Sorry, but...
So, what's baseband?
For example, for my phone the Latest SE firmware are:
2.1.1.A.0.6 / 2.1.1.C.0.0
and from that difference, the baseband changes...
So, using Your example may be first xp and second vista?
But where I can read what's are the difference between this two ones?
Is always suggested to change it, anytime a new one release's deployed?
And baseband? How is useful?
Thanks.
Cheers,
M.
Hi
When a rom is based on XXX, does it mean I have to download and install XXX first or is it included in the rom ?
For exemple http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1506752
"Based on stock 2.3.6 Dxkt5"
This is the Asian 2.3.6 for Samsung Galaxy Ace.
I'm french and using european 2.3.6. (XWKT7) (not yet, but downloading. 2.3.4 atm)
Can I install the OmegaRom? And how?
Thanks

Difference between link ROM and firmware at Samsung Updates
Hello,
I am trying to revert back from the latest Jelly Bean update 4.1.1 to stock Samsung ICS. I was going to go through the ROM provided via XDA along with ODIN, but then I checked the Samsung Updates website, and the firmware they provide for the phone is much larger then the one you provided.
I am confused about:
1- what is the difference between the ROM and the firmware.
2- if there isn't any difference why is the one at Samsung Updates much larger then the one linked to here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1737855&highlight=stock+rom
3- If there is a difference how does one install firmware rather than ROMs.
4- is there a way to disable automatic updates once the ICS firmware or ROM is installed on the phone?
Thank you very much in advance,
-Z

Sam up dates stock Samsung firmware or a stock rom.

Hi, I am currently running V.2.3.4 on my Samsung GS 2. The phone is unlocked purchased on Internet and I am with AT&T in US.
My question is how can I get 2.3.5 or higher if it's official released by Google says for UK but not for US. I don't even know Google did release it in US or not.
If not, can I still do it and where can I get it?
Any reponses would be appreciated.
Do you have the international or the AT&T version? The international version has 2.3.6 already.
You can find out which version you have in the system information. The international version is the GT-I9100.

Thanks for replying. My carrier is AT&T but I bought the phone unlocked online so it is the international version ( no AT&T name on it ) Is 2.3.6 official release or simply a beta?
Thanks
Official release. However it's not available to everyone through KIES yet. I don't know why. Maybe because Samsung handles updates crappy or because KIES is crappy.
You live in the US so I'll find a suitable update for you (English language and such). Just give me some time. I REALLY need to go sleep now. Just tell me what CSC you have asap. The best would be if you post your output of the System-Information from Android. Kernel, Baseband,....such stuff. Do you use Windows, Linux or OSX?

In that thread it is. And if it isn't, kies would have notified that there was a further update (so logically, it has to be).

Remember there are many variants of the Samsung Galaxy SII. Some have that update (as shown in the thread), some don't (like yours - XWKI4 (KI1)). You could interchange if you want to; See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1301772.

That's right, but if he tells me what CSC he has, he might has luck. There is a 2.3.6 firmware with multicsc and if his is amongst them, he can safely flash it, because it's english anyway.
If he has no luck, he still has options:
Wait for an update or go with MIUI or CyanogenMod and therefore 2.3.7.

Interchange? Meaning I can still use the 2.3.6 that is suppose for other GS 2 right?
GT-I9100 is GT-I9100 so the firmware will work on your device. But depending on your CSC, you might get problems with mobile data and such.
CSC is a problem in stock-roms only. Custom-roms just work, so those are an alternative too. You can always flash back later.

P.S. I've done the upgrade on my wife's Samsung Galaxy 3 I5800 one time ( from 2.1 to 2.2 ) The phone was not for US market as a result I could not get updates but I found the firmware & instructions online and finally got it done.
I just saw quite a bit of people in Android forum complaining about 2.3.6 causing battery drainage after the upgrade. Is it real?

Let me check this. I can't tell now, because I've never used 2.3.6. I used 2.3.7 right away and now my ROM is based on 4.0.1. If the battery is a problem, I'll find you a 2.3.5. one.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
EDIT:
Indeed many people on the internet complain about that battery-life got worse. Here on xda and various different sites. I think you should go with 2.3.5 then. It's still an upgrade and people like it.
The latest one for you should be this one:
XWKJ3
Android 2.3.5
This package has: PDA: XWKJ3| Modem/phone: XXKI3| CSC: XEUKH2

Firmware upgrade FAILED! HELP!
I was upgrading my GS 2 from 2.3.4 to 2.3.5 by following the links provided here some how the upgrade failed. In the mean time my GS2 STILL SHOW DOWNLOADING and said DO NOT UNPLUG THE CABLE so I waited, waited I think it was more than 12 to 15 min finally I unplugged it, the phone was still in downloading mode and didn't respond to all buttons so I removed the battery, tried back the downloading mode again then it pops up the message " Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again "
But Kies said " Device not responding. To resolve the issue reboot the device " which I've tried a numerous time and nothing happen. Can some one help please!!!
Thanks
UPDATE:
I just got it fixed. While I was waiting I decided to go ahead to do whatever it takes what I did was re-do the process by opened up the Odin on PC suprisingly the downloading bar on phone & Odin both appearing while the " Firmware upgrade encountered a issue Please use KIES for recovery mode " message still there and Odin said it passed, the phone rebooted and I checked the version which is 2.3.5 I also checked all my files nothing is lost. How & why I have no idea may be some Android experts in this forum can tell me. Now everything is all good. I learned my lesson I should kept waiting before unplug or remove the cable/battery whether the process is succeded or not.
Total noob here.I have a Galaxy Nexus S GSM phone running ICS.I do not know the exact model I have I suspect I am having the M200 variant. The guy who sold it to me in all probability rooted it to install ICS.I want to install Jelly Bean on it.My questions are(Please forgive the wall of text, I wanted to be as elaborate as possible)
1) How can I know if my phone has been rooted ? Can you install ICS without rooting and without an OTA update?I dont know what the previous owner did.
I found out that I have an unlocked bootloader. But When I try to install and run Voodoo Sound which requires a rooted device. It says
"Sorry, this device doesn't run a kernel supporting extended sound controls"
can I take it to mean the device is not rooted?
2) Can I find out definitively if my phone is M200 Nexus S?

HW Version :Rev 11
BASELOADER : I9020XXKL1
Baseband M200KRKC1

I pulled out the battery and it just says i9020 on the back of it as well as the phone box.The box also says made in Korea and it was imported into Romania. (I live in India and i bought the phone someone imported into India )
MY IMEI starts with 3569 if that helps
3) I want to install Jelly Bean and no OTA update here.If I do not know conclusively if I am having M200 will it brick if I install 9020T Roms, I remember reading somewhere they are very similar and some early unofficial Jelly Bean builds for 9020T worked on M200.I do want to install Jelly Bean that is why I am looking at the Nexus Oneclick Tookit.Does it differentiate between M200 and I9020T builds?
Edit: I checked and I need to know model SOJU or SOJUK
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in Advance
I looked at these threads but I cannot conclusively say this is an M200 version

randomphantasmagoria.com/firmware/nexus-s/m200/
Now check this with someone before you do this but I think you can just go to settings>About phone>System Updates>check now
Ideally this should update to ICS 4.0.4
I think Over The Air(OTA) updates should be safe for your data and is ideal for people like me who are new to Android.Just get this confirmed with someone who knows about it and you should be able to upgrade.
I think you should be able to upgrade to ICS.My problem is different. There is no JB out for M200.
I checked with an app called android system info. It says my model is nexus S and priduct is Soju. On the factory image website of google, i saw a factory image JB for nexus S. Not sure what to do now. Also, i tried the OTA update, it gets stuck at the White triangle with green droid screen. I desperately want to shift to JB or ICS.
WHAT TO DO???

U sure it says Soju and not Sojuk?Mine says Sojuk. If only I had known it was so simple to find out my model
Just go to settings-> about phone and look at the baseband. The model is the one before the XX. e.g I9020, I9023, m200 etc
By the way there is no Galaxy Nexus S, it's just Nexus S or Galaxy Nexus, no combinations of the two.
If the phone is rooted you should see superuser in the app drawer.
Just use the search function to find out how to install jellybean on the m200, it's been answered

good day guys! please help me with my problem.
i have recently bought a used nexus s. i have acquired this phone because i know that it uses the wolfson audio chip and i want to make it a music player by using the voodoo sound app (this app needs root access). my problem is i don't know what version it is hence i can't root it for fear of flashing the wrong kernel and bricking the phone. i'm in the philippines so if the phone was bought here, it must be an i9020 international version. besides, there are no korean apps or characters present. i took a picture of the sticker under the battery and saw texts in korean and then it says SHW-M200K at the end of the first line. i know that this is the code for the korean version. so is it right for me to assume that i have the korean version? but then again in the fourth line of the sticker i saw text that says FCC ID: A3LGTi9020. this is the code for the international version so i'm confused. when i checked the settings, about phone, it showed android version as 4.1.2 and baseband as XXKI1. lately i saw a korean version of the nexus s and the baseband starts with M200..... however, my phone's baseband is XXKI1. i'm really confused please help me. i'm planning to root this using this toolkit but i don't know what's the version of my phone.

As somewhere i read on the internet that you can change your baseband version by changing radio..
I'd take some of pictures of back but didn't get clear anyone of them, said i've no other camera so you can see mine one board..
You can check your IMEI number online and they will tell you what your model number actually is..

Or anyother site you may check...
thank you very much for your help brother hito. as indicated in the IMEI lookup, my device is a korean nexus s with model number SHW-M200K.

Hello, I'm from Costa Rica and has the same problem when I try to do the update from the tablet, I was reading about some rooms as you said, but I found another article somewhere on the net.... What you need to do is download the kies synch program from the samsung web page.... Install it on your pc and download any update, also download the drivers, then connect your tablet and the system recognize the model etc. At this point the kies tell you that there is a new update for the tablet and you're set.

Hi, you have two ways for it:
1. See new original update on samsung-update com.
Download from site and install on your 5110
2. Download from samsung update new os version for italian or australian, install this os on you divice and check you native language (german, russian, chinese, etc ) and use .
From first way - you not loosing warranty.
From second way - you loosing warranty, but you always can downgrade you os to you original version 4.0.3

As long as your device is already working with your network/carrier, you shouldn't need to flash anything or modify anything to get the device radio/modem to work with your network after you flash the ROM.
