Some people have reported luck with "disk digger" from play but I remain sceptical.

Im trying to follow OPs tutorial but am stuck on step 5
"Open a Cygwin terminal and enter (This assumes your BusyBox installation is at [/system/bin/busybox]. It may be at [/system/xbin/busybox]):"
My Nexus 5 is connected as adb as seen below

But when i open a Cygwin terminal, it says command not found.
Also, i dont know for sure if i did the requirement "ADB (make sure adb.exe is in your path)," correctly. I have just pasted everything in the sdk>platform tools directory into the C:\cygwin64

recovery software wont work because of MTP. in order for that kind of software to work you need to be in USB mass storage mode, which is impossible on the N5. if you dont have any luck with disk digger, then theres pretty much nothing else you can do

Is cygwin in the exact same folder as adb? If so and adb still not found, try dropping adb into c:\windows\system32 folder and reboot

Caveats: I have never done this; I don't have the tools in front of me to even try it myself.
That said it looks like you're having path issues -- you should *not* copy adb.exe and the other platform-tools into your cygwin directory. When the referenced HOWTO says to make sure adb.exe is in your path, they mean that your PATH environment variable should include its directory. The simplest way to do that is to edit your user PATH variable and tack ";c:\users\.......\sdk\platform-tools" on the end -- get the full path that you used in your very first screenshot, where "adb devices" worked for you.
Then, log out and back in to make sure the new variable takes effect. You should be able to start a cygwin terminal and run "adb devices" just the same as from your Windows command prompt.

ok....so even if i use ncat in the 2nd window, still no luck.
Also, please see that in the first window it says "nc: invalid option -- 1". is this normal?

No. I don't think you want the flag to be a digit *one*, you want a lower-case L. It means "listen" -- you're running a "server" on your phone that will execute the dd (disk-dump or data-dump) command and output its results to whoever connects to the open socket. You're getting a 0-byte file because the command on your client side (i.e. the computer) doesn't actually connect to anything.

To apply just unzip the contents of the package below into the tools folder of the android sdk
How-to Enter fastboot mode .... While the phone is off hold down "Volume down key" and then "power button" hold both till you get a white screen with the androids and skateboards
to confirm your device is seen by adb use this command
Code:
fastboot devices
you should see your phone listed under the command you just typed. After that type the next command to flash the splash image
Code:
fastboot flash splash1 splash1.nb
Then you should see that it was successful and rebbot the phone and preview your new image by typing
Code:
fastboot reboot
Please Thank and post comments as needed, if there is any trouble i'll try to help if i can i'm rather busy lately...lol
There was a huge thread on how to change splash with win 7 and I am stuck in osx thanks for a tut on how to to it in fastboot
Thanks! I followed the instructions and applied it no problem. Makes booting up look seamless with Fresh's bootscreen
So I have been having nothing but problems with Sync, so have rooted, flashed and changed boot image by using a root file manager (which all have worked fine).
Where on the EVO is the splash screen logo located, so I can just manually apply it?
Thank you

I'm 99.9% sure that this image cannot be simply replaced in a folder but must be flashed, at least that's how it was for winmo
If you think about it this is where the carrier brands the phone the most, im pretty positive this is flashed to a specific partition
Am I missing something? I do everything step by step and it won't find fastboot command in the terminal (using OS X). I can't do anything.

Hmm that's too bad. My Vista sees my EVO, but it has an exclamation mark and the driver won't initialize no matter what I try.
Guess I'll wait till some other time then

Is there a way to flash from the EVO itself? I can copy files with no problem if I connect as a HDD.
add this file to the tools folder of android sdk or i think in OS x anywhere works as long as you direct the command line to it

No it is in fastboot
From what I gather a lot of people have this issue with Vista 32bit and HTC Sync. I haven't been able to track down a solution. Even when trying to use Sync..it always just errors and says:
Unable to find HTC Sync on your PC. Please make sure.....
Kind of a pain, but so far I have been able to do everyting I want just doing it from the phone with files copied over. Using the terminal emu or file manager

[GUIDE] How to do a FULL low level backup of your Android Device

This Guide is simple and is straight the point, but is helpful and may come in handy for those who experience a hard-bricked phone or missing file in your phone like I did. Basically, nandroid is not a FULL backup, it only backs up your system, data, sd-secure, and boot partitions. A low level backup does every partition on your phone (even low level ones) and puts it on your sdcard. Now note that a full backup can create quite a large backup size total.
Credits to XDA user closeone for teaching me how to do this:
In a terminal emulator app perform this command in your terminal:
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0 of=/sdcard/mmcblk0.img
(Quoted from closeone)
That command is a disk to file command with the parameter if (Input file) of mmcblk0 (the entire device) and the parameter of (output file) to the SD Card as a file called mmcblk0.img
Click to collapse
the "0" basically says "the whole phone" and as such backs it up. This will back up your radios, system, data, and every other partition you didnt even know existed in your phone.
I have been around android for a long time, but I did not know this, I hope this helps someone.
A couple of things you should mention: you're not responsible for any issues which may or may not arise or user errors.
Secondly, if the if= and the of= get reversed, well it would overwrite the phone's info, at least to the point DD can't run or encounters an error and stops.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
How do you restore this back to the device?
and if this restores without an issue, this might be a solution to the infamous ICS Brick bug in Samsung Galaxy Note and Galaxy SII.
Reverse the if= and the of= "if" is input file "of" output file. Think of this as being similar to making an ISO of a CD or DVD. And depending on what utilities are available and how the device is recognized, it could be a solution. If the device is recognized by a program which can flash .img files, for example for my phone we have nvflash which can. CWM can also be scripted to write them.

I am not sure about the reverse... a working file system needs to be remounted as read+write before it can be overwritten. I am guessing this COULD be done in recovery mode using adb shell but still quite risky. If anything, I have a feeling it can hardbrick the device unless the boot and recovery partitions are left untouched. Comments?
Thank you, this is what I was looking for!
I want to encrypt my device, thus I won´t be able to backup with Clockworkmod afterwards.
Does this command also backup /sdcard1? That would be odd somehow, because you cannot write the backup to a partition you are just about to backup itself...
How can I issue this command with adb?
I would like to connect my device to my Linux workstation, use adb to issue the backup command and write the backup to my local harddrive. How could I do that with adb?
Best regards

Wow talk about a blast from the past lol. Honestly man I left the dev scene for about a good year and some months up until.... two days ago lol, so I'm rusty as all get out. I'd have to get back on my stuff to answer it for you to be honest. Even at the time of my creating this, I didn't necessarily KNOW how to do it, closeone just taught me how and I felt like this could have possibly saved someone from a potentially disastrous encounter, I wasn't knowledgeable enough to tell you much is what I'm trying to say.
I have a generic rooted tablet and im unable to find a custom recovery and i want to send my rom to a dev who can or want to made cwm/twrp for me, so this is my question: is it a safe way to copy my actual rom? Im asking that cuz im scared to brick my tablet. Thanks

dd is a Linux command, so you should do adb shell from your Windows Command Prompt. Obviously abd should be installed beforehand.

I know I have to run the bat file but you asked me a screen of the folder
I have this message:
strange... idunno for me its working well (windows 7 pro) and the boot.img is in the same directory... do you have some antivirus, anti spam apps running?
A other member of Frandroid forum has exactly the same issue. But he is running W8.1
That is really strange.
I am running win 8.1 as well
POThe only thing I can suggest is to change the line
fastboot -i 0x1bbb boot boot.img
to (in your specific case)
c:\users\user\desktop\idol3_6045_root\fastboot -i 0x1bbb boot c:\users\user\desktop\idol3_6045_root\boot.img
and see what occurs.
I'm thinking you may have fastboot somewhere else on your computer as well and that somehow, it's looking in the local directory of that fastboot. While that goes against everything logical (local directory should always be checked first), I'd give that a shot.
If that still doesn't work, open the cmd.exe with elevated permissions (right click "command prompt" in start menu, and run as administrator)
The problem seems to be resolved by using Windows 7 instead.
http://forum.frandroid.com/topic/223905-tuto-root-de-l-idol-3-55/?p=3417628
using win 7 is not a solution... there have to be a way how to do it, because there are thousands of users with win 8.1 who using fastboot and adb commands...
Is it a drivers issue? Does "adb devices" return anything? Or "fastboot devices" if you're in the bootloader? If you don't get a device listed after executing that command, the OS isn't fully recognizing the Icon 3.
I've all but abandoned using Windows for interaction with my Android devices. The driver issues are too big a pain in the butt. With Mac, and no need for installing drivers, the only issue is the occasional usb cable that doesn't work well. I don't mean that as a Mac is better than Windows thing. I use both and am not into these kinds of battles. But it is easier on Mac in this case.
OP, have you tried this with a different USB cable?
is your bootloader unlocked?
And I take it you've enabled Developer Options and USB Debugging?
After all my talk about the ease of communicating with Android devices from a Mac, I'm now unable to successfully issue fastboot commands when in the bootloader. I've tried using sudo, making sure to include arguments that address the device, etc. I can execute adb commands when the phone's system is booted, though. But fastboot commands either get me a "waiting for device" or nothing at all. I thought I was able to do this successfully yesterday, when I was just testing it out. Today, I was going to root by booting into TWRP and flashing SuperSU.

Need Help Dump Partition And Recovering Application Database on Moto G XT1033

Hello, I'm sorry if my english was bad since its not my native language .
Recently I accidentally clear data of naver line applications and now I'm trying to recover the apps database since all my naver line contacts were gone, I already try using the method provided on this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...de-internal-memory-data-recovery-yes-t1994705 it gives me 0 bytes of raw data, all step by step including using cygwin 32bit still 0 bytes, so is there any other way to image the userdata partition? Or is there a way to recover applications database properly? My Moto G were XT1033 version with android 5.1 lollipop.
Every help were appreciated, Thank you .

I think I recall the demo version of GetDataBack did not work as well as the full version. Even after bootloader unlock (data wipe) - you should still be able to recover files.

I do not have the time to test solutions for you. I suggest you try a google search and re-read the thread I initially linked to above.

Hi! It seems i found the problem, the problem is because userdata partition detected as a Unallocated Space thats why all apps like Autopsy, FTK imager, GetDataBack, cant determine the file system for userdata partition, do you know the way around this?

I have the stock ROM on USB now, but hè will not install it. When i press the home and enter button and plug the power cable. Hè start up with the MI logo and shuts down, then start up with no screen.
Are there other ways to install the stock ROM?
AFAIK the Stock ROM typically gets installed by means of ADB Sideload method:
Code:
adb devices
adb reboot sideload
adb sideload <FULL-PATH-TO-STOCK-ROM-ZIP-FILE-ON-PC-HERE>

The USB-stick, once plugged into Windows computer, in Windows OS is recognized as a drive: note down this drive letter returned. Then sequentially run the ADB commands listed above.

My drive letter is :e
Didn't think it can be so difficult.
Assumed the Stock ROM's file is located in root of E: drive then the ADB command in your case becomes
Code:
adb sideload E:\<NAME-OF-STOCK-ROM-ZIP-FILE>
where you have to substitute
<NAME-OF-STOCK-ROM-ZIP-FILE>
by ROM's true file name

ah ok. lets try.
It seems not so difficult but, for the first time is everything more difficult
What do i wrong. sorry! I do really my best
1, i have a format 16gb usb FAT32
2. i have install ADB installer.
3. i have download the stock rom (see picture)
4. my drive name is e:
5. When i zip my stock rom file, i got an another zip file, and an file of 1kb
in the next picture is what i do in CMD
anglee_full_9.0.0.1911 is my zipped stock rom downloadfile
the other 2 are the unzipped files from the first file
1st screenshot provided above shows
1. Device isn't connected via USB-cable with PC or, if, not powered on
2. The ROM's archive name you entered is without fileextension -> required :ZIP
If ROM's archive is packed as .RAR file then you have it to repack to .ZIP file
I think it will not gonna help.
When i connect my projector to the pc, the pc dont recognize him.
What i try, nothing works.
but thanks for your help anyway
