MTK GPS Navigation issue - General Questions and Answers

Hello guys,
I'm having some issues about gps navigation,
My gps fix is very nice, it fixes it's position even indoors in about 10 - 20 seconds and 3-5 meters acurate but,
when i try to use it for turn-by-turn navigation it goes really bad, it desn't follow me in real time, it thinks im blocks behind,
sometimes it shows me on the right place, but keep losing my position and sometimes the fix itself,
when im at the maps app (google maps, waze, etc) it gets really worst, on waze it even get fixes sometimes,
i noticed it gets better if i run the map app in background (voice listening) and another gps app like gps test or androits gps test on 1st place,
I'm almost certain that the gps hardware is fine, it needs just some config or something to get it working right,
By the way i tried for weeks changing infinite gps.conf, agps-conf.xml, agps_profiles_conf.xml, epo_conf.xml and build.prop configurations
and settings from all forums but it helped only on fix time and acuracy, not navigation.
Please help, (At the attach goes my: gps.conf, agps-conf.xml, agps_profiles_conf.xml, epo_conf.xml and build.prop)
Sorry for my poor googled english,

Possible IGO/GPS LAG in HD2 - help...

Since it's my first time running IGO on this device, and I don't have another device to compare its performance with... I just wanted to make sure that its functioning normally.
#1 - When I start driving (from a complete halt), the application updates the velocity counter and the guidance arrow position after only 3-6 seconds?... (in this time, the velocity is @ 0, obviously, and my guidance arrow is at my previous position).
#2 - Let's say I've reached a junction with a traffic light, again, I start driving from a complete halt, the guidance arrow is stuck at my previous position (my halt position) for about 3-6 seconds, and only after-wards it registers my actual turn and proceed with tracking.
Is this a normal behavior of IGO?... I have tried both 8.3.2.97313 & 8.3.4.102680 - it seems that they provide identical results. GPS Configurations - COM4 / Baud - 57600
I hope you guys understand... it's quite hard to explain without some visual demonstration.
Thanks in advance!
No thats not normal.
iGo8 on my phone has a max lag of 2 seconds..
Try fidling with the baud rate settings... Mine is set to:
Port: 4
Baud: 4800
Hope that fixes your problem.

Why would a LOWER baud rate make the interface snappier?
I guess that 4800 is a sort of "default" value, rather than forced one, which might cause problems... since Windows Mobile manages the gps configurations automatically, this might solve it. so far, even after changing it to 4800, I don't think it actually changed anything. I wonder because some people claim that their IGO navigates smoothly without lags and provides amazing accuracy - mine doesn't seem to meet those claims at all.
I can confirm that I can get a fixed gps signal indoors, even IGO runs very well - menus/responsiveness wise, but I think that the behavior of the navigation itself has to be improved.
What car are you driving? You should now that the front windows of new cars are coated with some sort of metal and therefore the reception inside the car is limited. Maybe that's the issue, because my father has the same problem when using his PNA in his buisness-car. It seems to lag and sometimes even lose the signal out of nowhere.
It's an old Daihatsu Applause, I doubt it has something to deal with the front window (I'm getting a good reception inside my house, in less than 10 seconds). I'm aware of some EU regulations for cars since 2005/2006, "luckily" I haven't yet owned one of these. ;-)
I wish I could test CoPilot/TomTom, but they don't seem to offer support for my region.
a tip for the gps configuration:
go to the gps menu inside igo8 -> turn off gps -> set gps to automatic
that did the trick for me, every manual setting somehow didn't work or made problems and now everything works fine so far.
you mean com port -> automatic / gps - untick?
what about baud setting?...
thanks for your help!
- you remove the selection on "gps activated"
- then you click on "auto-search" (don't know if it says that exactly, mine is set to german)
it should then search for the correct settings and select "activated" by itself. now you're set.
Well "automatic search" finds the GPS on [email protected] and sets it accordingly.
But it doesn't change getting more than 2fps while navigating.
The navigation-sim shows that rendering perfomance isn't the problem, because that is really smooth.
The GPS position is somehow not interpolated or whatever, with this horrible results, I really cannot understand why it's not bugging people...
Mr. Boba23 - I could kiss you! It's now silky-smooth again
I had it set to "use device settings", because I'd wanted the light-sensors auto-backlight to be active, but guess what, it's still active at "always on".
Great tip!
@Boba23, Thanks a gazillion! I was very dissapointed with IgO, as the simulator makes the device look a fast gaming computer, the actual navigation looked like a commodore 64.
Now, with your tip, both simulation and actual driving looks the same, THANKS.
PS. If you want to go really crazy with frames per second, buy a globaltop Headsup DIsplay GPS, it does 5HZ !! 5 updates in GPS per second. All other GPS give you 1 hz.
so at this point, I can understand that the lag and the "dancing guidance cursor while in a static position" which I'm experiencing probably point on a faulty device, since none of you guys experience these phenomenons.

[Q] CM 10.1 Andromadus + tomtom HD traffic = GPS off

Hi,
problem with Android 4.2.2 CM 10.1 Build 22 Andromadus, HTC Desire S
When using HD traffic, then the animated icons on the right side make my screen "grey" and also TomTom itself suddenly loose the GPS signal. (other applications like Maps, Copilot, GPS tools, .. have, at the same time, the GPS signal ok) You can see there is no speed, etc, ..., navigation is completely lost.
I was testing that more 3 weeks and only reasons are the animated icons on the right side - if there is no accident on the way, then everything is fine.....
A guy on tomtom forum asnwered me this:
When there is traffic on the right side, the Tomtom app begins to use lots of CPU for its constant background recalculation to look for faster routes. Perhaps the ROM has a bug where the system loses GPS signal when CPU is under high strain.
that sounds reasonably but I'm still waiting for registration on andromadus.flinny.org to announce this issue there....
Any other idea how to solve it or who clould fix that? Othewise I'm going to switch to another ROM

[Q] How is navigation related data passed?

HI!
I am totally lost. I have several phones that have GPS and interial sensors like compass, gyro and g-Sensor. I have some older phones with cROMS that support navigation perfectly. Now I got a phone that picks up satellite data very fast, but I bet it does not correctly provide the sensor data to the navigation.
Result: It picks you up on gmaps, sygic or navigon, but if you drive and turn right at a crossing, the pointer on the map goes straight onwards. After some time it then jumps to your correct position. I tested different navigation apps and all of them behave a bit different as they use different alogorythms to keep you on track, but all of them fail, as they seem not to get valid g-sensor, compass and gyro data.
But if I start an app like androsensor, I can see that the show, roughly guessed, correct values...
So now I am puzzled! How does android provide sensor information to a navigation application? Is there a test framework in AOSP/CM to check if it works, is there a description or is there anyone who can help me a bit to find the right track in the software?
Btw. I checked NMEA strings and they do not inherit data about magnetic compass or bearing, velocity and accelleration. But they dont too in all my other phones, that worked really good with navigation.
Thank you in advance for any hint or trick

MTK 6753 (not 65xx) GPS problem - huge drop in no. of satellites in navi apps -

Hello.
I want to report on all technical forums, an issue that I have encountered in MTK6753. It's about the GPS module of the chipset in some navi apps.
I own a VOYO Q101 Phablet (chipset MTK6753, 2GB RAM, 32GB Flash-Memory), with Android 7.0.
Despite the fact that the chipset model is MTK6753, when reading the prop.file I can see that the GPS module is based on MTK6735.
Scenario:
Firstly, we need to get the "GPS Locker" app from Store, in order to get our "real-time" no. of satellites in the notification bar.
Secondly, we need to install Waze and Google Maps (two navi apps, well known in Europe ans US) - in order to do the test.
1. We are turning on the Location. We can choose any option from "Device only (GPS module only)", "High accuracy". The following problem occurs in both situations. Let's choose Device only.
2. Open GPS Locker and get a lock. Very fast, I get a lock in 3-5 seconds (outside) and 10-15 seconds (inside a building).
No. of satellites: 15/17, 16/17, sometimes 18/20. So, no problem with the antenna or other stuff ... Okaaay.
Now, 3. Open Waze or Google Maps and, in the next second (immediately) slide down the notification bar (in order to see the GPS Locker status).
We can see that the no. of satellites decreases drastically, sometimes till 0/20 satelittes ! So, we have no GPS in navi apps. This is the problem I want to emphasize.
Very good reception in GPS status apps (like GPS Locker, GPS test, etc.), but when opening Waze or Google Maps we have a huge drop in the number of satellites available.
Sometimes, it goes down till 0, and after 10-15 seconds fluctuates between 3-4-5-6 satellites, then suddenly back to 0, etc., etc.
We can exclude:
- a problem in GPS antenna (than, I shouldn't have 18-19/20 satts in GPS Locker)
- a hardware problem
I have tried some settings from MTK 65xx GPS tutorial (settings in Developer Mode, Engineering Mode), but everything is okay (outside of a navi software .... )
Where is the problem? Have you encountered this problem?

I have a Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro - and the GPS position "freezes" when using navigation.

Hello.
I have a Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro - and the GPS position "freezes" when using navigation.
This is manifested by the fact that when driving a car or walking, the GPS location position just seems to lock up. I checked on the GPStest and it looks like the GPS position freezes / locks, the satellites show active (but do not change) to the way I go, e.g. 40km / h and stop, then the navigation shows these 40km / h and the hour (seconds) do not update in GPS.
It detects the GPS position very well, AGPS reset or, for example, cleaning the GoogleMaps cache does not help. Sometimes restarting the phone will help, sometimes the position itself will unlock. I thought it might be a problem with the maps, but all the maps go crazy and there is also a problem on GPS testing applications as I described.
In practice, when driving on any map, e.g. GoogleMaps - the position goes crazy, moves backwards / jumps forward / backwards, shows badly or reacts with a huge delay.
I noticed that if I turn off "location" in the menu - then all satellites / position / time / speed are blocked (i.e. similarly to this problem that the GPS itself locks when it wants to), but in this case I force the location to be turned off . That's what I noticed by accident.
Someone may have a similar problem?
Regards (sorry for my bad English).
