I've seen a couple of posts about this, but can't figure out how to get it to work. I installed Faux's DS OC/UV Kernel Version 0.4.3 kernel, but I can't get that OC/UV kernel to even boot. The soft keys light up, the screen turns off, and the phone just sits there.
Did a nandroid restore, and then installed Faux's DS SV Kernel Version 0.4.3 kernel. No problems with it so far, but I just wanted to know how some people can get the OC/UV kernel to work with the G2x, but others can't (aren't all these phones identical in terms of architecture, chips, etc.?)?
Just wondering if there's any improvement to battery life with this new kernel. I have SetCPU running too and have several different profiles setup.
Which ROM are you using?
Oops. Sorry. CM 7.1.0.1.

Faux has 2 kernel versions.... one that is PRE-Overclocked and PRE-Undervolted; and the other that is starts with stock speeds and voltages.
I've NEVER been able to get the pre-OC/UV'd kernels to work on any of the several phones I have went through. I get EXACTLY what you are getting now, just a black screen and unable to boot.
Download his "SV" rom. That is his kernel that starts off with stock settings. You'll get all the features and you can OC/UV manually.
Cool. Yeah, I got the SV running just fine now. Since you can't mess with the voltages with this kernel, does it still offer any better battery performance than the stock kernel?

Are you talking about adjusting these settings through SetCPU? For some reason, SetCPU works fine for changing clock speeds, but when I try and go to the "Voltages" tab in SetCPU, bam, it crashes with:
"The application SetCPU (process com.mhuang.overclocking) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again."

OK. Just tried it. "Clear cache" was grayed out, but I did click on "Clear data" and then rebooted. I launched SetCPU. Chose the Tegra 2 chipset, selected "Set on Boot", created my Profiles, then tried Voltages, but got the same error
Any thoughts?

Never mind, mods please delete.
From my experience, Faux's kernel isn't playing nice with the latest stable CM release. That's why right now I'm back on stock CM kernel.

Hmm.. Interesting. I'll keep an eye out for it. Today's my first full day with that combination of mod and kernel. Other than the weird battery charge amount readings, it seems to be stable with a better battery life than the CM kernel. Wish I could mess with the voltages too to try and eek out even more battery life. Oh well though.
Have you deleted your battery stats in CWM? When I had Faux 0.4.3 and EaglesBlood 2.4 (CM7 based) running together I had the same battery problems. I eventually went back to stock CM kernel and then I cleared the battery stats and everything normalized again.
To appropriately clear the battery stats, you have to be at 100% charge before you do it.
Let me know how it works, maybe I'll go back to 0.4.3.

No kidding??? Nope. Hadn't heard about that. Will give that a shot late night tonight after I fully charge it when I get home. Thanks for the tip!
Any thoughts on this issue with SetCPU and not being able to access the "voltages" tab?
I went back and read over from the beginning of this thread to refresh myself. Two reasons come to mind:
1. It could be because I don't think Faux's SV kernel is optimized/set up to have it's voltages changed. On his OP, he won't even troubleshoot problems unless they're on the SV kernel. Hence, it makes sense not to give people the freedom to OC/UV it so they can't complain about problems they made for themselves.
2.It could also be SetCPU, I know other's have gone to Pimp My CPU (You can search it on XDA) because PMCPU was built from the ground up to OC and UV, but it's features outside of that are sparse. But eventually SetCPU caught up and is the No.1 for OC/UV.
Maybe giving Pimp My CPU a try wouldn't hurt, if it doesn't work than you know that the kernel won't allow it.
Cool. I guess I'll give this current combo a try and see if I even feel the need to mess with voltages. Got pretty good batter life today so far. Going to go home, charge the phone fully, wipe the battery stats and then resume testing.
I like how I can setup profiles on SetCPU. Wonder if PMCPU has something similar.
Thanks again though!

No problem. Yeah, that's what makes SetCPU so legit. I don't believe Pimp My CPU has that feature. Just establishing max, min, and their voltages. Could be wrong though.
Cool. I'll give this "clear battery stats" a shot and then might give this other app a try. So far impressed with how much battery life I have left already.

Any update?
I'm going to have to try later this evening or tomorrow. I forgot but when doing app updates, CW ROM Manager got updated. Anyway, I guess this update did something because when I tried rebooting into Recovery, it never did, it just rebooted normally into CM.
I finally launched CW ROM Manager, chose to "Reboot into Recovery", it then asked for su permissions (or something) and finally worked. Anyway, I rebooted like 4 or 5 times before I realized that this was the issue preventing me from rebooting into Recovery like I normally do. That put enough of a drain on the battery where I didn't want to wipe the battery stats <sigh>
And of COURSE I didn't bring my charger
Will try again this evening and post the results.
Hi - my HTC Sensation phone keeps shutting down on it's own randomly.
By shut down I mean screen goes blank, it powers down, only way to start again is to take out the battery and reinsert.
I am using stock battery that came with the phone.
It's happened 6-7 times in like 2 weeks. I can't determine what is causing it, I did notice it was twice when i used the camera and once skype.
The temperate in battery monitor widget appear normal, no like sudden jump that would indicate the shut down.
It is running 2.3.4 with Android revolution Rom.
Any help/assistance would be appreciated.
Lastly, for HTC repairs, what do they require, store receipt, etc.?

maybe this is a rom issue or maybe the kernel you are using...try another rom and see if it happens again...this is not hardware problem...
Try a new kernel first before reflashing rom. Also look at voltage levels, of volts are set too low this can happen.

Silly question, have you tried the rom without flashing kenels? Meaning use the one bundled in the rom.
To be honest im not sure how to do that, i just followed the thread and installed the rom as mentioned in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098849
I did just revert back to 1.2ghz right now to see if that makes a difference, the rom i was on had the cpu set to 1.5ghz

Isn't ARHD a sense based rom? I use faux's kernel and he states that it is for AOSP/CM roms only. Could that be the issue?
Edit: My bad, forgot that faux develops the kernel for arhd as well. I had a similar issue when I tried to upgrade my radio to the newest from the same one you are using. Flashing back stopped the black screens.

I think I read in that thread that if people are having trouble with the overclock, to lower to 1ghz. But report back if your way works or not. GL
I have been having some random shut downs as well lately. I've been running the last insertcoin GB rom. It started as an occasional shut down but recently became very frequent. I decided to superwipe and flash the lastest android revolution gb rom and during the initial boot up it shut down and then 2 more times before I was able to finish logging in to my gmail account to complete the phone's setup. It's now started up and hasn't shut down in the last 15 minutes or so but I'm wondering what is causing it. I had stock kernel with insertcoin's rom and I selected the 1.5 kernel during the install of ARHD. I also flashed the recommended radio for the ARHD rom before installing it.
I would like to find a solution for this too because I have been dealing with this for a long time. I have tried many ROMS both ICS and GB and many different kernels and still have problems. The problem seems to go away with aosp ROMS for me though:/
EDIT: And the most of the time it happens if not all the time the batteryis below at least 50% and starts to really get crazy after the 20% and 10%
I am freaking so frustrated with this phone.
I went back to normal 1.2ghz, but now a few days later battery is well at 50%, it still shuts down.
#@$#@[email protected]#
Anyone have a solution here? Is there a damn log or trace that can be run to identify why it shuts down on itself.

Hello everyone posted this thread up so that I can get to the bottom of the random reboots and strange battery % eny feed back would be great thanks
I have been on viper Rom for a few months now. its been a great rom until I changed the Kernal in the tweaks it just hasn't been the same . random reboots and battery % has been all over the place jumping from 80% to 10% after reboot. I have kept to all the default settings in the aroma installer no uv and no oc. the phone works no problems when on the charger witch makes me think its a battery issue. I have tried cleaning the battery grounding pins and placing a bit of card at the top of the battery with no success I am at a loss here. feed back would be great thanks for your time

Hi,
OK
You should think about saving all your data, wiping the phone clean, and start again from scratch with the good kernel.
If that fails, then, you should look for a new battery.
Sent telepathically from my pyramid
My GF and I have the same phone, and hers has the bone stock ROM from TMO/HTC, and she's been getting a lot of strange reboot/battery drain cycles going on lately. I've got an older ARHD ICS ROM, and I've had no trouble at all with it.
Her phone went from 50% to 8% after a reboot last night, and after about 10 hours on the charger, it's only showing about 75%. If she has any more issues, than I'm going to put the latest ARHD ROM on it and call it good.

Only new battery I had same problems, a new battery solved it.
Have the same problem. Is this a Rom/Kernel bug or do I need to buy a new battery?
Hello, I've been with this problem almost a month and I hope that I can find a solution here. In fact, when my phone is off and I want to charge it by plunging it to a charger, normally, the phone will turn on (but not boot into a ROM) and a charging animation (a big battery with green "juice" in it) will appear. However, when I do the same with by GT-N7100 running JellyBam version jellybam_n7100_jb-PAOKP10-4.1.0-20130116 and kernel 3.0.31-CM-g9d7654c [email protected]#1 Wed Jan 16 08:48:47 CET 2013, it stuck at the screen where there's a loading circle "forever". I do not think it is the ROM problem since at that state the phone is not even booting into the ROM. Also, couple of people on this forum advice me to flash another kernel since that seems to be a kernel problem (but I couldn't see why since the kernel that I am currently using comes with the ROM itself, so I think it should work with the hardware itself). Also, I couldn't find a compatible kernel with the version of the ROM as most of theme included RedPill are out of date. I can upgrade the ROM but it has problem with the newest version. So, I just don't feel comfortable to do the flash right now. Any idea? Do you think it's the ROM problem, the kernel problem or just simply the charging animation that doesn't work properly? I been asking this question multiple times and many researches have been made but nothing and no one can give me a satisfactory answer and here's a link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37923172&postcount=706

It does make a difference between charging your phone when your phone is actually on and charging when it's off. In fact, when it's on and even it's set to low CPU level ( let say 200Mhz), when you connect to your charger, there's still activities in the CPU. Imagine if you leave your phone on and charge it overnight, CPU will work for nothing and leaving the phone off and charge it is a good way to charge your battery in the way that give the CPU some rest. You can not stay awake overnight, your phone can't neither...

Found the fix here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2293095&page=3
I'm looking for a kernel or kernel tweak to fix an issue. My issue isn't with how fast games are running (I can drudge through the bits of lag, its not that bad) or the screen freezing. Its with touching the screen in two places at the same time. I've read about the touch screen CPU spikes, where every time you touch the screen the CPU jumps to 100%. Which would make sense to why when I'm playing games the button pad (on the right side of my screen) hits the corresponding button I'm holding down on the directional pad (on the left side of my screen) and visa versa. Thus making most games, especially games that require jumping in certain directions and hitting two buttons at the same time almost impossible to play.
Currently I'm running backside iho cm7.2 and I'd love to keep this rom so I'm looking for something compatible. I've already tried flashing 4 other kernels and got stuck at boot and had to restore each time which is why I'm not just trying kernel after kernel on my own and looking for recommendations. I'm not really worried about much else in the kernel besides fixing the touch screen bug, overclocking over and governors like performance, smartassv2 and conservative.
Or if there's a script I can run to fix this that would be wayyyyy rad also.
All newer kernel includes the touchscreen fix. The bug is now a thing in the past

All newer kernels for the P500 you mean? He's using an Optimus V, though.

yup, and I haven't changed roms or kernels since flashing backside about a year ago since it worked so well, and who knows how long it had been since the kernel was messed with when I flashed it.

I can compile, or at least try to compile, a kernel for you to test. However, I will only have time for that on Monday or Tuesday. Do you mind waiting until then?

If you want the fixes to that kernel, then sure
Can you give me a link to his kernel? And what fixes did you want to see?
Looks like you want a CPU spike fix, axis inversion fix, and the governors you mentioned?

I linked the rom and kernel in the first post, they came together yeah I pretty much just want the multitouch to be better so I can actually play games that require me to touch the screen at two places at once haha
Thanks alot man I've been on the compatible kernel search for a couple weeks, dunno how many times I had to restore cause it gets stuck at the LG splash (I've even let it sit for over an hour just in case)
If there's anything you can throw in there to improve performance that would be rad but it's not too big of a deal, only game that really lags bad is GTA3

Didn't have much time, so I just attempted to fix the lag and the multi touch problem. As promised, the kernel is here:
http://code.google.com/p/sweetnsour-kernel/downloads/list
Look for VM670-version1-CFS. If I get the time, I can improve it some more, but for now, it is just going to be a fix for the two problems. As for the governors, the governors that you've mentioned are already included, unless you were talking about an upgrade for the governors.
Hopefully I compiled the right kernel, as bobzhome made different branches of the kernel. Please tell me how it goes
So I tried it and I can't tell anything is different :/

Sorry, now that I think about it, the touchscreen driver I put in that kernel is better suited for ICS. I'll have another kernel up with a different touchscreen driver tomorrow.
Uploaded a kernel with the same touchscreen driver, the reason being I don't believe I compiled the previous kernel with the touchscreen driver. I believe I just gave you the same kernel that you had before. Please try it now and tell me if anything has changed.

Good science. Any worthwhile experiment needs a placebo in there, somewhere.

Unintentional though
Alrighty so I have been busy and haven't been able to tinker with my phone, but I decided to try it again today, cleared cache and dalvik and flashed it, booted up normal after usual amount of time after flashing. Once booted and as usual adw ex and everything else on link2sd wasn't there so I let it sit for like 20 min and rebooted, which usually gets adw ex and link2sd to be back up and goin smooth, but the phone never booted again. Got past all the usual boot stuff but just sat on a black screen (through the entire movie prometheus haha) so thank god I made a backup to restore cause I tried a battery pull a couple times. Sooooo I dunno what's up
