[Q] Issue updating to 4.4 - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an XT 1034 that I rooted and foolishly updated to 4.4 shortly after turning it on. My phone was basically unusable thanks to the laundry list of bugs the moto g suffered from with 4.4. So after seeing that there wasn't much help from Motorola I flashed back to 4.3 which leads me to now.
It seems the latest OTA does indeed fix most if not all of the 4.4 bugs so I'm trying to update. I removed fotakill, all the xposed framework apps and any other system tweaks I could think of, but is still falling. My best guess is that adblock effed up when I tried to disable it and is causing the update to fail.
Does anyone have a stock copy of the 4.3 hosts file that I could use to get the updates to go through? I'd rather avoid reflashing to stock if possible.

You might have to chmod 644 it.

Verizon trying to update Custom ROM- TW Eclipse 1.0

Hi, as the title states, yesterday I received a notification from Verizon that a new update is ready to be installed. I can only defer it for 5 days, which I did. I'm running TouchWiz Eclipse ROM 1.0. I went ahead and renamed SMD.apk to SMD.bak, because I read somewhere that's what I needed to do to prevent Verizon from pushing updates.
What I wanted to do is confirm that what I did would work (as in prevent Verizon from updating my awesome ROM and thus bricking my device). Also, I think the update is already downloaded and just ready to be installed. Will that affect anything? Would renaming SMD.apk still prevent it from being installed, or is that only to prevent it from being downloaded?? Please halp!!
Cheers,
ED

Best way to check is to go into Settings/About Phone/Software Update. If it force closes then you're all set. Renaming or uninstalling "smd 1.0" causes the phone to not actively poll for future OTAs from that moment on. Using a file explorer, check in /cache and delete the update.zip for VRBMF1 cuz you deferred the OTA which means it saved to your phone already.
I checked Settings>About device but there's no Check for upgrade option. I assume it was taken out as part of the ROM. I went ahead and deleted some sort of fupgrade in /cache. Then went and wiped cache in recovery and fixed permissions just to top it off. I think I'm good!! Thanks

There is a touchwiz version, it just wasn't updated in awhile and it's pretty buried in the development section.

Lost Root on Stock ROM - Solved

Sharing this here in case it saves somebody else an hour or so.
I rooted my stock Infinity ROM at ICS and have followed all the OTA updates to current 4.2.1 just using OTA Rootkeeper, apparently successfully. It was only recently when I tried to add another app that required root that I discovered I couldn't grant root permissions. To make it worse, I cleared SU data in an attempted fix which successfully removed root from apps that had been OK :crying:
Then I came across this fix that had been applied to a TF300:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2183105
It works as described on the TF700 too and seems to have completely fixed my problem.
Thanks to Koush for the fix to blubbhome for posting it somewhere I could find it.
I am out of warranty now and about to install a different ROM so thanks to all devs for the good work.

[Q] xposed not working on 4.4.4

I just pushed the new 4.4.4 update for my Droid Ultra (not Dev edition)
Fortunately, it kept root access! Unfortunately, no matter what I do, the Xposed framework is refusing to work now. I've had it running flawlessly with 4.2.2 and 4.4, but now it'll download and appear to install, but it keeps asking me to reboot even after I flash it or do the "classic" installation.
Is anyone else having this issue?
You kept root but lost the ability to write to the system. Have to wait for a write protection exploit
Ahh okay! I get it. Hope one gets released soon!
So if 4.4.4 retains root would I be correct in concluding that in spite of that the WPNoMo/Pie combo technique from the bounty thread for 4.4 still won't get us a root that survives reboot/wp-off due to the new security in this update?

When xposed asks you to reboot just cancel and choose soft reboot. Any time you do a hard reboot you will lose the xposed framework. If that happens just re-install the framework and do a soft reboot.

I don't remember what the deal is but this problem has been discussed recently. I think it has something to do with duplicate /data folders or something like that. Search around, it's here somewhere. Possibly in more than one Q/A or Rom development thread

Problem with root

I unrooted with su in order to try get updates didn't work I used the. e LG one click method from source Forge that's somewhere up here. when I tried to reroot su got hung up and now it says I have to manually root. I do this stuff on the low on my . dad's pc for like a couple hours a week 2x a week sometime more. sometime less so what do I have to do to fix this I have a d850 with 5.01. so I tried running it through but it just give same results with that method. Help please
Updates via OTA are not possible by just unrooting with su. You have to revert back to KK and then proceed forward. You will end up downloading a few OTAs to get the most up to date version. Be prepared to spend a few hours. Then you will have to root again.
