I rooted my phone and my wife's. She's been hiding things and deleting messages and sending off pics of herflself and deleting them. I tried using a recovery app. But is there something that I can install on her phone that's will stay hidden so I can monitor what it is she is up to? Something that will save the text logs and pictures. Or activate her front facing camera. GPS... I want to make sure I have all the evidence I would need to confront her. This happened in the past as well and I didn't have enough proof. She played it off like I was the crazy one.
I've searched but figured some experts would point me in the right direction. Hoping to save my marrage before its too late.
Thanks.
Well for finding old picrures, theres diskdigger app. Uhm... Besides that, idk

I used dr phone and it took so long and it kept showing all the current pics and not just the deleted ones . wasn't until I used discdigger that I found what I was looking for. but being the free version it didn't search for much. and hard to view everything ion the little screen, and it requires me to have her phone for long periods of time.
I know there has to be something out there I can install once and get the info sent to my phone or pc.
since I only have small windows of time to have her phone(when shes sleeping) I practice on my phone. install what apps I wanty to use and try them so I know what it is im doing when I get the chance.
a keylogger would be a start but I want to know what texts are coming in as well.
I'm not sure if this is what you are looking for, but recently when my phone broke and I still had to text people; I went to the Verizon wireless website, under 'My Verizon' is a tab called 'Send a message', enter your wife's phone number followed by her account password, and then it should be empty if this is the first time opening this. From here you can send and receive messages. After your initial login, all messages will be stored. It shows deleted as well. Finally, if you do happen to send a text from this online, sent messages will not show on her phone. Beware as she will still receive the incoming texts.
-Hope this helped! Good luck with your searching

Hey
So a friend of mine lost his phone. He texted me asking for help on retrieving it.
I obviously thought of Plan B. But the problem is that he signed into the same Gmail account on two phones so plan b may not go to the right phone.
Will resetting the new phone allow plan b to go to the lost pphone?
Any ideas?
Plan B will probably work of you just remove the Google account from the second phone, rather than resetting it.

When you click install...
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lookout.labs.planb&hl=en
It gives you the option of which phone to install it to. The phone list is in chronological order. Send it to both if you have to. You will get 2 locations in your Gmail as long as your friends Gmail is still logged in. Obviously you'll know which one is the right one.
Thanks. I installed it remotely.
However Plan B still hasn't sent me a location.
Any ideas on imei tracking?

When I log in, it still gives me the option to install to all my previous phones. They are all listed and I know I logged out.
Maybe whoever found the found already wiped it. Since that Gmail is no longer associated with that phone, the install won't go through. It just gets lost in cyber space.
Once the lost phone is reset / wiped. Chances of locating it slim down. I hope someone turns it in for your friend. Good luck.
Got this phone a week ago and I've sent a bunch of pictures to people through MMS. I've just now learned that none of those pictures were ever received. I don't get any sort of error message; it seems to send just fine. But when I ask if they received the pics, they always say no.
And no, this isn't the problem with 8MP pictures taken with the camera that won't compress properly with the stock Messaging app. This includes smaller pictures about 500KB in size. I have also tried alternative apps such as GO SMS Pro with no success.
I have another issue with receiving MMS messages. I do receive pictures, but they only open as a weird 5-second slideshow as if it's a video file. The only way to view the full size is to download the file and then go to the Gallery app.
Any ideas?
I have an issue with ppl receiving my mms. My issue is that they get the pic like 24-36 hours later

I've had similar issues too, particularly with sending MMS to my friends with iPhones. I've sent group messages which didn't deliver at all, and I've sent pictures which took hours upon hours to send, but when I sent my brother a picture on his old flip phone, he got it within seconds.
strange... I never had any issue.
Actually, I just tried doing some debugging a few hours ago sending MMS to my family, and I even tried using 3rd party messaging software, but still no luck. They just don't want to send.

I've never had any problem either.
I know this isn't helpful (& I hate when other people respond like this) but maybe something in the way my phone is setup is working a little differently.
I got my phone from a pre-order & on the very first boot I rooted it etc. When the root66 ROM was released, I completely wiped everything & flashed the ROM fresh.
I use Handcent, but the stock MMS/SMS app works fine also (I just tried it). Other than flashing that ROM, all I have done is remove or freeze all the Verizon bloatware & everything works perfectly (& it's fast as hell also)
I've been having this issue ever since I bought it, including stock and root66 roms. I've tried using the stock messenger, Go SMS, and also the closest thing to the AOSP messenger I could find on the market, all with the same problem.
That message I sent out to my family when trying to debug it, they finally got it... around 12 hours later.
I just tried it again tonight, and it seems to be working fine, so it seems to be an intermittent issue. I've sent out 3 or 4 that took ours, and I've sent 2 or 3 that delivered immediately. And as far as when I was testing, same exact picture, same exact text, one took 12 hours, the other instant. It couldn't possibly be an issue with coverage, I've got 4G and almost full bars everywhere, plus I'm connected to wifi.
If you've got any clue as to what setting we may have accidentally changed, please do share because I haven't a clue (and tbh, there's not a lot to customize in the stock app)
Boy that really is strange, I haven't had the problem myself but maybe I just haven't used MMS enough to run into it.
So i originally had my phone rooted, but after a couple months of having my phone bother me about updating, i decided to do it. Needless to say, I lost root. I was planning on rooting it again, but my phone got knocked out of my hand and fell, cracking the screen and making it useless (no more touch and screen won't power on). So now i'm trying to pull my contacts and my text messages from the phone, but since it's not rooted, I can't figure out a way to do it. Also, i tried going through adb, but it keeps saying "device not found", even though my phone still powers up and works (I can tell because I keep getting text messages and my phone rings. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can get my information off the phone and on my pc? I've also tried using 'MyPhoneExplorer', but it can't find my phone either.
Your contacts will be backed up to your Google Account, but not your texts unfortunately

I've used this app for years:
SMS Backup and Restore
It doesn't back up MMS though (picture messages). You can manually save any pics sent to you via text to your SD card using every text app I've seen, including the stock ones. That said, I suspect by now there are apps that will back up MMS.
Looks like the stock Messaging app can save text messages as well....
Hi, i have found a file called smartcall on my phone. When you click on it it goes to my Microsoft word documents. I've noticed over the last three or four weeks I've had notifications by e-mail that someone has tryed to get into my Microsoft account. I have no idea how it got on my phone or what its for?? A really strange thing happened to me on the 12th.Jan. Two friends of mine plus my dad were sent text messages of some photos of me that were taken from my CM security which takes snapshots of people trying to get into your phone/tablet etc. Well sometimes I put the code in wrong more than three times and takes a pic of me. Someone has managed to get hold of those pictures and sent them via text. Also there were a couple of map references showing where i live saying I need help!! Can anyone please tell me what's going on here. I have explained to my phone providers that it wasn't me who sent the texts. Even though it showed my mb number it wasn't me as my phone was completely broken. It's all very bizarre and scary.
Hi guys!
Tried the search but came up with nothing so here goes...
I must admit I'm not very tech savvy but I can follow instructions no worries
I joined mainly because my Samsung Galaxy S8+ (un-rooted) started to behave very strangely early this year.
(and I want to trick it up after warranty expires in August ?)
Short story is that my Samsung account got hacked (or it at least seems like it) and the perp was then able to control my phone remotely. It was incredible watching my phone do as it pleased and all I could do was sit back and watch. Funny thing is that I've never actually toggled the RC switch (find my phone)...
My local carrier (Telstra Bigpond - Australia) account as well as my Google account got taken over shortly after. This would have given whoever it was access to my 3 cloud accounts which add you can appreciate would contain some sensitive material.
Whoever is responsible could well be a member on here so "Hi, there!! "
I pulled my sim and sd card and switched the phone off so I could decide what to do next.
I got a password manager app, changed all passwords (lucky my partner had a spare iPhone 5S sitting around up I could get online) and factory reset the phone.
All seemed to be going well until a few days ago...
I got "timed out" on my Samsung account (is that even possible?!) and while I was putting the password in (on the Samsung website - silly mistake!) just as I hit next I noticed a few dots in a square pattern that did a spinning type of graphic over the password entry box.
Continuing onto the next screen where the two step verification was, which was to send a text to my phone to receive a code and bang! Before I even received the text a six digit code appears in the fill box on the screen (same spinning dots in a square pattern) right before my eyes and then I receive the text afterwards! The numbers matched!!
I’ve also been asked to enter my Google credentials on more than one occasion lately from being “signed out”...
I don't know what to do!
I've tried all of the popular virus type apps and a few file managers to no avail. More like I've been hacked than a virus?
I've removed apps and shut down almost all of them as well as toggling between mobile data and WiFi and restored the phone twice back to earlier backups from over 6 months ago.
I've only ever downloaded from the Play Store apart from just the once getting your better version of the Play Store XDA (LABS) app.
What might be noteworthy is when I was using Google's help function it said that I had a "modified Android" and to contact manufacturer. I can guarantee the phone has never been cracked open.
I can provide screen shots from DevCheck (FLAR2) but I really don't know what I'm looking at. I also don't have any unknown apps etc...
I really don't know what to do next...
Any advice please??
Sorry about the long post.
All the best,
Crackles
Took phone to Samsung and they wiped the device and installed current (Android Pie 9 w. Feb 01 security update) so was looking forward to having a play with the new os until I went to add my Samsung account details...
Entered the password then the 2-step security kicked in to send a text to my number.
The earlier 4 circling dots dropped the 6 digit code into the fill box before I even received the sms! Device (on it's own jumped straight to the remote control button in the Find my Device security section) then attempted to change the password!
Only thing that prevented that from being carried out was I had biometrics activated and stopped the action using my fingerprint.
Seriously no one has any idea on what to do?!
I also had installed a replacement sim card.
I also can't uninstall updates on certain apps like Google Play Services etc, and some apps either have a dead link (press it and nothing happens) or Play Store can't find the app when I hit the downloaded from Play Store thingy at the bottom of the app description page. Hope that makes sense.
As you said, they wiped the phone, which means they most likely flashed the whole firmware, so there's no way for any malware to remain installed. But for what it's worth, you can try to re-flash the firmware yourself using Oding to make sure the whole flash is clean.
If your phone really was infected with any kind of malware, it must have been a 3-rd party app you have (repeatedly) installed. Some apps like Google Play Services cannot be uninstalled because they are vital for system's (or rather apps installed from Play Store) propper functioning.
Also, even if you had infected your device, it would not be able to take control of your device to the extent you described because of app sandboxing, which cannot be broken unless the app constitutes itself as a system app (because every part of the system has to be cryptographically signed, this would break the boot and brick your device) or the user (you) would have to allow the app the necessary permissions to carry out these tasks.
Hey Kernel thanks for the reply ?
Yes I know what I'm saying sounds crazy and even the missus said I was nuts till I showed her.
I can't screen record any more either...
I'm noticing odd little things like when I pull the notifications screen down for a second or so the NFC, Bluetooth and nearby icons are lit up but then revert back to a if they were off. I've switched all of these items off in the settings so are they being sneaky?
So far nothing really bad has happened apart from not being able to put my credentials into the PayPal app. That's using both Last Pass auto-fill and manually entering the email and password. I've un-installed and re-installed many times and it's the same. I'm not going to add any banking apps just yet.
Facebook also got installed in the background about 4 times within a few minutes. Seemed odd to me. I think I've got a screenshot of that.
Malwarebytes found an issue with I'm guessing a theme I got from the Samsung Galaxy Store so I removed it, chose another and it seems OK.
There's still a few odd things happening like certain settings reverting back to something different from what I'd set.
I'll keep tinkering and post anything that stands out.
Is there an app or something that can check every file on my phone and tell if something isn't quite right?
I don't have a pc at the moment but when I do I'll look into Odin.
Thanks again for taking the time I know I sound like a lunatic and tbh I really wish I was haha!!
Hmm interesting...
When I tried to upload the screenshot it stopped and said "bad request"...

Could all this weird bs be happening if the home WiFi has been hijacked?
Sorry for dumb questions.

Whatsapp does the same thing, autocompletes the code, before de sms is coming. This is not a malware. But, don't use password manager... Those can be hacked.
Really my password manager can be hacked?!
I'm using Last Pass.
So moving on I started to poke around the WiFi router and found the PnP enabled and my device was sharing with another device. I did not authorise this. I've since reset the router, changed the pin and access code, disabled the WPS and also factory reset the device that was "sharing" with mine... The owner of said device no longer lives with me. I'm just glad I confiscated the phone from him before he left.
When I'm researching possibilities of what could be going on with my phone the pages won't load. It's like my searches are being monitored and the data is being stopped. I tested this with my partner's phone (on mobile data) and the exact Web pages loaded right up on her's without a hitch! I tried again on mine and they just stopped. Pages would load straight away on mine if searching for something completely different like rc cars or bmx related content. Stuff to do with my phone just won't work ffs!
Like when I tried my first post on here. It simply would not post it up! I ended up having to copy/paste the draft and emailing it to another account that I made up on the spot on her phone. Hence the two usernames in this thread.
I got the 3C TOOLBOX app and in the app management section, Task Manager under service many of them are "custom entries" and I cannot un-tick, modify or reset back to the original version of any of these apps. Google Play Services was the worst. Pretty much every thing it was capable of doing had a "custom action" and I could not do anything with it.
Am I doing something wrong or do I have a serious invasion of my phone..?
Thinking about smashing this thing to bits and getting an S10+ ??
Also the Bluetooth, NFC & Nearby buttons almost any me of the day/night are on for a split second when I drag the motivation panel down. These are all set to "OFF" in settings...
What
The
F--k?!?!?!
