[Q] Menstruation calendar - Application for Android smartphones - General Questions and Answers

Hello,
For a school project I have to make a menstruation/ period tracking application for an Android phone.
I found a menstruation application on Github and I imported the project into Netbeans 7.4
Menu's are working properly. But it seems the application hasn't been finished.
The calender isn't showing up.
Maybe I can make an other calender in the application. But I don't know how I put those values in a calender.
How can calculate within a calender.
Values that must be in the calender are :
predicted date of menstruation
Ovulation period (14th day)
Most fertile/productive days (high change pregnancy) = (4 days before ovulation period)

github.com/apssouza22/app-calendario.git"]https://github.com/apssouza22/app-calendario.git
Or maybe some one has a nice example.
I know there are already other ovulation apps/ menstruation tracking apps. But the design has too be a little less girly.

Ultimate calendar

I'm looking for ultimate calendar - a calendar with name-day, all holidays, moon phases, sunrise time , and small calendarium. ( historical events in that day, famous people birthdays and so on )
There was one for ppc 2002 called - "kalnedarz" ( Polish application ) but it wasn't updated since 2001 and it wont work on WM6.5.
There's plenty of official and unofficial holidays everyday - today we have 10.03 and it's official Men Day, tomorrow we have "headman" day, and on 14.03 there's PI ( 3.14.... ) day.
Do You know something good ? It can be RSS channel even, or local application.
Anyone ? ? ?
you can take every calendar app you like (I prefer mvcal http://www.portablepim.de)
take all your dates, import to your preferred desktop calendar (outlook) and sync them to your phone. done.
hmmm. ok - moon phases could be difficult.
I don't really have time to input / import all fancy information into my outlook, in "kalendarz" application there was data about every day, 365 days, and about 30 or 40 information in each. If I will ever find time to input 13 000 things to outlook it will be solved.
Needed data is stored in different places / servers around world - birthdays of famous peoples, moon phases, sunrise time, name's day's, national holiday's for all country's.
Maybe I'm want too much.

[APP][2.2+/3.0+/4.0+] Simple Notes and Tasks, Outlook direct Local Sync

It synchronizes notes, tasks, contacts, and calendar with Microsoft Outlook 2007 or greater (for Android 2.2 or greater) and also files and directories via WiFi.
Android market link
Android application consists of:
Notes application
Tasks application
Application for managing categories
Task widget 4x1
Task widget 2x2
Sync facilities and configuration screens
This software development is now forked in 2 versions - 2.x and 3.x. 3.x version (tablets) has modified UI - holographic theme. It is multi apk, so correct version is automatically downloaded from Android Market.
This application is real freeware - i.e. is free of charge and without advertising.
Send me please as private message what device and what ROM are you using and if it works or not, I will update list here, thanks.
Some screens
Would somebody be willing to test gingerbread calendar synchronizaton, I looked at source code and it looks the same but I would like to test that it is working correctly.
Is Outlook required?
Yes, Outlook 2007 or 2010.
Moved it to market.

Sorry, where?
cz.psencik.simple
Q: is there a Due Today fildter (overdue + due today)?
A: Will do
Q: Can I filter by category?
A: No, maybe will do.
Q: Can I sync calendar in a specific date frame only (now it syncs all calendar items) ?
A: No
Q: Can I not sync completed tasks?
A: No, similar features were present millions years ago when devices had limited memory, I want to have everything in phone. You can move those tasks to different folder/archive in Outlook now.
Q: Contacts don't show after sync.
A: What phone, you must enable Local Sync account in Contacts application (open Contacts, Menu, Display options, check Local Sync All Contacts) - btw it is described in "manual"
Could this thread be moved to different forum where new users can post?

Hi Ondřej,
Thanks a lot for your answers. This really helped. Also do you think it may be a good enhancement if the app can sort tasks by two fields? (for example by Due Date and then by Priority)
Thanks,
Sergey

Hi Sergey, I think it may be a good enhancement. Will do it likely.
great,i love it ! does it have italian language ?
i also loved it! =)
thanks,
unfortunatelly I do not speak Italian, so there is no Italian language. I can post language files somewhere and you can translate it for yourself.
I relased update with some of Sergey's requirements.
Wow!!
I regret I haven't found it before - testing it right now and it looks really very impressive.
I also have installed AutoSync Account Activator.
I'll be syncing Calendar and Contacts via corporate push through Email.apk (with fixed 60mA drain in no-data/flight mode) - but was missing Notes.
And it's convenient to have your Simple Note and Task apps - both are cool!
In short, your solution deserves much more publicity!! Everything seems to work OK, but some questions for explanation:
* the PC Local Sync app - does it have to be running? or is it just to provide info. Pressing X seems to kill it, but the process seem to remain active.
* BTW, I see more than 1 LocalSync.exe process, is this correct? or is it due to running again PC Local Sync after closing it with X?
* the pairing is defined by IP number. what happens if my notebook is automatically assigned another IP number on next boot - do I have to adjust the address manually? will the app know it is actually the same pairing, or will it try to define a new one (all settings again)? could it be searched by name in the local pool 192.168.x.x?
cheers,
1. PC Local Sync app - if you shuthdown in via X it should shutddown (after while), if not it is bug - you can kill it with task manager.
2. You should not see more local sync processes, it means that something is hung (kill with task manager). Note - if you minimize app it is in tray, still running.
I will take a look at desktop application to improve this :/ It is masively multithreaded so some thread is probably hanging (however I did not have experience this much, is it WiFi or Usb sync?)
3. If computer changes IP address (you can use hostname too), you can change it by pressing button with link icon in that pair configuration - so settings will be kept.
If you delete pairing all sync data are removed indeed and you do not want that because it would have to resynchronize (can take hours if you have tens of thousands items in Outlook).
Thanks for clarifications.
re: PC LocalSync
Seems like all is good, X closes the app and also process. Minimizing puts it in tray. Just running it twice produces 2 processes ...
It seems the app does not need to run for syncing - is it just for info and monitoring? or does it have to run in order to sync items?
(If it is needed it'd be better if X just minimized it, to avoid closing by accident ...)
1 minor issue is that I have 2 Outlook profiles set up for manual selection at start-up - if I start Localsync before starting Outlook, it tries to start Outlook but your initial LocalSync logo hangs on top of the profile selection blocking it (can't be moved)
re: changing IP (this is a nuisance)
I guess you mean running Localsync on my HD2, then pressing adress/machine name at the top, then second icon at the bottom, next to Save, then edit address and re-pair? still not too convenient.
Trying to use hostname I get Error: UnknownHostException: <hostname>. What am I missing? Hope we can resolve this, I'd be very happy ...
BTW, tested USB sync and all is well, but I would prefer to keep it as option for syncing outside my home network only, I'm constantly on Wifi at home.
cheers,
PC application is important, it is server which exposes Outlook to android. Do not start it multiple times, it does not matter because it starts on other port, but it is not useful.
I did not test app with mutliple profiles, I will have to improve it in this area to avoid data loss (if you sync one profile, switch profile, sync then you will probably loose data).
In order to use host name, you must configure DHCP/DNS in your routers, I tried it now and it works with name then. I am using also fixed ip addresses for particular devices (where possible).
many thanks, forgot about my router config . I assigned a fixed IP to my notebook and all should be well - I should have automatic synchronization of my notes, tasks and files whenever I'm at home.
Outlook profiles is not a big issue for me, as the only difference between them are additional private mail accounts (which cause some problems while at work), data is the same. Still, you may make preparations for more sophisticated users...
So the only minor issues you can think of improving are:
* allow changing Outlook profiles if PC LocalSync starts before Outloook,
* make it more difficult to close PC LocalSync inadvertently (X minimizing not closing; separate Exit)
As mentioned, I'm push syncing Calendar and Contacts via Email.apk, and not using Tasks much - so can't help testing them.
But once again congratulations on very good apps - I'll be recommending them!!
One problem is the thread title is not mentioning local Outlook synchronization at all, so people might be missing it - I would say Note and Task apps (both very nice) are rather in addition ... unless you depend on Market exposure ...
thanks,
Thanks, I updated title. The app original name was Simple Sync but I discovered that this name is trademarked so I renamed it to Local Sync. And originally it did not have so many functions as it has now.
I am syncing exchange with this (calendar) because I do not like policy pushed by Exchange.
There can be only issue with Contacts, because manufacturers are doing proprietary changes in contacts app. But it should work on base Android, Htc and Samsung.

[Q] Psion features on Win 7 Phone (where are they)?

Hi I have a HTC Mozart, this is my 1st phone that is more than a phone.
I have come from using a Psion 3a and a standard phone.
What I miss on all the new generations of phones is the database feature of the Psion
I know that in my Win 7 Phone I have contacts but in my Psion I have a database which was for personal contacts, but I have other database for useful stuff, like Plumbers, Shops, Tyre Centres etc.
I also had a database for keeping track of things I bought, i.e. Name, Model No, Serial No, Date of purchase, warranty period etc
.
Does anything like this exist for these new so called smart phones?
I am sure ex Psion users will know what I am referring too.

Aren't Psions like portable computers? WP isn't a portable computer. It's obviously a smart phone. A phone that does more than a phone.
It comes with Office in built. So if you wanted you could create the required databases in Excel.
You could use the 'search' button on the bottom right to find plumbers, shops and tyre centres around you.
For barcode scanning - you can use bing vision or bar code scanner apps.
EDIT: If you had Psion with WinMo OS on it then this might be a step forward, but if you used any other Psions portable computer or those PDA like devices then you might not find your answers to be straight forward.
Hi Dave,
Welcome to Windows Phone! I don’t know what a Psion is, but the new WP devices all come with an “MS Office Suite”. Included in this is a program called “Notes”.
What you can do with Notes is completely up to you, and is limited only by your imagination. I have a file for all of my expensive stuff like vehicles. The first item in each file (one per vehicle) is always the VIN. This saves a trip or a call at the parts window. Other entries include mileage on 01 Jan. This helps with taxes. I travel. I have a file for all of my cities by airport code. If I find a restaurant I like, it’s in there.
Obviously there is no such word a “tyre” (International jab) but for plumbers or tires, you have a couple of different options. If you have multiple plumbers and tire shops, I would again recommend Notes. If you have only one of each, you can add them into contacts and make their name “plumber” or “tires”.
Additionally, like your contacts, you can get your notes to sync to the cloud so they are always automatically backed-up, and can be shared so they are useable from other computers.
Hint: Don’t forget to give your notes a title (First line).
I think you’ll find these devices do everything you need except talk on Skype, and it looks like this will be fixed soon.
Good luck,
Dave
For contacts in windows phone you can create groups. Like one for companies and put plummers, electricians, ect in it
Hit plus when you are in the people hub. Choose new group instead of new contact. I have one also for family so i can have all my familys facebook in front of me at once. There is a limit however. 20 contacts to each group. For my coworkers i had to make 2 cuz they wouldn't all fit. Cool stuff though. Is that what you meant?
Thanks for the replies
For those that don’t know, a PSION was a PDA (not a computer as such) with 1M of memory and ran off 2AA batteries for 5 months
It had a Diary (WP Calendar)
Could sync diary with Outlook via cable (WP only via Live)
Alarm Clock (WP Alarms),
Word Processor (WP Word in Office)
Spreadsheet (WP Excel in Office)
A few games (WP Apps)
World Clock (WP Apps)
Voice Recorder (WP Apps)
Spellchecker (WP Apps or Word)
Programming language called OPL (maybe Apollo with C++)
Database (WP nothing)
The database was very simple you could create your own labels for fields and each record would have those fields
You could have many databases on for Contacts, one for CD collection etc.
One of the biggest advantages of the Psion database, contacts or calendar was that you could search on any field.
Excel would be the only thing to use but its not really that practical, you only need 5 to 10 fields per record.
I would write one for myself but I believe you can’t install your own apps? You could with the PSION
I bought my PSION 16 Years ago and keep it going just for the database function I would love to junk it and keep my data in my phone, I am just amazed that there is nothing around, I think Android & iPhone are the same.

Oh, you need MS Access then? That's the closest match to a database and I don't think they have in mobile office.
http://mobile.dzone.com/articles/how-windows-phone-and-sql
SQL lite is built in, but you have to create an app.
Access seems so over the top, the APP from the marketplace called "Database" looks interesting but no import

Greetings stranger and welcome. How was your time travel?
PS. I had a Casiopea 12 yrs ago. The darn 2AAA never got me for more than 3 days.

Unclear fi you receive this years after your post, but with the Psion emulator, the Psion lives forever And you can, of course, work with it!

[Discussion] What calendar app do you use, and why?

Did a few searches and didn't find any recent threads discussing Calendar apps in general, so let's get one going.
Discussion starters:
What calendar app do you use, and why?
Are there other Calendar apps you've tried? What ones did / didn't you like?
What features do you absolutely demand from your calendar app?
What features do you want from a calendar app, but can't find?
If you ditched a calendar app in the past, when did you ditch it, what app did you go to, and why?
In the past, I've tried a bunch of the top calendars like Business Calendar, aCalendar, Google Calendar, Touch Calendar, Pure Calendar, etc. Every single time, I end up coming back to CalenGoo.
CalenGoo isn't all that pretty, especially the menus and settings (which are quite overwhelming at first.) The setup is difficult, and time consuming, especially if you want to play with the colors, text, etc. Even if you don't try to visually customize the app, it still is far from intuitive, and really does take some time to figure out.
Having said all of that, the primary thing that keeps me coming back is the ability to set default reminders. I have not found this in any other calendar app that I've tried. I want to be send reminders of almost everything I put on my calendar. For me, the most effective reminders are text messages, so I set the default reminders to 4 or 5 separate texts (24 hours prior, 2 hours prior, 30 minutes prior, 10 minutes prior). This saves me a substantial amount of clicking when I'm setting up a new task. At most, maybe I'll need to add or subtract a reminder or play with the times, but not having to add 4 or 5 reminders, set the reminder times, and set the method of reminder is fantastic.
Other more standard features that I demand from my calendar are a month view and a month view widget. I also like the calendar to have a more complex recurring event thing like '3rd monday of each month', 'every other tuesday,' 'quarterly on the 6th of february, may, august, november', etc (you get the picture.) Finally, it must be able to sync with any subset of the google calendars I have added to the phone, and the ability to sync the other optional google generated calendars I've attached, like US holidays, christian holidays, etc.
I used to use business calendar, now I use sunrise calendar. No particular reason for switching - I did a factory reset, and I wanted to see what's the big deal about sunrise.

QUERY : Calendar app with manual refresh of .ics url calendars.

TLDR : Do you know a calendar app that allows me to manualy / programaticaly set the time between 2 refreshes of URL's .ics calendars, unlike google agenda that fetch them only once a day and you-dont-even-know-when as it's stated there ?
Hi
Firstly, i'm not shure i'm posting where i should. I'm looking for an app that i'm pretty shure it exist but i cant found it with the keywords i have, so maybe i'm not expressing what i need as i should.
This issue is the following :
Google calendar is very nice, it allows me to aggregate a personal calendar and the calendar from work that come in a .ics URL format. BUT google calendar only fetch the URL and get's update once a day, and not even on the same hour every-day, and it's not tolerable : i need to get update quicker than that.
Do you know some kind of app that could do that : Fetch the .ics from the web with a MANUAL REQUEST or with a CONFIGURABLE TIME INTERVAL (like 15mins), and then agregate it with my personal calendar ( that i can move out of google's server, i dont care.)
Hope someone has the solution.
Regards
