[Q] oh no...what have I done..! - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have spent the last 3 days trying to upgrade my Tf101 with an up to the minute os but have bitten off more than I can chew. I spent the whole of the first day just trying to root it to no avail. Ok, no problem, sleep on it. Next morning tried a different method and " hey presto " I have done it.
So, next job is download " Titanium " and make back up to micro sd card, all done. I then followed " Frederuco's Guide and installed EasyFlasher with TWRP 2.3.6.0 and with a bit of fiddling and button pushing managed to load it and followed his guide right through to the second option " Custom Rom with custom recovery ". I had loaded KatKiss 4.4.2_019.zip along with the add on pack and the latest Gapps package. So far so good. Did full the full wipe/ factory reset, cache, davlick cache, system etc, more success, nearly there. Back to TWRP home screen an click INSTALL to start the flash............where is the micro sd..........? Check further.........micro sd not mounted......oh sugar.......
So now I'm screwed, I think I have bitten off more than I can chew. My little TF101 was working fine before I messed with it albeit a bit slow but it was working. Micro sd card slot was working fine up until now. I am not that PC literate if anyone can help me it needs to be in simple terms please, but I can follow instructions. My pc is running on win 7 32 bit. The Asus was totally stock on the last firmware that ended with .27
I do have a keyboard dock with it but has not been coupled to it through out this process.
Have I trashed my little Asus..?
I appreciate any thoughts even if it bad news. This is the first time I have ever attempted something like this, a total newbie.
Thanks,
Steve

Go to the "Mount" option in TWRP and mount the MicroSD ?
If I remember correctly, with the newer TWRP builds, you have to change between Internal and External SD using a dropdown on the Install page

Also, you need to have the micro SD installed on boot I believe. It is not auto mounted in TWRP.

Tried that, it says something like " unable to mount in the logs " Did it quite a few times.
Thanks for the reply

I thought that and that could have been my first mistake as I had not got the files on it when the Guide told me me to install the rom to flash.
I then put the files on a inserted the card but obviously it still did not mount. I did try the " mounting option " in the program but as you can see I did not manage it. I will try again but I am not holding my breath...!
Thanks for your reply.

Tyr flashing a different version with Easyflasher
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1688012
Or
Download a different flashable TWRP zip - 2.3.2.3 is the latest official build
Connect PC > TF and boot into TWRP
Use adb to push version 2.3.2.3 to the TF internal sdcard
adb push twrp.zip /sdcard/
Then flash from internal sd
You could do the same with the ROM

ok, lost me there....what is ADB ?

Just use Easyflasher, it's easy and quick
ADB
http://www.geek.com/mobile/what-is-adb-and-how-do-i-use-it-1461697/

I'm still trying now, have Easyflsher open but am struggling with it.......I've done so much reading my brain is pickled...!

I have been trying to use ABD sideload but it is not loading........

I am still trying to sort my problem out.
I have downloaded fresh copy of EasyFlasher- 0.8.3b-STABLE_2.6.3.0 which I assume is the latest version?
I am able to get the TF101 into APX mode and load TWRP.
It would appear that the TF is not connecting to my win7 PC because of a driver issue. When I go to device manager the Android ATP device has a yellow triangle through it which I asume is the driver issue. It keeps trying to load a new deiver but ends up as " Failed "
The drivers that I am pointing it at are " Universal Naked Driver 0.72 which I thought where the ones required or perhaps I am doing something wrong...?
I assume if I can get this connected I can move forward.
Can anyone help me with this issue please. I tried till 02.30 this morning, I never figured that it was going to be this hard..!
Thanks in advance

Hi, don't panic, you have already install TWRPP. At first be sure your microsd card is always on fat32 and get rom and googapps
If ok put your pad off and insert your sd in. Reboot on twrp. To see your sd card hit install, on the high of the screen you can see "choose a zip to install", above hit on "storage internal storage", a new screen will open, select micro sd, your rom and should be here. If you want to remake all wipe before flasing hit the back arrow in the hight right corner. Hit Wipe on the menu, select partitions to wipe, hit all except micro sd and external (of course). Install rom and gapps, wipe cache and dalvik cache, reboot. I try it this day on twrp 2.6.3.10, i don't remenber for 2.6.3.0, but the way is the same. Good luck

Yes, that the way i try first, if you can boot on TWRP there'snt any reason to reflash it !

To jh1969
I followed your instuctions......perfect, I don't think I would have figured it without your help. My micro sd card was formatted in NTFS...! Did format to fat32 and things started to work. Started form the beginning again and now I have it working again....!
I did a back up using Titanium (Apps+data) to the micro sd before I screwed it all up, just got to figure out how to restore that then things will be a lot better. Any idea how I get Gmail back ?
Thanks again for your help.

Figured out my Gmail problem, found the app on the play store, not sure how I missed it the first time.
Could not figure out Titanium, did try loads of times to restore apps & data but no luck so another late night downloading all the apps one by one and getting them all going.
At least I now have my pad working again but still have some issues to sort out.
I cannot get the camera working, when I try to open it I get " Unfortunately, Gallery has stopped"........I get the response also when I try to open " Gallery "
I have not yet figured out a quick way to look at the Micro SD....on the stock TF101 rom there was an icon you could open up in the bottom left corner but of course that has gone now. Any ideas?
Overall I am very please the way it is performing now, it is much quicker than it was prior to this update so thanks to all for there time for all who have developed these software's/roms etc to enable people like me to enjoy my TF101 and extend its life further. I would like to increase it speed a bit more but I think I had better get any issues sorted before I attempt anything else. I have not put it in its dock yet so will try that later today.

[Q] Can't Anyone Help ???

I'll try this forum, over 200 views on my other posts and no suggestions. Is the problem that obscure ? The tablet, while not worthless, is getting there as I am unable to load any of the hacks and fixes to the SD card to install. Is there a work-around the SD card so I could reinstall the g-sensor fix ?
With all the great minds on this forum, surely someone will have some insight into my problem. To start with I am running the latest Vegan release (thanks Team) and have been since 1/1. The only thing I can think of that might have caused this problem was that I foolishly removed my SD card without dismounting it and popped in a blank one to see if it was working. Since then, I am unable to mount an SD card. If just says "Unmount in Progress". When I click on unmount, it will unmount it and give me the "Mount SD card" option, when I try to mount it, it will say "preparing SD card", then go back to "Unmount in Progress". When I try to mount a new card, it says "Card blank or unsupported file system". But all the other card I have used in my Gtab give me the same Unmount in Progress issues. I reinstalled Vegan. Apps that used to work, no longer work, they just open and close (No FC message)
Someone please help !!!

I'm not one of the g tablet great minds but I'll make a suggestion that always works for me.
1) Format your external SD card in a computer with Fat32. Preferably not a quick format.
2) Using Recovery wipe EVERYTHING, repartition/format the internal memory.
3) Reboot into Recovery
4) Connect to a computer, mount usb, copy your files over again.
5) Re-install the rom of your choice.
In my experience (at least on the HD2 with Android) crazy FC's and otherwise unexpected behavior from a freshly installed ROM means there are leftovers that were not removed from the previously installed rom.
IMHO the device should be completely empty of every bit of software before reinstalling.
Edit: On a side note, I have NOT been able to get an external SD card from recovery which is why I do everything through USB-Mount with the computer.
If you can mount via usb, you could put the ClockWorkMod (CWM) update.zip and recovery file and then reboot with Pwr/Vol+. That should install CWM.
Then you will be able to boot into CWM and repartition or whatever you need to do. Personally I would repatition, clean out the caches, wipe data, etc. and then start with a clean slate.
Hope I have not misunderstood what you need. Hope this helps.

Factory Re-set
Don't know if this will help or not, somtimes you need to clear out the cashe.
Have you tried going into settings and clicking factory reset?
You will lose your user data, but this might be enough to fix the problem. I think you have parts of two installs overlapping each other.
Also, reformatting the SD card sounds like the next step to try if factory reset does not fix the problem.
Third you could NVflash back to stock and then start over. Then do factory reset after each install.
If you have to wipe everything I would suggest formatting your internal sdcard in clockwork to 2048 and 0

If you did a factory reset and nothing happened then the reset didn't work. I would install clockwork recovery from here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=851657
Then boot into clockwork recovery and clear data/cache. You will have to redo the market fix and install your apps. If this doesn't stop the force closes then boot into clockwork recovery and repartition your sdcard to 2048 and 0
I'm having the same problem. I did nvflash and started fresh. Installed CWM making sure to wipe data/cache. I partioned the SD to 2048/0. I installed vegan 5.1 and its update. I think I did everything by the book, yet it still says Unmount in progress. This did not occur when I was running stock.
I tried the sd card from mt Evo as well. It does the same thing. It also does not recorgnize any USB flash installed as well.
I've run out of ideas. Can anyone help?
Thanks very much.

My VEGAn 5.1.1 says same thing but I never have a problem accessing files on it (/mnt/sdcard2). Are you sure you are not confused by the fact that the internal memory is divided into 2 GB "system" and 14 GB SD1?

Be patient, it took forever to mount a thumb drive for the first time and I too had thought something was wrong. Try again after a reboot and a couple of minutes.
Hope this helps
Thanks for trying to help. I pretty much gave up and installed TNT 5.0. I've had the thumb drive in there for 5 minutes but I'll keep it in to see if it shows up. In TNT, the SD card seems to be working/appearing fine.
I really liked Vegan, but I'll keep TNT for at least a few days to see how it does.
Thanks again!

Got a bit of a problem folks,, hope to get some help...
i have been running TNT lite since i got the tab and was up to 4.1 and started getting the acore force closes. so i followed some threads and installed clockwork and did the partition reformate and wipe data,,,,
now when i reboot, it gets the birds splash, and moves to the G-tablet boot image (i have the dancing droid one) and it hangs,,,,,,, nothing....
any ideal how i "fix this"...
thanks for any help because as you can see i am at a stop!

I had some issues with my first tab similar to what you are having. The only way I solved it was by reflashing and wiping all date, which takes you back to the EULA. Good luck.
Do you have functional recovery? I'm guessing yes since you partitioned. Go to recovery and flash the rom again. You can mount the usb drivers in cwm to start usb mass storage so that you can download the rom on your computer and transfer to tablet. You can also put rom on external sd card and install from cwm.
When you partitioned the storage you deleted everything including the os. I believe it warned you of that before you did it.
If no recovery then you will have to nvflash. Search nvflash and bekit to get the nvflash info.
Matt
Make sure you are using bekits .8 CWM release. The latest release of CWM gave me fits, the only thing that would install was CM 7.
This isn't an Android Development topic, its a General topic, but don't worry about it, a mod will move it.
As to the question, like the others said. Use CWM .08, Wipe System, Wipe Cache, Install zip from SD Card, Install your choice of ROM (in your case, TnT Lite 4.1), Install gApps.zip, Reboot system now. That should get you up and running.
I am confused about you saying that you just now installed CWM but have been running TnT Lite. How would you have done that or do you mean you tried to update CWM or do you mean you have been using the stock TnT?
Also, feel free to hop on the #Tegratab IRC on Freenode if you need fast troubleshooting. Someone is usually on there to help

I "think" i tried this last night. I have 4.1.4 Update.zip and recovery folder on an USB stick. In CW, i went to "mount USB" (thinking i could access my USB and install from there) but ???? i didnt see anything and the only options were install update.zip from SD, and from Location but no USB option, and of course no way (that i saw) to brows to another location to "pick" where i wanted to install from.
Im thinking i am missing something with this step, or just plain old doing it wrong..

power off the tablet.
hold vol+ then power till u see recovery key pressed in the upper left corner of the screen. it will appear while the birds are still on the screen. If you get to the g tablet screen power off and repeat till u get into cw recovery.
Using volume +/- to navigate up and down Home to select and back to go back one level
Navigate cw recovery till u see mount usb storage i think its under partitions.
when you see usb mounted hook up the usb cable to the computer to the tablet mini usb port. copy the rom of your choice to the tablet. u only need the update.zip
once copied unmount usb storage.
back out till u see apply update.zip
Install and reboot u will be good to go.
of course flash gapps if u know what that is and want market on the tab.
Enjoy.

CW Won't read your USB drive. The "Mount USB" option in CW is to mount your tablet onto your computer as a USB storage device. By doing so, you can push files over to the tablet's internal storage from your computer.

Agree. That is what I was talking about earlier, I just couldn't remember what it was labelled in CWM. Mount the USB to your PC and push over the file. Then in CWM choose install from sdcard (I think, too lazy to look). Navigate to the rom file and run it. All should be well after that.

[Q] Nexus S is freezing Google Screen

Hi,
I´m Brazilian (sorry for English mistakes). I really need some help. My message will be long, because i´ve read a lot, and tryed a lot of things. Please, if you can, help me. . "Yes, i saw the video!"
When I turn on my Nexus S, It is freezing in GOOGLE SCREEN.
I have read a lot in the web about this problem and try a lot of things, but i cant fix it.
My first test is go to another ROM, I´v tried CyanogenMod and MIUI, but i cant change my ROM.
I´m using a rooted phone "LOCK STATE - UNLOCK", with ClockworkMod Recovery v3.0.2.4.
Nexus S works in the FASTBOOT MODE, and goes OK to RECOVERY MODE.
If I try to acces the SDCARD (Mount, Format, wipe), i received a fail message.
In a google forum, someboy teach that we have to WARM the cell, and if i warm it (in a coffe machine), we can access the sdcard.
When it warmed, i try to FORMAT the SDCARD in a lot of ways (by Cellphone, By windows - Fast Format, using a Panassonic software). The SDCARD works, show the OK format Messages, and when i turn it off, and turn it on, all files are there (They went back, after format).
When I try to install MIUI, Miui doesn´t work, but the cell go to "normal ROM". when it was warm, it works (with a lot of fail messages), when it was warm, it wasnt work.
Thanks for help
so you can connect your phone to your computer en put things on the sd card , but when you try to install a rom, it won't work.. correct? so can you boot up your phone ? because i'm a little confused with the hot and stuff.. try wipe cash and wipe data/factory reset before installing a rom , maybe that will do the trick..

I can connect my phone to my computer (usb).
I can use ADB, and FASTBOOT DOS commands.
I can put things in my SDCARD (when it´s warm), i can delete my old files in my SDCARD. But when i reboot the phone, my new files (roms, normal files) are not there, and my old files that i deleted are there. So, it´s complete insane. when i format the sdcard, the old files come back after i´ve deleted. :-(
I would update your recovery to the new 5.0.1.0 to start. You can do that with fastboot. The older 3.x recoveries had issues with SD cards mounting.
You can also download the factory image files from the development section and use fastboot to return to stock. Try that and let us know what happens
"The hot and stuff".
When the cell phone is HOT (warm), i can access the sdcard.
When it´s in the normal temperature (30ºC , 86ºF), the SDCARD doesnt mount, and nothing works.
If i can turn off the sdcard and use just the normal memory, i think i can use the phone.
Nexus One users can fiz this problem taking the edcard off.
We dont have Samsung warranty at Brazil. :-(
I´ll update my recovery. Thanks. I´ll do it at night, because my coffe machine is not here. lol. Do you have another idea? Does anybody have idea what´s going on about that "warm problem"?

Today i´tried to remove the cd card. i open the nexus s, and i saw that i cant do anything.
the sdcard is not removable, it´s fixed in the motherboard, so, i cried and still have a broke phone. could anyone help me? do you have some idea? i tried to g to samsung at brazil, they said that they cant help, there is no warranty, and i´m by myself.
In your recovery console there's an option that says mounts and storage. Try mounting each of /data, /system, /sdcard, and /cache.
Post any errors you get, exactly as they appear.
Don't be too upset, there's a lot of things we and try before we call it broken. Went through a crisis a lot like yours about a month ago, and trust me when I say that there's a good three days of things we can try
Hey man I here ya on the crisis. But remember you got a Nexus S, these are almost unbrickable. I would recommend finding the ODIN how to here on xda and giving that a shot.

Help! Asus SL101 stuck in CWM, can't mount /sdcard, error mounting /data :(

Hi all.
I've been searching the net for hours for a solution to this issue, to no avail.
I have an Asus Slider SL101 that I wanted to upgrade to KatKiss so here's what I've done...
- Root successfully (1-click transformer root 1.1 from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1689193)
- Installed CWM Recovery (6.0.1.3) successfully (also using above)
- put all the relevant zips (katkiss, gapps, slider comp pack) on the sd card ready for flash
- booted into recovery...
Next I went to wipe data/factory reset... but it froze so I did a hard boot and tried again: same thing.
So I went to install the rom zip from sdcard and I get error message 'can't mount /sdcard/'
Also getting 'error mounting /data' and 'unknown volume for path [/sdcard/].
I can't get back to my original Android settings at all, I'm assuming it's all gone or something. Maybe the reset did work.
The big issue is I can't access the damn zip files on the sd card to install a rom.
I have these ADB tools (with adb and all these random executables and various files scattered about) but if I can't start Android then I can't use them can I?
It's a bit of a mess really. I'm thinking if I can just get the slider to mount the sd card then I can install the rom and I should be back in.
I'm not sure how to go back to stock recovery (whatever that means) so if you advise that I should 'flash' then I'm afraid I'm going to need some clear instruction.
Stupidly, I forgot to do a backup, which is probably half the reason I'm here, although that still doesn't account for the sdcard error...
Anyway, please help a moron out?

Ive got the same problem. CWM cant mount the sd card. Ive been searching for days, but all the links in any solution i did find are outdated. I did read somewhere that it means that the CWM version isnt compitable with the Sl101. I can't find any other/older versions then the Manager i downloaded from Playstore. I want to flash the Twrp Recovery and then the kisskat ROM, compability pack.. Gapps
.etc but i cant seem to get any of that done if CWM can't mount the damn sdcard. (Sorry i got a bit frustrated over this). Ive never rooted anything before so im new to this. Did anyone find a solution for this? Or has an link to some other version of CWM that is compitable to mount the sdcard? Thank you very much in advance)
Probably not what you wanna hear, but I didn't find a solution and had to throw my beloved slider away!

Messed up this time

My K1 has been stock rooted for awhile now, and this past weekend I decided to flash a rom on it. I downloaded everything and went into TWRP to start wiping per instructions.
In my haste I selected to wipe EVERYTHING! Internal, SD, cache- the whole works. Abbot the time the wipe finished, I thought "Oh no, I did not leave anything on there to give the tablet instructions!" No new ROM, no old one either.
I have left it in TWRP since Saturday, afraid to reboot it. I fear it will permanently brick because there isn't anything on there. It is still in TWRP, plugged in.
I tried using am OTG flash drive but TWRP does not see it. I took the SD card out & loaded the new ROM on it, but TWRP does not see it either.
I am using a Linux Mint terminal with ADB commands to do this. Sudo ADB devices sees it, shows the serial #, and says Recovery.
How do I get a ROM on this device and get it functional again? Can I reboot it? To bootloader, or to recovery again? What is my next step?
I am an amateur with Linux, so please, keep the commands simple!
Thank you!
Don't worry it's not broken. Just put your SD card in and mount it (click mount and check usb otg or sd card or whichever media you're using) and you should be able to see your media when you click install and expand devices.
You can also connect your tablet to your pc and simply drag and drop files into its internal storage, your linux pc should be able to see your shield if it's in twrp. Just open nemo (win+E) and place the files you want to flash. Just make sure if you're transfering files from linux to give it a few more minutes after transferimg before unmounting your tablet and starting to flash.
I LOVE YOU, MAN!!! I tried mounting (had not seen that in TWRP before) the SD card, but it still did not see it. I put the OTG drive back in and mounted, it saw it! I proceeded to flash the rom. I had a hard time installing gapps, I am going to reinstall it tomorrow.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your help!

No problem
Make sure you've downloaded ARM and not ARM64 gapps for your android version (7.1.1 or 8.1 depending which ROM you use, you can find the version on the bottom of the first post).
I downloaded the link in the Rom post, but I will double check. Thanks again!

Maybe already lessons learned, but a couple points I often tell folks on these forums:
- The TWRP default WIPE option (which only wipes data, Dalvik and cache) says "this is the only wipe you need most of the time". It says that for good reason, and they mean it when they say that! This default works great for flashing ROMs. Some folks will swear by wiping "system" when flashing a ROM. But this is already done when you flash the ROM, so it really is redundant.
- The option to wipe other partitions (besides the default) is labeled "Advanced" and again, it is called that for good reason. My advice would be, to not wipe anything under this section, unless you know exactly what it is, and what the result will be. There are sometimes valid reasons to do so, such as you want to completely wipe internal storage, and start fresh (various ROMs and apps dump a lot of extraneous stuff there, that never gets cleaned up unless you do so by some manual means). But again, you need to be prepared, such as not having your backups or ROM (that you intend to flash) on the partitions you are about to wipe.
- If/when you do choose to use the Advanced wipe features, always double check (triple check, for that matter) what you are about to wipe. It is easy to click the wrong box, and there will not be any confirmation of what you are wiping once you swipe. It's easy (maybe too easy) to intend to wipe something harmless like cache, but accidentally tap SD card or internal storage.
@redpoint73- Believe it or not, I know that! I did want to wipe the SD Card, and the rest of the tablet, so i could get rid of everything old that was making it lag. Good thought, just not all at one time. Lesson learned!
Nothing was harmed, tablet is better, gained some Linux experience, so all around it was a win!
