[Q] Photon q european 4g frequencies - Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE

I own a photon q 4g and did the sim mod
i live in the netherlands where the 4g frequencies are at 800mhz,1800mhz and 2600mhz
when i use the *#*#4636#*#* code i can see the different bands you can select but there is no EU setting
but if i look at screenshots of QPST i can see that the frequencies are usable.
Does anyone think it is possible to get the phone working with dutch 4G?
Is it possible to use QPST on a modded phone with cyanogenmod?
Greetings
Mafradon

What you are looking at is the UMTS and GSM Part, not LTE.
So that's nothing that tell you about usable frequencies.
Besides the LTE part of the Photon Q is using the "flashed" SIM-ID (or whatever name it has).
It can't use the SIM-card from the SIM mod.

but you remove the sim ic in the mod you substitute the sim card for the ic dont you?

Afaik the SIM-IC is/was used for GSM and WCDMA only.
LTE, CDMA etc. is using some in the phone flashed entries.
If you can correct me, please do it. I would love to be wrong.

what rom u are using? and what was your base (cspire / sprint) ?

rom
right now i am using the gsm version of cyanogenmod 10.1 the phone was a sprint phone originally.
I would love to now how the phone ties up the customer to the lte network (aka 4G) as all 4g phones over here do that with a sim card not through the system cdma uses. Or am i wrong altogeter and is an american lte network compleatly different as opossed to a european one?

Using GSM on Telus Touch Pro 2

Hello everyone. I just got my Touch Pro 2 from Telus and got it sim-unlocked. I am using it with Rogers wireless. So far so good. Except that 3G does not work Oh well..

Same thing with T-Mobile TP2 on AT&T network. Compare Rogers and Telus 3G bands. It might be different.
not to sound rude, but is the telus 3g (hspa) network even up yet?

lol yeah I think so. I think its called 1x or something like that. I'm not very familiar with the CDMA phones but they advertise that you can use the phone to surf 3G speeds on their network so I'm pretty sure they have 3G speeds.
Sorry, but i'm using TELUS and the HSPA network won't be up till next year and trust me, Telus speeds now are NOTHING close to 3G.
I'm not sure how they are advertising these 3G speeds but 1x is actually slower than what Telus is currently using which is EVDO.

i dont think thats true at all. i get speeds of up to 2.8mg downlink and 500k up.
ive downloaded while tethering upwards up 300kb/s. you might be in an area with 1x coverage, and not EVDO. PLUS make sure the device you are using isnt just EVDO, it has to be EVDO REV A. (touch pro, diamond, touch pro 2, touch, etc). Hope you get better speeds. CHears
Telus EVDO is not slow. Unfortunately the HDPA network is not up yet but it should be online VERY soon as the Olympics are drawing close and this is the reason why Telus is upgrading the network before Feb. 2010 here in Vancouver.

Where the heck are you located?? I'm using a TP2 with full EV signal and i'm getting 400-600k and that's in the downtown core. And from what telus tells me thats the best they can do till they put the HSPA network up. They said CDMA is only capable of 7-750k max, there is no getting over that. But i'd love to know how your getting 2.8 meg, because technically thats roughly 2100k faster than what telus says we can get.
And Jessie is right Telus has a goal to sell phones during the olympics and they plan to have the HSPA up by then.
Yup I'm pretty sure I saw Telus advertising their high speed somewhere
im using a physical sim-card thingy to allow other sim cards to work in my telus TP2, it works (since it does not give me the regular error and i can see the numbers in it), but how do I stop it from using CDMA and go on GSM only?
Guys
I'm hoping you can help us no CDMA users with this question.
Considering that the CDMA TP2 has both GSM and CDMA radios, can I pop in a GSM SIM CARD and enjoy full GSM coverage including use of Asia and European 3G bands?

Yes you can use it on GSM networks. If you want to use the phone on a SIM other that the company's provided sim you need to sim-unlock it. The 3G will work in Asia and Europe but not in North AMerica because the bands are different and the TP2 supports those of Asia and Europe only (the North American CDMA version).

Go to Phone Settings and select the Network tab then select GSM only instead of Global or CDMA

It is quadband gsm.... works on all continents.... provided it is unlocked or you are paying for global roaming.
hello guys, im going to purchase verizon tp2 cause they say it supports gsm and cheaper than the generic nonbranded version. tmobile's design i dislike. so as im going to use it only with gsm sim, i have such questions, are there any differences in use between gsm and vzw versions except i must select gsm mode? can i flash it with generic tp2 roms?
........
okay, seems to be cdma versions cant be flashed to gsm as it is another model id(rhod400 and rhod500)
so i have one more question, will i be able to use internet on vzw tp2 without any restrictions on its stock rom now, when hardspl have not been released yet?
Just to be sure I understand if I want to buy a TP2 in Canada...
The Telus version will not be able to use GSN (Fido/Rogers) 3G network because the 3G bands are not the same as the TP2 from the United-States and Europe?
If so, would this version of the TP2 work with Fido/Rogers GSM 3g ?

I dont think so. I dont think there's a PRO 2 that supports our North American 3G bands.. At least not yet.. For the question above. Yes it is GSM quadband but not 3G quadband. This is different. It is 3G dualband and supports those of Asia and Europe only. Unfortunately.
That's a good and clear answer! Thx !
No problem. I think when and if AT&T or some North American GSM carrier releases the TP2, then the 3G will definitely work here in NA. Otherwise the current versions only support Asia and Europe.
Another question, can we install a custom ROM on the worldphone telus Touch Pro 2 like the other GSM phones? (I dont think so but I found two opposite answers on this forum).

Changing the CDMA Radio

I just got off the phone with Telus and what they told me is that they are releasing ANOTHER TP2 on the GSM network and that I would have to buy another phone TP2 just to get onto the GSM network.
This being said, is there any way to modify the radio signal in my CDMA phone to read both CDMA and GSM, or atleast get more speed out of my phone for connectivity to the net?
*update
I just got off the phone with HTC and the lady I spoke with told me, that to change the radio frequency I just had to change the ROM. That being said IF, I put a Telus HSPA ROM on there the phone should be capable of working on the network. Now that being said. If this is possible would it not be possible to run on both networks, CDMA and HSPA, making the signal control software dependent, meaning I have CDMA controls for standard phone calls and HSPA for running the highspeed network?
Update in previous post.
Eazy, just HardSPL and security unlock your radio bro...Only then you can use the GSM networks in your country (I'm guessing it's US)
But you can only activate one at a time. Either GSM only or CDMA only..CMIIW..
Just my 2 cents
Actually it's Canada
Right but if I unlock the phone, and switch it back and forth on and off the networks, how would that affect my account, could I hide the fact i was doing this?

I have this phone on Telus...I got it unlocked and I put my work sim card in this phone and it's on rogers. I switch networks when necessary....If you get a Telus sim card you would be able to use it GSM.
You should be able to pick which network you use. I saw it in phone settings, I think.

TELUS does not provide GSM at all. They are CDMA and UMTS.
So does this mean its possible. If i have a CDMA Sprint HTC Touch pro 2. That i have the potential of using it on At&t in the US?? All i have to do is unlock it?? Any information would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks!!
And if one does unlock a radio on said Telus phone, can one use both radio frequencies, thus enabling both CDMA and HSPA frequencies?

So Telus new 3G network is not GSM? It does have drop down menu showing "Send SMS over" GMS and CDMA. GSM is selected by default.

[Q] may i install 3g uk xoom's rom to my verizon us 3g xoom to get simcard working?

hello all,
i've a 3g verizon us xoom. may i install uk 3g xoom's rom on it?
may i use a 2g/3g sim card after that?
thanks
Same Problem
Hi developers,
I have a very similar problem, except for I'm trying to use my US (used to be Verizon - but I UNLOCKED it) with China Unicom's 3G sim card. It won't pick up signal. I wonder if that is possible and what I need to change in order for it to work.
Any help will be appreciated,
thanks
The US xoom is cdma 3g and not gsm, which is why it wont pick up signal. Also the simcard slot is not for the 3g but for 4g which isn't available yet. I would doubt it would work.
Sent from my MZ604 using XDA Premium App
Verizons xoom is CDMA and the hardware is different, the sim slot in the verizon has no hardware yet. When the free hardware update comes in at some point it will be 4G not 3G.
So in short the answer is NO.
Lordao
YES! you can use any images on your verizon 3G XOOM!
I have tried several, and they ALL work!
you WILL get your SIM working as well!! but you will not be able to use the 3G GSM network, because the images do not contain the baseband files used for the radio.
Hardware differences have not been confirmed by anyone, people are just assuming. The radio chip used multi-frequency capable hence must be the same.
One must do a baseband firmware change, to find out if the CDMA to HSPA/GSM will work!

Ok
Thanks for your responses...
I'll go back to China Unicom and ask them for the CDMA 3G, since they're supposed to have that, too.

Verizon GS3 "World", "GSM", or ???

The GS3 Verizon is a CDMA device. Supposedly it has GSM compatible radios too. It's supposed to be able to work on GSM networks after a software update coming soon. Does this thing have a sim card slot? I don't see how it would work on GSM networks without it. Does anyone know how this works?
I'm hoping to use it on Verizon in USA, but on Telcel while in Mexico BUT with my Telcel sim. I realize my hopes are slim but if there's a sim card slot maybe it's possible???
Thanks.

Actually, I have an old Verizon Motorola Z6c World Phone here that I bought in 2008. It has a Verizon sim card inside.
Z6c Specs say:
2G Network GSM 900 / 1800
3G Network CDMA 1xEVDO (800 / 1900 MHz)
Anyway, there's no LTE involved on the Z6c back then. SO apparently the GS3 will need the sim on non CDMA networks. I just wonder if the software experts here can make it possible to use the sim only at certain times and at the same time unlock the phone.
A lot to ask but will be a huge feature if done.

I said earlier that I wasn't sure about compatibility, but I'm starting to believe that this is not possible, as the Verizon version lacks the proper GSM/HSPA+ radios. There's a model comparison chart that you can expand on the Wikipedia page. Software probably won't be able to pull the miracle you're asking for. Sorry

Maybe this will help? http://androidcommunity.com/verizon-may-enable-global-roaming-on-lte-phones-soon-20120518/ from what I gather LTE is based off of GSM and its just a matter of unlocking the GSM bands on the phones.

Yeah, I don't think the current specs out on the GS3 are totally complete. If the phone is admittedly needing a software update to allow the GSM roaming then they can't just put those bands in the specs with no caveats.

[question] gsm 3g switch to 4g network

Hi Guys, I have a new Samsung galaxy s5 from Sprint SM-G900P.... It's unlocked gsm networks the thing is when i buy mobile network it just work in 3g and i want it to work as 4g lte im from Dominican Republic i use Claro Dominicana Company and my Sim Card is a new technology from the Company and the sim card work for 4g .... How to make the switch? ??
If you're rooted, you could possibly force it with xposed. Dialing ##data# will give you options to adjust. I know I use it for cdma. I don't know if it will show options for GSM tho.
Answer
Hey bro! I have an g900p too here in orange. The thing is that in the stock sprint rom it doesnt have the option to select 4g in our local bands, so you will have to install a custom rom for G900F, rom only, no kernel. For the kernel flash the ktoonsez kernel. The rom i have been using is called xtrosolite or something like that, you can find it in the samsung s5 development forum. When you install it, if you cant enable 4g lte yet, ( im supposing you already have a 4g lte sim card) you will have to unlock the lte bands using qualcomm programs QPTS and a few others, there is a thread for that here in the forums, just look for ''how to unlock lte bands''. I hope it helps you.
