Automate Tasks - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey Everybody,
Basically I want my phone to connect to the WiFi when in certain locations (eg. Home, friends house), and disable WiFi when out and about. Same goes for when I'm not at home for mobile data. I want it to enable mobile data when I'm out and disable WiFi when I'm out. I've tried a few apps, like tasker, but it was too advanced for me. Also I've tried condi, but it didn't work too well. Any alternatives you guys have? Thanks in advance. <3

Trigger is a good app. You might have to pay for the full version to get location based stuff though but it was worth it for me. There is also Llama location profiles that I havent used in a long time but it worked good when I had it.

Tasker, Baby! It was too hard in the beginning for me too, but I stuck it out, and now, couldn't live without it.

^This.
I can second that it's hard in the beginning but after a while it gets better and there's so much you can do with it!

I think there's an app called better wifi which has options like u want

The Ultimate Noob Guide

Llama is easy to set up and free for all features. Uses cell tower locations by default so it won't use any battery even for location based tasks.

Tasker: How to use it with viper smart start? (NOOB)

Hello all,
so i have no idea how to use tasker. I have a Droid Maxx unrooted and i want to be able to put an icon on my home screen to lock/unlock and start my car. How do i do this with tasker? All i can get it to do so far is open the app.
Thanks for the help,
Eric
I would also love to see a way to automate the auto start.
I would be willing to pay for this or an App-Factory created app that will let me use the new Google Now API and auto-voice with my Moto X to say "OK Google Now, start my car".
I can't figure out how to get tasker to simulate the button press within the app.
If anyone would like to make some money, they can PM me and we can work out the details.
my 2 cents
Why dont you just to the autovoice profile ---Load app, input tab command, wait 2 seconds kill app..
seems to me the way to go

OK I am al so a noob but I guess this video should help just replace Pebble watch with the Viper app and instead of Autovoice create a profile with time and date state https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0NiOoSZz3oA&feature=youtube_gdata_player

[Q] What to do with my old Old Nexus S4g

I have a old Nexus s 4g from sprint that I was thinking about turning into a smart MP3 player and totally removing the phone abilities and giving it to my son. Anybody know a easy way of doing this? ROM ideas?
Thanks

You have to be rooted to remove system apps...
Yep, the last three phones have been rooted day 1 of each. I just would have thought more needed to be done than just uninstalling the phone apps.
I heard Voodoo sound can improve the sound quality, might try to install it.

Thanks for making this haha, I don't have enough posts to comment in Dev forums and have been wanting to ask/comment about issues so far, thankfull most of them have been asked by others by now.
But, if anyone happens to know, is there an issue with ART and Gmail, I tried the working gapps, and most things seemed to work, but a few apps, including gmail were non-functional.

If you got ART working that's amazing. Didn't work for me. Fc's everywhere and wouldn't work at all. It's not operational at this point
does it work with any version of twrp?
Read the install instructions in Android dev. Cwm 6.0.4.3 I believe. Cheers

You're right!
I wonder how much time it'll take for it to leave alpha state! I'm not asking for ETA, just wondering.
And the ROM is really good. I mean I took photos, made phone calls, did some texting with Hangout, configured and tested almost every essential apps I use on regular basis and I did not encounter a single major issue.
Did not test Bluetooth and tethering. LTE not working but I'm pretty sure someone will fix it!
Missing some customization options which will come when it will be more "mature" and every builders will begin adding their touch!
Thanks to everyone making this possible!! \m/ :good:

App Ops on Kit Kat?

So, I tried to install the permission manager app from the play store for 4.3 and it didn't work, how can we manage app permissions on 4.4?

Google have blocked access to it in 4.4 so the built-in app is no longer available.
Coming from CM10.2 I was hoping to at least be able to use this with my N5, but alas it's not so .

Wait... They removed the feature that they just added to the last version? Or they removed the old method of enabling it?

I believe they blocked the APIs used by the permissions editor which is why it crashes - but I'm struggling to find the reference I read that had this info.......
afaik they removed it completely. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47098228&postcount=2
One of the best features ever introduced to android and they remove it. Might even downgrade my N7 because of this.

I downgraded my N4 back to 4.3. Disabling app ops is terrible. Even apple has this feature: iOS alerts you if any app wants to access your contacts, or your photos, or your camera, and you have a choice to allow or not. Android 4.3 does not alert you, but at least you have the option to dig into the App Ops and revoke access to certain things. 4.4 is the first time an android upgrade dissapointed me (they destroyed the alarm app, the keyboard, the wifi indicator's activity/internet access, and App Ops).
App ops was never an official feature, so they technically didn't remove anything.

good god, why do the Googlers always have to find every disappointment thread to defend their master. Let me guess, you think the Google+ enforcement on youtube is awesome too?

So? It's still a feature they included, with easy access, and then took away even though it was nothing but effective for the users...

I'm with you on the users defending Google like the can do no wrong, but definitely disagree about the YouTube g+ integration... They needed to clean YouTube up, and now I can see friend's comments on videos more easily and only view the comments and responses of certain people... That was a good idea..
I think Google is completely wrong by blocking this app ops function, if that's what happened here...

Does anyone know where these preferences are stored? I'm mainly concerned with whether or not changing the options will affect an OTA update. If nothing is altered in the system files I'm sure we're good to go.
