[Q] No response from sensors until reboot.

My accelerometer and other various sensors stop responding randomly, making pretty much any app that requires them unusable, including games, anything with auto-rotate, the camera (photo spheres mostly) etc. All the sensors appear to fail at once and the only way to get them working again is a reboot. I'm stock, rooted, with franco kernel, and running Xposed with only gravitybox installed. I'm not sure exactly when this started so i'm not able to trace it to a particular app, but I don't think it would make much of a difference because I have tried restoring the system partition as well as removing Xposed and reverting to the stock kernel. I wasn't able to format /data and test because for some reason the nandroid backup failed when trying to back up the data partition. (not sure if this could be related...). Anyways I checked logcat and there doesn't seem to be anything helpful: there is no output at all when trying to auto-rotate etc. but I will continue troubleshooting... Does anyone know the best way to approach this or has had this happen before? This is weird and frustrating...

If a reboot fixes it, then it's probably a software side problem. Do you have the latest CWM verson? Try using TWRP to backup.

I am on stock at the moment. I decided to try wiping /data manually and reinstalling a few apps at a time to see if I can recreate the problem

As much of an effort as this is, it really is the best way to help identify the problem.

Do you use the barometer? It is a known bug that after some time the barometer and other sensors stop working.

Had the same problem using the app PressureNET. Uninstalled it and now everything is fine.

Same problem happened here around the time I installed some barometer reader. I will try to remember posting a follow up in about a week after just having deleted the app and rebooting.
Thanks so far for a possible candidate on what causes this and also thanks for starting a thread and mentioning the app used for verifying the sensor read outs.

After a clean wipe no problem until I re enabled my barometer widget...

Bug in OTA Android 5.0 - Setting crash

When I go to Settings -> "Data Usage" the application crash: "Unfortunately, Settings has stopped".
Someone have the same problem?

I'm on T-Mobile, and have not had a problem with looking at Data Usage. Try reflashing?

Per the thread title, he didn't flash the ROM but did the OTA.

Try going into recovery, wiping the cache partition and rebooting.
If that doesn't work, you might consider doing a factory reset.

I don't know why he said OTA, but I don't believe he got OTA - nobody as far as I know has got OTA till now.
Anyway, I don't experience this issue and I don't think this is a bug.

People have started getting the OTA hours ago. Right around the time the factory images came online...

OTA filename or link pleaaaase!
That way we can see if the crashing problem can be reproduced
Format cache & dalvik cache, see if that helps.

I have seen only 1 guy saying he got an OTA and he was a troll using Moto X.
Anyway, the only one that experiences this type of issue is OP and no one else so this is not a bug by default and this thread needs to be closed/deleted.

I also have a similar problem trying to access language and input. It crashes. Haven't checked data storage setting yet.
Another bug I found, at least for my nexus 7 2013, is for apps that are call-related. Skype, kakaotalk, groove ip, none of them receives voice input from the other side to my device, hence it's muted or screechy.. Skype abruptly ends when attempting video chat, and voice chat doesn't properly start either. Note this is mostly voice apps.
People probably shouldn't conclude it's "pointless" or not without understanding properly what's going on.

Try to enable the Google Keyboard.

again... i recently install lollipop 5.1 and when i try to open "DATA USAGE" on settings menu, the application shows "unfortunately the application has stopped"... i can't access to this menu
I dont remember how i fixed this problem when i had the same issue with 5.0..... Can anyone help me?
i try with:
- wipe cache
- reset factory
- clear cache of setting app
nothing works

I went to my carrier's office and ask for a new simcard, telling them that the actual was damaged and guess what, it worked!! I finally could use the data usage function!

[Q] Front camera problems, even in safe mode

Since a few days, I'm having troubles using my front camera. It all started after upgrading to 5.1.1 (and using SnapChat afterwards), but now I can't get rid of it.
When I switch to the front camera (in SnapChat, or in the standard camera app), the camera might switch to front camera and show the images for a few seconds, or it might not switch at all. After that, the screen gets frozen. Then, it depends: the screen just stays frozen, or turns green/blue/glitched, or I get a message that my camera can't be found.
This also happens in safe mode, with or without clearing cache & data, and also happens after a full reset, even after downgrading to 5.0.1 again.
What is strange, is that sometimes my camera app opens with front-face camera enabled, and then everything works fine. However, when I switch to my back camera (which always functions correctly) and then back to the front-face camera, then it's the same all over again.
I have googeled a lot, yet found no threads that exactly describe my situation. Most threads suggest trying the camera in safe mode and presume that it works in safe mode. Mine doesn't.
Does this sound like I need to return it (I still have waranty), or is it a software bug nonetheless?

be advised that there was a camera bug on 5.1 and below, so you should actually flash LMY48B factory image following the steps on the thread linked above.

I am currently on 5.1.1 (build LMY48B), flashed using the above methode (and even did another factory reset afterwards), yet the problem is not sobled.

Try to uninstall ANY apps that make use of the camera (except Google Camera/AOSP camera) and disable Trusted face on Smart Lock if you're using it.

Quick update: it was a hardware failure. A friend of mine had a quick look at my nexus 5, opened it up (he's in the repair business) and played a bit with the connector of the front camera, and everything works fine now.
So for those who are reading this: if you're like me, and are still having problems even in safe mode and after a factory reset, then a hardware failure might be the problem.

Listing Battery optimisation troubles (apps stop, after locking phone)

If you have apps that stop , when your screen goes black, manually (power button), automaticlly ( depends of your sleep settings), or after a notification.
But you have already desactivate the "close after screen locked option" for this app...
Please report here with your firmware and phone version, the apps affected and the one working well for you.
Settings pages Screenshots would be helpfull.
Maybe Honor could do something abou it...

I had the same problem with B381. I think, but not absolutely sure, problems started with update from emui 4 to emui 5 (I don't remenber the build version).
So, I have an app "Podcast addict", 80 percent of time when my phone screen goes black 3-4 sec after, the app stop playing, same problem after receiving a notification when listening... It s happening when I lock the screen, manually (power button), automaticlly (going to sleep mode after 2 min, or other setting), or after a notification.
I have desactivate the "close after screen locked option" for this app :

When I look at the "Battery settings" ( the gearing, up right), my app isn't in the "power intensive app history", and neither in "history of closed app" :

My temporary fix, not allways working : I hit play, manually lock the screen, unlock (fingerprint) and lock manually again... But still, when there is a notification 2-3 seconds after my app stop playing....

That might have been the solution all along. Remember I told u that I didn't have an issue like that. It turns out that for me chrome didn't have that option turned on.

Glad to hear it's working for you. I know how frustrated I was with Pocketcasts closing when the screen locked. It was just luck that I stumbled across this solution. Hopefully this solves your problem completely.

Video frame freezing

I was taking some video at a music gig I ran sound for last night and was having problems where the frame would freeze for like a second or two then catch up. Does this on the playback also does the same thing. My pixel 2xl didn't do this at all. Phone was keep stationary so wasn't like it couldn't keep up with motion or anything. Anyone else having this problem?

I just ran a test, recorded a 4 min video with no freezes. Curious if you had lots of apps loaded in memory, or if it was especially warm in that room. I checked and only had a couple of apps loaded. Just two things I thought of. Still would be very interested in what support says. I do sometimes take fairly long videos of music performances. Never had that issue on my previous phone either.

I would start no but also never had problems with my pixel 2xl a oneplus 6 or any other phones I've had in the past. I could do a factory reset and see if that's fixes it. I highly doubtful it will do anything

Called Google support and talked to a pixel 3 support guy. After trying a bunch stuff including clearing cache and app data. We were able to replicate the problem over the phone. He had my revert the stock camera app back to the original version when the phone was released and appears to be working fine. I will report back once I'm able to take more videos.

How did you revert back to a previous version of the camera app? Isn't the current Sep 5th update the same one the phone was released with?

Go to the settings page and find the camera app and click clear cache and data then click the disable button, this should uninstall and updates then if it doesn't take you the playstore then go too the playstore and find the Google camera app and go to the top right hand corner and click the drop down thing and uncheck the auto update function.
