htc speak - General Questions and Answers

Hi everyone, first sorry for my English and thank you all in advance.
I have a htc one s-off with the latest firmware ... use and elegance since October.
With version 25 I have a problem that did not have before.
When I open htc car and pulse "speak" is left hanging, says: just one moment, preparing data now, i do not do anything more.
I tried deleting data, down from myhub app, nothing.
There may be a post about this problem but have not found it after a day reading, sorry if it is.
Thanks again, salut.

BA with WM6.5 pro, says beta version expired, help please

Hi i recently puchased a O2 XDA11s that has been upgraded to WM6.5 pro by Xplode. Trouble is 5 min after i turned it on it had a white screen with a message thanking me for using the beta version and saying it has expired.
The whole thing then looks up. A hard reset will repeat the process. It will go into boot loader mode but have been unsucessfull in making any changes.
Any way to fix this???
I am a newby to this so use simple words please.
cheers Robert
Welcome to the forum
Perhaps that ROM has a time bomb
Have a deep read here and perhaps you have to change your ROM

I had the exact problem with my X7500 Advantage. The ROM installed is no good as it is timed to expire.
You just have to find another ROM from a different ROM cook. Search the forums on xda-developers.
hi guys thanks for the comments. I will read (study) the link. I should have added that the whole thing seems to work ok if I just set the date wrong.
the rom data is 6.5.21wwe, r 1.12.00, 133.47 if that helps identify the version loaded
cheers Robert
You are using an old sys version that had a timebomb. Just update to a newer version. Most of the builds from the past month have the timebomb removed.
go groove they need this
Yeah xplode's old roms all stop working after a while. Try using the new R7 release
thanks guys, can anyone provide a link to one of the later versions without the timbomb please, the only ones I can find are back in march on pliny.
cheers Robert

[Q] Can't install a google account

I unlocked my chacha via the HTCDev process. Then, i rooted it and installed CM7 as explained in this section:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1291232
Everything ok apart from the fact that once i am trying to set a google account with my details it gives me this message:
"Can't establish a reliable connection to the server"
I don't have a two step authentication. Is there any help on this issue please?
Thanks everyone in advance
When did you flash gapps, before booting the ROM or after?
It shouldn't matter though, as I have reflashed my ROM 4 hours ago.
Thank you very much for your prompt response. I am a bit newbie to android. In order to set an account (not mail or anything else, just the account) do i need to flash google apps? I didn't know that, i am really sorry to waste your time. I searched the forum but i can't find a set of applications available to be flashed to chacha. Do you have a link (if it is not too much trouble for you)?
Thank you very much once again for your help. Everyone in this forum is doing very good job for all the android community!

I forgot to flash in CM7 these files and Google don't worked too, only MS Exchange worked (I think, you try to sync with Exchange instead Google too).
It's a link here . You must flashed this zip with Recovery.

You didn't do a very good job @ searching through the forum + now I know that you don't fully read threads.
In the CM/SuperOSR thread OP I specifically added gapps for the CM build (about 2 months ago).
@ Henry 2005: thank you very much for your help
@ Alex C.: you are absolutely right. Sometimes when you try to find something you can't even see the most obvious! It is in your initial post (that i have already sited) and still i missed it! I am really sorry to have wasted your time! Thanks a lot for your valuable help once again.

It's not that much of a thing, actually you've wasted more of your time, since I already knew where the link was and I got to it in 1 minute, whilst you had to make another thread, wait for replies, search for gapps and wait for more replies

[Q] Updating my new Desire S

Hello,
First of all, thanks for this great forum, i'm new to android and being here is really helpful.
I've read some of the guides posted, still i'd like to have some tips and infos.
I'm from Italy and my Desire S is still working on Gingerbread (!). I would like to update the firmware, if not to Jelly Bean (since the custom one is still beta, but advise me here), at least to ICS, but i don't know the routine to follow (ROOT, then Flash one of the custom ROMS? Being in S-Off mode is needed i guess). Another thing i don't get is flashing radios..
Help would be really appreciated, THANKS.
There is nothing to tell you that you can't find by reading the stickies and understanding what to do.

If you haven't messed with your phone, i.e. rooted it, flashed any fancy thirty party rom, etc, and the phone is running official HTC ROM and in the exact same state as you bought it, I'd suggest OTA and upgrade to official ICS since you are new to android. Go to setting - about phone then update from there.
If you'd like to try other ROMs then there's plenty guide in this forum already.
Imo official 4.0.4 is a bad idea.
1) It has bugs
2) hboot 2.02 cannot be downgraded without htcdev

My Desire S is new and "untouched". For what i had got, the official htc release is to be installed manually and has some issues, so I had thought a custom and more recent ROM would have been better.

Then use revolutionary (S-OFF) not unlock via htcdev.com, 4ext recovery and you are good to go
If you are on Sense 3 you will have to downgrade in order to use Revolutionary.io
And of course I concider the ROM in my signature as the best to date

If you are going custom better not use OTA
Revolutionary will install custom recovery so the next thing will be a backup of your stock ROM and installing the Rom.zip from the sdcard via the recovery. No rooting, because all custom ROMs are pre-rooted.
My ROM is ICS, there is no complete stable JB yet but once you have s-off you can try them all within minutes. And do not forget to sync/backup your data (contacts, etc) to Google or with some app from the Play Store. And read some guides before starting anything. I am just giving you directions not a tutorial

So why do you "root"? Just to unlock the phone without touching the FW?
Going custom i guess it's the only way, because htc is not going to update anymore, so better learn how to.
Anyway THANKS A LOT, it's more clear now

Yes you can root your current software (the stock one) if you need just root for an app or something specific without changing the software.
But going custom means to run Android and Sense version which you will never have officially. And they all come pre-rooted

One last thing amida... What's the difference between the various Sense versions? Just the theme? Will it be updated along with the installation of a custom ROM?

They have different versions, because they are ported from different devices and there are difference between them. Not only visual but also performance.
More info about each ROM you will find in the first post of its thread.

The best app for applications and data backup is titanium backup. It also allows you to make a flashable update zip you can flash after installing a new rom

Ok, and for saving an image of my stock ROM, just in case i need to go back?
Nandroid backup is a part of the recovery and not an app.
Start reading instead of asking, please. The procedure is covered a million times in a million places.
To the answering guys, (almost) off-topic:
I have a riddle for you, or actually, a somewhat sad observation to share and see your opinions. Since this thread is one of the examples for what I'm going to talk about, and it's useless anyway, I won't feel any remorse diverting it.
I've seen several threads during the last couple of weeks where a random noob got the best out of one of the knowledgeable members of the community - in this and other forums - and they helped him instead of sending him to read stuff that he was supposed to be reading to know the answer.
In absolutely all of those threads, noob questions continued and deteriorated to the most basic ones. There wasn't even one thread where the noob wouldn't continue with flood of basic FAQ-sort of questions.
I've wrote in a couple of them more or less what I wrote here - an unpleasant message to stop the flood of baby questions.
All of the noobs were offended.
All of the noobs actually searched and found their answer after that message, and stopped the flood (with a message that here, they were so great they actually found everything themselves).
It's kinda sad, don't you think? Quite a few times bad treatment seems the most efficient way to achieve the best results... Guess there's no miraculous other way I'm missing, or maybe there is?
(P.S. I'm also moderating a local motorcyclists forum, and keeping the same harsh line in technical sub-forum. Works 100% for >5 years already. But sometimes it gets you wondering about human nature...)

[Q] Is downgrading possible?

Greetings to whoever is reading this!
I recently got a HTC HD2 phone with JellyBean 4.2 or 4.3 installed, I'm not sure. But I've been having memory problems with the phone. Whenever I install too many apps, the internal memory of the phone goes low and I can't install anything. I used Link2SD to transfer the apps to the SD card (and yes, I partioned it correctly I think) but I still get the memory low warning.
My question is: Is it possible to downgrade from JellyBean to Android 2.3 version?
I think I screwed up a little, because while having the JellyBean still installed, I installed something else over it trying to downgrade. But that's not causing any problems so far.
I'm quite a noob when it comes to android so please bear with me. Is it possible to delete everything that is installed on this phone, and start installing Android 2.3 from the beginning? If yes, then can you please tell me step-by-step how it is done, or if there is any guide that I missed, can you point me to it?
Thank you very much!

@classic20 - You should be able to retrograde to Gingerbread in the same manner you would upgrade the phone. Also, navigate to the HTC HD2 portion of XDA, you may have better luck if you do some digging there.

Haha, I know how to search with the keyboard. When I said I am a noob, I meant on this forum and about Android in general, not the computers
Anyway, I wiped my phone with the help of a friend and installed Gingerbread 2.3 or something like that.
But, I would really like to thank you for taking the time to reply.
