[Q] Trying to root - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm trying to root my Nexus 5 using Chainfire's download on my Mac, but the terminal keeps telling me it can't find the files even though the unzipped file is on my desktop. What do I do? What's the problem? Thanks.

Hello,
I would recommend you to follow this thread. : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2507905
Read it carefully and start rooting! Good luck!

Learning to Root/Flash

Hello,
I am trying to root my G2 phone and am trying to setup the ADB part of it.
I am trying to setup ADB using this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865685
INSTALLING ADB ON WINDOWS - METHOD B, THE "QUICK" WAY, NO SDK
However, the link for the file appears to be gone for step two. Curious as to where I could find it.

The links worked for me. I don't know why they don't for you.
Did you try this link below...
Step 2
Download this zip archive and unzip it somewhere memorable on your PC (e.g. into a folder on your desktop) - http://dl.google.com/android/reposit...01-windows.zip
It gives a 404 error. Where else can I find that download file?

[Q] Programs to open up .bin files.

I'm trying to root my HTC Evo 4G. I'm doing it through the steps given at HTCdev.. I started off by trying to unlock my bootloader. I was just one step away from accomplishing that until i hit a speed bump. I received an email from them talking about downloading a .bin file. I tried downloading it and it wouldn't let me open it. I need to open it so i can save it to my hard drive and continue on with the process. I've tried downloading the programs my computer recommended... no help at all. I was wondering if any of you out there have a good program to download so i can open up this .bin file correctly.. if so, please post a link to the download. It would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks guys!
I don't think you open the bin file, rather just flash it.
Scratch that didn't realise you meant on your computer

How to flash?
So, how would I flash the file? I'm kind of new to this stuff, but I really want to root my phone. Is there a more easier way to root my phone other than the way given at HTCdev?
Not sure if it works, haven't tried it but just came across this http://www.androidpolice.com/2010/0...cluding-unlocking-nand-and-flashing-recovery/
Hope it helps

[Q] Rooting Nook Simple Touch - stuck, please help!

Hi
I'm a bit of a noob to be honest so please be patient! I'm trying to root my NST. I've followed the instructions here over at nookdevs.com/Nook_Simple_Touch/Rooting/Manual
I've followed the instructions all the way through right to the final # but when I turn my nook on it just boots to the normal screen. I can't work out what's wrong.
Here's someways I might be going wrong but can't be sure.
1. I've managed to write the image to the microSD. I put it in the Nook and turn it on - and I get the splash screen 'rooted forever'. I then connect the nook to my mac by usb and copy over the uRamdisk file to the 'root' partition using Finder. Am I ok to use Finder to simply copy and paste the uRamdisk file over? Or do I need to do it through the Terminal? If so how do I do that? (remember I'm a noob! Thanks!)
2. The instructions don't specify which uRamdisk file I should be copying over - the usb one or the wireless one. I've tried both and when I use the usb one I find I can't connect to the nook using adb over the wifi.
I've wasted hours on this now so I really hope someone can give some advice. To be clear I'm doing this on a mac and don't have easy access to a Windows machine (sadly!)
Thanks in advance

[Q] Flashtool

Hi guys, I'm trying to use flashtool for the first time in order to downgrade my phone so that I can root my phone. I have been following the video that is posted in the rooting guide & am stuck on the downloading of flashtool part!
I have downloaded it fine but problem is, i only have a shortcut to flashtool & no folders like in the video? In this case, how would i copy & paste the required ftf file into the firmware folder when all i have is a shortcut to it?
Sorry for the noob question!
Hope someone can help me quick, I'm going insane! Thanks
Nevermind, please delete this, problem solved!
