Freezing/bootloop even after stock RUU - HTC Sensation

Hello,
I'm running out of ideas to solve my problem with my Sensation, maybe you can help. I was on my beloved ViperS5 ROM and it crashed while browsing due to memory overload or something. After several boot attempts and removing the battery I managed at least to get into bootloader/recovery (ended up with a black screen or freeze 8/10 times). Reinstalled the ROM and it kept crashing at the configuration screen, resulting in a boot loop. So I tried a few other ROM's, exactly the same results.
My last hope was going back to stock using RUU, same problem at the configuration screen, but I managed to boot after few reboots. The phone still crashes after few minutes, when I try to start any app, resulting in a boot loop/black screen/HTC logo freeze. (tried to remove the SD card, it didn't help)
Any ideas how to fix this?

did you leave the device switched off for a long time?
if not do it and then try to switch it on
probably it is still overheated when you are trying to boot it
leave it for 10-15 minutes
best wishes

Maybe it's really damaged from overheat, cause it even crashed in recovery once, so I guess I'm ****ed. I will try to leave it switched off for a few hours, but I doubt it will help. Thanks so far.

Now I get random crashes even in recovery (4EXT, also tried TWRP), I managed to install some custom ROM's, but can't even boot properly after flashing (keeps freezing or restarting in the boot process). My Sensation is JuopunutBear S-OFF, had no problems with flashing ROM's before that. So I guess it is a hardware failure.

If memory serves correctly you should be able to get a logcat from the phone while its in recovery. it might shed come light on what is producing the failures, but its definitely sounding like a hardware failure. Were you overclocked?

How do I get a logcat?
I'm able to stay in recovery for enough time to wipe data, then it randomly crashes or when I try to flash a rom (-> black screen, remove battery to get it back on).
I couldn't even install stock RUU at the first attempt - freezing the whole installation process. No overclocking, also tried the original battery (bought a new one), with/without sdcard/sim -> still crashing.
Edit: Ok, there's a guide for logcat on xda. I will post results after work as soon as I get back home .

How is your sensation going on?

[Q] Stock w/ root question.

I got the device two days ago and rooted it the night I got it but remained stock to get use to it a little (came from MT4G) and still not use to the lack of physical menu buttons.
Anyways, after rooting and going through the process CWM, SU, ect. everything looked good for a while but today I had two random reboots from locked screen (went to unlock the device and it rebooted, the same way both times but not full reboots they were short and quick) and I was wondering if anyone else had this same issue and if so how to correct it.
There was another thing, when I boot into recovery it loads fine but when I reboot back to ROM it says there was an improper boot and wanted to send crash log to HTC. Not sure if this is going to be the normal thing but if anyone else is having this every time they go into recovery is there a way to opt out of it by default?
Thanks for reading.....

If you boot into recovery or hard reset by holding the power button. It will always ask to send crash report
OK cool so it's normal, thanks for the information.

Bricked device?

Hi!
Here is what happened to my One S (S4 version, about 6 months old). I unlocked the bootloader when i got the phone, installed cwm, afterwards twrp (2.3.1) and was running several sense and non-sense roms without any issues. Till last week:
I installed "BAKED Black Bean" in twrp and was using it for a few days without issues. One night i wanted to turn on the flashlight to search for something on the floor, and BAM: phone restarted and got stuck in a bootloop. I tried to enter recovery, but still bootlooping. Reflashing twrp or cwm did not work either. Still couldn't enter recovery. Then i managed to enter twrp again by erasing the cache in fastboot (fastboot erase cache) but now external storage was unmountable.
Here is what i tried to recover the phone:
* relocked bootloader
* ran RUU (RUU_Ville_U_Vodafone_AT_1.78.169.2_Radio_0.16.31501S.17_2_10.23.31501S.10L_release_258382_signed.exe)
* cleared storage in hboot (this fixed the unmountable external storage)
* factory reset in hboot
Now the phone booted fine, external storage was working. BUT since then the phone is behaving strange. After a few hours it responds very laggish when i press the power button (takes up to 5 seconds for the screen to turn on, touch screen is irresponsive for a couple of seconds) and occasionally it reboots when i press the power button and is stuck in bootloop again. I already ran the RUU again, but still the same issues.
I'd really appreciate any ideas regarding this.
Hi, if you can, I'd try to start a logcat, then attempt to recreate the issue while it is running. Then post the logcat, and we might be able to see what's causing the sluggishness and random reboots.
Sent from my HTC One S using Tapatalk 2
thanks, i will post a logcat as soon as possible.
another thing i found out: when the phone is plugged in (charger or computer) it switches on normally. just when unplugged it's making troubles.
oh, and just to mention: i did not install anything on the phone. just the ruu, no apps nothing. just did the initial setup. so any 3rd party apps causing the problem can be ruled out.
sounds like you did a lot correctly
Are you wiping system as part of your wipes
You could try reformatting sdcard also
Get a nandroid and sdcard bu if opportunity presents itself
more issues:
- when opening the camera app, it takes 7-10 seconds until the picture shows up
- screen rotation is not working. when i try to calibrate the g-sensors they are not reacting at all
i think i will try my luck with warranty repair. what are my chances with an unlocked bootlader?

Have you done a logcat yet? You can try warranty, yes.

[Q] Memory leak or something else?

So this issue has persisted throughout wiping data/factory resetting. I'm really not sure what this is.
Basically what happens is that my phone will gradually get slower and slower until it freezes and then reboots. However, after it reboots, it will go into a boot loop. What I will then need to do is basically wait it out by shutting it off. Then, I wait for an hour (maybe more) before I try turning it back on again, at which point it returns to normal.
Any idea? I thought it might be a memory leak? But how would that affect rebooting? I'd like to also mention that at one point my recovery somehow disappeared as well. I managed to re-flash TWRP using Flashify, but I haven't dared going back into the recovery, because last time when I had lost my recovery, I ended up thinking that I had to wipe my phone completely (because even Download Mode wasn't working correctly).
By the way, I'm running an AT&T LG G2 d800, on the "d80010q" firmware 4.2.2. I'm rooted, with Xposed modules running, as well as the camera mod flashed. No other modifications have been made except for buildprop and systctl (kernel) changes through android tuner.

[Update 4/3: Logs] N5 works normally -> stuck on splash screen -> have to reflash ROM

[Update 4/3: Logs] N5 works normally -> stuck on splash screen -> have to reflash ROM
My Nexus 5 is having a problem that is just confusing the hell out of me.
To summarize the issue...
1. Phone will get stuck on "Google" splash screen (written in white) on bootup.
-at this point, I can reach bootloader and recovery
-clear cache/format cache does not alleviate problem
-factory reset does not alleviate problem
-fastboot flash-all does not normally alleviate problem
-only flashing a ROM via TWRP works
2. ROM flashed via TWRP, things work like normal for ~4-24 hours. At some point, there will be a random reboot. Usually, this is while under stress (playing a game, updating apps). It will reboot normally and continue to work like normal for some time. But it's a ticking time bomb. There will be another random reboot at some point, often while idle - definitely not workload-related. This second one will get me stuck on the Google splash screen again, with the only way of fixing being re-flashing the ROM via TWRP.
These symptoms are basically the same regardless of the ROM - I've tried factory images, a stock-ish ROM with Gapps removed from XDA, and CyanogenMod. It seems like it could be a hardware problem, but I don't have a clue what it would be since it is so consistently fixable, albeit temporarily. Does anyone have any troubleshooting suggestions or a clue as to what part of the phone is likely failing?

Okay, so this afternoon I went to check on it after spending some time on the charger. The LED was lit, so I thought things would be fine. It just wouldn't wake up. It wasn't responding to various button presses, but the LED turned off after I held the power button. It took a lot more attempts than normal to get to fastboot, but eventually got there. I used fastboot boot to get to TWRP and retrieved last_kmsg, kernel_log, and logcat. Logcast was empty. Here are pastebins for the other outputs.
last_kmsg: http://pastebin.com/z2KG2aHW
kernel_log_output: http://pastebin.com/v7TZZKeb
Thanks for the help!
I'm going to bump this one time, since there are now logs posted which I think might provide some clear insights to those who know how to interpret them.

Galaxy S6 - freezing and rebooting 50+ times a day

I've got a Vodafone UK version SM-G920F that has recently started to freeze, crash and reboot constantly.
I managed to back up my data and perform a factory reset from the Setting page, but it crashed 10+ times during the install process (would freeze at various different stages, either rebooting on its own, or requiring a Vol Down+Power reset)
I'm now on a fresh install, but it's still rebooting constantly. I managed to use it like normal for an hour today, but right now it's just rebooted 3 times and won't even get past the Samsung loading screen without several Vol Down+Power resets.
What other options do I have? And is anyone aware of a known hardware issue that could cause this?
I was considering flashing a different ROM, but I'm scared it would reboot during the process and corrupt something...

Maybe a battery issue?
a friend just gave me his very same model phone with the very same issues.. if I find out anything I'll tell you here, or if you solve it first please write down what you did.
Thanks Vibbuz.
I've been trying to download a stock firmware to flash via Odin, but download speeds from Updato are really bad.
So I managed to flash a firmware after installing Odin on a Windows laptop (painful trying to get it to work on my Mac)
Firmware installed OK, but after boot I was getting a constant "com.sec.epdg" pop-up box that wouldn't let me use the phone at all. Not sure if that's due to the tsar3000 firmware?
Wiped the cache and did a factory reset after booting into recovery, and now it's stuck in a boot-loop again (95% of the time it hangs at the Samsung logo animation)
Just tried using SamFirm v0.3.6 to find the correct file. Downloaded a 4gb file, but several attempts to extract only gives BL, CP, CSC files but no AP (throws up an Unknown Error during process).
So still stumped!
Yet another update. Left Updato running overnight and downloaded a firmware.
Flashed it with Odin, claims to have succeeded but phone then reboots and hangs at "Erasing" stage (Android logo is spinning, then stops)
I'm starting to think it's pretty broken...
I've been having this exact same issue since June. If your phone happens to boot try activating power saving mode (to reduce cpu speed) as soon as possible.
It seems that doing that diminished the frequency in which my phone rebooted. If it also helps you it might be a faulty battery that can't provide enough voltage. (I'm not 100% sure on this part though, just thought of it because of the apple batteries drama)
Please post your results! Looks like a lot of people are affected by this and it would be great if we could find the cause of the problem.
I just read your thread actually! Sounds very similar to mine.
I've got nowhere. I don't think it's hard-bricked as I can still access Odin mode on the phone, and sometimes boots to Recovery, but it freezes and various different points and is currently unusable (either freezes at Samsung logo, "Erasing" part after installing firmware, or once it started to run though new device setup then froze).
Went ahead and bought an S8, but still want to fix the S6!

Hi I have same Problem I send the my s6 for repairmen that Saied me this problem related to mobile Hard drive.
I didn't believe it and try some official rom and a rom from Philippine GLB solve my problem for 3 M/o but now developed as same problem whitout any successful rom installation.
I think this problem from incompatibility google play store version to my rom. please flash a custom rom without google apps and immediately after installation turned off data and Wi-Fi internet after 2 day whit sim card whit out any change in setting can use it.
Hello,
anyone found some kind of solution? Happened to me also - freezing, restarts and then my S6 stopped working.. Sometimes I can boot to recovery menu, sometimes it boots up to android (and then freezes again), but the chances are almost non existing. Service man told me the same thing as @ghasemzm - eMMC failure. Yes, it is completely possible, but i don't wanna believe it, because they only tried to reflash the rom. I've made some "google research" and found that there were some issues in power IC on S6/S6E. Could this be related to it?

Will test the theory and let the group know.
So i have installed philipines latest update 6.0.1 i think with PIT file provided on Sammobile.
I have tested it for a day with normal ussage like i set up every other phone and it still continued restarting.
Figured out let me test with no google account signed in and the phone is working perfectly. For a full day.
So i dont know what the problem is but i will try again with google account tomorrow for a day see what happens.
After that will install 7.0.1 uk update with PIT file for it and test with that.
I have the same problem and I am quite sure that it is the mobile hard drive.
I tried to use F2FS but didn't find a working rom for that.
Samsung refused repair because of root.... Never Samsung again!
same issues here - any solutions found? My best guess is hardware fault...
