Battery/Wake Lock Management - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Alarm_rtc. What is using this? Read around a bit and it seems that any app can be causing this.
Am I correct in assuming Light Flow would be responsible in my case?
(I was having problems with a charger and used the app to flash the LED to show me it was actually charging while the screen was off.)

alarm_rtc: This is your phone's internal alarm scheduler, set to wake up your phone for sync, push, etc. Closely related to the AlarmManager PWL.
To fix: Check your apps and make sure they're only set to sync when you want them to, not for constant push or stupid-short intervals.

You can also run Terminal Emulator app and type the below commands:

Froze both those apps and coming up with this now.
Would like to get it down to 1.5-2%/hour with the screen off. Guess I'll keep at it. Nothing better to do.

If you want led control use Ledblinker, I get 2% drop all night long while asleep

Switch location mode to Device only in the Android settings menu.
I notice you are on HSPA. If you are stuck on HSPA, disable LTE so it doesn't keep looking for a signal. Of you have access to LTE, use it. I see you have Tasker. You can automate the radio changes with that.

Screen timeout on calls.

Has anyone discovered a way to keep the screen on longer while on a call?
Is there any way to change this? If I missed another post on this I apologize. Thanks
You can use power manager in the Google Marketplace

One of the best 99 cent app I've ever purchased. Support the Dev, he just lost his job, and the app kicks ass.
Yeah, Power Manager has the option to a max of 2 minutes, but it has never worked for me, it always times out waaay earlier.

i use shake awake free app that causes your phone to turn back on if you move it a certain amount, you can ajust the sensitivity to howevver much you like. mine basically stays on if the phone moves at all while i am on a call
Awesome I will try these. Thanks for the responses.
Power manager doesn't change the timeout for the screen during calls. The only way to change that currently is using the shake program mentioned above. I use both programs and love both of them so when power manager doesn't help with the screen timeout during a call use it for all the other great benefits and select monitor so it can apply the different profiles (which you can customize) for all the situations.
I tired these apps they both seem to work pretty well, any ideas on how this could be done without using an app?

WTF is "0" in my battery history

I've had this on other android devices before but never this bad. Under network usage, the top item is consistently "0". Clicking on it results in FC. I just went to CM7. I dont think the issue came back until I reinstalled all of my apps. I used a network monitor when I was stock rooted and never saw anything unusual. Anyone have any ideas? I have a feeling it is killing my battery.

Bump. I have the same issue. If I click on the item labeled 0, it force closes.

Can you give me a list of all of your apps? Maybe we have a culprit in common.
Bump.......
Sent from my LG-P999 using Tapatalk
I have the same. I believe it is all non system apps lumped together as I don't have any of them listed like I did on my n1. I think the system isn't representative of individual app use for data or battery. The battery history normally lists apps associated with a specific uid if you press each. My theory is something in the framework isn't registering apps independently but grouping them together creating false readouts.
[EDIT] I do see individual apps on network use so I want to strike my theory. Now I'm just back to puzzled.

seems like mine but mine stopped a 999% battery left and i was like wtf?

Sorry, been too busy to check back in on XDA for a few days. I could post a list of apps, but my original observation was during the couple of days after I did all the factory wiping / calibrating to fix my battery life. I didn't have any non-stock apps installed at the time.
The 0 is still there, and still force closes. I was hoping some more people might have insight on this, but it doesn't seem to have caught on.

[Q] Deep Sleep problem in the 4.2.2 update [15.3.A.0.26]

Though the phone shows that it is "not awake", it does not go into deep sleep. Is this a cheap trick from Xperia? :silly:
It remains all the time at 384MHz...
Though I agree that it might be something they did for faster unlocking and all, but then why do they hide it?

This is not normal, maybe some app prevent it from deep sleep. Download better battery stats app and see what is wrong.

I am posting these 5 screenshots below, please see if you find anything that explains this.
And there's one more thing, that when I connected my phone to my laptop, it simply didn't charge
Also the laptop fails to recognise in the MTP mode, and today failed to read the phone in mass storage mode as well. Any hints?

Seems that Walkman keep your phone awake. Please try to force close it in settings and see if phone go to deep sleep after that.
Sent from my C2105 using xda app-developers app
It is not any app related I'm sure (like walkman or settings), but some system app. I'll look into it, but what I wanted to know was that does others experience similar problem? i.e. not actually going into deep sleep
Try install wakelock detector and see the problem..

Low Battery Precautions - battery brightness missing

Hey, i just wanted to let you guys know about Note 3 low battery precautions.
I was using my phone as usual, as i noticed there was brightness slider missing from notification pull-down menu. I immediately checked under: settings-> device -> notification panel ->Brighteness adjustment and setting was checked!
As i became furious, i unchecked and checked that option but it was still missing. At that point i was really upset as this feature is VERY IMPORTANT for me (quick access to brightness). So i rebooted my phone and tryed again, no success. In panic i started checking every thing on my phone, all processes i deactivated (all share play and stuff like that i don't need etc etc...) all defaults than i tought some third party app was to blame for that (many apps can not be removed from notification pull down menu (unfortunately))...
Than i checked if i can adjust brighteness manually in display settings and when i saw that that function was gray (unusable) it hit me... i saw my battery was very low, 3% so i figured this is the reason.
Phone disables the ability to change brightness. Furthermore i couldn't use camera and my music app shuted down at 1% level...
So next time you see brightness slider missing from notification pull down meni, check your battery level... it sure made my heart beat a litle faster...
Cheers

Might not be, but it is for me since it's my first samsung smarphone.. it really grinded my gears..
My first Samsung phone also, however I would never have experienced this as I wouldn't run the battery down to anywhere near 3%.
I typically charge when down to 20 to 30% with the aim of increasing battery life

[Q] What is com.android.systemui and why is it gobbling so much battery?

Since flashing Carbon ROM two nights ago, I've been seeing com.android.systemui consistently at or near the top of my battery stats screen (screen shot below). When I was on Cataclysm, I never noticed this. Is this something I should worry about/deal with?

You've only used 3,% of your battery. See what it looks like later in the day. It should be less than 5%. If it isn't then yes, something is not right. Turn location off until you need it. That week save battery.
Sent from my Nexus 5
the % used in the graph is the % used of total battery drain.
you only lost 3% total battery and 49% of that 3% was used by the system.
there is no problem as of now.
Check out lockscreen notifications if you have pocket mode on it keeps the proximity sensor on all the time and will cause a larger than normal drain.

This is very helpful. Thanks -- I'll try disabling lockscreen notifications/pocket mode.
You cannot tell anything from stats after only a few percent of battery drain. Look again after you've burned 90 percent off the battery.

It's a bug. Reboot helps some cleaning cache others. Google know about it. There's a long thread on this
