Why don't the overflow dots show up in Chrome? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've had this issue for as long as I've had my N5, which I bought at launch. My issue is that the overflow button has never shown up at the top of Chrome's address bar the way it does on my N7. I have to add a menu key to my pie controls just to get to the menu. This is the only app where this happens. Here's a screen shot:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Anyone know how to get the overflow button back? I Googled it, but didn't find an answer.

Does it appear with a navbar and no pie?

I don't know as I've had my nav bar disabled pretty much as soon as I got it. I still use the nav bar on my N7 and it never shows the overflow button in the nav bar. I thought KitKat did away with that.

The overflow button normally wouldn't appear on the navbar, but Gravity box has an option to put it there. I'm wondering if, for some reason, Chrome thinks it's on your navbar, which you have disabled.
I stand by my original suggestion. See if it makes a difference. At least then we will know where to look.

You were right. When I switched back to the nav bar the overflow button showed back up in the address bar. Any idea how to make it show up when using pie controls? I'm using LMT for my pie, not GB. I looked through all the LMT options, but didn't see anything I thought would do it. I guess the next step is to post this question in the LMT thread unless you have a solution. Thanks for your help.

How are you getting rid of the nav bar? Instead of removing it, try setting to height 0 or vice versa

idea for an app

Im pretty sure theres nothing like this out there, but i think it would be really cool if you could hide the notification bar and only have it show when you pull it down on the top of the screen. I think it would look much cleaner.
So your screen would look like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
until you pulled the bar down on the top of the screen.
There is an action in launcher pro that allows that. Or something similar.

There is an ADW.Launcher setting that already allows this. There another setting to hide the dock too.
Yeah I use it in lp. Don't like having the time show in two places on one screen. It pops up everywhere else but home, real nice.

So far the only thing I don't like about it is I wish I could still swipe down and pull the bar down. Like how it looks though.

Just hit the menu key and then you can swype it down
Edit: preferences _ behavior _ home key action. Set to open/hide status bar. Works great!

Mistakenly pressing Multitask button twice...

....stalls the phone big time!
I've had the One S and I love this freaking phone. So far it is such a step forward compared to my Sensation 4G that it's not even funny.
I have run into a pretty annoying glitch/bug and I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this: when pressing the multitask button twice in quick succession will cause the phone to lock pretty hard for a couple of seconds. The notification bar disappears, phone locks up completely, then when you hit home/back the notification bar is gone for a couple of seconds. When it comes back it is black.
Now, this would be a minor annoyance if it wasn't for the fact that the buttons are so sensitive that they pick up a press even if my thumb is just hovering slightly above them. Because they are so sensitive, it causes this to happen more often than I'd like to deal with on a daily basis.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem?
As an aside, does this also sometimes cause the clock on the top notifications bar to disappear on the lock screen? I've included the screenshot below to explain:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Well I'm running a custom rom so I can't test your multitasking problem..
But it is normal for the clock in the notification bar to disappear when on the lock screen. You have the huge 5:00 clock. So the lockscreen removes the notification bar clock
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using Tapatalk 2
I can confirm this. Just tried and mine stalls as well.
Edit: I don't lose the clock on the notification bar though (on lock screen).

I can't get mine to stahl up at all doing this. Odd....
Sent from my HTC One S
i can confirm this is happening (not always though) on stock, unrooted. would love to adjust the sensitivity of those buttons too.
No problem here. Stock and not rooted.
Edit: Never had the clock disappear off the lock screen either. Something strange going on there.
No lag at all on LeeDroid's ROM. All instantaneous
as far as locking up the phone when hitting the multitask button twice quick, it doesnt happen to me at all.
the clock disappearing on the top notification bar is normal. thats the way ics is. i had the galaxy nexus stock and it did the same thing. i guess there is no point in having the little clock on the notifications bar when u got a big clock on the lock screen its self
My clock doesn't go away on the lock screen, and I don't get any lag when double tapping the multi task button. TMoUS HOS.

[Q] Anyway to make the top left of the screen more accessible?

I love my nexus 5 but UIs that require me to touch the top left of the screen are hard to reach. Is there any way to apply a per app hack where the top bar can be stretched or maybe lowered? I appreciate I won't be using all of the screen but it will be worth it for a few specific instances e.g. gmail and hangouts.

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying your problem is. Everything should be adjustable per your preferences by default. Maybe you can elaborate in more detail.
Had this issue with my Samsung note 2... One of the reasons I bought the nexus 5 is it fits my hands and my thumb can reach the entire screen. This doesn't answer your question but it was my solution to this problem.

Your picture actually did a great job of explaining what you meant to say. I understand now.
Silly question/statement, but do you know that pressing the "Back" arrow in most cases such as that should take your back to where you were. Most often, that specific option like you displayed, that you can't reach, can be activated the same way by hitting the back button.
There are however, plenty of apps and situations where you need to hit an option in the top left corner and the back button will NOT do this action. I have big hands and have gotten used to being able to tap something on any section of my screen.
You could try installing a mod/app to enable custom gestures in which you can swipe a gesture towards the right and set it to that function. (ex: gesture enabled when you swipe from the center of the right towards the middle, it activates a "back" option.
You can try installing "GMD Gesture Control" for this.
Just a suggestion?
Thanks for your reply! I didn't realise the back button could cater for some of these scenarios. I also didn't realise I could swipe from the left for a lot of these apps. This caters for most of the scenarios so I'm happy now, thanks!
Grabbing anywhere on the left edge of the screen and sliding right does the same as pressing the icon up high. Same goes go for play store.
good day.

[Q] Don't know how to do this simple setting!!

I want to add more icons like 3G toggle , NFC toggle, and more, but I failed to know where on earth I have to go! I'm running default KitKat 4.4.2 and default launcher , any help? ><

you need a custom ROM for that, stock android does not allow modifying tiles. I don't know if you can modify tiles with xposed module so you can stay stock? Never used it haha.

if you're on stock, you can change them by installing xposed framework and adding the gravity box module. Here's a video showing you how to do it.

Also, note that gravity box is incompatible with the ART runtime, so it will set you back to the Dalvik runtime.

Can you confirm that the extra toggle bar doesn't interfere with notifications that include media control buttons? (Something like Amazon MP3 or Google Music, that show the current track with play/pause and skip buttons)
Normally if there's a notification "stuck" to the top then the track name will show but the buttons won't.

OPO new user - how to?

Hi,
I've just bought a used OPO from a friend and have a couple of doubts in how to customize some functions..
How can I customize buttons to reverse long press home for recent apps and long press menu for google?
How can I remove phone from lock screen?
Can I remove google bar from recent apps?
Probably I'll have some more doubts later on, but I'd already be happy with these answers I couldn't find myself on Google.
Thanks.:good:

Search bar is disabled in home but not in recent apps.
This is what I mean by phone in lock screen.
Thanks.
in about phone, turn on advanced mode, the options should be available in buttons. you can customise your lockscreen in settings.
It worked!! Thank you so much! I was also able to remove recent apps search bar in display settings.
no problem
One more question if you don't mind.. Why can't I select same wallpaper image for home and lock screen? I can select and adjust home wallpaper position to where I want, but lock screen I only found option in themes but doesn't allow adjustment.
In my nexus and Samsungs I usually went to Gallery select image and clicked "Set as Wallpaper" - Home and Lock Screen", but in OPO this option is not available..
Thanks.
