Looking for an upgrade, what would you recommend - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I currently have this tablet and it's been working good so far but I'm planning to upgrade soon. I was taken back by how many tablets samsung has out now and don't know which is a suitable upgrade to go for. I can spend around the range of $300. I mainly use it to stream stuff as well as school related use. Any insights will be greatly appreciated? Thanks!

TAB 3
If you are looking for a new TAB pass the TAB 3 it seems that its not a big upgrade and not much faster then the TAB 2.
Cheers

I agree with that..
Tab 3 is rubbish.. A friend has the 2 and it seems sluggish when compared to the 2 and there's no GPU either... Battery seems to last only half the time compared with the 2..
Stay clear as the only advantages are mini usb and slightly lighter

Now that they have told you what NOT to buy... I'll give you a reccomdation on what you do want to look at, I love my note 8. Great tablet and even more affordable now that the note pros are starting to come out

How is the battery life on your note 8 crash613, in terms of streaming?

I don't really do a lot of streaming but I will watch 4 to 5 hours of video and still have more than 50% . I have not really paid much attention to it because it has never been an issue

I don't know what you want to spend on it but take a look at the Xperia tablets or the Nexus ones.
If you really want a Samsung again, take a look at the new Pro series.

nexus 7 (2013)
I guess that's a good choice

[Q] Decisions Decisions!

I Would like some advice on purchasing a tablet, I have trouble making decisions and I have bought and returned about 6 tablets including Archos 80 G9 Turbo, Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 Plus, Hp Touchpad, iPad 2, Asus Transformer Pad 300, yes I know I can't decide! I have decided I want either a 7 or 8 inch tablet though. I would prefer one with dual core processor mainly because I feel like anything less than that lags too much for me. I also want the tablet I purchase to have good development community support(unlike Archos).
So help me decide on a tab and make suggestions and I will answer back to anyone!
Thanks!
Wow! You have been busy "test driving". As you see in my sig I have a few tabs. Each has its good points and less than in areas. I've come to believe there is no "One All-Around BEST Tab". Just the one that suits the users and what they do. My Daily Driver is the GTab 7.7. Mostly due to screen size, speed and scree definition. That said, the others are enjoyable to "take out for a spin" at times also.
Don't set your "bar" too high otherwise you'll never get a tab. Dev support "should" explode once ICS goes mainstream. It's take A LOT of time to dev a device and many of the current hot items are still on HC. No reason to waste time dev on HC when ICS is on the horizon.
One caveat...once/if you decide on a tab.....and "newer shiny" version will be out soon...lol.....it is what it is.

Yeah I definitely agree with you. I would love to get the sg 7.7 but it is too expensive for me and I don't want a data plan. I forgot to mention I'm currently testing a kindle fire haha This one has surprised me, most likely because my expectations were low. I just want something I can carry places without feeling like its as big as my laptop but something reliable.

Yeah the 7.7 is pricey no more than the outrageous prices Apple gets for their "treasures". No doubt. I got mine for $649 US from Malaysia. Unlocked 3G.
Yeah you're right. Anyone else opinions?
I can not imagine anyone not being happy with the tab 7.0 plus; if they buy it for less than $300, and they are o.k. with "HoneyComb", stock! If one wants ICS, then the tab 2 7" is hard to beat for the money ($250) if you can get by with 8 gigs internal ram (or do not mind rooting). Personally, I plan to buy a 7 plus IF it gets ICS in the next couple of weeks, and return my tab 2. 16 gigs of internal I can live with; 8 gigs I am not so sure, but if no ICS for the tab 7 plus, then I will stick with the tab 2 (rooted) for now.
Good luck in your search

I was happy with the 7 plus but I just felt like the Touchwiz holds it back from its true potential. I also didn't like how it didn't have much dev support but I guess that's because of it being on honeycomb still. Do you think the dev support will improve once it receives ics?

I have both the P6800 and the P6200 (7 plus and 7.7). Both the 3G model.
I still can't make up my mind which one i like more LOL.
The P6800 is absolutely fantastic in terms of screen quality and resolution. It is ultra thing and a pleasure to hold. The problem for me is that the extra 0.7 inch they added making it quite wider than the 7plus and it doesn't fit to all pockets anymore.
The P6200 is also great and is more compact to hold. The lower resolution is a downer but it is more responsive with HC on it than the 7.7.
So...i still can't make up my mind which one is more convenient for daily use on the go. I am spoiled and i know it
The lack of development for the GT7+ is being due to Sammy not releasing the source of some drivers, more specifically the wifi. There are a few smart devs that would like to dedicate some time to it but with some of the puzzle pieces missing there's not much they can do. The GT7+ 3G is an incredible machine as it is, too bad it did not have the widespread distribution it deserved in the US market. I still think its the best of the crop.
P_
I would love to get the 7.7 haha. That's like a dream though so I'm shutting that idea Down. But I hear what you guys are saying. Any other suggestions for a tab similar and why from either one of you?
Also, just curious if either one of you 7.7 owners have run antutu or sunspider on it? Would love if you'd share what it got!

[Q] Galaxy note or Galaxy S2

Am currently using HTC HD2 but now I want to buy a new phone.
Am confused big time between S2 & Note. (bigger phone size is not an issue).
Am looking for good hardware with features. I will be using the phone atleast 3yrs after buying it. It should be worthy like my HD2. Am not impressed with S3 & so its not on my list.
What you guys suggest, or any other phone?
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions &

Thanks ✟
Moving to Q&A
was confused to put in Q&A coz this also tends to be sort of comparison between cellphones

Out of those 2 clear choice the Note.
It's a unique device, still got great development going on. Much more real screen estate, S-Pen, just as good as the SGS2. If size is not an issue get the Note. I've played with it many times and it's lovely, a lot of guys that I have come across I've asked them how they like it and they say they love it.
Again both phones are old now, SGS2 is older so if you plan to use it for 3 years you may see no official updates in the next couple of years but devs will continue to work on them.

The S and P Modells are really good.
But well the question was the S2 or Note... I would say the same as nikzDHD take the Note if the size isnt an issue.
If u can wait for the note 2 it will be the best choice :good:

Note2 ???
When is it launching, haven't heard anything yet about it.
I have a friend who has a note. He said nothing compares to it. Also the screen is a huge transition from any other smartphone BUT it does fit in your pocket
Def recommend the Note because it has great specs and Samsung's UI is very consumer friendly.
Note for sure if it nit to big for you, for me is to big, like tab is..

**What phone should I buy next?** -- Not sure what device to buy? Ask here!

Hi everyone,
This thread is a continuation of this thread.
This is here so you can discuss what your next phone/tablet should be, if you're not sure what to pick.
Also, if you need advice as to which device is better than another, then feel free to ask those questions in here aswell.
This is an attempt to clear out all the similar threads being created around these forums.
*NOTE* I will be requesting thread maintenance as and when it is needed, to remove any SPAM comments
Excellent, I hope this will attract some discussion on new devices so new threads won't be opened.
I am not looking for a new phone right now, well maybe not depending on the outcome of HTC repairing my Sensation I guess. I sure hope to find out tomorrow. I think if I was going to get a replacement now I would probably get the SGS3 over the OneX. I really don't like the non-removable battery and maybe worse, no SD slot. I know why they did it for economic reasons but I am just not going to go that direction. Batteries do not last forever and their maximum charge level goes down over time. I want to be able to plug the SD into my computer and do a local backup. I also want to be able to get a bigger or faster SD if one comes out.
I am used to Sense but I am sure I could get used to Touchwiz as well, and I just read in the portal that ROM Cleaner works with the SGS3 now, as long as I can rid of the bloat I am content. I am sure that when my contract is done in a year there will be something newer and better out anyways.
I hope it does aswell. These forums definitely have too many of those threads being created
I think I'd choose the S3 aswell to be honest. Even though the One X is a powerful phone, the S3 can quite easily out perform it, as it can with most phones.
The only time I'd be looking to upgrade is when mine become redundant, which with having an S2 (which can still keep up with the newest flagship devices) and Xperia S, I won't need to upgrade for a while I don't think.

The galaxy tab 2 10.1 is a pretty good tablet but it just seems a bit bland to me. Mainly because there wasn't much difference from the original galaxy tab 10.1.
The Nexus 7 is a little beast of a tablet though, so that could always be an option for you.
But if you wanna stay with Galaxy, then it's probably best to wait for the Note 2 like you said.

I have doubts that this will cut down on the many "which device should I buy" threads in this forum, but here's hoping! Ideally, this thread will be used for all such questions. If so, I may sticky it so anyone coming to Q&A looking for advice on which new device to buy will see it.

To buy Nexus 7 or wait for Microsoft Surface?
The question is really if the Surface will be cheaper than I bet it'll be (under 500)
Nexus 7 seems like awesome tablet, but I think it might be too small for me , but im not really sure, since I never owned a tablet, and where I live I cant go and see any 7 inch tablets in store.
So what you thnik, should I go for Nexus 7 or wait? Or better yet, is there more choices for cheap and quality android tablets?
7 inch tablets seem like an odd size to me. Not really big enough for the things I would use it for to replace a laptop, but too big to replace my phone.

You are totally right, but now to think other way: its easier to carry 7inch than 10inch tablet.
Also forgot to mention I have some problems with eyesight so bigger tablet might also be better choice, But the nexus 7 price really seems like a good selling point. But if the Surface RT will be 200, then I probably going to miss my money too much.

It depends on when you're going to be using it mainly. If you're out quite a lot of the time, then the Nexus 7 is probably going to be the easiest choice, because of carrying it around.
But if you're more often at home, then the Surface might be better for you because it's a 10.6 inch screen so it makes it easier for your eyes.
Another thing to consider is the operating systems. The Surface will be running Windows 8, but I'm not too sure what that's like to use.
And the Nexus is on Jellybean, it's definitely going to get the upgrade to Key Lime Pie and possibly the update after that aswell.
So, even though the Surface does seem like it'll be right up there with the best of them, I'd suggest the Nexus to be honest. It just seems like the best choice overall.

I might get the nexus 7, if I dont like it I could probably sell it here in Estonia for the money I would get it (from US.).
Also should be mentioned that I dont own a laptop or anything else to carry around, at home I use my desktop, and I dont go out too often, but I think nexus would be nice in school and so on.
Also all these old awesome titles (gta 3, max payne) are made for android these days which I really loved back then, are better to play on 7 inch than 10.6 (better to hold, easier) .
So I think i go for nexus 7, but I hope that I dont get the broken one (from first or second branch), because I couldnt take it back.
I will buy a tablet but I am not sure which. Note 10.1 or Nexus 7? I think nexus 7 is too small as a 4.7 inch phone user but not sure about it. But I want to have pure google experience. Is nexus 7 really that small or not? I'm stuck
I thought about bying the Xiaomi M2 or the Galaxy nexus and i cant pick it since the M2 has better hardware and it is smaller but only MIUI can be installed on him unlike the galaxy nexus which has a huge variety of roms.
In my opinion, a 7 inch tablet is the best for portability and viewing. It feels comfortable to hold with one hand, but it comes down to your personal preference really.

One of my friends asked me for suggestion...
His budget isn't all that big, with a max cap of 15000 inr (~275 usd, though the indian customs are notorious for high taxes; the s3 costs around 38000 inr = 690 usd; so hope you get the picture)
Mainly looking for a low budget android, maybe even a mid end device...
All he needs is "the latest android" on which he can play games...but I know about the quirks that come with a low end phone: inadequate internal mem, low cpu & gpu, lack of official upgrade support...the list kinda goes on...
I have zeroed on sony's live with walkman, mainly for the fact that it gives the most value for money...
The more the money saved + better features; the more likely choice it would be...
If anybody has better suggestions, please share them...
Brands present in india: Samsung, Htc, Sony, Micromax and smaller presence of Motorola and Huawei...
There is no contract system available here, neither are "subsidies" or such...

I think it depends on your budget.

My next phone is going to be the S3!! I wish Samsung would stop making the phone bigger though...when I first got the S2 I got made fun of because how big it is although it's very thin...I don't see what's the point of going bigger...

Buying the note a mistake?

I got my 16 gb wifi note a few days back. I had the option of choosing between the asus infinity and the note and I chose the note. I'm a student so I mainly use the note for education and gaming.
So here are my question:
1.)Should I have bought the asus tab instead as it has a better display or does it not make that much of a difference.
2.) In how many years do you think the note will be outdated. i.e. Not be able to run any of the high end games?
3.) Is the Note or the Infinity better for gaming?
Please telI me I made the right choice.
Thanks.

I am also a student and I absolutely love my note 10.1. If I want to watch media on a high end display, then I don't turn to my tablet. I can't tell you the Note 10.1 is amazing for gaming, watching movies, etc. I can tell you it's amazing for getting things done. The spen, and apps such as lecture notes, have completely changed my life. I spend hours taking notes, doping assignments, and pulling together material from sources and texts. All of that is faster and easier on the Note. I'm at the point where I don't know what I'd do without the S-pen. It's saved me countless hours of rewriting notes, scanning them, searching for previous work, and editing the notes/work I have done.
Look, if you just want to watch videos and play games, there are better options.
If you are trying to get work done, then you want the note.

I love my note 10.1. As far as playing games and stuff, it may be slow ghtly lower res than the infinity, but I can tell you that I still play shadow gun dead zone and GTA 3VC all the time. And quite a few other games. Great gfx. Everything set to max in game.

Yes you should wait in the PC Mobile Smartphone Tablet world their is always something new . But it is a constant redeveloping circle and the only decision you can make is based on when you want to buy and the price for a product that does what you want .

So waited but Didn't Buy The Newer Tablet Straight Away And When They Went To Get It Heard About Another Tablet That Was Due Out In A Few Months So Thought They'd Wait For That.
Here I Am Playing With My Lovely Note 10.1 And There They Are Still Waiting to Buy A Tablet.
If You Wait To Get The Best You'll Never Get Anything Because 6 Months Down The Track Something Supposedly Better Will Come Along. Be Happy With What You've Got If It Meets All That You Need When You Get It Or You'll Always Be Waiting...
I've seen the note as low as 300 usd so the price has dropped a lot. I bought mine for 550 and I still think it was worth it. If you can find one for that low I'd pick it up.

I made the wrong choice the first time around when I was in your position. Despite my initial feeling on the s-pen. I come to find it to be the greatest pointing device ive ever used. Im not an artist either. It provides mouse over function on the web and a degree of pointer precision that is to die for. Copy paste is a f'n breeze. Im also addicted to s-note.
But the real deal breaker for the asus was the ram. 2gb is what your going to want if your looking for extended usefull life. Some might disagree..but they are wrong...lol. plenty of speed tweaks eatup ram. Opera browser has some bad ass options that eat up ram but make the browser faster than any other ive used. So when you only got 1gb....you probably shy away from these options.
I didnt see the display difference. Sure I like how solid and cool the asus looks ans feels. Not a fan of the softer toyish artsy feel of the note 10.1. But IMO the note 10.1 is a better device with better longevity.

I've been using the note for a few days now. I currently have asphalt 7, real racing 3, gta 3 and dead trigger installed and I must say the gaming performance is pretty awesome! No lag at all on any of these games. The graphics are pretty good as well. So I think the gaming is as good as it's gonna get on Android. Yeah I think I made the right choice.!:thumbup:

It doesn't matter what you buy today, in 3 months, something better faster and cheaper will be out. The main thing is that you are using the device now instead of just thinking about it. The Note can definitely help more with your education, which is a lot more likely to affect what devices you can afford in a few more years. You made a good decision. Now quit playing games and do your schoolwork!

Get that new Note out and take notes on what this guy says!
Seriously though, if you want to game, get a gaming console. While the Note 10.1 runs most mobile games quite well, I really only see these games for filling time between class, killing time while traveling or procrastinating some homework, not extended play time.
The Note will change your life as a student. I am so much more organized than I ever thought I could be with the Note. Having all my course work with me all the time and even past courses makes it easy to find what I need when I need it.
The transition in is different, just embrace it! Once you start to really use the Note to your advantage you'll wonder what you ever did without it.

I'm a student, too. I own the Note for about a week and it's great. The resolution is big enough for any practical purpose and 2 gigs of RAM are definitely better than one. There is an annoying little problem with making hardware keyboards work properly, but it hopefully is solvable. I also fell in love with the SPen almost instantly. Actually, now it seems to me that a tablet without a stylus isn't even half as useful as it could have had been.

Thanks.

Ideas for a new phone

Hi, as the title says, I need an upgrade from our galaxy apollo. I have a budget of up to £180 so the nexus 4 is just out of reach. Any ideas? All input will be highly apreciated
Thanks

I would recommend you a phone made by sony (there are many different xperias for your budget). I think their quality are quite good for price you pay and they also have quite good developer support.
Im thinking about the xperia s or galaxy s2. Any other phone I should consider

I'd go for the most developer-friendly phone you can afford. Worth it. Take a look at the Galaxy S - I knew it is one of the oldest CM-supported phones, but I still choose it. All hardware working. Some say, it's a slow, aging 3-year old device. I say it's buttery smooth, million times faster than Galaxy 3 device, and that's it. Maybe there after some other phones it there faster than galaxy s, but this phone was cheap, awesome developer support, and for me still fast (with CM faster than my friend's stock S3 in some ways lol).
And I forgot... Don't forget that gyroscope No photosphere otherwise... Missing it a lot in Galaxy S lol

Yeah. I think ill get an s2 as it has a lot of developer support (codeworkx develops cm like on my tab) and I find my tab extremly smooth (even on stock samsung) and the s2 has the about the same specs as my tab so i may go with it. Thanks for helping me make up my mind. Hope the galaxy 3 comunity doesnt die though.
Scratch that. Nexus 4 is now 80 pounds cheaper. Nexus 4 here I come
