Hello to all!
I buyed a phone with a plan for the Carrier Orange Romania, so I had a little discount on the GSM terminal.
It was a gift for my mother.
On the Carrier Orange website, the Phone was Listed as "android gingerbread vers 2.x"
On the internet there was claims, from Samsung that the device is upgradabile to Android 4.x Jelly Bean but they NEVER released it, as the development stopped.
So, as Samsung official statements, was that the phone will be upgraded to Android 4, but they dropped the development, can Samsung and Orange be sued?
As I did a contract (cheap contract anyway) for two years, in the ideea that my mother will have a Android 4 phone, not an android 2.x phone. I really like my contract which I did, as I got good minutes, dataplan and so on, but the phone dose not meet the specifications.
The version of the android is not relevant to my mother as she is not having any interest in installing aplications on the phone but she likes the touchscreen because she can brownse pictures easy on the screen and she can sometimes brownse the web for cooking recipes.
But I AM VERY ANNOYED by the fact that I was "taken as a fool" by Samsung.
So, SAMSUNG DEVELOPMENT TEAM SUCKS and SAMSUNG MARKET STRATEGY is based on LIES and FALSE ADVERTISING, in my country the False Advertising is punished by Law by Contravention and PRISON !
Samsung has announced on September 24, 2012 that Galaxy Mini 2 was to be updated in the future with Android 4.1 "Jelly Bean".
Later, Samsung abandoned development of Jelly Bean for Mini 2.
What do you say, should I forget about this and NEVER buy a Samsung Device, or should I contact the Samsung support for this issue?
I don't wish a custom ROM, I wish the original samsung version of android 4.x on the samsung galaxy mini, why did the development stopped, is the device not able to handle android 4 and is too weak to runt this version of the operating system, (800 mhz processor, 512 mb of ram), or is not having enough "hardisk" memory on it for storage of the operating system? What hell happened, why Samsung abandonated the version of upgrading the phone, after they did made the statesments? Even on gsm arena the phone was listed as "upgradabile" but now is listed as android 2.x, not upgradabile anymore to version 4. What is going on?

I think is kind of copycatting(or "shanzhai",this Chinese term literally refers to themountainstrongholdsof bandits. First borrowed to describe rip-offproducts,it has evolvedto refer also to homemade products, such asvideoparodies of movies) ipad from shenzhen.
this isn't rare in China, and shanzhai quality always badly.
So topic owner(louzhu in English?) don't have too much hope...
I purchased a Sprint Galaxy Tab to give myself an opportunity to get acquainted with Android (it came with ver 2.2 Froyo). After two months reading the xda threads I have basically learned that Android isn't just a few variations (Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, etc.) - but rather each device has its own flavor of Android within those larger general classes. Different ROMs, different kernels, different application compatibilities, etc.
This surely isn't good for Google and/or Android in the marketplace.
This has come to light most vividly while trying to get my Netflix subscription to work on my Samsung Galaxy Tab. Netflix promotes that they support "Android devices" which technically may be true. I suspect there are at least a handful of Android devices supported. Sadly my Galaxy Tab is not among the selected few. And based on the extremely long threads on this subject with such a wide variety of proposed possible solutions, it is not isolated to the Galaxy Tab. This should not be such a big deal. And yes, I realize it is likely the fault of Netflix themselves trying to be the DRM cops that complicate this issue. But dang - how hard can it be???
I've got to ask why? How is it that this same Galaxy Tab can display video from a variety of sources, but not Netflix? And why are there so many 'apps' that will not run on similar (but not identical) Android platforms?
Sorry for venting a bit. But dang....
It would be nice if phone hardware had more of a PC architecture so when a new version of Android was released by google, you could just go and download it, possibly with a Google installer that would auto detect drivers and such. But that's just a dream.

20 years ago it would have been a dream. But today? And a company as agressive as Google? WHY would it still be just a dream?
Google says they want to set an open source 'standard' and I think that is commendable. But it feels like the whole process of implementing and supporting the Android OS is stuck in the '80s - with the same problems and limitations that plagued the early CPM and MSDOS world. Surely Google has resources and smarts enough to do better!
Mostly I am surprised and disappointed that Google hasn't done a better job with this aspect of Android. Surely it will get better...
Google has acknowledged this issue, and it WILL get better. Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) will have even less fragmentation than honeycomb, and be on ALL devices from its release onward. many pre-existing devices will be upgraded to it as well, ending, for the most part, all android fragmentation.
I'm fairly new to the Android OS. I've visited their site and found that there is a version 4 out currently but the Skyrocket I just bought only has 2.3.5.. My question is can I update the OS to 4, or even 3.1/3.2? I would like to get some of the Adobe programs for photo editing but they all seem to require 3.1 or higher. Any help will be greatly appreciated & thanks for taking to time to read my post.

Version 2.x of Android (with various names depending on sub-versions, revisions, etc) is all you'll find on ANY android phone for the next week or so. This is the most recent version tree that works with mobile phones.
Version 3.x of Android, called "Honeycomb" is only for tablets. For example, the samsung galaxy tab 10.1 (8.9, 7.0 plus, etc)
Version 4.x of Android, called "Ice Cream Sandwich" (ICS), is the merging of the phone-based android (2.x) with the tablet based android (3.x.) As of this post, there are NO released phones or tablets with version 4. That will be changing very shortly with the release of the samsung nexus phone (nexus prime, I think) on verizon any day now, and the asus transformer prime tablet (in the next week or three.)
I think the adobe applications you are looking at are designed to only work with tablet devices (as they are the only ones with version 3.x of android.)
Take care
Gary
Thank you for answering Gary, the information you provided was very insightful.

Im very sorry if this doesn't go here but since I couldn't find any forum related to custom-built phones I gave it a shot.
Ok the thing is I recieved a Custom-made android phablet a few months ago. It's a model made by a non-technological company in a political stunt to promote better education in Puerto Rico and to "modernize the classroom environment and how class is taught." And even though only public schools (I go to private) had these benefits I managed to get a hold of one and after months I decided to try it.
But the ugly truth is These "phablets" are just a somewhat mediocre 2011-12 technology with a custom android 4.3 slapped on top. The downside is that the Android version doesn't come with any of google's services and apps and because of it being custom-built No apps are compatible with it.
I managed to download the Google now and chrome apks but they don't run/aren't compatible.
After all that backstory What I mean to ask is:
-Is it possible to activate google apps and services from the phone without taking out it's original version? (After all it's running Jellybean)
If not:
-Is it possible to root the phone and flash another version of android that's a bit more "supportive" of apps?
Or do you simply have any other ideas as of how can I make it a normal android phablet? Im planning on giving it to my little brother after fixing it up.
Thank you in advance and again, I'm sorry if I posted this where it doesn't belong.
Hi there everyone!
My daughter and wife run an S4 on Verizon with the following specs:
Samsung Galaxy S4 Verizon SCH-1545
Android Ver. 5.0.1
Baseband: 1545VRUGOF1
Kernel: 3.4.0 [email protected] #1
Root via: Kingoroot. Verified to have root through Root Check (app store)
My intention was to run Cyanogenmod 11 on them but my parade was rained on when I was told on another forum that this was an impossibility and terribad things would happen if I tried, including but not isolated to the burning of my cat due to the bootloader being locked during a later firmware and OS update.
So I have begun considering looking for a used phone on eBay to replace them that I can root/install Cyanogenmod on. There's a few requirements that I'd like to satisfy, if possible:
1) Capability: I'd like the specs to be at least on par with the S4, including CPU, memory and physical size
2) micro SIM: I don't have an official VZW store within two hours of me and the shipping and over-the-phone SIM activation has proven to be a bit of a pain.
3) accessories available: They need Otterbox cases and super-screenguards.
4) No [email protected]#*t rooting and ROM installable: I don't want to have to do a raindance during a certain moonphase while drinking the blood of a virgin dolphin to get it to happen. I need a phone that is leans more to the side of the spectrum that it's not much of a hassle to put a custom ROM on it. I embrace my noobness.
5) Cheap on the used market would be awesome!
Just spitballing and seeing what the peeps in the know would suggest. I appreciate any and all suggestions and insight!
Thanks for your time!
