I don't believe the previous post reference is applicable since that guy is stock. I had this same issue plus the horrible battery drain when I went to 4.4, and every 4.4 rom I went to didn't change it. I must have tried every 4.4 out there, I like the feature set on 4.4 but not as much as the other. I just yesterday flashed back to slimbean 2.2 which is a 4.3 rom and all my issues disappeared. My tab now powers off and reboots into recovery properly now. And battery, I'm at 16.5 hours with 4 hours of screen time and still at 60%.

Hey so when I update my phone from a nightly from August to a nightly in September I keep on getting random force reboots. I managed to flash to the experimental M1 nightly and i'm stable there, but anything past that and I get force reboots (my phone randomly shuts off).
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Are you sure it is due to CM? I have the same issue with the stock Rom rooted.
Well it only happens on any nightly past the experimental M1.
Have you tried a clean flash? Or have you just been doing dirty flashes over and over?
Yeah, I tried a full wipe then install last night.. didn't get a force reboot for about an hour but then after that it went back to "normal" and happened like every five minutes.
Thank God i made my back before I installed cm10 i had and still have the same issue, so i went back to stock+root if anyone know the fix post it thanks

Same here I had tested e different rom and mostly reliable I found was DarthStaker v7. But looks like samsung did something with the new s3 hardware because before my phone replacement my first s3 was smooth as a butter with any rom but now is a pita toget it shorted out with new rom. Stock+root works way better that any rom.

I've had my phone up and running on AOKP Milestone 1 and a custom kernel (can't remember the name now) for a few months now. I decided to replace the kernel with Lean Kernel since my phone's been crashing recently, and it was mentioned that the kernel could be the problem (this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1842971&page=135).
After installing the kernel and wiping the cache/Dalvik cache, my phone rebooted but would not let me past the lockscreen. I then pulled the battery and attempted to reboot into recovery, but now my phone won't turn on at all. I'm currently charging my phone but no light is coming on, so kinda worried.
Any advice/solutions would be appreciated!
EDIT: I should also mention that if I pull the battery and put it back in, I get a "battery charging" symbol on the screen for a few seconds.
Download mode?

Did you install the proper LeanKernel? If you are on AOKP milestone 1 that is 4.1 based. The newest LeanKernel is 4.2 based. Could be the problem. There are also distinctions between AOSP and TouchWiz kernels. Do you know which version you flashed?
Regardless, if you can get into download mode like hank said, you should be ok.
Can't Boot into recovery with three button method?
Tried getting into download mode?
Well I feel dumb but after some searching around, people recommended just blowing on the battery contacts. This solved it, so case closed! Thanks for all of the advice though.
And yes, the lean kernel was for TouchWiz roms, which got me into this mess in the first place.
I've got an i727R
It was rooted with TWRP and CyanogenMod 10.1.3 and it was fine.
This afternoon I noticed the battery dropping, rapidly. then it went off and could come back on.
I can't boot it with or without the battery, with or without the usb in (I suspect the battery is totally flat).
Prior to going crazy I:
- enabled encryption a couple of days ago
- noticed intagram had consumed 35% battery (i subsequently uninstalled instagram to try and stop the drain
When I plug the usb in it buzzes about once every two seconds

Thanks. I noticed after I posted but couldn't delete (or find?) my post.
Good news, I was able to get it into download mode eventually. Once I was there I was good.
I re-flashed to stock with Odin; reformatted with default recovery to strip encryption; Odin'd it again; installed TWRP; finally CM 10.2.
It still seems to be having battery-drain issues, which I am investigating.

Try a new or battery that has worked fine for you. also, clean flash your phone on a stock ROM and don't install any apps for a hour or so. See if the drain still exist. Best way to test it out!
Hit thanks if that helped!
Since I cannot yet post in the development section, I'll hope to have some response here. Upon installing the unofficial CM11 mod in combination with pink kernel, I came across a stubborn bug: the battery indicator is invariably stuck at 1%.
A clean reflash (even /system format) did not help. I flashed back the stock ROM, wiped everything and reflashed the CM11 with no difference so far.
Has anybody got an explanation/bug fix? Thanks in advance..

I had this same issue even in stock ROM... just let the battery drain completely til the phone switches off and then charge the phone and boot... it worked for me... :fingers-crossed:
I had this happen to me on stock as well the first day I owned the phone. Left it on the charger all night and on less than ten minutes of use the battery showed 1%. Charged back to full and haven't seen it again. I think server people have experienced this bug.

find the battery apps in apps setting then try clear the cache. once happen to my old s2's cm11.
I clicked on the Kernel tab, and tried the franco.Kernel, and simply get stuck in bootloop, I look at the tags and it seems like most of the kernels only support the old KitKat..?
In addition, it seems the kernel scenes is a bit haywire now with AOSP/CAF...?
Could someone gimme one or two kernel suggestion that works with rooted OOB 5.0.1? I am just trying to quickly fix my sister's N5 here... she got nothing but nightmare after upgrading from 4.4.4 to 5.0, constant reboot, crash, battery drain... so i just now wiped the whole thing and flashed a fresh 5.0.1
Any help/suggestion on kernel would be appreciated. <3
Update:
Tried Elemental X, the phone reboots randomly now... And also just googled problem with Nexus 5... it seems like 5.0 and 5.0.1 have TONS of random reboot issues...? Goddamn it Google...
Do any of you have a stable ROM (stock or custom) that doesn't have random reboot issues?
Elementalx

Sorry to hear that. Could it possibly be a hardware issue since you say it's happening to you across all software? Corrupted storage media could cause random reboots such as that.
I'm not seeing any myself, though I do reboot the phone about once a week just as a precautionary measure with L's RAM management.
Was having this issue with Stock and Custom ROMS ended up going back to KITKAT and no problems. Hopefully they will have this fixed with 5.1 that will be released soon.
Stock one is allways the best choise. You must be aware, that the stock one is build by a lot of good developers and custom ones are made by individual enthusiasts. There is nothing wrong with that, but the pure logic here speaks by itself.
Used a lot of different roms
ordered my nexus on release day, used quite a few different roms and i've never had a random reboot.
