[Q] Country-restricted Play Store app updates - General Questions and Answers

I had to sideload a Korean music app (Melon / 멜론) because it's not downloadable outside Korea, per it's link https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.iloen.melon&hl=en
Anyway, I read that if you sideload an app that is on the Play Store with it's correct app name, it will automatically attach to your account. However, I do not find this to be the case, as I have had it for some weeks now and there is a newer version out but I don't see it on My Apps in Play Store, and if I access it's direct page through the app with that link, there is a giant black bar that basically says "F U BUDDY, NO DICE" covering where the "update / uninstall" buttons normally are.
My question is - has it just not attached because it's not allowed in the USA? Or... if I buy Titanium Backup Pro and try to attach it that way, will the updates start working (since I already have the app installed) ?
I'm just curious because I already have an account with Melon and can technically use the app but would prefer not to have to keep sideloading updates.
I tried using some VPN application to connect through Japan (I know this is not the same as Korea ) after stopping Play Store and wiping it's data and cache, and turning off mobile data (wiped everything while in Airplane mode) but that didn't make a difference.
Thanks in advance!

I decided to buy Titanium Backup Pro and try force-attaching it. Still doesn't show up in Play Store and if I get it's link open externally still has the black bar over the area where update / open / uninstall should be

Here is a solution:
Go over to this thread.
Download the APK.
Move apk to your SD card.
Use My Files to navigate to SD card then Select and install the downloaded APK.
Navigate to new Google Play Store.
Let me know if it doesn't work.
The day my Market upgraded to Google Play Store I wasn't able to open it either. What I did was went to settings/applications/manage applications and navigated to Market, I cleared cache and data and then uninstalled updates. After that was done I went back to my app drawer and opened the Market, it was the old version, and let it update itself again until it finally was again Google Play Store.
Problem solved

Playstore update . 3.9.16

Hi all heres the latest google playstore
3.9.16
Download: http://beta.androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390135922294521859
Google just started rolling out an updated Google Play Store version 3.9.16 that follows the previous version 3.8.17 from August. Good news, everyone - we've already got our hands on the APK for you to install manually thanks to our loyal tipsters.
What's New
The most notable and immediately apparent new feature is the long overdue ability to remove apps you've previously downloaded from the All Apps list. If you like to try a lot of apps, that list is likely very cluttered. With the new Google Play, you can trim it to your heart's content.
Update #1: You can multi-select by long-pressing any app in the list and then tapping more apps, then delete them all in one go (added 2 new screenshots demonstrating it).
Update #2: The new Play Store now keeps track of your location in lists, including My Apps and All Apps, so when you click into an app and back, it drops you into the same spot. I had variable luck with this, and it didn't seem to work in All Apps at first, but I just reproduced it on both the EVO LTE and the Nexus 7. Brilliant.
Update #3: The notification icon that shows up when you have app updates has changed, and notifications are now expandable. I've added more screenshots showing the differences.
The size of the Play Store APK actually went down, so Google must have trimmed some extra fat. We're still digging through everything
Thanks androidpolice
Finally! I wonder though.. will it decrease app download amounts? Obviously if people remove it, it wasn't something they liked..

I'm on paranoid android 2.2 rom on my Nexus 7, I have gapps ending in "26" installed, which I believe are the gapps from August, and installing this gives me an error message "conflicting signatures".....I don't even have the play store under "downloaded" apps like you would normally find it, but it is under the "all" tab. It was suggested that I rename the apk to "phonesky" and copy it to system/apps, I don't even see "phonesky" anywhere in the files, it's not on my Nexus 7. Can someone please help me out of the know what I can do to get this installed? It's so baffling that a simple apk won't install.
I would appreciate any help at all. Thank You.

There won't be any issues with updating the app. ( I'm not sure about paid apps, but they should be fine too I guess) They are rolling it out at some places, it will be available to everyone soon.
And follow what altered said to remove it.

If you don't want to have to deal with downloading this and installing the apk, you can get it to update on its own by going to manage apps then play store services, and then clearing the data. After you have done that, open up the play store and it will have updated on its own.
Anyone have a link to download the inverted version?

I found one, but for some reason it just FCs on my phone. Its a CWM flashable zip.
Try if it works for you. http://db.tt/dMlJzMzX
Or just google for it. There are many sites offering it.
you need to unnistall play store's updates, then go and delete any play store files from within /data/app folder then place downloaded Phonesky.apk inside system/app folder if prompt say yes on replace file , if not , delete vending.apk ,set permissions , reboot and enjoy , just disable all internet connections during that process
Edit : found it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1231787
Edit2: follow my directions flashable zip doesn't work for us, extract phonesky.apk from zip file

Sorry for the hurried response.
There are a handful of reasons why app is incompatible.
1) android version - some apps are not compatible with android versions .updating your android version will work .
2)hardware -let's say that I want to shoot a 360 panorama. But my device has no gyromerter ,so I may get incompatible or they may let me download but the app won't work perfectly.
3)geo restrictions- some apps cannot be installed in some country or the app hasn't been released yet for that country. Enabling proxy and changing your location may or may not work.
Now for by " already did it " you mean you already installed then good for you.
But keep in mind that cm11=KitKat that is android4.4.x
Using cm11 don't mean that your device is updated there is still cm12/12.1(lollipop) cm13(marshmallow).
If you want more help cite the app you want installed and I'll go over the device requirement.
PS:if the problem is geo restrictions ,then using apps like tunnelbear, market helper and searching for the app in chrome store may help
