KitKat Homescreen - Navigation bar background shadows - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Is there a way to get rid of them?
I use fullscreen mode with LMT Launcher and still, there is this shadow where the navigation buttons used to be.
No matter which launcher I use, it seems to be integrated into the system.
I hope its just some png file, but I havent found it yet in SystemUI or frameworkres. Any hints?
Thanks!

LauncherPro Plus 0.8.3 Hide/Remove Dock ?

Hi,
Is it possible to remove the dockbar form LauncherPro ? Or even hide it ?
Remove all the shortcuts and turn off the dock background. That should do it.
Ok, so removing works good.
Could you also help me with changing dock in LauncherPro ? I downloaded new docks from xda, and want to replace the old one. How to do that ?
Press menu ,prefrences ,appearence ,dock background ,select custom and pick the dock you want to use from your gallery ,simples

Is there any way to actually use the space for desktop icons as the ADW launcher does (expand desktop)?
I like the smoothness of LauncherPro but I like some of the features of ADW but don't like its lag.

I've gone back to ADW for this reason. I'd have prefered to use LP but there is no way to do what you're asking with it.

Translucent status bar

I'm looking to get a translucent status bar on the homescreen, using Go Launcher.
Am rooted, but don't seem to be able to find any mods that can do it? Preferably would like to be able to choose %wise how translucent it is.
Here is an example from the HTC One showing it, and on my S4 lockscreen it does it. But would like it on the home screen too. When i'm in apps its fine to remain black.
Anyone know?
I'm pretty sure the launcher has to support statusbar transparency, and I don't know if Go Launcher does or not. Go Launcher sucks anyway; use Nova instead.

Ah is it just part of the launcher, that makes sense then. I'll give Nova a try.
Thanks!

Well, technically, it's not part of the launcher...it's still part of the rom's system UI. But the launcher has a bit of control, and can enable or disable the transparency. When the launcher doesn't support transparency, the rom views that as "disabling" it, and the statusbar is opaque. But you get the idea.
EDIT: Wait, hold the phone. What rom are you running?

How to show recent apps with swiping bottom->up in kitkat?

To see the list of recently called (active) apps - I have to long-press "Menu" button, which is not very comfortable. How to make it work with swiping on screen upward? Are there any configuration settings for that in kitkat?

If you are rooted you can try with xposed framework and gravity box or some other modules that allow you to change your navbar settings or your hard keys configuration.

I do have root, but xposed - or rather its modules, but it's almost the same - does not work at my phone (Alcatel Idol X+).

You can have this gesture, but not while using an app. That's because this would interfere with scrolling or possible app gestures.
I have the exact gesture set to open recent apps with Nova Launcher.
Install Nova launcher, go to Nova settings, gestures and buttons and set the swipe up gesture to open Recent Apps.
This will work when you are on one of your home screens, but not in apps, like I said.
Hope this helps.
Cheers

Hi, thanks. The matter is that I use the launcher, which I don't wish to change. I've been using it for a while and I find it the most suitable for me. It's Launcher Pro. Mostly because it allows to make a bottom bar of shortcuts scrollable, fitting there more than 4-5 icons. Also it's quite fast and does not drain battery.

Nova launcher does this as well. It's incredibly light and fast. Very customizable. Give it a shot. You might like it.
It's considered by many the best android launcher.
I have the paid version and nova launcher is always my first installed app after flashing any rom.
To activate the dock (bottom bar) pages, go to nova settings, dock, dock pages. You can also set the number of dock icons and a lot of other stuff actually
Cheers

Thanks, the launcher itself is good, but as to swiping action - it seems does not solve my problem. The swiping works if it happens on blank zone. On my Meizu firmware, when I, for instance, had some PDF opened full-screen - I could swipe from bottom of screen or side - if being in landscape orientation - and recent apps bar appeared, so I could call dictionary or encyclopaedia, whatever, and the same way back. It was fast and comfortable. Here it does not work...

Yep. Like I said, it only works from one of the home screens. Don't know what else to suggest unfortunately

In case someone is interested, more or less normal way to do it - "All in one gesture" application. It adds a small "hot spot" zone to drag from.

how to make nav bar black?

Just got the device, like it, but can't figure out how to make the nav bar black, or any instructions for a non Galaxy S phone. Is it possible, with or without root?
Only with Nova launcher, & not system wide.

Question How to remove google search bar from home screen + add % in QS?

Do you guys manage somehow to remove search bar from the home screen with Pixel launcher and add % display in QS? I checked the mods in pixel 6 pro thread, but don't know if they will work on A13/7 pro.

Hello. I got the phone today. And that's the first thing that bothered me. But as far as I could find the information, it is not possible to remove it.

Not possibe on stock launcher
Maybe with aosp mods ( you will need lsposed)
I just use Nova launcher 8.0.3 beta with Nova Google companion. It's a heck of a lot easier and it lets you hide the notification bar as well.
I use LawnChair as Launcher. It is imho nicer then the stock one and has more features and you can remove the search bar from home screen
I wish they would allow you to do this instead of a third party launcher - the animations in third party launchers are not great compared to stock.

Not sure what you mean by the "animations" but I use Nova Prime and 3 button navigation, and everything works great. I used gesture navigation for awhile but got tired of it a couple of years ago and went back to button navigation and never looked back.

When you swipe away an app it animates the app going back into the icon in a fluid way. Third party launchers can't do this.
Use Pixel Launcher Mods to hide apps, enable icon packs, and change out the at a glance or searchbar widget. It requires Magisk.
In order to blank either of the widgets you need an empty widget, I prefer The Empty Widget on the Play Store since it has zero permissions and nothing superfluous. You can then use the hide apps function to hide the icon.
In order to modify the QS you will need AOSP Mods which requires Magisk and LSPosed. The Xposed version is the minimum, but if you download the Full version it will come with overlay themes to allow you to remove the navbar, change fonts, theme the QS, and change the system icons style.

Does this method to hide the searchbar widget move the icon drawer down to fill the gap?
Not seen anything on the stock launcher that makes it worth putting up with the limitations. Even when mods are used, it's still clunky and limited (for example, you can't change icons for individual apps).
Nova for me, far better and it does everything the stock launcher does and more. I've always found some people being desperate to stick with stock a bit strange.

With the Pixel Launcher mod you can change icons for individual apps while using the stock Pixel Launcher.
I've used Nova, Lawnchair and Hyperion for years and years but am currently using the stock Pixel Launcher with the Pixel Launcher mod to change icons and a Substratum theme to get rid of the gesture pill. Not desperate, just a personal preference. I guess I would fall into the strange category
Wich substratum theme are you using?
Can you had some screenshots?
Thx

No, you are not removing it but rather replacing it with another widget which is just going to be a blank one.

It is a Substratum theme (FSIM-Version1.apk) for this Magisk mod. You can find it via the Telegram link in that Github repo.
Ahh ok...but needs root
A happy Nova user here, what you want is what you get

I took prefer to do this. Pixel Launcher Mod has something that Lawnchair used to have but no longer does if I'm not mistaken, but the ability to apply multiple icon packs at once pretty much keeps all your icons themed at(I normally have 3-4 applied) all times.
Ok, I checked out the pixel mod again. It offers a lot but still falls well short of making the Pixel launcher an everyday use for me.
For example, you can't get rid of both the top and bottom bars at the same time (not the mods fault, I know). And my main issue with it is that you can't change the grid size so you're stuck with 4 columns and 5 rows which simply isn't enough for me.
So whilst the animations and smoothness are nice, they're not nice enough for me to put up with the stupid limitations Google have put in place.

For what it's worth, the stock Pixel Launcher goes up to 5 x 5.
