do not why). I follow the video of the master reverendkjr to do the flash, then my mobile downgrade the 2.1update, now i realize the process to install cyanogenmod 6.3, and work wonderful, thank for your videos, again are the best!!!
Hi there, thank you very much for your video tutorial Reverend, it helped me greatly last night with installing my new rom. However, I stopped short of putting the rom you list here, instead I installed Bravo.
I'm really missing alot of the features of CM that I got fond of on my old LG, tho, so am considering going to CM.
One thing that I really like about Bravo's rom is his LED Notification thing. Does CM 6.3 as listed in this thread have a similar LED notification for messages calls etc?
Also...if I did decide to go to CM 6.3, given that I followed your Open Recovery method..theoretically I should just be able to nandroid restore my 2.1, wipes etc, do a factory reset, and then continue on from where I departed from your tutorial, ie updating to 6.3...correct?

LED notifications aren't working yet in 6.3, but molohov's been working on it so we'll probably have it working in the next weeks. To install other ROMs, you don't reflash back to your 2.1--just (1) make a backup of your current ROM (2) install the new ROM and (3) factory reset.

Ok, sounds like a great development, really cool feature of Bravo`s.
I wish I had waited...I went back to my stock 2.1. Doing so highlighted a couple of things I guess I had second guessed: The icons for Ultimate Androot and System Recovery disappeared. Ok, so I just copied them back over and reinstalled their apks.
But..before I did that, once I had flashed back the stock...everything went back to how it was as I originally got it from Wind..if I used Androots `unroot` function, even the SuperUser app was removed and it looked like the phone was back to OEM...except...when I try to power down, there is that option to Reboot into Recovery. This says to me that Open Recovery wasn`t really removed just because I formatted my SD card, wiped everything imaginable and unrooted the phone...so how would I go about completely getting rid of Open Recovery if I absolutely had to..the flash back to stock brought everything even the logo and all back, so it looked good to go to warranty on the surface..
But at least I`m back to square 1, ready to try out these other versions 6.5, 7.1, etc

I'm not sure why you're seeing that menu in the shutdown--AFAIK it's hard to put it there in the first place on stock. The only way to truely get back to stock is by flashing a sbf and for all we know Motorola could be able to detect that too. Supposedly they haven't been too big of jerks about it. Unfortunately, we don't have the Wind sbf. Someone (S7ticky, I think) gave me a nandroid of a nearly-prestine Wind ROM. http://www.multiupload.com/ST9FEG833N I'm pretty sure it's rooted and has the OpenRecovery bootstrap, though. The other problem is that OpenRecovery automatically reinstalls the bootstrap after restoring a nandroid. See the discussion here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1079714
You can also unroot/unbootstrap manually using adb from openrecovery or someone could make an update/script that does it if necessary.
Good info to know, thanks!
I have a nandroid that I did immediately out of the box, also..but of course, I had used Open Recovery to do it lol..so yeah..
I`m probably pushing it with all these questions but I got really interested in SuperCharger and the related discussion...and my eyes started to water reading zepplinrox op..I`d like to overclock, I think, to at least a point of normal stability..will SuperCharger help with RAM I dont want to get clogged up, and is there a slightly less confusing guide for usage with say CM6.3 or 7.1...how to install etc..do I have to do partitions with SuperCharger
I know wayyy less than I thought

[Q] Phone reboot help!

My issue has been plaguing me for several weeks now. I just stared developing for Android, so I'm a bit of a noob (forgive any obvious mistakes that I have made, or do make)
I have an HTC EVO 3D that I got about 8 months ago. One of the first things I did after I got it was root the puppy and flash a custom Gingerbread ROM to it. That worked great as a development tool for a while, with no issues, whatsoever.
After some time, I updated my custom Gingerbread ROM to a custom ICS ROM, which again, worked fine, minus the minor inconvenience of it occasionally rebooting when I would hit the debug icon on my IDE (Eclipse). That would only happen every once and a while. However, one day last week, all it did, when I hit debug, was reboot. I figured that the ROM was bad in some way, and flashed a custom JellyBean ROM to it. Same issue. I flashed another JB ROM(CM 10), with the same issue. After that, I've done everything that I can think of to fix this issue. I've tried flashing everything that Clockwork would let me flash (Dalvik, cache, did a factory reset, etc) I tried reformatting the SD card, and even tried 3 new ones. I tried reflashing the ROM, I tried 3 other computers, and even re installed Windows on one of them! In my experimentation, I have discovered that it also reboots when I try to record video with the native JB camera (I say that because I installed another camera app from the Play Store, and that works fine).
I'm thinking maybe a memory leak? I honestly have no idea.
HTC EVO 3D
HBOOT 1.40
S-OFF
Thanks in advance
Next step is to use the Eclipse debugger and read the debug output once it crashes/reboots. The output from the debugger will provide more information about what happened so you can start narrowing the problem down more.
It's a memory or cpu problem (i guess) . Try the cpu a bit lower. I hope it will help you
If you have flashed your phone allot, and you have under clocked your CPU first, it may be a NAND issue. It has been a problem on my end with the HTC HD2 after like 1000+ flashes. You should be able to use a tool to check for bad NAND blocks, don't remember off the top of my head what it was called when I used it but that's something you could do. That is all (if) you have not tried to under-clock your CPU first and make sure the ROM is not bugging out like it sounds like it is.
Another way to test your NAND is to try a SD ROM that runs on your MicroSD card.
