[Q] Installaing ROM for the first time - Optimus One, P500, V Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All XDA members,
I have LG P500 with 2.3 & want to flash it with ICS 3.0.0. Want to check which is the latest ROM I can use.
Is the ICS 3.0.0 ROM stable OR has some bugs. Please send me the download link with flashing details.
I have 8 GB SD & since the phone has 200 MB internal memory, can anyone guide if I will need to create another partition on SD Card before OR
after flashing new ROM. Also do post the procedure to end the low memory issue.
Thanking You All.

Hi there! You can Install Android 4.2.2(JellyBean) on your device. It seems to be stable, but all custom ROMs have one or the other bug!
There is no need to partition SD CARD for installing a ROM.
You can download the ROM from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2142413
The Instructions are also given there!
P.S : Keep in mind, ICS is not 3.0.0 -_- its 4.0!

Thanks PixCM for the reply.

If you want to try more newer Android, you can try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2589303
It's based on KitKat 4.4.2 and now it's on 8th release.
I've tried it and I think it's stable enough, the only bug I found is when I activate and deactivate WiFi tethering the device will reboot it self or if not reboot when you need to use WiFi connection you will need to reboot it manually.
I also found this bug on this ICS ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1833218
who have the same symptom of reboot automatically when I activate and deactivate WiFi tethering.

Hi,
Android 4.0 will work (I tested it with Cyanogenmod 10), but might drain your battery, be advised.
That's the reason why I've switched from Android 4.0 back to 2.3.7 (Cyanogenmod 7).

--Flash it via ODIN
--Download the Music ROM
--Flash it via CWM

what if i do this without the upgrade to Gingerbread...as in with the Froyo 2.2 i try installing the custom ROM as it shows in the video??
my kies is saying "connection error" when i click on upgrade firmware...so should i go for the custom ROM in my froyo 2.2??
u need internet connection, cuz when u update via kies its downloading the frimware
You can try to install over Froyo, but some features you can't use (like cam, wifi, bt etc) because customs roms are build in most cases on gingearbread
so i will do this??

1st option::
install the custom ROM on my Froyo 2.2
then add fix for the camera and wifi
will that work??
2nd option::
since Kies is not updating my firmware...i manually update my firmware and then root it and then install the custom ROM
i would really prefer the 1st option if possible...
I don't think it will work the first option, but you can try on your own risk.
Rather this second option would go. You have everything you need here if you want go with the second option.
there is no custom ROM for froyo in galaxy fit, cuz all custom ROM made for fit is based on gingerbread

[Q] Particular specs for 8010 needs advice please

Hi everybody,
I've spent the last 2 weeks reading up as much as I can about the 8010 and I would like to achieve the following functionalities with my tablet:
Install apps on my external sd card (Sandisk 64GB UHS-1 class 10) and also have use of the existing internal storage. [ROOT required?]
Play games using a bluetooth PS3 gamepad. [Requires ROOT.]
Finish with a ROM that allows OTA updates. [or allows easy solution to achieve this]
Here are the problems:
My build number is N8010XXALGC which I understand doesn't support the sd card(which came pre-formatted in ex-fat). I can read/use the card fine attached to my pc but the tablet only gives 'safe to remove' option.
To rectify this, I should upgrade to a newer build but....
Question: If I have to upgrade, which ROM should it be and what's the best way to upgrade/root for my requirements?
I've read the Rooting guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1831152
If I upgrade to a stock ROM then ROOT I don't think I would have init.d required for installing apps on sd card feature?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1883125
or
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1888986
'ROM Something' seems to be what I would require but there are issues. [init.d support]
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2046446
Then there's the 4.1.2 Stock German ROM.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2058230
If someone could explain how/if/when triangle away would be required in this process/afterwards it would be very helpful.
I appreciate this is a lot to ask of our members but I think this setup is one that is not out of the ordinary but rather a common requirement.
It would be awesome if somebody could take the time to answer this and if it was useful to others maybe pin the answers/step for others.
I'm deeply grateful for any assistance
yammy
p.s. I'm a techie but just new to andoid and sort of rekindling linux. I remember when you had to install DOS before windows then type WIN to run. LOL.
Ok I do not know if the new german rom would work without an issue on ur device because it is for 8000 but there are work arounds.
You will need to re - root the device after you install the rom. there is a very easyway to do that bec of the exploit.
To use ur sd card as storage you will need to do Int-d otherwise it wont work.
The best method to install the rom is download the complete firmware instead of the OTA because OTA can cause lot of issue if not for your region specific rom so would ask you to avoid it, but the problem in your case is the JB rom is upgradable only through OTA as no complete firmware is out.
When you install a custom rom or custom recovery the binar count increase (a way of samsung to keep track of all these things) if you device fails and your binary count is more then 0 your warranty will be void and you will have to go in for paid repairs, what triangleway does is reset the counter to zero.
Please let me know if i have missed something

From your reply it seems the best thing for me is to wait for the official OTA upgrade to JB, then Root 4.1.1/4.1.2 ROM, add init.d support and that's it.:fingers-crossed:

I just flashed twrp recovery with Odin, followed by omega Rom. Then I ran the script to swap internal and external storage. Now my n8010 thinks the 32gb exfat formatted card is the internal memory.
I've tried it using the 64 gb card out of my note 2 and can confirm it works with those as well.

Any queries about RESURRECTION REMIX should be discussed here

format the system through the “mounts and storage” submenu.
I am intending to install the latest version of RR on my rooted i9300, loaded with CWM and CWM Rom Manager.
I have watched the excellent video on how to install RR and have researched on XDA the steps to be taken to back-up data an,the Rom and settings..
I have saved my WIFI settings on an external SD and the EFS file, using EFS Professional is backed-up on my Samsung laptop.
My i9300 is running a late version stock Rom, which I installed using Odin. I have never previously flashed any custom Rom on this device.
My current Rom and data is backed-up with Kies and I intend a further full back-up to Cloud using Titanium Pro.
My S5660 runs a very stable CM 10.1.6,, which I successfully flashed earlier this year and have some understanding of the process.
Now to my questions.
1) I understand that (like computers) mobile phones operate better if there is a full format before loading a different ROM.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2708719
I am therefore tempted to adopt the advice here ...
http://www.droidreport.com/how-inst...ion-remix-rom-samsung-galaxy-s3-gt-i9300-5227
namely of formatting the system through the “mounts and storage” submenu in addition to the basic 'spring clean'.
If I do so, will I need to reload the EFS backed-up on to my computer, or will the format not affect the existing EFS partition?
2) I have read that changing the kernel to the Omirom i9300 kernal, shown here, improves performance.
http://boeffla.df-kunde.de/sgs3/boeffla-kernel-omni/omni11_download/Series 2.x/2.2/
Do I wait until after installing RR?
There are two versions one with and one without checksum. Do I need the checksum version if I am flashing it after installing RR?

A really excellent ROM
Further to my post above, I migrated from 4.3 stock to RR yesterday.
I used my ext SD card as one of my backups and to flash the ROM, light GAPP & subsequently kernel.
The only minor issue I had was not related to the ROM but the need to point Titanium Pro to the backup folder on the ext SD to recover my WIFI settings. In common with others, Google does not restore my WIFI settings, which may be an issue relating to my European location.
I especially like the folders.

Updating
It was a pleasant surprise to see an update in Notification this morning (GMT +3). I downloaded it on my S3, I must admit I then cheated a little by connecting to my laptop to move the update from the download folder to the root of my ext SD. Then followed the advice, namely to make a Nandroid backup, boot into CWM recovery, flash the update and GAPPS, wipe cache and dalvick cache (found in 'advanced') and rebooted.
A very smooth and quick process.
I have discovered that if I put the device on charge the installation/reboot seems to be quicker too. Whether it is in fact quicker, remains to be seen.
Now where did I put that 'changelog' to discover what the update adds? ;
add:
Brilliant. The change log is in settings ;
unmounting the Ext SD card
On the Resurrection development forum this evening -- which I am not yet qualified to post on, the question was raised as to why there was no 'dismount button' for the Ext SD card on RR.
A quick Google of KitKat and Ext SD Cards draws attention to the fact that Google does not support Ext SD cards aka 'expandable storage' on KitKat, preferring users store in cloud. I suspect that is a commercial decision, though the reason given is security.
I commented in earlier posts that although I could easily backup on the Ext SD using Titanium on Jelly Bean, after installing RR's KitKat based ROM, Titanium could not discover where my backup folders were without me signposting the way.
Ditto when downloading OTA the update for RR today. I used my laptop to move the Zip from the internal SD to the external SD.
This difficulty does not, however, appear to exist in CWM Recovery. In CWM Recovery, an SD card can be dismounted. See this wiki link.

one week on ...
I have put this Rom to very heavy wifi use since uploading it a week ago and the OTA update a couple of days later.
It is amazingly solid.
I have yet to break it.
After resetting the battery, it lasts much longer than it did with JB 4.3.
I think a liberal use of Greenify may be helping on that.
It is almost churlish to raise a point made on the development forum namely that when I turn off Tunein Radio app, it leaves its shadow on the lock page which I have clear with a reboot.
Having established that the Rom was happy on my S3, and knowing that Google does not support external SD cards on KK, I migrated all my files, including Titanium to the internal SD.

Internal Memory : How to get maximum free space?

Motorola Atrix 2 has got 8GB of ROM but users get only 4.xx GB available as free.
I am not complaining about the free space but want to know if there is workaround to get more free space available free for our use? Recently fellow member @swaggy123 mentioned in one thread that he used to have 6.xx GB of free space in JB leak ROM. That strike my mind if it was possible in JB leak ROM then why not in other ROMs?
Right now I am having SlimKat 5.10 ROM with minimal GApps on system and no other ROMs on any of the systems and phone is showing 4.55 GB as total space. There I have installed apps of worth 1.02 GB and now having around 3.26 GB of free space left in the internal memory.
For instance two thoughts came in my mind :
1. If we install Standard GApps instead of Minimal GApps then do they consume that available free data space or install in the system partition?
2. If we manually include few regularly used apps in the main ROM then where will they go? In the system partition or in the visible free data partition of 4.55 GB?
Is there any practical and risk-free workaround to get maximum space visible out of the internal memory?

2. If we manually include few regularly used apps in the main ROM then where will they go? In the system partition or in the visible free data partition of 4.55 GB?
Is there any practical and risk-free workaround to get maximum space visible out of the internal memory?

I have CM11 on system 1 and no other ROMS... I use ART runtime
My stats are : Free memory : 4.88 GB Used Space : 1.4 GB
I always get over 6 GB as free memory on system 1.. I have Atrix 2 Indian version (Searet as many call it)

Mine is also Indian retail MB865 but I never had above 4.55 in total.
ROM is of 8GB in size but looks like the default partitions have occupied bigger sizes and left only 4.55 GB as data partition in my case. I guess there should be some workaround to get more space.
BTW where the GApps install? in the data partition or in the system partition? And where system apps install?

Also in the system partition.
If you want to dig into it some more to get a little better understanding of the partitions install a good root enabled file explorer, ( Root Explorer is my preference but ES Explorer is a popular one as well) and look around in the root "/" of your device. The file path to your system apps will be /system/app & /system/priv-app. Your free user apps will be located at /data/app and (most of) your paid apps will be at /data/app-asec. Any partitions created by BMM will be in /data/clockworkmod/virtual. Etc.
Of course, don't change anything in any of the folders in the root of the device until you know what you're doing, but don't be afraid to poke around and explore.
Thanks @1BadWolf for clarifying things further
Since GApps install in system partition, here are few questions:
1. How do I know the size of the system partition and available free space in it? I explored the the folders mentioned by you in the root explorer and got what you said. But couldn't find how to asses the size of the system partition.
2. How do I include few more apps in the GApps? For eg Gmail, GMaps, Airdroid, Sygic, Translate, Chrome etc are few apps which I always keep in my phone so I think its better to include them in the GApps. But how do I do that? Can I find original apk file of those apps somewhere?
3. If I include those apps in the GApps, will they continue getting updated from play store?
4. Can I re-flash new modified GApps on existing custom ROM I am currently having on system 1 without need of fresh install?

#1- If you're using Root Explorer just navigate to the /system folder. You'll see the amount of memory used and the amount available near the top of the screen. (See attached screenshot)
#2- I use Titanium Backup to convert certain apps to system apps then, also with TiBu, create a flashable zip with the apps. It's an extra zip to flash but only takes a few seconds to do it. If you just prefer to put them in with gapps, you can copy them with Root Explorer then insert them in the zip with ZArchiver . The TiBu method is better though because it'll even restore the app settings if you want it to.
#3-Yes.
#4-Yes.

Strangely its showing 354 MB used and only 123 MB free. Then I tried to see whats cache partition has consumed and it shows 44kb used, 288mb free (I am on ART). Data is showing 1.3gb used, 3.3gb free.
Where my rest of the internal memory has gone?
Right now I don't have any partition, neither the root explorer is showing clockworkmod folder anywhere!
EDIT : Well I explored bit more in the root explorer and found few more folders where its showing space consumption:
/preinstall : 15mb used, 260mb free
/dev : 136kb used, 420mb free.
/pds : 1.1 mb used, 2.8mb free
/data/tmp : 4.0kb used, 420mb free
vendor : 354mb used, 123mb free (showing title is system storage)
Any idea whats happening here?

O dear..i dont knw the reason of your struggle...But yes you can find Clockworkmod folder inside \root\Data folder
Just wipe out all systems and dont repartition the system 1 ever..just leave it as it is...without tinkering the System 1 partitions...
Can we start from the beginning ?? that will giv us a a better perspective of your issue
Answer me this question :
1) Which OS were you on SYSTEM 1 ?? JB Leak 3 or ICS ?
I was on JB Leak 3 ...
When i flashed JB Leak 3 on my phone.. It freed 6 GB internal space...If u r really bothered for internal memory just try this :
1) Flash JB Leak 3
2) Then install BMM
3) Activate System 2 ....
Now Format System 1 and install Any Kitkat ROM
DONT EVER TRY TO DELETE SYSTEM 1 PARTITIONS... JUST FORMAT WHEN REQUIRED
That shold give you 6.4 GB of internal space
Thanks for the replies.

Did you have 6 GB when you had ICS or GB?
How did you flash JB? Using BMM or any other way? I have become familiar with BMM and it looks easy to me. Please provide link of the threads I would need for flashing.

Yes..the Problem with MB865 indian version on ICS is we dont have access to the internal memory
When we flash to JB Leak 3...We are now accessible to Internal memory...After having JB Leak 3 on sys 1 .. . Any rom you install over Sys1 is going to give u access to all of the INTERNAL memory
Go to this thread for JB LEak 3 installation
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2092107
Or
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2093154
Root method is already posted in the thread
After you root check the internal space u get
Then install BMM according to the instructions
then flash kitkat . You are good to GO
P>S : This doesnt work on AT&T .... and You have to flash an SBF file via RSD Lite....Go through the complete instructions first
Here is a video for the same showing the whole installation process in case you are not used to RSD Flashing
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9p6GHpDX9qA
Go through this video all should be clear

Thanks swaggy123 for the links but now a confusion, I don't have stock ICS ROM on my phone and running a kitkat ROM in system 1. The flashing steps are for the stock ICS I think. How do I install the JB leak now over the current Kitkat? And my phone is already rooted, do I need to unroot it?
Another thing I noticed in the JB leak thread that the Motorola had removed webdock support in the their JB and I guess that webdock thing was consuming the extra space. Isn't there any other way to remove the webdock related things from the phone. Maybe we can free up the space if its possible to remove webdock things.

As for flashing thing, just do a normal fxz through rsd. Boot into fastboot mode and voila. Basically you'll get stock rom on your phone. So you need to root it if you want to embark on flashing custom roms. As for other things, nah. I'll leave to swaggy to answer btw, jb leak was never officially released to our device.

Actually I am not familiar with FXZ, neither I know whats RSD. And that fastboot? is that the boot menu which we get on stock phone by pressing volume+power buttons? How to get that back? And stock ROM? I am running Kitkat ROM right now and don't have stock ROM with me so how will I get the stock rom back? Or you mean flashing that JB leak ROM? But how exactly to flash that over a Kitkat ROM? There aren't any clear cut instructions, whichever are available seems like for PROs only.
I know only one thing - BMM, nothing else. Even I rooted my phone long ago after updating to official ICS :cyclops:
Try this for fxz to jb leak
its a great guide with pictures, all details like RSD, fastboot are given here

Ok .. i sense PANIC around here
You have got a valid question there....Even i am also not sure if we can try JB Leak 3 over custom ROMs running on System 1 ..because i never needed to FXZ...One thing for sure u can FXZ to ICS without any issue....
So i suggest first FXZ to ICS...then Flash JB Leak 3 according to the video i posted.....It works 100% i guarantee....
Once on JB Leak 3 on system 1 ...you can have the full bounty of 6.2 GB...
Thats all i can suggest...Sorry BRO it seems TEDIOUS....But nothing is simple with our A2...
And about removing Webtop FROM stock ICS...I dont think it will be possible....It will cause bootloop...I could be wrong as well...Because when its Atrix2 anything is possible :laugh:
And this definitely is not for pros my bro....I did all these when i knew nothing about my A2...absolutely nothing

What pro? swaggy and sameer are right. And oh. You might also want to refer to altered's thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1909319
Yes. That fastboot. And what do you mean how to get that back? You can just press the three buttons combination. Bmm just hijack in initial boot process. It is never been a replacement for stock recovery. Grab the jb leak file you want to flash. And follow the step in altered's thread. You can try swaggy method too. Of course which one is appear to be convenient for you. I've never tried it out. Yet. For some reason I'm sticking to ics. And I only use rsd method. You might want to snoop around this forum. Everything is in here. The reason we use rsd for flashing is because some key thing. And jb leak apparently meant to be released from motorola. Somehow I don't really remember it how the story goes

Dear ModaAli,
Have tried many Custom Roms (cm7, cm9.... till cm11 and also SuperOSR), on my HTC Chacha. Most of the Roms work, few are good and few have some bugs. All the mentioned ROMS are better in many aspects comparing to Stock but are not optimal bugfree or features when compare to Stock.
Thus, after reading a lot (doing since last 1 and half a year), finally, tried and build a MOD of stock rom with the help of DSIXDA Kitchan.
Primary aim was Stock (and Sense) features plus internal space. With the above Modded Rom, till date, I,m happy of the output. If you wish can provide you the link to that ROM. You can PM me for that.
My Rom is based on Stock (with Sense) Rom :
RUU : India 1.20.720.1
Android Version: 2.3.3 (Gingerbread)
Kernel: 2.6.35.10
Language Support: English
And is ..
Rooted
Init.d support
Busybox
and presently using it with INT2EXT (by CronMod) mod on a 768MB ext2 type partition. Thus have ample space to run WhatsApp, Viber, WSP Office, Rom Manager, Battery Meter, Twitter, Facebook, FX file manager and few more apps. But still have 300+ Mb internal memory free (which is actually ext-sd swapped with INT2EXT)

Further, flash the above with CWM after Factory Reset, Clear Dalvik (I prefer formatting Boot, System, Data & ext-sd before flashing any rom for best results). Let it boot once. Then partition and format your ext-sd with your choice of size (mine is 768MB) to ext2 type system. Then reboot and flash the INT2EXT.zip by CronMod. This will enable internal memory to the size of partition you have chosen.
Revert for any help and will try to provide the best what I can.

I tried several custom ROMs. One of the best concerning battery and memory usage was SuperOSR 2.5, but it's only Android 2.x.
For Android 4 i prefered CM 10.1 since you don't have much RAM with CM11.
However I changed back to the standard ROM now since I bought the Chacha because of its keyboard, and none of the custom ROMs had a good keyboard support. There even where problems when using the keys for dialing, re-dialing, entering numbers during a call, searching for apps in the list etc. Plus that you can't use your Facebook-Button (for flashlight in my case).
I don't even miss Android 4 - it seems that all apps I need are available for 2.3.5 so far. Latest apps will have problems with this screen anyway.

So is there a way to use this with sd card? I formatted ext2 has primary should I have made it a logical drive instead also have 100mb linux swap I think it's logical.
Also unrelated to the above is there any way to update to play store and play services to use hangouts or is 2.3 android stuck without play services? it downloads but says its not able to install. I said unrelated but maybe it is related to me using the ext2 as primary instead of logical...
BT carkit call problem...
This ROM is great but for me calls with my bluetooth carkit doesn't work.
I can pair devices, sync contacts, make a call but after that I hear only some noise.
Is there any fix or workaround?
thx

really its a good device for use roughly.
