Now that Google has sold off Motorola to Lenovo, are we still expecting regular updates or is this device doomed to the never to be updated category?

There aren't any more updates for Android right now, it's at 4.4.2 and no one here can predict the future. Moto G was released with a planned update for 4.4.2, they didn't promise any others.
Depends on when android 4.5/ 5 get released
If its in next 5 to 6 months...Moto g would get
If not Atleast Gpe version would get it and we can port it from there

Android L is not even fully fixed on its bugs and it's not even done yet but here you are expecting Android M. It hasn't even been a year since the Lollipop launch. :/
edit: but my best bet, I think it will be released for Moto G. Everyone knows how motorola updates their phones.

Most likely not. We started with 4.4 KitKat got an update to 5.1 Lollipop and now we can use 6.0 Marshmallow. Not many if any Huawei devices got 2 main android version change. If this device would get another that would be a record maker. Even in Nexus standards... Nexus 5 had the same support as this device.
Apparently it will not receive Nougat, as neonflake mentioned. And as there is no active development for this device the chances with a 3rd party rom (CyanogenMod for example) are quite low.
Where's the EMUI 5.1 update? Anyone received it?
If you can't wait for updates you should not have bought a huawei phone. Huawei usually takes a half year for bringing it's newest software to older devices.

it does appear the devs have possibly moved on with the exception of crdroid. doesnt surprise me as the honor 8 is over a year old. I may update to the honor 9 soon.

But i still dont get about the Software Updates On LG Q6.
LG is releasing Security updates once in 2 (or) 3months but there is no word for the next android version.
Will Android O come to our LG Q6 (or) Have the chance to get it ..?

No news for Q6, as far as I know LG confirmed update for G5, G6, V20 & V30, that's it.

It would be a tremendous failure if Oreo did not appear in the LG Q6!
The serious thing is not that it has not appeared yet, it is that we do not know with certainty if it will appear or not.
Yes , for the same range Oreo is started to roll out or will be ,also moto g4 line is getting oreo which is 2yrs old!
Thats one of the reason why LG is Suffering in Smartphone department.
My first LG phone was G2 which worked flawlessly till 2years which got updated from Jellybean to Lollipop.
Expecting the same for Q6, Hope LG will do something by seeing competitors like Xiaomi , Moto , Nokia and all....
There is a confirmation from LG Mexico, in which it states that Oreo will be available for LG Q6 approximately during the month of May.
