Hi all, I just got my nexus 5 and right after I updated my system to Android 4.4.2, I tried to add widgets to the lockscreen, but it just doesn't work. I know you have to enable widgets under security in the settings and I did that. I just can't swipe left on the lockscreen to get that plus sign. Also dashclock doesn't work. Help! Any idea is much appreciated.

I find that I have to really swipe from the edge of the screen, some cases may prevent this or make it difficult.

Oh my god thank you so much! I didn't realize that... I had a case on so that explains... Yes i totally agree we are to really swipe from the edge. Thank you so much!
You have to expand the widget first. Just drag the clock widget downwards. When its expanded, try swiping your screen. It should work.

Thank you! I just figured that out...
Word/Text clock lockscreen widget ?
Is there such a widget for a lockscreen, which would display a clock / time written in words ?? Like the clock face one on Pebble smart watch, for example?!
Example, the time is 5:36 and on the widget it would be displayed as "five thirty six" !
Thanks

Hi,
I'm running CM7 and I've got widgetlocker as my lockscreen, and I'd like to add the torch widget to the lockscreen. It doesn't really fit in though so I'd like to make it invisible; i.e you can't see the widget but if you press in the right place (where it is) it will still function as normal.
Can this be done?
Thanks

Invisible Widget

I recently discovered how to make an invisible widget that has been incredibly useful in customizing my screens. For instance, my weather app is Snowstorm because I like how the widget looks. But, I like Weatherbug for functionality, weather radar, etc. So, I've got the snowstorm widget on my screen with an invisible widget overlayed and set to front so when i click on it, it sends me to Weatherbug.
This is done my creating an icon using Simple Text. The text in the icon is just a couple of spacebar taps. It saves to your gallery. Then I used Desktop VisualizeR to create a widget that is assigned to the Weatherbug app. Assign the invisible icon you created to the widget and you are ready to go. Very useful to have a visual of one app and the functionality of another. You can even create it so you just tap on a blank portion of your screen to activate whatever app or function you want. It's fun!
Good luck. :good:
Maybe use gimp and just make it transparent

I hope I'm just doing something stupid ...
I can't add most widgets I've downloaded to my lock screen on my Nexus 5 ... though they all work fine adding to my home screen. Only a few (like Android Weather) are available when hit the "plus" on a blank lockscreen.
All I want is a brightness widget that can make the display bright so I can properly put in my password in bright sunlight (I never set my brightness to auto, it's too annoying for me).
ie. Power Widget lite would be perfect for my needs!
Any one having the same problem? Any ideas?
I have the same problem. Wanted to add some beautiful clock widget to homescreen (don't remember exactly which one), downloaded, installed, went to add to homescreen - no luck.
Why can't you get something like power toggles. Then you could pull down notification bar on lockscreen and toggle brightness to what you wanted. An extra step I know

I can add everything I've downloaded add to homescreen. But almost none can be added to my lockscreens. That's my problem.

Very cool app, thanks for pointing it out. But ... I can't pull down the notification bar when the phone is locked ... how are you able to?
you add widgets on your lockscreen by enabling them in security. there's a checkbox that says "enable widgets"

Yep, did that. The thing is only SOME can be added. Very few that I've downloaded (even though they all seem to work on home screens).

Wow AWESOME app! That's exactly what I need! I was looking for a bunch of widgets on one row, which the lockscreen doesn't even seem to allow, but this widget already let me configure everything I needed in one row of buttons.
It turns out that THIS widget CAN be placed on the lockscreen (I'm not talking about the one visible in the notification bar, I can only access that when the phone's already unlocked).
BUT ... I still want to know why most widgets can't get placed on the lockscreen to begin with. Are they not Android 4.4-lockscreen-compatible yet?

The widgets have to be enabled to work on the lock screen by the developer.

Aha! Didn't expect that widgets needed special lock screen support.
So there's home screen widgets, lock screen widgets, notification bar widgets, ... I wonder what other classes of apps I'm missing - widget widgets? It would be nice if Google Play Store could search based on widget class.
I have just installed the Android 4.4.2 KitKat Resurrection Remix rom.
All working just fine, still getting used to it.
One question?
Only two options of weather apps available for the Lock Screen.
Yahoo and openweathermap
I would like to use the BBC weather map if possible.
Question is it possible and if so how do I show it.
Cheers

I have the BBC app / widget on but cannot find any way to add it to the lock screen.
The option to customise lock screen weather gives only the two options I mentioned above.
Update
I found the way to add the weather widget to a side screen from the lock screen but that is not actually what I wanted.
I would like to change the weather widget on the lock screen if possible.

You need to set "Custom widgets" on lockscreen. Then you long press on the actual widget and delete it. Then you can add your preferred widget.

Thanks for that.
Tried your suggestion and although I have the Custom Widget turned on I am unable to get the option to remove the weather from the lock screen.
I can with this Rom, de-select the weather widget on lock screen in settings to remove it.
Still no way to add my own selection to lock screen.
I can add a new screen to the side of the lock screen but that's not what I wanted.

That did the trick although it doesn't look very good due to the length of our village name.
But it works a treat otherwise.
Much appreciated :good:
I played with a galaxy s6 and was really impressed with the new touchwiz, but one thing that I really didn't like is that I wasn't able to swipe between tabs on the dialer, contacts app, the clock ( I'm not sure about the clock, I played with the phone briefly) , to me that's a real bummer because that's something I really love from Android since ics , is there an option to turn it on or it simply not present on the stock Samsung apps?

I actually have an S5 (still on KK thanks to ATT) but the dialer/contact app has never had this swipe ability. I think it is because you can swipe the names of contacts to message or call them (depending on the direction of the swipe) already, so swiping to change tabs would be hard to impliment with the TW swiping. But my clock app does have the swipe to change to tab function, as the the settings app when set to tab view. Hope this helps

Actually no! I just looked in the contacts settings and if you disable the TW swiping you can swipe to change tabs. I don't see why this wouldn't be the case on the S6 as well.

Yes, this is right, tested a S6 in the shop and verified that S6 has the options in contact settings to enable swipe to message/call and if you disable this, you can swipe tabs from dialer to logs to favorites to contacts....not possible to have both running in parallel

Awesome! Thanks for clearing that up guys! One concern less, now I just have to deal with the convoluted notification bar and the ugly settings menu but oh well it's leaps and bounds better than the old version of touchwiz

Actually "the convoluted notification bar and the ugly settings menu" changes with the theme you apply from the new theme settings or store.

Thanks for pointing that out! I just checked a video showing the themes and it really changes the icons, the notification bar and the look of the settings, I could even try to make a theme to make it look more like stock lollipop, that would be awesome!
Im wanting to edit my lockscreen kind of like we already edit our homescreen. In particular im looking to get my agenda and a snapshot of the weather on the lockscreen. Is this possible? If so how, oh and im not looking to use a launcher as i like the layout and feel of touch wiz. Thanks
You can't without root. Some manufacturers (e.g. HTC) will have weather info etc. on their lock screens natively, but Samsung doesn't unfortunately.
Well thats stupid! Okay option two/three. Any good lockscreen apps that replace existing lockscreen that dont lag? Or any launchers that sill allow me to keep my own theme and app style and layout but allow me to customize the lockscreen?

I don't know of any lock screen apps off the top of my head because I never use any, but I know they're on the Play Store, so just do a search and see which one would probably fit your needs. Also, the launcher and lock screen are two different things, so installing a custom launcher just affects the home screen and app drawer.

I always used AcDisplay on my past android phones. I haven't set it up on my S7, so I don't honestly recall all the features, but I always liked it so that's a good place to start.
May just be for notifications but I really can't remember.
Try hi locker it uses the fingerprint scanner has good media and notifications has calendar and weather as well
