[Q] Google Play updates, and all downloads type won't finish even after Factory Reset - Asus Transformer TF700

Hello everyone,
I'm facing a quite strange and annoying issue on a TF700T.
No matter which ROM I'm running with, Google Play tells me updates need to be done, which is normal. When I start the updates, the downloads pause at 4% for most of them, and will never end, even after 4 days of activity.
A tablet on which you cannot download content to, or install apps is not very usefull.
The problem is the same with other download types (if I browse on the navigator, to download a ROM.zip, download starts and stops at 4%)
A friend gave me this tablet with Cromi-X insttaled on it. I first thought it was a ROM issue, so I flashed CM11 stable version, just to see.
Problem is the same.
I tried with different google accounts, I cleared Google Play cache services.
No effect.
I also flashed the ASUS original firmware using the SD card mthod, and problem is still there.
I'm short on ideas now, I've looked in XDA forum, but never found a thread with similar issues.
Tablet is currently running Android 4.1.1 WW10.4.4.25-20121228 A03 and unlocked
Thank you very much for your help or advices,
Nicolas

Hi again,
I have made progress on this strange issue.
I finally managed to get google play and downloads to work, but I have to use a vpn client so it can work.
I tried VPN Hideninja.
And, I have the issue no matter which rom/ android version I use.
So, it's a workaround, but at least it allows the tablet to be "usable".
Does someone has any ideas where the problem could come from? (bad kernel version?...)
Or, maybe someone knows a tool to check Android configuration issue, network configuration (I've searched but didnn't find something yet, but I keep trying )
Thank you for your help
Nicolas

Hi,
I installed cromi-X on the tablet and combi-kk as rom2Sd. Bith rom start, but I still have the issues with the playstore.
Does anyone know a tool to perform a hardware check?
If I want to completely clean the tablet, what would you advise ? Right now I'm trying to figure out if the problem is hardware or software.
Thank you for your help

Search how to do a logcat over adb and post the resulting text file. Do it after you attempted to download something.

Hi Sdbags, first of all thank you for your interest.
I've made 3 logcatfiles:
#1 on the rom2sd crombi-kk before downloading. logcatkkStartUp.txt
#2 after stopping downloading as it was frozen. logcatkkDLFails.txt
#3 same as #2 but running on cromi-X on the internal memory of the pad logcatX.txt
I believe this is not looking good:
W/NetworkManagementSocketTagger( 1280): untagSocket(94) failed with errno -22
I/qtaguid ( 1280): Failed write_ctrl(u 56) res=-1 errno=22
I/qtaguid ( 1280): Untagging socket 56 failed errno=-22

So possibly you are on an older bootloader that doesn't support the right kernel ....
What bootloader and version of TWRP are you on exactly?
AH WE HAVE A WINNER
Tablet is currently running Android 4.1.1 WW10.4.4.25-20121228 A03 and unlocked
You need to update your bootloader and TWRP. Flash my update package from the CROM-X first post and then follow the instructions to move to a later TWRP if you want to try a CM11 base

Hi Sdbags,
upon startup, bootloader version shows "WW_epad-10.6.1.14.4-20130329" A03, and TWRP is v2.6.3-that3.
I can atach pictures if you want.
Ciould it be that a part of the tablet has the right bootloader version, and another part d not have that correct version?
Thank you for your help

Do me a favour and flash my package and then upgrade to TWRP 2.6.3-that3. There is flashable version of that in my CROMBi-kk thread. Then we know you are on the latest bootloader and recovery.
Also you seem to be using bluetooth at the same time. That doesn't work well on these devices. Turn off bluetooth as well and let's get the wifi working.

Hi,
So I went to recovery, wiped everything except external SD. transfered using adb :
cm-4.4-20140309-CROMBikk4.4.2-tf700t_Signed.zip
install it, restart to crombikk (normal installation, not in rom2SD)
restarted to Android, and made a logcat.
Rebooted to recovery and flashed twrp-2.6.3-that3_Signed 1.zip
Rebooted to android and made a logcat
Finally, rebooted to recovery, installed crombi_kkgapps_20140312_Signed.zip and reboot to Android system, connected a google account and tried to download an app from Google. Bluetooth is off (I never switched it on in my previous logcats.)
I then started the playstore application, and Android Terminal Emulator installed correctly.
I then wanted to install a Google product, Chrome Browser in the logcat attached. Download starts and freezes at 9% for 2 minutes then increases to 24% and freezes again. The download is still pending.
I'll post the logcat of the tablet when download stops by itself or it completes. (let's hope it does but it is hanging for 10 minutes now)

Try clearing data and cache on the Play Store and Google Play Services and reboot.

Hi,
I tried to download from 3 different locations, with 3 different ISP and modems, and the problem is the same.
I also tried to Clear cache and data of Google services and PlayStore. I still have the problem.
Yesterday, when I flashed everything to reinstall the Rom and the recovery on proper basis, I noticed that some directories are not wiped.
Maybe some files are missing?
Is there any way to restore those directory? (maybe doing a wipe data from the bootloader, but I read at many places that it is not advised...
I also tried to find an application or a thread to test the hardware of the tablet without any success
Thank you for your help

You could try a full internal sd card format from inside twrp - warning it can take up to 2 hours to complete. Make sure you have everything you want to keep and rom.zips on external sd as well.

Hi,
I did the full wipe from the factory (took 90 minutes )
I reinstalled the rom, and I stil have the problem (erro 495 most of the time)
I then downloaded and installed a VPN client and it works. ( I attached the logcat.txt)
There is still something I can't figure out, as it works using a VPN, the issue is probably not related to hardware, but software, and it is not related to the Rom or recovery.
Do you know if Google checks something like device ID when apps are dowloaded from the store?
Thanks
Nicolas

If it works on a VPN then it is more likely related to your country and / or ISP and Google servers.

[HELP!] Velocity Cruz T301 Full Brick Recovery

Hi XDA,
so basically i bought a Velocity Cruz T301 recently and followed the known procedures for rooting, flashing ClockworkMod Recovery and custom rom (SJHill Rom v0.3).
before the full brick my device was at ClockworkMod 5 and rooted with SJHill Rom v0.3.
i installed CWM by flashing the zip in stock recovery, then succesfully rooted the device, finally wiped and flashed my custom rom
after major dissapointment in this tablets performance i decided i wanted to get rid of it.
So i downloaded the stock rom, wipe and flashed it onto the tablet...
the tablet turned off when it was finished (i think it was attempting to reboot) and never turned back on again...EVER! :good:
i cant even get to recovery
i tried flashing with adb and fastboot but the device is never even presents itselft to the computer.
i found out that you can boot the device into USB boot mode where you hold the "VOL -" (Volume Down) button and press the reset button and while connected to the computer (windows only) a "JZ4760 USB Boot Device" appears.
i did some googling and also found out that the T301 is based on similar tech to a bunch of tablets and they can all be modified by some software released by Ingenic called USBBootTool.exe
the tool is written in chinese and i cant decypher it all, though i found out how to use it based on its usage for other Ingenic based tablets
1.) you will need to disable driver signature verification (press F8 on boot of windows and toggle the setting, i hate rebooting too but it has to be done)
2.) boot your tablet into USB Boot Mode (hold down Vol - and press Reset button)
3.) install the driver for your device (included in the files below)
4.) with the tablet disconnected you would open the USBBootTool.exe
5.) select your tablet in the options and fill each box with the files needed to flash (files included below)
6.) reconnect the tablet while still in USB Boot Mode and the software will flash your device on detection
everything goes fine for me except when i get to the flashing part in the end.
when USBBootTool detects my tablet, it attempts to flash and gives me a stream of errors and never flashes my device.
i dont know what to do at this point. i have provided direct links to all the software im using and also links to where i got them.
any help would be appreciated, thank you to the XDA community in advance

*Cross Post from SlateDroid* (but I can't post the link because XDA won't allow it)
I found out why the USB boot isn't working. Well, more appropriately I know where it fails but not exactly "why".
The USB Boot tool works like this:
1) Send x00 command (Get CPU Info)
2) Device responds with "JZ4760V1"
3) Host sends two binaries, stage1 and stage2. Stage 1 sets up memory stuff, and Stage 2 sets up USB flashing functions.
4) Host checks that the binaries executed by issuing another x00 command (Which serves as an "Are you still there?" function)
5) If the response is good, the host will flash the images, if the response is bad, it will abort.
Our devices are failing at step 4. The linux usb boot tools (xburst-tools) fail in an identical fashion.
I know that the first stage binary transfers and executes fine because if it didn't the device would be limited to 16k. The second stage is 120K and is transferred successfully. Once the second stage "execute" command is sent, the device crashes.
The second stage is also unique to the CPU type. I've used all of the binaries for JZ4760 I could find on the net and when that failed I cross compiled my own binary from source and it still crashed.
At this point I highly doubt I'll ever be able to fix it, and this completely explains why no one could get any usb recovery tool to work while others using similar devices could. I guess our board is modified just enough for ingenic's stock binaries to fail. Without knowing what's changed (getting Velocity Micro's source) we're SOL.
I can open it up again and solder on the serial header but I'm betting it's going to give me some generic "couldn't execute" message that isn't going to help me. I'll probably do this anyway though because I've come this far so what's the loss.
wow, i learned alot from that post, seems like writing a usbboottool-like application that can send the commands but also log and possibly bypass security checks etc but that def would take sometime. thank you for your insight, seems youve come the closest to cracking the case, actually you found the fault, hopefully your methods can eventually bring about a fix

for my JZ4770 Earlier USB tool was flashing .img without any problem but for now it is saying "load cfg failed". "API downlaod failed' like dialogues and doesnt flash anything. Any idea? Thanks in advance!!
First restart your computer (actually restart it) then redownload the USB boot tool and save it in a completely new directory and use a different USB port
Sent from my Pokeball
Yes, I did

Yes, I tried with this suggestion. Rather I reinstalled xp and the tried again. But the dialogues are same. The history is like this. Was having ICS on JZ 4770. Formatted with usb tool and put JB updates. It was not sensing touch so reflashed another JB updates. Now the tab boots, it reaches to boot logo for around 12 seconds and restarts in stock recovery. While it is in booting stage it get detected by windows and adb also. In stock recovery mode it get detected by windows and in turn by adb also. If I tried to install updates through SD card it shows it had installed and reboots after completion. But again the same way it goes to boot logo and then back to stock JB recovery. It also boots in ingenic boot device mode and gets detected by USB burn tools. But when try to flash any of the ROM it gives the same dialogues "check cfg failed" "api download failed" "boot. fw failed" and cant flash anything.
Is there any tool which can be flashed or a script which can be used from SD card for completely formatting flash memory so that USB burn tool can flash required ROM?
can you flash the stock rom in recovery?

thanks man but I managed to boot the device. I used following USB BOOT TOOL for ingenic 4770 boards. The goodness with this tool, this is completely in English. You will know what you are doing. Even after opening the main window of the tool you can right click and then get another options(yes again in English). My problem with this device was bad blocks at 1024. In the options there is chance to force erase whole the nand partitions which I used and erased all the partitions thereby made all the partions available for flashing and readable by the tool. Then from File option selected stock rom files and flashed them. While flashing selected JZ4770 iNanad.ini file in manual configuration. This tool has really helped me to come out of the issue and will be useful for guys using JZ 4770 board.

Got USBBootTool.exe kind of working.
1. Download the following file from Ingenic.
ftp * ingenic * cn/3sw/01linux/tmp/jz4770-20110610.rar
2. Download Applocale from Microsoft.
www * microsoft * com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=13209
3. Extract the jz4770-20110610.rar and find the folder. (Using 7zip should keep the UTF encoding in Chinese)
20110610\04burn\20110524_4770_Programmer
4. Copy the folder 20110524_4770_Programmer to location you want to use it in.
5. Install Microsoft Applocale (Just in case, I don't think it is required)
Now Start Applocale and create a shortcut to USBbootTool.exe inside 20110524_4770_Programmer
中文(简体) is simplified Chinese option and should let you view the GUI correctly.
6. Now with the Applocale Shortcut created for USBbootTool.exe you can start the application with correct fonts.
Now this is where is breaks down.
TABLET-8 NAND FINAL BSP(S3 TEST) will allow you to read from it and write to it, but the CFG is off.
\tool_cfg\tablet-8-nand-final.ini is the configuration for it.
DO NOT CONNECT THE DEVICE WITH ANY OPTIONS CHECKED OR LOAD ANY FILES.
See Attached Images.
Next to the Read button is some Boot Option menu. I am not fulling aware of what this does.
What I need is a someone to help me fix/correct the ini/cfg files in
\20110524_4770_Programmer\tool_cfg\.ini
\20110524_4770_Programmer\4760\
to correctly match the files of the NAND.
Also if anyone has a copy (dd to img) or (cat to img) of the block devices.
That would help a ton.
# cat /proc/partitions
# cat /proc/mtd
I would also love another T10x Tablet for cheap.
I want to start building things like new bootloader, kernel, system image,
performance libraries to take full use of the Ingenic JZ4760 (www * ingenic * cn/product.aspx?CID=11)
I also bring Christmas gifts
2 APKS. You can place them in /system/app or /data/app.
Google Play will crash now and again, but it will load and work. (Vending.apk)
Secondly I bring the gift of performance increase, just by a slight bit.
edit the line of the heapsize in /system/build.prop dalvik.vm.heapsize=96m

I unpacked the stock rom. I also unpacked an ics rom for a jz4770, and repo sync'd the aosp and mips 3.0.8 android kernel.
I'm still trying to figure out specs for the processor though. I know that its mips32 - el- fp- r1, but i cannot figur out the dsp version ... if it has one?
Error in erasing nand

thanks man but I managed to boot the device.

Alcatel OneTouch Pixi 3 (8) WIfi [Model 8070 mt8127] - Custom Recovery [TWRP 3.0.2.0]

After some effort, I present you TWRP 3.0.2.0 custom recovery for Alcatel OneTouch pixi 3 (8) Wifi, model 8070.
The specific recovery is currently under some progress, but this build is working really well except from touch input.
CREDITS :
@yuweng for providing a convenient and automated way to build a twrp recovery -> twrp-build script.
Changelog:
- v2.2: Changes in partition scheme. Also the "wipe with rm -rf" instead of formating is now the default setting, for compatibility in restoring a backup.
- v2.1: Some minor changes in recovery.fstab. Thanks to @yuweng for mention it out!
- v2.0: Now the graphics are displayed in better resolution. Cpu temp is now working. Still touch is not fixed though
Things that work:
- Battery Percentage
- CPU Temp
- Installing superSU
- Installing xposed-framework
- full backup/restore process (explained at the end of the post)
Things that don't work:
- Touch (You'll have to connect a mouse through OTG cable in order to use the recovery)
DISCLAIMER:
Rooting your phone and using custom Recoveries and ROM's have risks and may result in bricking your device, and has nothing to do with Google or the device manufacturers. In case of any mishap I am not responsible if you brick/ruin your phone in any way.
Basic computer skills are required and minimal knowledge about the phone and phone utilities also.
Make sure that whatever you do, you are doing it at your own responsibility.
In order to install it, you'll have to unlock the bootloader of the device first. Read the steps before procedure. Take a backup of your files before proceeding!
How to unlock bootloader:
- Power on device and boot into Android.
- Connect the device to PC through cable
- Go to settings -> storage and press the 3-dot menu and select "USB computer connection". Next, select connect as Built-in CD-ROM option.
- Now, go to My Computer and install the driver of the virtual disc that is mounted from device.
- Supposing that the driver is installed correctly, we activate adb for our device.
- Go to settings -> about tablet -> hit 7-8 times on "build number", congrats, you're now a developer!
- Go to settings -> developer options -> hit USB debugging and press OK on the popup window. If the connection is working, one more popup is going to appear asking you to allow the connection, Tick the box "always allow from this computer" and press OK.
- Open an adb terminal and check if the device is working properly typing "adb devices". The serial number of your device should appear, so everything is OK!
- Now, boot into fastboot typing "adb reboot-bootloader". The device is going to reboot and boot into fastboot mode, waiting for command.
- For the bootloader to be unlocked, you have to type "fastboot oem unlock". A warning message regarding bootloader unlocking should appear on the device, waiting for an answer. Press the volume+ key and the bootloader is now unlocked! WARNING! ALL DATA ON THE DEVICE IS GONNA BE WIPED, so backup your files before.
- Wait for the wiping of the device to be finished and then you're ready to install the twrp custom recovery!
How to install TWRP:
- We must be in fastboot mode once again. You can either boot holding power button & vol+ while the device is powered off, or type the command in the adb terminal "adb reboot-bootloader" while the device is connected to PC and is booted into Android.
- Assuming that you are in fastboot mode and the device is connected to the PC, you open an adb terminal and type "fastboot flash recovery /path/to/twrp-recovery".
Replace the path reflecting your path's downloaded twrp.
- Congrats! You now have your twrp custom recovery installed!
In order to operate the twrp, due to lacking of touch input, you'll have to connect a mouse using an OTG cable.
You can now install whatever you want, from supersu to xposed-framework, you can take full backups with restore capabilites, and many more interesting stuff!
I'll try to fix the bugs, but because I'm not a developer, I'm just a power user with some advanced linux knowledge, if any dev knows and willing to help me fix the touch screen issue, he's more than welcome!
Info about backup/restore process:
The specific device has one ubnormality. It stores some of the data in a separate partition called "custom". What I found out was that if you format this partition, even if you restore a backup image, the device doesn't boot, or it boots in boot loops.
So, after some testing, I found out that the process for a reliable and working backup image, is to do the next steps:
For creating a backup:
- Go to twrp settings and select use -rm instead of formatting
- You should only choose Data, Custom & System. No need for anything else, but if you want, you can backup the rest of the dirs, just in case.
For restoring a backup:
- Wipe the Dalvik Cache, Cache, System, Data, Custom partitions. You don't need to wipe the Internal Storage or/and External SDcard, if you don't want to lose your personal data like, photos, music, etc. But, you should always take a backup of these files at any case!
- Choose Data, System, Custom partitions from twrp backup dir
- Reboot

I'm not sure. Probably not. This build is for mt8127 cpu and the most important thing, is the partition scheme of your device. The recovery partition has to be in the same position with pixi 3 8 in order to not cause brick.
But I can help you. If you could post your dumchar_info (/dev/proc/dumchar_info), I can tell you if it's the same. Maybe you must to be rooted in order to view this file. Try with kingroot.
Unfortunlately i have a bootloop and I don't know how to recover this device. Alcatel upgrade tool say it's up to date.

If it's already bricked, you could try it (won't get worse afterall). But you'll have to unlock the bootloader first, follow my guide to do this.
Mobile Upgrade tool doesn't work? Can you tell me the full model name, to have a look please?
Did you try with this one? I've just checked that it has your model in the list.
My device is i220 model. No 3G, wifi only. I think its mt8127 CPU and I'm wondering how can I recover software.

First of all, how did you get into bootloop? Did you try to install xposed framework? In order to restore your tablet, you have to get the stock rom, through a rom readback or through a custom recovery backup. For alcatel devices, through mobile upgrade tool. Try the one I posted and give me a feedback.
I have this update tool but doesn't work.
Now I'm trying backup but it's very slow.
This device is from Orange, my friend hit factory data reset button by menu and it's all. Device bricked.

Try with mobile upgrade 4.4.5 version. Uninstall the other one first.
I don't think that a read back of your already bricked rom is gonna make any good. You need a working rom
Basically, your device is not bricked. Your friend just wiped your rom from device, so there isn't any os to boot, that's why the boot loops.
Try to restore it through mobile upgrade tool 4.4.5 (uninstall all other versions), and give me a shot of the fail screen.

I found i213 model ROM but i don't know is it fit -
Code:
[url]http://chomikuj.pl/marcin.l19/Alcatel+pixi+7+i213+MT8127[/url]
So, you have to get a working rom from another same, working device through read back. I suggest to mail alcatel support asking for an image, or for a working method of mobile upgrade tool, they should reply to you within 24-48 hours.
I'll have a look too. When you get a reply, post again on the thread.

[ROM & discussion][7.1.2_r11][Grouper|Tilapia][3May2017]AOSP - UNOFFICIAL

In Android ROMs' developments, I always start with AOSP. It is the root and if I want to do it right, I have to make it work for AOSP first. Putting the AOSP tests in my kernel thread is getting messy. As I would continue my work here for a while. Starting a thread for AOSP seems reasonable.
Here is for sharing of experiences and discussions.
There would be no nightly, weekly or monthy. I would follow the releases of AOSP and keep it as genuine as possible. If you are looking for a feature, there are many nice ROMs out there.
Known Issues:
 1. AOSP Camera App The AOSP Camera2 app is not working with the Nexus 7 (2012) which is the only (I think) Nexus device with a Front Camera but not the Back Camera. The new Camera2 app set the back camera as default. I can make the preview shown by a simple overlay configs. But, make it really work would be quite a work. In the app market(s), there are many camera apps already taking care of that and would work flawlessly. I see no reason to waste time on that. 2. "E:unknown command [log]" If you got this message when flashing, don't panic. It's the new "block_image_update()" in recovery cause that. It would do no harm and it would be gone in the next TWRP. 3 Please report.
Tips:
 1. DT2W At deep sleep, the idled CPU takes time to resume. If the taps are too close, it might not be recognized. Delay the duration between taps would give you better results. 2. Built-in File Explorer There is an built-in file explorer in AOSP. We can explore the files as well as installing apks.
Its in: Settings > Storage > Explore (under the storage you want. In case of Nexus 7, only the internal and OTG exist.)Change log:

Sometimes it won't wakeup after a long DEEP_SLEEP
When volume buttons are also enabled for wakeup. It won't work too. Seems there are situations "soft pwr button press" won't work.
Fail after reboot
Code:
Supported API: 3
E: unknown fs_type "f2fs" for /cache
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_locale
Some of you might encounter the above message after reboot. I never encountered before but there is definitely something wrong.
@millosr found that it was the recovery being replaced. I think that make sense and I want to study why.
I looked into the source. In the original AOSP, an OTA might come with a recovery patch. Stated in the build/core/Makefile "boot.img + recovery-from-boot.p + recovery-resource.dat = recovery.img"
It would generate the "recovery.img by the above formula itself. Custom ROMs usually won't carry a recovery and this part was usual ignored.
There is a warning in TWRP before reboot. Some of you might not read clearly and slide to continue immediately. In that case, the above mentioned recovery.img will be generated and flashed to the /recovery partition. Everything seems normal but after reboot.
When the script kick in, it would execute the "new" recovery. As a normal recovery, it would load the fstab and try to mount the partitions. The current fstab version is API 3. Almost all ROMs (no matter how close to AOSP) would have F2FS support. When we open a typical fstab:
Code:
/dev/block/platform/sdhci-tegra.3/by-name/APP /system ext4 ro wait
/dev/block/platform/sdhci-tegra.3/by-name/CAC /cache f2fs noatime,nosuid,nodev,nodiratime,discard,inline_xattr,inline_data,inline_dentry wait,check
/dev/block/platform/sdhci-tegra.3/by-name/CAC /cache ext4 noatime,nosuid,nodev,nomblk_io_submit,journal_async_commit,errors=panic wait,check
Note that the second line is the declaration for the /cache in f2fs. Stock AOSP recovery doesn't support f2fs. That's why the above error shown. Since it fail to mount /cache, the last_locale is not loaded and recovery would hang.
How to recover?
Naturally, you have to flash TWRP again.
First of all, you need to boot into bootloader (fastboot mode)
Some init.xxx.rc might start adbd earlier and in this case "adb reboot bootloader" would do the job.
If adbd was not started before the hang, the command won't work. In this case you can only use the pwr+vol. down combination.
If it is still hanging, the buttons might not work. Press the power button continuously might lead to repeatedly reboot. It is better to make sure the device is OFF first.
1. Connect to a charger.
2. Press the power button until you see the charging image
3. Release the power button immediately.
4. After that, press the volume down button first, and then the power button.
It would go to the bootloader.
Note: /system is not really formatted during flashing. To make sure no residue left in /system, it is better to wipe the /system before flashing.
For ROM builders, there is a flag BOARD_USES_FULL_RECOVERY_IMAGE. Set it to true will stop the generation of recovery-resource.dat (in /system/etc) and break the above formula.

If you want anyone to help, you have to provide details.
The tested Gapps' are listed in OP. "No matter which gapps" ?
Can you tell us which one and version you actually tried?
What's your flashing procedures? etc.

Procedures (clean flash)
- rom
- gapps
- supersu
- reboot
- no playstore/play services have been installed after reboot
I used explorer to check and found that those gapps are installed (e.g. Vending.apk) but their sizes are all in 0kb.
the gapps I used were opengapps PICO and Banks. (I tried both. All after clean flash)
Finally I got playstore installed as follows
- flash rom/gapps/supersu
- reboot
- uninstall some system apps I don't need
- flash gapps again
then the playstore appears in app drawer. (And it works)
However, I have another big problem after reboot.
My device is now stuck in bootloop after splashscreen.
It just shows message as follows and I can't enter recovery/bootloader.
Supported API: 3
E: unknown fs_type "f2fs" for /cache
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_locale
In the following page I found a solution "adb reboot bootloader" but I can't even enter bootloader/fastboot mode.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nex...ip-linux-tegra-nv-3-4-bringup-t3128195/page46
still trying...
Any helps would be appreciated.
Thanks.

- no playstore/play services have been installed after reboot
I used explorer to check and found that those gapps are installed (e.g. Vending.apk) but their sizes are all in 0kb.
the gapps I used were opengapps PICO and Banks. (I tried both. All after clean flash)
Finally I got playstore installed as follows
- flash rom/gapps/supersu
- reboot
- uninstall some system apps I don't need
- flash gapps again
then the playstore appears in app drawer. (And it works)
However, I have another big problem after reboot.
My device is now stuck in bootloop after splashscreen.
It just shows message as follows and I can't enter recovery/bootloader.
Supported API: 3
E: unknown fs_type "f2fs" for /cache
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_locale
In the following page I found a solution "adb reboot bootloader" but I can't even enter bootloader/fastboot mode.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nex...ip-linux-tegra-nv-3-4-bringup-t3128195/page46
still trying...
Any helps would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I think you are not using the Official TWRP. There are similar reports having the same problem for other MM ROMs too.
You may try the Official TWRP 3.0.2 here (follow the link if you have a Tilapia) and flash everything again.
You might have corrupted your /cache and /data. It is better format them (to ext4 or f2fs) in the Official TWRP again.
Good luck!

Thanks for your suggestion but the TWRP I used were downloaded from TWRP's official website, so I supposed it is official version.
I can't flash TWRP again as I am still struggling to enter bootloader mode.

Which version? eariler version might have a wrong fstab which have issue on f2fs.
Make sure you got the latest version 3.0.2
You can't go to boot loader?
That means you press pwr+vol down and it won't reboot to bootloader?
That's strange.
"adb reboot bootloader" only work if the adbd is up. That means you can use "adb devices" to check the existance of your device.
You may try this:
1. connect to the charger
2. pressing the pwr button for > 8 seconds.
See if the tablet reboot. If yes, it would boot into charging mode. Pwr+vol down again would work.
If it doesn't reboot after you pressed say 20 seconds, you need to remove the battery.
Good luck!
@daniel_hk
Thanks for the new AOSP build Daniel. Nice work fixing the hardware decoder, my Netflix is now working and I was able to play one of my MP4 movies with BS Player in HW mode. I've been changing back and forth between your first AOSP 7 build and your DU 7 build with dirty flashes. With this build I decided to clean flash and at first things were very sluggish but settled down after a reboot and probably after Google finished whatever it does in the background. LOL Aside from a few occasional random force closes, it's running pretty well.
A couple of observations:
As mentioned, I did a clean install with this build. I'm using official TWRP 3.02 and installed the rom and 7.0 Open Gapps nano 20160915 at the same time and when it booted up for the first time, there were no gapps installed. I powered down and then went back into TWRP and reflashed the gapps, this time they were there upon reboot. Surprisingly, I didn't have to set permissions for Google Play or Play Store, as they were already correctly set??? I did run into a snag when trying to download apps from PS, clearing the data for the download manager app solved that problem for me.
I installed a camera app (HD Camera) from Play Store and it works but when I use my phone's camera, it reminds me how crappy the N7 camera is. LOL
After setting things up, I wanted to try phhsuperuser (no Magisk) to root and it went fine. All of my apps that require root worked...except Titanium Backup. I tried uninstalling/reinstalling both phhsuperuser and Titanium but couldn't get it to work. I rely on Titanium quite a bit, so I flashed Supersu 2.78 and all's well.
Thanks again.

Do games work on this rom?
Hi,
This is the best 7.0 ROM so far !!!
Smooth, video HW decoding is working, games work perfect.
As webdroidmt said I also had to reflash GAPPS to have GAPPS installed and i had to give proper permissions on Google Play service to stop seeing the "google play service stop" message.
All Apps/games that i installed are working properly.
Thanks Daniel_hk for your work
Many thanks Works like a charm !
Is SEpolicy restrictive in your build? (I cannot see it from Settings -> about tablet)
.
Can you post your manifest on Your Github for easier building ?
Hi, currently testing your ROM, looks awesome!
When Browsing the web with Chrome, loads and loads of SELinux denials, mostly when the page loads:

In any case, it's a good practice to read the console after flash anything. There might already be essential messages which not necessarily in red.
I also experience SuperSU need to flash again. I just found out something that might help. Seems SuperSU would use the cache to start a checking process in the next boot. I don't know if it would help gapps too.
1. Try factory reset before flashing.
2. Flash ROM+Gapps+SuperSU
3. After that don't do wipe cache/d-cahce again. (factory reset already include this action)
Good luck!

I think you meant "Enforcing". Yes, it is enforcing. Only some Custom ROM would show this in About but not AOSP.
There is a shell command "getenforce" which you can check the SEPolicy status.
If you read the OP, you would know its an AOSP without any mod/tweak, just porting. You can get the manifest and all the helps in https://source.android.com.
Good luck!

Chrome has many versions and it should not be an untrusted app. I'm testing the CarbonROM which has a bloated Chrome and being treated as isolated app. It might take time for those UID's being properly handled.
I already included some extra permissions which would be include in my later builds.
Anyway, we would encounter denials more often in apps. That's what newer Android intent to do.

This is repeated every 5 minutes during deep sleep. I'm not an expert, but this probably doesn't help with battery drain
I'm also having some touch sensitivity issues when coming out of deep sleep or off the charger. I have to do some more testing, then I will have more details.
I wanted to try this 'Sept 23' ROM as it should play video OK: in the end I got it to work, and I can now indeed play video in some video based apps that did not work before. I used the older DU ROM and also the nAOSP ROM of millosr. There video does not work yet.
But with this Sept23 ROM I had a fight with Gapps to get it to work... First the Gapps I normally use failed to install in TWRP. At least, that is what I think I saw: the progress bar suddenly jumps ahead as if the install process was broken off somehow. So I again clean wiped all and now used opengaps-pico. That installed fine, but on first boot, no gapps. So I again installed opengapps and now finally I had working playstore. Strange, I never ran into something like this before (I am mostly active on Xperia S with nAOSP).
But the story ends well, as my video now works: great job !

Linux ISO - Unbrick the Fire HD6/HD7 [Video] [Testers Wanted]

Testers wanted: Anyone who uses this method, let me know if you can access stock recovery after this method.
Summery
Thanks to the amazing work by our active member @bibikalka, a method was found to unbrick these devices Thread link here. The method he found was slightly tedious for some people, so I've decided to put together a Linux iso that you can boot into on your computer with everything you need to get your device running again. It uses the same methods proposed but makes things easier. This comes with all the necessary drivers, scripts to do everything you need, all the img files needed to flash, a hex editor for advanced users, and more. Before the scripts included in this OS, determining the option (A, B, or C) to take in order to unbrick the device required .part files to be evaluated manually. Now with the custom script, it can quickly evaluate what option to take.
Video Instructions
Brief Instructions
1. Download the Linux iso:
Linux ISO
2. Burn the iso to a USB drive or cd
3. Boot into the operating system
4. Type "root" at the login prompt
5. Right click on the desktop and choose file manager. Go to "aftv2-tools" folder
6. Right click on file manager and press "open in terminal"
7. From device turned off, enter command "./handshake.py", then plug in device. You may need to do this a couple times to get a connection. Try pressing volume keys & power etc to get it connected. See video if you have problems
8. After handshake is complete, run "./reader.sh"
9. After all addresses are read in, run "./determineOption.sh". You should get back a result of A, B, or C
10. Depending on the option returned (A,B,or C), run "./readerSpecialOptionA.sh", "./readerSpecialOptionB.sh", or "./readerSpecialOptionC.sh". This is an optional step but may be useful if you want to back up part files or their were no options available. Back up part files to a usb drive if you want to be safe.
11. Now the actual unbricking. Run "./unbrickOptionA.sh", "./unbrickOptionB.sh", or "./unbrickOptionA.sh" depending on your option. This can take about 40 minutes
12. hold volume up and run "./complete.sh" at the same time to get into TWRP
13. boot into your default operating system on your computer
BE VERY CAREFUL FROM NOW ON
13. We will be installing Fire OS 5.3.1. If you are not installing this ROM, make sure you know what you are doing. Download the ROM:
update-kindle-20.5.5.2_user_552153420.bin
14. Download 5.4.1_1133_stock_recovery_uboot.zip: 5.4.1_1133_stock_recovery_uboot.zip. Without this you could turn your device into a paperweight. This installs stock recovery and a uboot version that MUST be installed. This file was taken from the thread here: how-to-upgrade-to-lollipop-root-gapps
15. Rename the ROM extension from .bin to .zip
16. Transfer the two files to the Fire
17. Do a factory reset. Flash the ROM and uboot&recovery file
18. Reboot! Your device should now be working. It will take about 15 mins to boot up.
Big thanks to @bibikalka for helping work everything out and for the initial unbrick method.

well, after seriously struggling with the parent thread mentioned in the OP I've managed to get to TWRP & am just waiting for my win10 machine to install it's updates before attempting to adb push the uboot & zip files for installation back to fireOS.
feels great to see the screen displaying something other than the looping amazon logo after months of frustration. I do not have the words to express my gratitude for @powerpoint45 for an excellent & well thought through tool and walkthrough. special mention also goes out to @bibikalka

great to hear! I hope everything works for you! After you get everything done, can you check if you can get into recovery.
after flashing both zips & rebooting I've now got my working fire (OS 5.3.1.0) back. thank you Mr PowerPoint!
i tried rebooting to recovery & it now takes me to the stock amazon recovery not TWRP..... which is unfortunate.
I did get asked if I wanted to install SuperUser which was a no-brainer YES. although I'm staying offline until I identify a functional (fast) flavour of android to flash. suggestions welcome.

Good to hear everything is working. Ya TWRP does not work with 5.x bootloader. Good to hear you can get into stock recovery because I had some incidents where I could not get into it. Thanks for responding. The only custom ROM ATM is CM13.

sorry to trouble you again but do you know where I can find a guide/walkthrough of how to root via adb & install twrp or cwm to allow flashing of a rom & gapps..
I can only find the kingroot method & the CM11 rom discussion. where might I find the CM13 you mentioned?
I have searched fruitlessly. I guess I just need a little guidance to avoid running straight into another brick.
cheers.

I meant to say CM11. This guide is probably one of the best http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-hd/general/how-to-upgrade-to-lollipop-root-gapps-t3163950/page1
This is a bit older one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-hd/general/how-to-downgrade-to-4-5-3-root-device-t3139351/page1
In order to have TWRP, you must have a 4.x bootloader so CM11 would work with it.
Thank you

In the second step does not respond to the order ./reader.sh
Also tried

Does not respond
By the way tried way on more than one device
And tried through the system Max os x and the system arch-custom-firehd67-unbrick100516.iso did not work and also the same result

I am also getting the same results with my HD 7 4th gen. The handshake completes just fine, but the reader just hangs. When I'm in recovery, I get errors saying the /cache folder failed to mount. I'm thinking the memory is corrupt and there is no way to fix this.

Unfortunately it appears that with the latest bootloader on the latest Amazon update that they have disabled these commands (such as reading and writing). Unfortunately if you can't get into recovery with (vol+ & power) then it is currently unrecoverable. Best option for an unrecoverable device would be to buy another motherboard from eBay or some place. They are pretty cheap and easy to replace. I've had to do it a couple times now.
Confused
First you say it should be OK to downgrade:

Although, it's unclear how, since reports indicate that sideloading older

BTW, are we sure that this is *disabled* as opposed to _tweaked_?
(e.g. by changing the protocol slightly by, say, requiring an extra byte
or two "confirmation" before execution? has anyone bothered reversing
the bootloader? [Please excuse my ignorance, but would this be handled
by UBOOT, TEE1, or some other component?])
So, what's the current best option for 5.3.1?

My understanding is that you only need to worry about bricking if You are downgrading to another lollypop ROM. We found out that the device has a fuse that is set in later lollypop ROMs where it will check against the current version. But this check only seems to be on lollipop ROM's. As for the aftv2 protocol, you might be right but I don't know enough about that yet to know. Currently we have no unbrick method for latest bootloader. If you can get into recovery then you could sideload but most can't get into recovery during brick.
I've followed the steps but not into twrp, only screen amazon and reset. I'm not good at English

Newbie - No Chroot on Nexus 5 Installation

New User, so apologies if this post is in the incorrect format :fingers-crossed:
Sorry if TL,DR: but the more information on my issue I give you the less chance your advice encounters any variables.
Recently got into ethical Hacking / pentesting.
Wanting to use a nethunter ROM on my Nexus 5 so when I inevitably break something its replaceable and not my gaming rig.
I did the following:
- Installed Nexus Root Toolkit on my laptop.
-Unlocked the boot loader from this first.
-Then installed Root Permissions and TWRP
These initial steps seemed to have worked.
Boot loader marked as unlocked, SU app installed upon booting new ROM, checks as rooted, and TWRP was being interacted with on the next step.
I then selected the 'advanced' menu in the Nexus Root Toolkit.
And flashed the .zip file for the hammerhead nethunter build version 3.0
There was advice to do several things during this step which I have ignored due to not understanding the process.
- installing gapps. I believe the gapps version for hammerhead is 6.0 however it's listed purpose was to allow access to Google play apps which I have so I discarded this step.
- installing over cryogenmod 14.1 as my Android build is marshmallow 6.0.1. This is the advice I received on the official Kali site, that Nethunter was designed to be used over CM, and perhaps my issue as I flashed it over the stock OS for the phone.
Once the nethunter zip file was flashed through the root Toolkit, I rebooted my phone and logged on. After the initial setup I had all of the applications and the background for the KL Nethunter build, however I encounter a major issue trying to set them up.
When I go to set up the Chroot. I select download option, and then "full Chroot install".
I am then prompted with a message saying bad handshake / server error and I am unable to get past this stage.
The error message is " javax.net.sslSSL handshake exception" no valid pins found in chain.
I am not using a mobile carrier only Wi-Fi.
This is killing me because obviously it means I basically don't have nethunter lmao  really not funny but any human input you guys can offer with this challenge would be immensely appreciated. I want to begin hooking this up to a TP Link Wi-Fi receiver and I'm extremely demoralised by the fact I can't complete what is essentially " the easy bit ".
Disclaimer - I will follow any suggested links to the letter but for the record. I have combed YouTube. Google. XDA and several other sources for a fix to this. I am aware I need a Kali " arm-hf" file however can't find a repository for such a download or I would download it to the Sd and try to mount it manually!
I just pretty much completed the same process on my nexus 7 (2012) which resulted in me being stuck at the same point. Doing a search has lead me here for possible resolution to our issues.
"The error message is " javax.net.sslSSL handshake exception" no valid pins found in chain."
UPDATE:
I was able to locate the file within the zip file we had flashed to install kali.
Full path was /data/local/kalifs-full.tar.xz
I manually extracted and copied to /emulated/sdcard and ran the chroot wizard and chose to install from sd, it's extracting now.
I'll update once extraction has completed (this tablet has the slowest writes, ever..)
Here is the link to kali chroot.

I see they dropped support for the nexus 7 2012, likely due to lack of space. I was able to get a full extract done, but hope enough info has been relayed to get you and anyone else past the error we had received. If I pick up where I left off, I'll try to provide an update on this, tabled for now.
