Triband Nexus 5 - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can someone please clarify something for me? I just got off the phone with a Sprint associate who was really rude. I have a Nexus 5 that will not receive phone calls when LTE is enabled. When 3G is enabled I get calls just fine.Is it because of this?
http://www.pocketables.com/2014/01/heres-triband-lte-sprint-phone-wont-connect-lte.html
Will enabling the other bands on my phone (after getting my MSL) allow me to do this. I believe Sprint Spark is available where I am (Kalamazoo MI).
I have rooted and flashed Calkulin's CM11 ROM....I can't remember if I had this problem before I rooted since I only get 3G coverage most of the time in my home.
Thanks for any insight....I hope I explained my problem correctly.

Isn't there a thread in general to get sprint working on custom roms? Did you do your search on general too, or did you only search q&a?
When searching, definitely search twice (in both q&a AND general) as guides to fix things are often in general

I did both...couldn't find what I was looking for. It seems that search on XDA is down right now as well.
Edit: I updated my PRL and it fixed the problem....

Yeah search is never great unfortunately and I really don't like having general + q&a separate.
Ah well. Glad its sorted anyway

TS--Just returned from the Sprint Store at their HQ. According to the guy helping me, the N5 hasn't received the Spark update yet. It will, but hasn't happened yet. Even in the store, the demo wasn't on Spark. Right next to it, the LG G2 was on Spark and rocking 40+ Mb/s.

1) Yes N5 hasn't got official spark update, but getting the .15 radio I've heard forces it to love band 41 by default if it picks it up over band 25 and you enable the bands, but it's not a for-sure thing and seems to be hit or miss.
2) It probably was an eHRPD issue you ran into.
3) Patience.

Glad to hear that the PRL update fixed the issue. Just so you are aware, when you are on a phone call, your LTE data will not work.

RIL patch questions..will update OP as info thread eventually

The RIL patch is supposed to fix the problem with the hand off between 3g and 4g and vice versa..some claim it improves 3g signal all together also. I have horrible service where I live and I'm supposedly in a great 4g coverage area according to verizons maps. I'm luck if I can get a constant 3g signal let alone actually load a web page within 2 min without data dropping in and out. I was hoping this RIL patch might help. I'm confused though. Is there a patch somewhere that's for any AOSP ROM? At first I thought there was but now I don't think there is. All I can find is the one that's specifically for AOKP and I've tried it in CNA and I couldn't even boot the phone back up. There's no dedicated thread about this patch and info about who can use it so once all the info is here I will update the OP and this hopefully can become the thread for the info and download. So if you know about it please post. Thanks

Use aokp or slim bean to have the implemented patch. Liquid also has their own form of an ril patch coming. But for the record this is not the right section for this post. Q and a next time homie.

Agreed and moved to Q&A.
OP, once you do get all the info you are requesting, then you can craft a clean and clear thread with what you are trying to do. For now this is a fishing for information thread and not development.
Thanks to all

[Q] Where can I find the radios/modem for Verizon Galaxy S 3?

Where can I find the radios/modem for Verizon Galaxy S 3?
My buddy is having problems with his cell signal, his 4g is working fine, I need to find where I can reflash his radios. Through search I couldnt find them. Is there anyone who knows where they are? or if they go by a different name?

You can find them over at rootzwiki and then look at the Verizon GS3 development section in the forums.

If it is indeed within one year and you are sure its a hardware failure then keep trying. Call back until you find someone willing to replace it. If that doesnt work call Samsung.

Unfortunately for him the screen is cracked and according to a verizon rep
"the fall that cracked the screen could have caused the malfunction and we cant replace the device"

Any chance we can run the Nexus 5 on verizon?

Just wondering if it is even possible.
Not happening

Nope, not at all.
God. I hate how Verizon keeps pulling this **** off. Such an amazing phone. Might just order one off Google to have and sell later on.
Edit*
Even with a lot of development, there is no way to bypass it huh

Not really. Might be feasible to spoof the activation from a previously enabled Verizon phone but I don't think anyone's even started working on that, and THAT would be an ugly workaround.

Would it be possible now that they release the update for the Nexus 7?, I'm guessing somebody could pull it apart and figure what makes that update so special

No still not because version's VOICE network is CDMA and if they don't have your ESN in their database you can't connect. Simple as that.
The methods of doing that is similar to those of flashing Sprint phone to boost mobile. But I think it's illegal and can't be discused in xda as it requires modifing imei/esn.

no, it has nothing to do with that.
verizon keeps a list of all the allowed ESN/IMEI numbers and will not let a number on their network that is not in their list.
I think he meant modifying the esn to match one in their database, which would be illegal. This thread should be closed.
I've seen some photos and heard some rumors that Verison will be carrying an official branded Nexus7 (boy, do I mean branded) sometime this year. Hopefully the 5 will follow

worst fear, cdma (sprint) data issues already?

so stock is great but we all know we love our custom roms and have our favorite devs. i saw cataclysm rom pop up the other day and flashed, all working fine (data provisioned like it should, etc). this morning i noticed a good number of custom roms appeared for us. so i naturally wanted to give them a run (alpha or not), 3 different roms (omni, unofficial carbon, and asylum) all with the same result. it will sit on the provisioning data service screen until it times out and asks you to try again. now somebody in omni replied saying it was a known issue.
here is my concern/question i guess, are we going to see issues bc sprint didnt actually get out of the way and just give up binaries to google? my understanding was one rom should work on all variants. i am not foreign to data issues and sprint as i had the sprint gnex but this was me giving them one last chance before taking it to tmobile, which we can fortunately do with the n5.
Definitely frustrating today for sure. There's a lot of cool ROM's that we're not able to enjoy yet.
I've been sending some PM's around and I can assure you that there are people looking into it. I see the following scenarios as possibilities:
- We may need to create a flashable zip of the Sprint APN settings. It would need to be flashed after every ROM/Gapps install. AT&T and Straight Talk already have a thread for this.
- The devs (except for Rascarlo who already said he will not do this) may start to take notice and try to fix it when building their ROM's. It may be a HiddenMenu issue.
- Worst Case Scenario - we have a separate Sprint Development Forum. Because we have the same model number, I doubt it will come to this though.

well this is really dissapointing then. this "one phone for all" seems to be a bill of goods. will probably just be switching to tmobile when i can and not having to deal with sprint being in the way. if it is this way already and there hasnt even been an update, i do not have high hopes for us cdma users.
edit: i am sure devs are working on this and will get it working in some way. just stinks and its weird that cataclysm is working just fine when it comes to data but 3 others didnt.

Cordell was able to add something to the SlimROM he's been working on. In not going to post it without his permission, but what he did today should fix any future issues of compatibility.

nice...i remember slimkat having working data when i gave it a go the other day. i am happy to test the fix if you or he wants to pm me. i used to test for sourcery on sprint gnex so i am good at putting things through the paces and can run logcats if need be.
I also think someone is going make flashable zips that I'll be testing later as well. That way we'll have options for ROMs where the devs don't build the fix in their ROMs.

Honestly the devs need to post roms compatible with cdma or not post them in this forum. nexus firmware is the same for both variants and custom/aosp roms should follow the same rule.

Change radio scan times?

Has anyone figured out a way to edit the scan times on a Nexus 5?
The frequency of time it takes to rescan for LTE after dropping it is way too long. I know other phones are much better and I've even seen it said that they've changed the scan times on an LG G3.

mine reconnects to lte nearly instantly(in a few seconds). maybe the lte signal around you isnt very strong?
No, it's certainly an issue after dropping LTE and the amount of time it takes to rescan on its own, without toggling airplane mode. Been endlessly discussed at s4gru.com

just because its endlessly discussed on s4gru.com, its the first time ever ive heard of this n5 "issue", and obviously im not experiencing the issue. again, it can be related to you not having a good lte signal around you. or, it can very likely just be a sprint issue with lte.

ok then. i guess youll be happy with an answer that there is a definitive issue on the nexus 5 and scanning for lte, on every single carrier. i must be the only one that doesnt have this issue. not. i know not of this issue for anyone on tmobile or att. my guess is that its sprint related. just like your site s4gru.com, its an exclusively sprint website. see the dots got connected..
Some of those folks there ha e ATT sims for their N5's as well, but that's OK. It's a site full of radio engineering geeks, so I'm sure they know what they're talking about.

it is not a nexus 5 issue, i do not have the one phone without an issue. most likely its an issue with sprint. if you search xda, you wont find info on it. if you want to make sure, stick in a tmo or att sim into the phone and check.

what you can do is try out the different nexus 5 modems/radios. each radio will react slightly differently, and maybe you can find the one that connects best for you. here is the nexus 5 radio thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47164660&postcount=1
