Hi everyone,
A friend of mine just got a Palm pre plus. Nice phone, not bad at all. I still prefer my Nexus but one tool really did caught my eye on the Palm.
The multitasking ability is wonderfull on the Pre. the ability to view small windows of every tasks you are running, moving left of right to switch and up to close/kill an app is just plain awesome.
I know jailbroken Iphone can download a similar app through cydia. So if the Iphone can do it, Why can't I find anything alike for Android?
That would be a great app that for sure many would download as it is just nice looking.
thanks a lot for reading.

You can simply long press the home button. It's not all your running tasks, just your six most recently executed applications. It's not nearly as cool of an interface as the Palm Pre may have, but it effectively does the same thing. For killing processes I recommend Advanced Task Manager.
I'm sure we'll have a similar interface on stock Android in future releases. 2.5 perhaps?
@mhaedo:
Thanks for the tip! I tried it and it aint bad.
I already had Commantalb and ES task manager.
Both of them and this trick do partly what I ask (and other too.)
Check out the proswitcher on youtube. I'm sure it ain't too hard to have an app running in the back that shows up like commantab show you the windows let you kill them with a vertical slide, etc.
If I wait for this to happen on android 3.1 I may as well buy an Iphone (oh dear no way!)...
Proswitcher looks fantastic.
Now that we have a phone with some decent power, I'd love to see a graphical task switching app with thumbnails and gestures like this!

Having used the two multitasking solutions available on cydia (multifl0w and kirkae) I can report that they are buggy at best. In theory it works well but in practice, I often had apps crash when backgrounded (pandora was a fine example of this). The phone was not meant for it and could barely support it.
Using backgrounder alone with pandora worked well most of the time but even then pandora would close.
Personally, I have no real compelling interest in a pre-esque multitasking ability on the n1 but if someone came out with one, I would definitely try it out for no other reason than "why not".
coming from a 3gs and having used mquickdo and kirikae, I also would like to see how the n1 would handle task switching.
yep, backgrounding + task switching via card view on the iphone (specially through kirikae) was nice to have and would like to see how a similar solution would operate on the n1 - which supports unfettered multitasking out of the box.
aside from task switching, i would really like to have a nice way to invoke favorite, instead of recently used apps.
You're gonna end up with like....8 million cards when you want to switch.

if you want to use a set of favourites, why not just make the "home" desktop where you keep your favourites? Seems to satisfy that ask, no?

You can create a folder on your home screen, name it favorites, then dump shortcuts of all your favorite, top 5 or top 10 apps in there.
legitimate suggestions and really i'm in no way being critical about current support for folders or shortcuts. pre like task switching or swipe-to-invoke features would be cool - but not necessary. bottom line - my n1 runs circles around my 3gs - without jbreaking.

I have to disagree with you on this Sir. proswitcher and Multiflow are both apps made by some user to compensate a HUGE lack in the Iphone. They are comparable to Cyanogen making multitouch on the Nexus (on the video it was shaky and unprecise at best). Besides, they can hardly work well because of the phone's design (solo tasking).
Now you've got the Nexus: Lots of power, and able to multitask. So with such a device I don't think it would be SOOOOO complicated to actually make a switching feature like it exists with great success on the Palm PRE.
I had to spend quite a long while the first time on my wife's Iphone just to get Proswitcher (unlock/root/blackstuff/cydia/backgrounder/proswitcher/settings) to get this important app: because quite frankly, yes it's buggy but it's awesome to be ABLE to do more than 1 thing at the same time like looking for apps and installing apps for example... My Pal who's got the PRE now has this feature built it. His PRE is nice, no offense, but the Nexus kills it. This feature would be one of the only thing I'm really jealous about.
lol from the dev of ProSwitcher when asked about making a similar app for Android.

proswitcher is sooo cool its almost sickening! our n1's can run x2 amount of apps as the iphone and yet we only get to switch between the most recent 6?! thats weak! i bet if we keep this thread alive (and on topic) we can see some development. lets see what dev is up to the challenge. i would definitely pay for something like this!

N1 can run not just x2 amount of apps as the iphone. More, way more...prob more near 10? 20? obviously depending on the app itself.

We are able to switch between any open apps by loading up the app again from either the drawer or any shortcuts you've made. I understand you may mean by touch holding the home button but tbh its far far easier to press home once and nav to your app, and having it open instantly. Rather than sifting through pages to find it.

I was basing it solely on the fact that our N1's have twice as much RAM as the iPhone, 512 vs 256 respectively. Of course it depends on size of the app but it wasnt meant to be scrutinized over.

Yes I do mean by holding the home button, but I find it more work to have to open the app drawer and sift through my 100 apps, though alphabetical, can be cumbersome. To each his own though.
Still would love to see a more effective and efficient method of switching between apps than the obvious (placing shortcuts on the desktop), sifting through app cards is cooler than sifting through the app drawer. Perhaps if the cards were limited to a certain number so it doesnt get out of hand. Who knows!
So far, I love almost everything about Mango. But there's one thing that's pissing me off. It used to be that you could start a download and just keep right on browsing. I found this VASTLY superior to the experience of the marketplace on iPhone, where you choose an app to install and it dumps out of the market.
Unfortunately, the new Marketplace on WP7 does exactly what the iPhone app store does now, and it sucks. SUCKS! Is there any way to revert it to the old behavior? Of all the features to parrot from iOS, this was the worst!
I think there's no way to revert the old function in Mango. But I think you just have to hit "back" one time to go back to the market? I will try it
Edit: Hitting "back" one time works fine for me In my opinion it's not really annoying.
Yes, back button is a quick workaround. I was annoyed also, but as I don't install a lot of apps at once, this is only annoying at the first configuration.
iOS has back button?
It annoys me a lot more the dissapear of the "tabs" button in the web browser than this.
Just hit the back arrow, it's not that big of a deal.
I'm not sure if iOS / iPhone has got a back button
Wait?! On NoDo there was a button for the "tabs", right? And now we have to slide up the menu and click on it. Am I right?
No, of course no iOS devices have a back button, that's common knowledge. This IS a big deal though, when you factor in that Zune STILL can't simply backup your apps for easy reinstall, making it a giant hassle to get all your apps back. Now it's made worse because you have to back straight up again. Still not as bad as iOS, but definitely a step in the WRONG direction.
I agree about the tabs in IE; the new way to get to them is lame.
I must say I don't tend to install 10 apps at a time, so pressing back if i need to add a second one is not an issue at all.
In other words I think this is a step in the right direction
Personal choice I guess ... but imho nothing to start an entire thread on ..

If you install your app via Zune, it'll automaically installed when you reflashed / hard reset your phone.
Nope, not a single app I'd installed from Zune automatically reinstalled. On top of that, if you *didn't* install it from Zune to begin with, you can't install it from Zune at all--EVER. It's locked out. No choice but to do it from the phone ad infinitum.
So far I'm loving 95% of Mango, but it's not without its missteps, unfortunately. I agree it's not usually a HUGE deal to have to press the back button, but it's still a step in the wrong direction. Android marketplace has it right, and Windows Phone marketplace used to.
There's another thing which is absolutely broken. You can't reinstall anything from Zune. If you try, it will tell you it's already installed and the install button is greyed out.
People have different tastes, I get it. You might say the back button is a big plus in usability compared to ios.
But I think on ios they rarely screw this kind of functionality.
maybe they haven't update their zune or marketplace according to mango.
I read an article from Microsoft about this before, if i recall correctly, the reason why it dumps you to the application list is to show you where you can find your app once it was installed.
People were not aware of where their app was located once they hit install in the Marketplace. You hit install, the progress bar appears, and then once its done, the app simply disappears with no indication as to where it went. People were confused by this behavior. By visually showing people that their app was being installed into the application list, they now know exactly where to find their app, and they can also launch the app once it is done installing/downloading. Same thing with games, people were not finding the game they installed, so now it shows you that its in the Games hub.
In my opinion, this method is more intuitive. An option to disable it would be nice, because I know where my apps are going, but I think for most people, this method makes more sense and is more fluid.
The upside is that you can simply press back to get back to the marketplace. Another positive is the fact that you can now launch your app immediately as it finishes, instead of having to back out all the way start screen, then swiping to the right. I'm sure most people install apps one at a time, rather than a whole bunch at once, so in the long run, this method makes much more sense.

The back button is a HUGE deal and makes an incredible difference over any iDevice. I'm all about different tastes, of course. I completely agree that the Zune software's ability to reinstall apps is completely, totally, 100% BROKEN. However, that's not an iOS advantage, that's an iTunes advantage (and let's face it, iTunes has so few of them, LOL) and I'd never go back to the crapware that is iOS now that I've enjoyed WP7 and especially Mango.
But that said, yes, there is still work to be done. I'd hoped mango would fix everything, but alas it's failed to do so. I must give it credit, though--it fixes *almost* everything

I get where you're going, but I humbly disagree. it would be better to prompt the user once an app finishes installing: "Would you like to see where we've installed your app?" Let's face it: if you can't figure out that your app is in the *alphabetical list* of APPS, maybe you shouldn't be using a smartphone at all

Well now that is a more annoying solution. That last thing I want is another prompt asking me another question. The old way or the new way is much better than having to go through another prompt. That breaks the fluid flow of the app installation process. The less prompts, the better.
Not to mention, the new method feels more complete. Like a full circle. Find an app -> choose to install it -> see download/installation progress and where its located -> launch and go.
Though I do agree that if you can't find where your apps are to begin with, you've got some issues there, but one of the points of Windows Phone 7 was to be a friendlier and more intuitive phone, and this only reinforces that thinking.

A prompt will be completelly awful, the current behaviour is very intuitive for all users, but Microsoft usually add things for power users like a lot of key combinations and stuff, so I feel that in this case they are missing like a "Install in background" option if you hold your finger over the install button, or the application, or in a menu.
Also about the tab switch in IE, I also feel that a 2 finger swipe is REQUIRED to switch tabs. WP7 barely uses finger gestures, and in this case flip a tab is a 3-step action...

This actually makes sense. I did have this exact problem in NoDo, where I wasn't sure if an app had downloaded, or where it could be located. Dumping the user into the application list is not a problem when the system has a "back" button.
two finger swiping to change tabs would be awesome. Even pinch zooming right out like with the pictures.

Maybe for you as you had an iDevice before. But why should I know this? I don't care about iDevices
The methods mentioned in this thread sound great I'd like to be asked whether to use a "tabs" button or the "two finger swipe". An option in the settings would be perfect.
And I also like how an app is installed
But the best solutions are to provide options so that the user can choose his favourite way
I don't know what idiot made the decision to make the right trackpad button to work as "back" but he needs to be fired from his job. The transformer already has atleast 2 back buttons, and probably a few shortcuts for back that I don't know about. Why make the right mouse button also "back"?
The transformer would be a full laptop replacement, if I had a right mouse button like every other computer I've ever owned in my entire life. Do I need to write a letter to my congressman or something to make this happen? Hell, I'd be willing to learn to solder and rewire the keyboard just to make it work (not really, once I learn to solder I'll be moding my electric motorcycle, but that's not the point). Honestly, if someone makes an app to fix this, I will buy it, then send a nice letter to google/asus telling them to offer that person a job for being smarter than one of their current employees.
lol i completely agree. It would be great if the right click was the equvalent of a press and hold. would make everything so much easier

Don't know if its possible to change that. Kinda unfortunate
seems like every app has a different "hold" duration and not all apps have this feature
so implementation would be inconsistent
Could you exagerate or be any more of an asshole at all? Merely because you do not understand why it was made as a back button instead of *whatever you want it to be* does not give you the right to sit there and type a two paragraph rant about how ASUS is full of idiots. Talk about self-entitlement and impatiance.
It does not function as a "right click" (I don't know how the hell it could) because Android doesn't have a right click. It simply doesn't exist. A longpress is a lot different from a right click, and it isn't possibly/trivial to just map the right click button to be a long press.
hmm... I wonder if it would be possible for 2x or other RDP/vnc clients to "capture" the right-click on the pad and send it as a right-mouse button to windows/linux/etc that actually does make use...
That would be nice rather than me hunting for where the options in windows are without right-click..

Personally, I like the right button being back button! In Andoid, you use the back button alot. If using the trackpad, it makes perfect sense to have teh right button be a back button - otherwise you'd be reaching up all of the time to press the on-screen or on-keyboard back button.
At least that my opinon! Same if using an external mouse... I use the right button constantly.

Far more configurations would be great here.
Under the keyboard/input settings where the mouse control is, and the keyboard 'do I want auto capitalisation', having an advanced button that takes you to;
Top Row AndroidControl|Function Keys
Back Button Back|Escape
Right Mouse Back|RightHold
And allow you to select the functionality/remap, without having to mess about with root, would be /really/ useful. We can change the cursor to a pointer/gestures, but can't remap the right click?
And as an aside, I can't find through googling, but does anyone know what the 1 and 6 numbers are highlighted?

Well I have Remote RDP Enterprise, And in each computer settings, you can change the screen resolution (1280x750) or try fit device (at bottom). Not sure if RDP lite has it. Fits my screen perfect.
Long answer: Seeing how the Transformer is the only tablet with a keyboard dock that has a trackpad, the answer is no. Issue is too small for Google to address it and it would only effect 1 device. Asus probably won't do it either since they didn't intend for the Transformer to run different OS's, such as Ubuntu where a right click would be necessary.
Simple and sweet answer: No, if you don't like it, buy a laptop
EDIT: After reading your original post again, you're the idiot. Why would a touch screen operation system need a right click? Android's right click is the long press. Asus decided to make a nice keyboard dock but like I said earlier, it was made for Android, not Ubuntu/Windows/etc.
FTR if you actually use a mouse plugged into the dock the middle mouse button is the Menu key. I agree with the back button being the right click. I use primary (left click), back and menu keys a lot more than I use long press [even without a mouse]
I may be an idiot, but i use "long press" often enough that it would be exceptionally useful to have a button on the trackpad that has the same function. Far more useful than another back button. Also when useing the trackpad/mouse, "long click" is really slow. Having an equivalent "right click" button would also make Android a more competitive operating system. Instead of having a laptop and a tablet, i can have tablet that transforms into a laptop. I'm pretty sure that was Asus's original idea, hence the name "transformer." Also, It's intuitive, a right button brings up additional options, like "back." It's how it works on every other computer.
actually, the right click button is always a back button in android. I have run android in an emulator before and right click was the back button (this was an eclair build as well). I think it's been in there for so long that it would be harder to fix than you would think. And, as mentioned before, the long press on items is inconsistent in different apps. Sure, it would be usefull for newbies to the transformer (my sister wanted to try it out and told me that the browser kept going back a page whenever she wanted to right click on a link to open it in another tab) but I am personally used to it when using an external mouse

Very Nice! Thanks for pointing out Remote RDP lite. I also manually typed in a resolution of 1280x753 and it fits the transformer screen perfectly.
In addition to using the right-click as a right-click on the windows RDP, it also tracks your mouse cursor as you move it, not just when you click, so mouse-overs Work!!! Very Nice!

The Transformer isn't every other computer now is it? Stop looking at it as a laptop replacement, that's not what it's meant for. Tablets are extensions of your phone.
Yes it's called the Transformer because of the dock, but it transforms into an ANDROID laptop, not another OS. You really think Asus is gonna spend time hardcoding a right click into a OS that is pretty much based around the long press?
Having a right click button doesn't make Android any more competitive than it already is. You really think someone is going to say "Oh this has a right click but that has a nice flashly OS and it's made by Apple!!!" If you really think a right click is going to be a deciding factor for purchasing a tablet, you are just ....

Watch as apple comes out with a dock for their tablet saying "It's magic!! When I plug in the dock it becomes a computer complete with right mouse button support."
You show me a tablet with dock that will function just like a netbook/laptop and doesn't have Windows or Apple on it, and I'll definitely give it a try. If it works well, I'll buy it.
The transformer is the number one selling Android tablet right now, and I'm pretty sure it's not because of the tablet. It's probably because of the full keyboard with track pad. I take that as a pretty clear sign that people are expecting more than just an extension of their phone. They are looking for a tablet that can do more.
Tablet's are now competing with netbooks, and soon with laptops. There are plenty of threads here about people wanting to use their transformer for school, business, and work. To do these things require functionality. Functionality requires input options that are easy to use. Currently, for anything other movies, music and games, the transformer is a bit of a pain to use. Even browsing the internet isn't that great. Sure it can do these things, but not gracefully.
Google needs to step up their game. If they didn't plan to compete with laptops/netbooks, then I'm wrong. But I have a feeling this Android thing is going to go way past phones and extensions of phones, and Google was planning that. These recent updates of adding support for multiple SD cards and screen scaling after the hardware comes out is crap. Think ahead Goggle, and build your OS for the hardware that will come out next year, not what was released last month.
Don't defend Google because it's difficult to change their software. Challenge them to make the difficult changes now, so that when we buy new hardware next year, we don't have to wait for updates to make it functional and user friendly.
I think Asus or someone else from their company said that when google android 4.0 comes out they will port it to the tf and of course their future tablets.. so i hope android 4.0 will bring the big changes we expect..
I didn't know that it would've been an issue of the inability of an OS, I'm using a Prime and there is a thread in the forums that gives the ability to remap each individual keys of the dock. So I had a thought that wouldn't it be possible to map the right click button to the command 'bring up context menu' just like how long pressing brings up the context menu
I have a question, why is it that the only way to return to an app suspended state is via the multitasking card view? I mean, it should be like ios that whenever an app is in memory, if you open that app i will take you to the saved state.
Currently if i exit an app via the windows key, then try to reopen said app from the app list it will open like it was the first time...

Yes,this is a design inconsistency.I have mentioned in another thread...if you use windows button to exit an app, then the next time you open it,you will need to relaunh the app again. Unless, you long pres back button in order to let the app go into multitask mode. Then you only press windows button. If not, the system won't memorize the app. Windows button is simply cancel everything off.
This situation same goes to the live tiles, if you use windows button to exit an app,the live tiles will never update. However, if you use back button, the live tiles will be updated, you can try this by using network dashboard or any live tiles apps.
Please fix the Windows/home button command and functionality,it is just a shame....
To me it seems like the multi-task is more of a recent memory than a multi-task. For example, if i'm in a game of angry birds, regardless of what way i use to get back to the home page, when I get back into the game via the multi-task menu.. it relaunches the app and puts me at the home page.
what gives?

I have no idea with angry birds, but other games yes...even if you long press the back button,it will just relaunch the game, maybe they haven't update the app to mango compatible.
However, IMHO, Microsoft really have to fix the windows/home button command ot functionality,to make it adapt to the fast app switching,multitask/resume and the live tiles.
Yes... Angry birds has not been updated...
And it just seems weird to me that an app thats saved in memory have to start again... I would think its not that hard to fix this....
Ok.. update on my own thoughts. Maybe I'm thinking of something different than you guys, but here's what I found.
I remembered the game 'Penguins' updated right after mango. I tried this out with that game. In the middle of a game, I can pause, hit the windows button, do whatever I want on the phone, then using the multitask menu go back into the game, and I'm back in the game at the pause screen. Alternatively, I can hit the windows button without even pausing it, and I can later resume the game. It appears there's no issue with the software, it's just a matter of how the programmers write the apps. Again, I could be missing the idea here, but I think this is what you guys were talking about
I find holding the back button to he much more efficient than going to the home screen into a grid of icons to find and launch the app again. another ridiculous multitasking complaint brought to u by yours truly.

Whats wrong with you, buddy? please edit your post, ridiculous complaint???OP never complaints about anything,it is clearly a question and a discussion here.
Furthermore,in regard to the ways you provided is not a good way in some manners. For example, if I'm checking my tweets and then i press home button and go out, make some calls texts and calendar. Then,i think it better for me to go back the app by access it from the app list or tiles. Therefore, back button is simply useless in this case.
You shouldn't be surprised. That's just eric12341 using a fake name to try to sneak around his account suspension.

check tweets from the Me tile, it's really fast. its impossible for an app to remember the last state it was in unless u have a bg agent. its not that hard to use the back button. first people complain /criticize for no multitasking now there's complain/criticize over how its implemented. get a grip.
I agree with the OP. It sucks so bad. I'm no troll, but it takes me much longer to hold the back button and find the instance instead just press windows and first tile.
I'm not even mentioning the problems I'm having with my keyboard auto hiding while i'm typing, and the problem with auto correction in third party apps. Whenever I have an special character, it doesnt overwrite the whole word to correct it. "blahblaƧ" turns into "blahblaƧblahblah". Genious.
Oh, and yeah, you cant use toast notifications! If you use it to redirect to your whatsapp message, it will reload the whole app instead resuming it.
Whats the point of implementing multitasking and turning it so ****ing difficult to use?
Whatsapp toast notification reloading the whole app is true. And it makes no sense to me.
BTW i love wp7, so im not hating at all... Its just that this problem seems soo easy to fix, its just silly.

Guess we are alone with this. No one seems to care about how MS implemented it. As long they can use it somehow.
I was thinking about removing the hole bixby crap and use the Bixby button to do something else ? what do you think ?
Good ideea! How?
It's entirely up to you. Everybody will have a different opinion and there will be plenty of people that will enjoy using Bixby. I'll probably use it sometimes.
Everybody has different needs. I for example, don't use my phone to purchase anything and I don't have a need for Samsung Pay or Android Pay. Never will and I'll never understand the point of it. That's useless bloatware for me. It's much quicker and easier to use my contactless debit card.
You'll have to decide if it's useful or not to you.

Yup my thoughts exactly, ditch the crap and make use of the button for something that might actually be useful, although I am not yet sure what (if the virtual home button irritates me then perhaps use it as a home button, or maybe a recent apps button). Don't know if you can do that without a custom rom, I suspect not as Samsung probably wants to force it on people.

that the spirit we will probably find a good use out of it.
Its just samsung take on google. It will probably just be more straight forward. It does the same thing..google translate uses the camera to live translate words.
You can google voice to set alarms etc...
I might use it might not its stuff phones have been doing for a while.
Sounds good

Google Assistant is already useful, bixby is just another waste of space imo
I just want to delete bixby and I don't even own one yet

I'm sure it will be pretty useless for most of us, but I can see the thinking behind it. It'll be interesting to see if they improve it as time goes on.
Bixby can suck it! I'm going to deactivate that bloat asap.
It seems like voice assistance is being marketed as the future. Personally I don't see myself using it. I'm also wondering how many people actually use Google Assistant and Siri.
Edit: Rereading that last sentence, it seems like I'm questioning the numbers, but I really am interested to know how many people actually use it and for more complex things than checking the weather or asking funny questions.
Yeah I dont see it as a feature I would use. But my understanding is you cant remap the Bixby key to anything.
The main thing for me is the cards part of bixby. That's what actually launches when you press the button. I can put weather, reminders, calenders all right there so I can see it at a moment's notice. That way I don't have to put home screen widgets or ongoing notifications for those.
I think they want to make bixy like from iron man, where he talks to his ai, who is now an avenger. If bixy learns like they say i think itll be cool. Like bixy watch and learn me doing this, learning....then it can do what ever i show it

I honestly didn't think I would use Google Assistant as much however was I wrong.... I'll try to explain how it's useful on the pixel.
1st... The assistant kind of works in the background through other apps like photos, I was rotating some old downloaded photos because they were sideways however I didn't finish, next day when I first went in my photos the assistant randomly notified me of all the pics that were sideways and asked did I want it to rotate them which I clicked yes. Also the google cards bring news, sports, stock etc based off things you normally search like if I've been googling Samsung S8, I will start to see news, info regarding the S8 each day on my daily feed/ cards (Hard to explain but it's very convenient because it will show whatever you've been interested in such as new games, cars you've look at etc).
2nd... There's actually using the assistant voice features which are absurdly accurate even when I misstate a word. The assistant learns who people are so I don't always have to say names instead I can say call my cousin, mom, wife etc at home, on speaker phone. I can also say go to bestbuy.com or any other website. Set my alarm for 10am, add bananas to my grocery list, remind me to take out the trash when I get home, play a specific song on YouTube or in music player. All of this is not only accurate but considerable faster than doing it manually. In addition you don't need a physical button to activate the assistant, you just say "ok Google" and it knows your voice even if your phone was locked so it's truly hands free. As I'm getting ready for work I ask "how is the traffic to work". A few minutes ago I was just streaming a movie from my phone to my tv and got up to get my clothes out the washer so I told the assistant to pause video, then resume when I sat back down.
3rd.... I honestly felt Bixby functioned a little slow in relation to Google Assistant/ Siri however it's still kind of beta until the phone is released. I can see where Samsung's is trying to bridge the gap while also trying to get their foot in the door but only time will tell if it will flop or stand however I can definitely see voice assistants becoming a bigger footprint in all phones.

I thought I wouldn't use it either but I'm warming up to it - primarily for replying to text's while driving, getting directions, finding restaurants, etc. Pretty handy in that respect and for me, it's more accurate than my typing on the screen keypad, which I find horrible to use (Samsung's keyboard).
But the point is google now/ assistant does this already. This video below is a perfect response to bixby.
By the way, you can disable bixby and you can reasssign google now or google assistant (or any other app you want) to the bixby button.

Totally Agree, there was no point in Samsung spending time & resources on something that already exists and has since 2012 i believe.
But great that it can be remapped as now that button becomes useful.......[emoji3]

Unfortunately from the hands on videos I've seen, you can't remap the button. Not sure if you would even be able to disable it in software without root.
Remap Bixby Button!
Use "All In One Gestures" App to remap the Bixby Button. Search YouTube!
