[Bug Report] KitKat 4.4.2 NB3 || i9500 - Galaxy S 4 General

Creating this topic separately, so that it can get the needed attraction. This is where one should report all the bugs, not discuss about it. If mods think it is needless and close the topic further then the loss won't certainly be mine.
This is the first bug I have noticed so far.
The lock-screen clock does NOT update after a deep sleep (just don't touch the device for around 15-20 minutes), often! On previous occasions the clock showed the last updated time for about a second or two max before showing the current time, but now it just doesn't update at all, and stuck at the last update/screen on time, until you press the power button to turn the screen off and on again. Pretty annoying bug, can be a culprit when you are in a hurry.

Two things which annoy me a lot; have you noticed that the carrier label on lock screen is not in the middle? Very ugly.
Also the battery icon in the status bar is not familiar with the other icons, (the battery has kitkat AOSP design and other icons have TouchWiz).

I found 2 bugs relate to s view mode.
1.When in s view mode(lid closed), home button is disable so I can't wake the device with home button and can't take screenshot of s view mode using home+power button.
2.Samsung alarm app in s view mode. The stop and snooze buttons is below/outside the interaction windows of s view case so I can't press it.
I found these bugs on both omega rom and wanam lite rom with full wipe but has never tried on stock rom yet(cause I'm afraid of knox bootloader).

That's the first thing I noticed, it looks really awkward. Maybe it will place the carrier label in middle like before if you disable that camera icon which is newly introduced, don't know, haven't tried.

Okay, thanks for informing, I am on stock ROM with stock BL obviously, so let me check these, but I need to understand what's S-View mode? Is that something under S-Memo app or ?

It's the screen that appear in the cutout window when you use the case like Samsung S-View cover
Here is the pictures of s-view cover and alarm in s-view mode in jelly bean which are normal. (Images are from Google.)

well its not a bug, samsung has disable all third party apps that its not from them, you have to use the original samsung s-view to work properly

No
1.S4 doesn't have chip to check like on Note 3, so if samsung disable it the original samsung s-view will also be disabled.
2.I use spigen case and it's still work, It's just that software become buggy.

Has anyone been able to solve the bug mentioned above? First, the snooze / dismiss button does not appear in the S-view window. As I open the cover I see these buttons just below the s-view window area and move my finger to that position, but by then the cover is fully opened and therefore the buttons go further down to the regular position. By the time I'm through with snoozing, I've lost my desire to snooze a lil longer

Problem with the internal storage in 4.4.2
Hi to all.
I came here because I have a problem with my internal storage since I upgraded my S4 (I9500) to oficial Kit Kat 4.4.2. It seems that apps can't access the internal storage so I cant download files, save files from dropbox or even record a vine from the app. I have no problem taking photos or viewing them with the stock camera app, so I don't know what could it be. I hope you guys could help me. Thanks.
PS. I have tried this fix http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2607215 but it didn't work

Okay, I am going back to 4.3 today, enough of this KitKat nonsense, But before doing that just asking once again, could the bug related to lockscreen clock mentioned in OP be fixed in any way?
Thanks.

Update: I have changed the subject title because I know that disabling "press menu to unlock" was a highly requested feature, but this thread isn't getting much action. I just wanted to make sure people knew it was here.
Geek For Me is proud to present...
a sleepy time release...
Bug Fixes and Requests for Lock Screen Related Stuff
I'm going to try and lay this out in some sort of logical order but there's going to be a lot on here so it's going to look a little messy. But I'll try! All of these fixes were done by me (flipz) so please give credit where credit is due. These are not bugs in Fresh Rom or feature requests that were necessary sent directly to me. These are bugs that affect all copies of the Sprint 2.1 based roms out right now. Thanks. PS- I was half asleep while typing all of this up and prepping the files, so please excuse any issues.
Bug:
Vanilla lock screen is all jumbled up. More information was already released here but I'll be repeating most of it.
The vanilla lock screen source code in all of our 2.1 leaks from Sprint have suffered this. The information isn't displayed properly on the page. Only time will tell if our final release will ship like that.
If you decide to use the vanilla lock screen then you will also need to use either the vanilla clock or a 3rd party application. This is because HTC's world clock is integrated in to HTC's lock screen, which you would have removed. For this reason I have ported the clock over to use with it. If you set an alarm in HTC's world clock then it will go off in the morning but you won't be able to stop it. Again... If you are using the vanilla lock screen then you must set your alarm in android's clock application (or a 3rd party app) and not in HTC's if you want to be able to turn it off in the morning.
I have made 3 different patch options. These have only been tested on Fresh 2.0d but should work perfectly fine on any rom based on Fresh 2.0d or DamageControl. All 3 are going to remove HTCLockScreen so make sure you aren't applying this update.zip unless you want to use the vanilla lock screen. It does wipe your dalvik-cache so expect a long reboot (5+ minutes) after flashing it.
Feature Request:
By default the "Menu" button will turn on and then unlock the phone. This is seen as a bug by many because it constantly causes the phone to unlock itself in your pocket.
While it isn't a bug I was able to remove it from both the vanilla lock screen and HTC's lock screen.
Bug:
When using the Menu button to unlock the phone in Sense UI it pulls up the home screen menu after hitting menu the second time, when the expected result is for the phone to just be unlocked.
I fixed this on the Rosie.apk from Fresh Rom 2.0d so if you are using any other rom or theme then you may noticed changes in your rosie.
Request:
Make the vanilla lock screen opaque so that you can't see right through it.
So far we haven't been successful in getting an actual wallpaper there, however I was able to modify the background color.
This one requires that you already have vanilla lock screen working, so grab one of the ones above to get it running, then flash this. This file is based on a file from Fresh Rom so you may see a slight change in your theme if you aren't using fresh.
DOWNLOAD ALL THE PATCHES AND GET MORE INFORMATION HERE: http://geekfor.me/fixes/bugfixes-requests-lock-screens/
I figured I should throw in there that the thread title doesn't mean I am taking request. A couple of the fixes in here are things that I have seen requested all over the boards. One in particular (disable pressing menu to unlock the phone) has been getting asked since release.

So how do we do this? Having that clear screen is really annoying.
Thanks for all your hard work!
.
If I wanted the lock screen that didn't let the menu key unlock, and the black background, would I flash them on top of each other or is the black background not an option with the menu key "fix"?
Thanks for the hook up Flipz. This is perfect. I can deal with a black background until this is solved. You kick a$$!!!
Flizpmode if I were to use the blackvanilla screen, would that affect my rosie that I would be using at the time?

Doesn't seem to have affected mine.
I noticed two things:
1. First boot takes about as long as flashing a new ROM
2. Hitting menu to unlock doesn't bring up the menu, just unlocks it.
Nice work Flipz, thank you.

I just came back to report that. I flashed the lock zip without menu unlock, and then black background over it and it worked.
But.. if you're running DarchVanilla with the Gomorrah white theme, the black lock screen overwrites the white taskbar making it very hard to read the black clock/symbols on a black background. This affects the task bar at all times, not just when the lock screen is up. So anyone running that particular setup or something like it probably won't want to flash the black background.
This has been what I've been waiting for flipz you're the man!!!!

+1 Disabling the menu button unlock could signal the end of butt dialing on the Hero!
Ok, so I tested it...re-installed my custom theme. Lockscreen works, but lost the black background. Oh well. I can live with transparent.

i just noticed that when i hold the power button to turn off the phone, put it in airplane mode, or turn off the 3G radio, the menu is completely messed up. not sure whether it was this or not, though.

Nice app, need translation?!
Nice app.
I found the setup a bit confusing, but i don't really know how it could be made better.
After trying it i got some FCs:

I'm using a i9000 on latest cyanogen build from repo.

Yea, I wasn't too happy with the setup, but... I only found out about the brightness thing after testing it out on a i9000 too. Tried a more automated approach, but doesn't produce the same results as regular presses. I'll upgrade the setup process when I find a better solution.
Thanks for the logs, I tried reproducing the problem, but didn't get a force close, but I think I might know what the problem might be.
Will get to work on that.
lol the font looks really really cute.
I'm still not able to reproduce the forceclose, but thanks to the logs, I believe I fixed the problem. One of them was leftover code I missed removing which strangely wasn't causing me any problems.
The other... should be fixed.
You'll see an update soon.

And could you add a "disable stock lockscreen" feature?? It would be highly appreciated

I'm currently fixing up the call lock right now.
There wasn't a disable stock lockscreen feature because it was supposed to disable the stock lockscreen automatically. However, that only seems to be working on the phones I'm testing on and strangely, the phones I can test on won't show the stock lockscreen, but some others does.
I'll be doing some more work into this part.
Update
New update out. Fixed up the calling. Now, the incoming call and incall screens won't be locked up. After call, it will lock back up. This works if you press the power button to turn off too.
New Feature. Find it in experimental setting. New feature affects the screen time out. Now, if you want, the Screen Timeout will lock with Void Lock instead of turning off the screen. Good feature for those like me who uses the WakeLock and avoids using the power button.
I forgot to disable my other lock screen and now seem to be locked out of my phone. Evo 4g with decks rom. any suggestions?
Great dev! can't wait for it to work completely on ICS
Couple of issues
evo 3d: when going to uninstall the uninstall screen flashes like crazy, buttons are highlighted (force stop, clear data, move to sd, uninstall) and blinking, takes several taps before you can get it uninstalled.
evo 4g: also when uninstalling it flashes, sometimes you have to clear data, move to SD card, then uninstall
it's one of the oddest things I've ever seen... and no, I'm not the one who left the nasty market comments.

Wow! that's also one of the oddest things I've heard about.
But, I can't imagine why it would happen. None of my code goes beyond the lockscreen and shouldn't affect the uninstalling at all. I just did an uninstall on my phone, tablet, and old phones to see if I get the same issue, but it was able to be uninstalled properly.
The only uninstall issue I know of is that the app is granted Device Admin status after the first time you press the Void Lock app, but that will only give you an Uninstall is not Successful message instead of the issues you are having.
Also odd that it happened to both of your phones.
I can't seem to think of why that uninstalling problem happened and I'm 100% positive that none of the code for Void Lock will affect the uninstalling. But if all that flashing and etc happens only when you are uninstalling Void Lock then Void Lock should definitely be the culprit. Its so strange...
Hmm, could it be related to your rom?
I also never had to clear data or move to SD card to uninstall it. Just disable device admin in the phone's Security Settings and then uninstall it and it'll work properly.
I'm not too worried about the market comments. I guess I expect it because of all the incompatibility issues I have not been able to predict when I released it. Yet, it does work for a lot of phones so I wouldn't even know which phones to restrict. All the problems seems to be coming from manufacturers making changes to the default lockscreen. Still working on fixing all of that right now.
I am a bit upset at those nasty market comments that rates low because of not being able to uninstall. I did give instructions in the market description. I guess I'll need add a new tab in the Settings to describe how to uninstall.
nice lockscreen.

[APP] Glimpse Notifications

~~~~~~ Introduction ~~~~~~
Using Android Lollipop/Marshmallow's lock screen notifications?
Tired of having to press the power button to see them?
Want your phone to turn on new notifications, but only when you grab to look at it?
Want your phone to turn on right when you take it out of your pocket?
Then this app is for you!
Introducing the all new efficiency app Glimpse Notifications:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
}
This all new app fills an annoying hole in Android Lollipop's lock screen notification system. It's nice, it's shiny, but you always need to push that damn power button. This app does it for you, and also respects quiet times and whether or not your device is in your pocket.
It also does this:
recurring notifications (screen on and/or sound)
emulate LED notifications that the system lockscreen no longer shows
Double-tap to lock function for lockscreen
custom lockscreen display time
lockscreen lock-on-cover function
At the same time the app is completely for free and without ads!
Yes, been using that one (and others) as well, but I always wondered why everybody wants to reinvent the lockscreen. I'm using a pattern lock and found none of the existing solutions to work well.
Strange. So, have you observed the screen turning on even if the proximity sensor is covered?
I plan on adding an extension to the pocket mode to cover the following use case: if the phone is pocketet or face down and you hear a notification, you typically take the phone and see what happened. Then I want it to turn on, but not necessarily everytime I take it out of my pocket. So something like "if coming out of pocket AND last notification less than N seconds ago -> turn on screen".
Perhaps we can sort your issues with the sensor out on the way.
yes, I covered the proximity sensor and sent the test notification and the screen turned on
I tried a different app that does basically the same like yours and it has the same problem, so maybe it's something related to Samsung?
Linked here from the OP's comment in the ACDisplay xda portal article. Looking very nice so far. Only feature I miss from ACDisplay is the active mode, i.e. screen on when removed from pocket, regardless of notification. This is a great way to keep power button use down, especially for devices like the N5 with known hardware button failures.
Yeah I already assumed people will want that and I'm planning to cover this use case as well. Personally, when I had apps working like that in the past I found it a bit annoying that everytime I took out the phone to put it like on the table it turned on (even if there were pending notifications). That's why I thought about how I could narrow down the logic to be more useful.
Well, I have to say, this is a great app. The only thing it needs is the black list feature, that would really create a full circle of usability and applicability.
Thanks. Well, as a matter of fact I started out with having a black list and found that to be less useful than just marking the few notification sources I'm actually interested in (like Mail, SMS, WA). I'll think about throwing in a switch to configure black/white list behaviour, but it's not top of the list TBH.
Big oops here - I just realized that for the testing notification, I skip all the other checks because I figured it would confuse people if the other other filters prevented the test. Turns out the way I did it it confused us all. I'm going to change that in the next version (which is taking shape).
I tried it out with a "real" notification (by sending myself an email)... still the screen turns on with the proximity sensor being covered
Yeah, I can understand your point, but a black list, in addition to allowing users to block apps whose notifications they don't consider important/desirable, would also allow users to block out any app/process/service that Glimpse may report about, such as 'wireless networks available', you know, things from Android system or System UI, whose notifications just drain the battery without any real purpose.
But hey, it's just a suggestion, it's totally up to you what gets implemented.
Great app nevertheless..
Could it be possible that instead of whole screen being lit up, only the area where notification is shown is lit up in black and white color? Just like active display ?
Korean Firmware update November 20 2015
Well Korea got another firmware update this morning. The update never gave details but here is what I've found so far:
In the settings under Device, there is now an "Auto open apps" option. Basically when you scroll through your apps list, whatever app you stop on will automatically open.
Also in the settings under "connections" there's an alert option now to be notified via vibration when disconnected from your phone.
Under the display setting there's now a screen timeout option. 15 secs, 30 secs, 1 min, or 5 minutes.
Also some bloatware was added. Apps added were a world clock, starbucks, a korean navigation app, and the flipboard news briefing app. There's also a few watchfaces added, nothing new, same ones shown at the initial unveiling. All of them can be uninstalled thankfully.
There's a notification indicator option now also in display. It will make a little orange circle appear on your watchface until you've viewed the notification. Only works if you don't have notifications set to automatically turn on your screen in the Gear Android app.
When reading the text of a notification, it will make the font larger if you double tap the screen.
Cosmetic differences:
now says "add widget" under the + symbol when you scroll all the way right.
On a notification, when you swipe up to dismiss, it now shows a trash can.
For a notification reply, the emoji symbol has been replaced with a more traditional circle happy face.
When you scroll right on the watchfaces menu there's an option to "Add template" now. It then lets you choose from the watchfaces that can be stylized and make a new face from them.
I noticed small cosmetic changes inside the S-health app, but nothing else beyond that. I've found nothing related to sleep monitoring.
Also checked yesterday to see if a reminder can be set using S-Voice, and that is also still broken.
I can't believe they didn't map the top button to toggle most recent app... it's so annoying having to go back to the app screen to get to your music app while running... the button is basically wasted without a double click or long press option.
I glad they brought back the vibrate when disconnected function.
In SHealth I'm able to swipe/twist to the right and get to the music controller, which then returns to SHealth when I press the back button.
Coming from Pebble I expected apps to be persistent and not just to have the watch exit home to the watchface everytime the display times out. It's really nice to have a persistent app for a music player. I could adjust the track or volume without looking at my wrist. And it's also greatly needed for the stopwatch. A settings option for persistent apps would be great.
My Gear app updated this morning, I see no change in the watch. The app on the phone has a whole new layout, but nothing has changed on the watch. Still shows the same J3 software version. I rebooted the watch and nothing. Do I have to reboot my phone? I hate to try this as it always breaks my weather app and I have to totally uninstall all gear apps on the phone and factory reset the watch to get it working again.
If it's not a Korean Watch, just be patient. The app was updated, but they have not pushed the new firmware out to the rest of the world. To confirm this, go to Settings->About Gear->Update Gear Software->Update now.
Ah, I understand now. Thanks, got to excited to soon.
display time out
So I got the update on my classic watch, there is 5 new watchfaces.
There is also a new option on the display settings so now you can choose the time from 15 sec up to 5 min.
If i set the display timeout on 5 min it's nothing change...
So I do not understand what the problem is or the new options mean???
Could anyone help me?
Regards
Elvis
You guys are lucky.
In korea some devices that are updated got stuck at booting logo.
I think it will be soon fixed and then you can get this update.
I agree there should be a long press top button feature. The way I deal with this problem is I set long press home to the music player. Then to access apps you press home then press home again.
Encrypted Phone
So I have the Nexus 5X, aka phone is encrypted.
My watch is from Korea and the app does have an update, but I get the error message that it cannot install because phone is encrypted. Any solutions?
My Gear Fit, which isn't actually Tizen, but resembles it a bit, has an option for what you want to do after timeout - return to watch face, or remain on last app. Very handy, and Samsung could certainly add this option, since they already know how it works.
XDA-Developers: Customize the Google Pixel 2’s Active Edge to do any action with Edge Sense Plus [XDA Spotlight]
What is Edge Sense Plus?
Edge Sense Plus was initially just meant for the HTC U series. It let's you customize the squeeze action and adds some more squeeze gestures and features.
But with the Pixel2 also coming with a squeezable frame I had the goal to make it compatible with it too.
..and after a couple of days debugging with @k4r70ng (I don't own the device, big thanks to him, was a great help) we are here now!
Requirements
You have to be on Oreo 8.1 or Android P.
You need to run a STOCK based ROM, because Active Edge is broken on AOSP roms.
You need to be rooted with magisk to use it.
Install the Active Edge System Mod Magisk Module from the MagiskManager Repo and the EdgeSensePlus from the playstore and you are ready to go!
Telegram Group
Join Telegram Edge Sense Plus Group
How does it work
To make it working on the Pixel2 I had to modify the SystemUIGoogle.apk that runs the ElmyraService (Service that processes the squeeze gestures).
I intercept the events and pass them to the EdgeSensePlus Application that starts the appropriate action then that you selected.
Some more adjustments were made, so the squeezing also works when you are in immersive mode, camera or when Google Assistant is deactivated/uninstalled.
What can it do?
Custom actions:
Currently you can choose from over different actions
Quickly Start camera - Also when screen is off and locked
Per App Action - Execute different squeeze actions depending in what app you are!
Sidebar
Gesture Panel - Draw custom gestures to start different actions
Custom App
Shortcuts - e.g. to make direct calls, start tasker tasks and more!
Per app actions:
With the per app action, you can define different squeeze actions per app. So the chosen action will be executed dependent in what app you are currently are.
Double Squeeze: (Premium)
If you often accidentally trigger a short squeeze, that won't happen anymore if you map your desired action to the double squeeze gesture.
You can define a double squeeze interval, to ensure you are quick enough to trigger it every time.
Long Squeeze:
Missed a long squeeze action on your Pixel? Edge Sense Plus has it!
G-Sensor usage: (Premium)
If enabled, will be able to execute different actions depending on the current position of your device, whether it is flat or upright in your hand.
That way you can have six different squeeze gestures: short, long, doublepress in flat or upright device position.
Media control:
The media control will override your set squeeze actions while media is playing so you can control your media.
That includes play/pause, increase/decrease volume and skip to next and previous track.
Squeeze sounds:
Ever thought it would be funny if a squeeze of your Pixel2 would make a sound, if it is a *click*, *oink* , *fart* or whatever you think of?
You can use any .mp3 file to make that happen!
Sidebar:
The Sidebar has 4 different panels, Applications, Shortcuts, Recent Apps (Premium), Quicksettings (Premium).
Panel colors are customizable
Instructions
You must be on at least Oreo 8.1 to to be able to use it. Root with Magisk is required since the magisk module is mandatory!
It is recommended to have a working TWRP backup in case something goes wrong. Check the FAQ for help too.
Like always: Flash on your own risk. I'm not responsible for any damaga to your device
Flash the Magisk Module either in Magisk Manager or TWRP
Install Edge Sense Plus
Enjoy.
Downloads
Now also available via the MagiskManager Repo:
I recommend to install and update the Magisk Module directly via the MagiskManager repository directly in the MagiskManager app.
All releases will be also available on the GitHub repository
Edge Sense Plus:
Ok lol I am blind, thanks for app!
This looks great and more powerful than other options to intercept the squeeze gesture. Thanks for taking the time to port it!
Would it be possible to provide a module download with an Md5? I downloaded and flashed the module, wound up in a bootloop and had to restore a backup. I'd like to try this, but really want to be careful. Thanks
FAQ
Q: Will it also work on the Pixel2 XL?
A: No, it will bootloop your device. There is a separate thread on the Pixel2 XL forum.
Q: My device bootloops after flashing the magisk module.
A: Ensure you are on the latest Pixel2 OTA. To get out of the bootloop, go to the magisk thread and install the magisk uninstaller and then reinstall magisk again.
Q: The magisk module zip is greyed out when I try to install it.
A: I have no explanation why it happens for some. Install a FileManager like SolidExplorer or FX File Explorer, then Select that File Browser in the System File Explorer to select the path
Thanks. Yeah Pixel 2 on the latest January update with TWRP and Magisk 15.2.
Yep it was a bad download. Thanks for the Md5. I'm all set now :good:
Aware of that. Will look into this today. Does not happen on my U11... so debugging will take a bit longer.
Are there any plans to distribute the app through the Play Store? And is it normal for the app to constantly ask me to upgrade to premium? By constantly, I literally mean constantly. It seems to be tied to scrolling down the settings page, and it pops up 2-3 times before I reach the bottom.
Also, will squeezing still silence an incoming call? Are there any settings that might prevent the squeeze from silencing an incoming call?
Currently the app is just visibible for HTC U Devices.
Im afraid of bad ratings from pixel users, since it does just work with root. On the U11 it works without.
Will try improve the scrolling issue.
I just override the google assistant action. So the other native squeeze actions should still work.
Much appreciated (-:
I've noticed that pocket detection makes active edge misbehave. I don't know if this is a known issue, but I thought I'd share my experience.
The other thing I thought was an issue was with setting a shortcut to a Tasker task. For anyone who may not understand how it works, you have to open Tasker and choose "exit" from the menu at the top right of the app before you can set the task shortcut in Edge Sense Plus.
