[Q] Forum differences - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I've just got a nexus 5 (had htc one xl before). What are the differences between the android and the original android forums in the nexus fiorums?
On the htc forums, original android was aokp, aosp, cyanogen based roms etc, with the android forums containing all the sense ones..
If the nexus is just vanilla android, why are there 2 forums?
Thanks

Seriously? This gets asked EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. Why people seem to not know how to search is beyond me. Google + 3 seconds of my time led me to this- http://www.xda-developers.com/android/introducing-original-development-forums-for-more-devices/
I'm not trying to be a **** but you gotta try to help yourself first before you expect people to go out of their way to help you.

Was a simple question really.

[Q] [noob] Best Rom?

Hi, mitchel0 here
I just recently got my first android phone, the at&t USA HOX. Since A root exploit was just found, and I really want jellybean, I was wondering what the current best rom for this phone is. I have no prior experience in android and am a noob. I am looking for functionality, stability, compatibility, and battery life, so please recommend me what the current best is. Thanks!
P.S do i need to flash a radio, or do roms come with those? If I do, what radio? Thanks!
If you rooted from 2.20 you can't flash a radio.
There is no "best" Rom. Go flash and experiment
Best rom threads are against the rules as wellm

Everyone I have seen on the One XL is using the Viper XL ROM. Very smooth, fast, lots of mods.
I flashed codename android, and it's awesome, I'll get around to flashing some others eventually

cm10 is the best!
cm10
Cyanogized HTC1 X
CM10 is great. However, h8rift, the developer, is doing a lot of work to the kernel right now, so it will be 1000x better soon. :highfive:

best is a matter of opinion
Stop encouraging this behavior by posting the "best" Rom.
I haven't even tried some of them, but I'm not gonna go around saying "x is the best"

ROM selection is a personal preference. What works for one person, may not for another. Because of this, "best rom" threads really serve no.purposem The best way to find out what ROM will work for you, is to research, flash, and experiment.

[Q] Original Android Development

Hello, can somebody please tell me the difference between "Nexus 5 Android Development" and "Nexus 5 Original Android Development"?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Original Development would be a section where coders who write android programs/Roms/Kernel from scratch/AOSP, opposed to writing hacks/modifications/unofficial nightlies for pre-existing software originally written by someone else.

Petty much.
Although in "original" the meaning is that the larger percentage of it is your work. If you take kernel source (with permission and credits etc) and add a couple of functions to it, then that is not original. But if you take it and add substantial functions such as dual boot, works on Stock/AOSP and then some - perhaps you can argue it is different enough from the original to be original again
This is a long, but good read. The answer to your question is within it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=47033844

And I found it at the end of the document xD. Thanks to all for answering.
In other forums like Gnexus, galaxy S or Htc magic, there wasn't two sepparate development sections I think.
Thks

Doubtful as that is a TouchWiz based ROM to my knowledge. At least by the looks and the size of the file!

I don't know if we're able to port jellybean roms. Do they have a color os for kitkat? It looks pretty cool and it's always nice to test new stuff.

Looks like MIUI based ROM. Haven't seen anything like this for N5. Definitely not TouchWiz.

why would you want that?

too many bugs on the oppo firmware (for my liking), compared to aosp/cm/omni

thats one question that he wont answer. we all have differing wants and needs when it comes to roms(and kernels). so its always recommended to try out a bunch of different roms, and stay with the one that fits your wants and needs. go through the android development and original development threads to check them out.

You want to port the stock ROM, CM, AOSP and MIUI to the Nexus 5 even though it already has it?
No idea what you're asking.

MIUI v6 is still in its infancy stages and is still being worked on. When its ready, it'll be available.
As what others have said, we have a difficult time understanding what you want. Usually on XDA, you can't request someone to port a particular ROM, especially when those ROMs are already existent on the N5.

What I'm really asking for is a up to update porting guide all of the ones here are out dated.
If you know of one that is up to update let know were it is.

They're not outdated though? Cm nightlies are being released every night. A port is when one particular subject doesn't exist but exists for another device (or whatever it may be) to have it for your device.
A port isn't needed because it exists already.
Cm nightlies are released every night.
No one uses a bare bone aosp build. All roms use aosp as a base regardless.
Miui is relatively new and is still in beta.

I think he's trying to say that he found a rom that he likes that is being built for a different device. He needs a guide to help him take that rom and port it to the nexus 5 so he can use it.
His example is MIUIv6, it's not developed specifically for this device so he'd like to try to port it using an updated 'How-to' porting guide.
