Anyone else have problems doing video chat on this phone?
I just got one and it lags a whole lot on skype and google hangout, not to mention poor audio quality. Bandwidth is not a problem- my macbook connected to the same network works just fine.
I've tried freeing up some RAM by killing some apps too, doesn't work.
I just find it hard to believe since my other phone (iPhone 4, running iOS7) handles video chat just fine, and it's over a year older and has less impressive specs than this phone.
Strange, I use Google Hangouts video chat, seems fine here....

Title says it all, will we be able to do a video call with a pc user who is using a webcam?
Qik allows it, so yes.

I'm assuming private chat, not recorded and posted on my qik page. I can't seem to find much about it, does anyone know where I can find more about it?
yes, new app? w/ Qik...
yes, the official launch they said that "an upgrade" (i believe through Qik, an app maybe?) will enable the phone to utilize phone to phone OR phone to pc video calls..."CALLS"...so it must be the case. i guess they foresaw having to compete w/ skype and verizon in this manner...w/ verizon's upcoming vphone (saygus) offering video conferencing software via android, more options may open up than just offered up front at sprint.
Also remember that the 4th gen iPhone will also have a front facing camera, as well as code in the os that point to iChat intergration.
I can't wait till we have an Android app that works with iChat!
This is an upgrade to the qik app or qik account. I wonder if it will cost. That would sure ruin it.
I'm praying for skype to skype video on the Evo.

same, stupid verizon, buying up skype.....
I know I'm half awake, so maybe I missed something, but from what I can see, Qik doesn't have a full desktop/PC app. They seem to be very phone centric.
They do have an app called "Qik-in-Touch" that runs on the desktop and will tell you when your friends are broadcasting publicly (or maybe privately to all friends?) but last time I played with it (when it first went beta), it didn't support webcam on the PC. So it was receive-only on the desktop.
It's something, but not a direct one to one video calling/chat. But maybe they've updated it since the last time I played with it, or maybe I just missed some things.

That's what I was concerned about, I haven't seen anything about being able to video chat to a PC

actually google bought Global IP Systems, they allow skype, qik and so on to have video calling and chat XD so we will see.
Wonder if Google Talk will be getting video chat on the PC and Android phones.
I my opinion that would be great. If you have a Android phone you have a gmail account so it only make sense that it should be coming.

Your prayers have been answered. Fring now supports video chatting with Skype.

Here's another video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2YHrK5gg1Pk
Gizmodo demonstrates video calling from Evo to Evo using Fring - http://gizmodo.com/5549494/fring-for...rom-the-future
Qik does it, but its an extra $5/month, like the post above fring will make skype video calls, or atleast recieve them for now, i havent seen it making a video call yet.

you can do pc to phone and viceversa it receives and makes calls i have already tested it
dont forget skype is releasing video chat on all android devices this year too
Fring is supposed to do skype with the front camera
Tested it today. Two evos both using fring, worked well on our subpar 3G service around here. I did Skype on PC to Fring (logged into a skype account) on an evo. Worked great all the same. I played with fring on an old windows mobile device, and had problems. Today on my evo, the experience was flawless.

Grab & install Fring from the Market. I've been using it for the past 2 days to video chat EVO > PC. PC users on Skype.
NYC is still 3G only, so its pretty bad, but switch to Wifi And I found the quality rather acceptable.
Hey guys, picked up a G Tablet as a holiday gift for someone, and for the money I have to say the hardware isn't too bad (software is tolerable thanks to all the hard working devs out there).
I am having a problem with video chat though. The FFC was a big selling point for me, but as of now I can't find a video chat app that works. Fring gives video, but the speakers just crackle and no audio is transmitted or received. Any idea guys? Would love to at least get Android -> Android video chat going.
In addition (using TnT lite firmware) whenever I start the camera it works fine, but if I exit, then re-enter the camera all I get is a blank screen until reboot. I'm sure software will fix this, but I just wanted to make sure I wasn't the only one.
the yahoo messenger with video add on works ok.
I installed this ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13970225&postcount=332 ) and it looks like it may work but it will not connect. I have the camera icon next to my friends names but my friends don't see me as video chat capable.
Is there a working version of google talk w/video for the tbolt floating around?
Thanks,
Kesnik
tried the same thing and got the same results
I was able to initiate calls and saw the other person, but they did not see me. Orientation was also sideways for the FFC, similar to other video chat programs.
It immediately closes for me when I try to do a video chat (the call, not the Google Talk app). But audio chat works well, however the mute button doesn't work, lol.
From what I understand, Video chat from TB to PC will work, but not TB to TB..
I know it's not available for honeycomb yet, but has anybody tried running it on the transformer?
So far, I have tried google video, fring, and tango and they all had some crappy picture/latency issues. They were also runing on the same wifi between transformer and iphone so I doubt it's a connection issue.
I still have not found a video app that works fluidly like FaceTime or Skype. Too bad skype has not released video chat for android yet. It has been now almost 6 months since it was first launched on iPhone.
So if you know of a video app that works, please share. I'm hoping qik isn't as bad.
Thanks in advance!
I Used Google Chat between My tablet and my Girlfriends Laptop and it worked fine.
Blu Studio owners, please, share your experience about using some video chat apk with the device!
I've tried Skype (that is working only as voice call software, as you know), than Tango, Fring, ooVoo, Yahoo Messenger with video plug-in and others, without much success.
Now I have Fring installed, it sometimes works sometimes not, but it's far from being stable.
I also tried to install the Google Talk video chat version from here, XDA. My phone is rooted, so I could install it as system apk, it run but simply did not offered the voice and/or video call feature. So I put back the original, only written-chat Talk app.
Does anybody have more success with video chat on Studio 5.3?
(Certainly the normal mobile phone video call works well. That is why I think there should be some app that works with this processor and system.)
Thanks,
Tibor
Hi guys,
As you can see I'm new at the forum, but I have a Motorola Atrix 4G, Rooted, Unlocked BOOTLOADER, and with the NOTTACHTRIX ROM Installed with the Darks Side Kernel....

As per the manual, the phone was only test for video telephony. Pure voice (CS or circuit switched) calls with video, not IP video "chatting" like Skype and the likes. Strange, but that's what it seems like.
I've seen in another thread on XDA that somebody could use QIK video chat with BLU Studio 5.3. (Freely downloadable from Play Store.)
I've installed it now. It's really working! It's not the best chat program since the free version is not compatible with any other chat apps (like Skype or Viber) but at least -- works. So, if you want to use free-of-charge video chat with this phone you should convince your family members and friends to also install QIK...
