[Q] Still on rooted 12.7.7, how to upgrade?? - Droid Ultra Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Well I'm still on the original 4.2.2 /12.7.7 version without the camera upgrade, I've been looking at the Dev forum about upgrading to Kit kat but a prerequisite is to be on 12.15.15. I'll take the kit kat update, or at least to the point of being at 12.15.15.
just need some guidance. thanks

you need to be 100% stock, unrooted with the stock recovery to take the OTA

Haha I made the mistake of rooting on 12.7.7 to the .15.15 then wondering wtd was when I was constantly booting up then rebooting. Once I tool the camera update it was smooth sailing as far as rooting the telnet method and rockmymoto

Rooted at 4.1.1 - Should I take the 4.1.2 update?

I just got this device as a new phone. it came with 4.1.1.
I followed the procedure to downgrade, root, and upgrad.
I am now at 4.1.1, rooted.
The 4.1.2 update has downloaded on my phone, and it is asking me if i want to install. Will i loose root? is Voodoo broken for this update? or will i be ok if i temp un-root, and then take the update?
I don't want to take the update if it will kill my hard-earned root. I know it is sometimes lost when taking this update. Should i do it or not? and what is the "right" way to do it to protect root?
be helpful to know your device, if u on xt 925 you can, if on xt 926 then chill

Not dev edition. Will stay put. Thanks for the input
What do we miss by not taking the update? anything of value?

Just unroot, install update and restore root. That's what I did and it was fine, until someone told me SBF'ing would give me better battery life, now I lost root. Wish I had just left it. I have XT926 non-dev edition. Use voodoo rootkeeper.
We got root now!

No worries, we now have root ability for the HD on 4.1.2 thanks to Dan R! Check for it as I am unable to post links at the moment.
I didn't see a link here on XDA yet so forgive the external link.
I had tried SBF back to 4.1.1 and 4.0.4 after a buggy 4.1.2 update, only to soft brick my phone. SBF of 4.1.2 got me functional again thank goodness. so I waited for a root app, got one yesterday.
even with root out for 4.1.2, it was safe to take the OTA on 926 consumer.
I took a chance and upgraded my maxx hd using the OTA (i used rootkeeper)... but it stayed rooted no problem after the update and didn't run into any issues or bugs that i could tell... Was also able to boot up another slot on still on 4.1.1... Nothing too significant in 4.1.2 over 4.1.1 though... but it's moot now since the root's been released

[Q] TF300T upgrade 4.1.1 to 4.2.2

Hi!,
I have my asus TF300 unlock in version 4.1.1 with the BlueROM (this is since Oct 2012).
I would like to go for 4.2.2 (mainly flash 11 support is the cause)
Ive been searching and I can see a lot of brick devices...
Mine is already unlocked and rooted in 4.1.1
Is there any guide to go for 4.2.2?
Do I need to:
- update bootloader
- install room
- root 4.2?
Or what? I am confused...
update done with success!

hey im in the same boat. im on an old CROMI rom 4.1( rooted and unlocked boot loader) and i want to go to stock 4.2 and then re-root.
how did you complete this. im worried about bricking it.
i was planning on flashing the stock 4.2 (10.1.6.15 update) from asus then rooting it with the new method to avoid bricking.
is this what you did?

[Q] Stay rooted & choose a rom or un-root and OTA then Root ..Benefits?

I have rooted my month old Moto Maxx to 4.2.2 12.15.15. What are the benefits of going back to stock & taking the OTA & then trying to re-root over just installing a new ROM ..say CM? I got the message that the OTA for 4.4 is available...Whats my best bet? I'm happy just being rooted & able to get rid of the bloat. Used RockMyMoto to root.

Well...
1. If you return to stock and take the OTA you will lose root with no chance of getting it back...you have to follow JCase's instructions to keep root...
2. ROM choices are beyond limited for the new Droids...the Dev community is basically nonexistent
3. imo your beat bet is to follow the JCase root method and run a rooted 4.4

I wish there were some comparison videos for the ultra or maxx that compared JB vs kitkat and focused on load times and lag.
There aren't a ton of improvements from 4.2.2 to 4.4 imo

is there a way to keep root on 4.1.2 and upgrade to kit kat ?

Is there a way to keep root and upgrade to kit kat . Currently the phone is at version 9.30.1.xt926 .
I believe I know that the bootloader is not unlockable no more unless someone knows different. So with that being said is there a away to upgrade to kit kat and keep root ?
Thanks,

No. Just like all the other threads that have asked this, root is not obtainable without an unlocked bootloader with Kit Kat.
IIs not my phone just helping out a friend and from what I read I didn't think so but wanted to make sure. Also can't unlock borrower on update his phone is at also correct?

[Q] Need help reverting back to kitkat!

So I recently converted to the Digitalhigh GPE 5.0.1 ROM and I loved it....until my Google Maps and GPS stopped working. I realize there might be a fix, but I would rather convert back to Sense because the 5.0 update is coming soon anyways. for the record I have the Verizon M8 and I used the weaksauce + sunshine exploit to get s-off and unlock the bootloader. I just really want Sense back for now. Please, I'm extremely desperate.

You can flash the s-off ruu I have posted in the dev section. It's rooted and will put your firmware and Rom back to stock.
