Please help how to access phone info to change network mode?
I'm trying to change network mode from CDMA auto PRL to CDMA only. I used to change it through phone info app but after upgrading to I535VRUCML1, it is not working anymore. I have seen in the Google play a note from the developer "[email protected]" that the app is not working with Samsung 4.3.
I have also enabled the hidden menu but the code *#*#4636#*# is not working.
My device is already Rooted.
The reason why I want to change from CDMA Auto PRL to CDMA only is that in some areas in my country (in Yemen) the battery will drop very quickly if I'm not on CDMA only.

Navigate to system/efs/carrier and text edit the hidden menu.
It'll say off, delete it and write on in all caps. Reboot your phone and you'll be able to access the hidden menu.
This should work, but the file might not be in that location. if it doesn't work let me know.

I have already donethat beside adding on line "sys.hiddenmenu.enable=1" to /system/build.prop . I can access some hidden menu like enabling DM mode ##366633#, *#06#, *#1234# and some other codes but not *#*#4636#*#*.
Finally I managed to change the network mode through DFS but it would be a lot easier with phone info

If you are running 4.3 ROM I535VRUCML1
Enable hidden menu by Navigating to system/efs/carrier and edit the hidden menu file by writing ON instead of OFF. also add this line "sys.hiddenmenu.enable=1" to /system/build.prop and then reboot.
Enable DM mode by dialing ##366633# and choose enable DM
Now from the DFS navigate programming then NAM and in preferred setting scroll Pref Mode to choose which mode you want for example I wanted to change to CDMA Only so I chose CDMA_IS2000.
Note; If you can not connect through DFS the send 000000 SPC through CDMA workshop and then you can use DFS
My device is not rooted and I would like to use phone info app. Is there a work around? Also what is DM mode?

search google for a copy of the prl file you want then:
1) Copy the downloaded PRL file to the root of your SD card
2) Dial ##775# and enter your MSL code when prompted for password (if you don't know yours, get MSL Reader from the Market)
5) Press "Update PRL"
6) The PRL file should be listed in the bottom half of the screen (you may have to scroll up)
7) Select the (your prl file) and press OK
8) Press MENU and then Commit Modifications
9) Phone reboots and you should be updated.
dont know if step 8 is still included. but there is a way to do it.
*#*#775#*#* is invalid on ics.

Great stuff, thanks alot for the peace of mind! I was one of, if not the first to have this IMEI wipe thing with Imoseyon's first test of the leankernel, and been wary of it ever since.
PLEASE NOTE: This appears to require a stock kernel. I was on Imoseyon's latest v2 beta (non-kexec) and could not get this to work properly. Simply went into cwm and flashed the return-to-stock zip that he has listed in his thread on rootz and tried again, and it worked perfectly! Just be sure to follow ALL steps in this exact order, and you'll be golden.
Great write up bro. I really appreciate the extensive instructions! Super easy and fool proof

After that open any cut. create a shortcut to the hidden menu. to do this click on new shortcut. then click on activity. scroll down until you see IOTHiddenMenu. click on it . it should make a short cut to the hidden menu.
Once in the menu, choose the option for USBSettingsMenu, then choose the option RMNET+DM+MODEM.

by now you know that the hidden menu will not open in most custom roms. this does not apply to aosp roms or aokp . here is what i did
and as usual if u bork your phone nmp. so dont get mad at me

Now go to your phone, its time to enable the hidden menu. On Verizon or Sprint, go to the dialer and dial *#22745927 . Choose the option to enable the Hidden Menu.
Hook up the phone to the PC via USB at this time if you haven't already. This option works on STOCK TOUCHWIZ (it can be rooted).
OK. Now go to your PC Control Panel. We need to get into the Device Manager to determine where your phone is being recognized as far as the COM ports. For this, go to System -> Device Manager (on the left) or System -> Hardware -> Device Manager (depends on your Control Panel setup). Anyways, scroll down to Ports (may say Ports & LTP, Serial, depends on version). Anyways, find your phone under it, and take note of the COM# (mine was COM9, yours can and probably will vary). If you have exclamation marks anywhere then install the Samsung drivers and try again.
OK. Now go to Start Menu -> All Programs -> QPST -> QPST Configuration
Click on the Ports tab. Click on Add New Port, then add your Port# where it says Port and name it something you can remember. Hit OK.
Now click on Start Clients -> Software Download. Click on the Backup tab. Make sure your phone is listed under Port. If its not, hit Browse, choose the COM that is your phone, and hit OK. Now where it says QCN File, hit Browse, find a safe spot to store your backup on your PC, and name it. Hit OK. Now hit Start. Make sure backup gets to 100% with no errors.
Congratulations, you now have your backup made! Flash away!
Don't forget to go into your phone hidden menu again and change USB mode back to MTP so you can use it to access the phone storage.
If it bricks sometime in the future:
Go back into QPST. Go to Start Clients -> Software Download. Click on the Restore tab. Make sure your phone is listed under Port. If not, browse to the appropriate COM port. Choose your QCN backup in the other box. Click Start, let it finish. Phone should reboot. If it fails rebooting, just do a manual reboot. First boot will take a bit, let it do its thing.
AS PER THE USUAL, I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR WHAT YOU DO TO YOUR DEVICE! IF YOU FOLLOW THESE STEPS -TO A T- YOU SHOULD HAVE NO ISSUES, BUT QPST IS A VERY POWERFUL PROGRAM, SO KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING!
HAPPY FLASHING!

It's common sense. Man if the guide said to open tapatalk and you didn't have the app one would assume you download it. That way you can open it

Hi Friends
I have been following the forum for a year and have finally registered as i found a question to which there is no solution i could find yet . .
I have a rooted Atrix 2 running NUMA http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1960679
Its one of the best and most stable ROMS i have tried but i am facing one issue on it . .
I'm not able to use wifi tethering on my phone . .
A network is created and my nexus 7 connects to it but the internet simply does not work!
Any tricks to make it work?
Have FXZed several times and done fresh installs but no luck
Tried some apps to kick start it but they caused a reboot so i uninstalled . .
any fix for it?
Bump!
still awaiting a response . .

I've never had that problem, or any problem on NUMA. If I did, though, I would re-download the ROM and start over.
Did/do you have any additional mods or tweaks installed? Xposed framework and modules, for example?
If I had a dollar for every time I said that, I'd be making money in a very weird way.
I tried that . .even FXZed my phone . . . .
btw does it make a difference as i have an indian Atrix 2 MB865 but this rom is based on AT&T ICS?

Try changing you apn type to 'not set' in apn settings
Screenshot APN
Hi Guys i did read about the APN settings however i am not able to edit the APN settings and there is a lock on it . .
I have attached screenshot of the settings . .
Also i noticed another issue recently . .The phone auto reboots if i try to transfer files via Superbeam before QR code gets generated
Could this be a related issue as it also uses wifi tethering indirectly?

You can find apn settings for Airtel on internet. Just keep 'apn type' to 'not set' in apn settings.
This worked fine for me on Vodafone
Internet tethering is now working for me thanks to these settings i found. .
On the device, tap the Settings icon
Choose Wireless & Networks (or Wireless Controls)
Choose Mobile Networks and then Access Point Names
Press the Menu key and then New APN
Select Name, enter: Airtel GPRS and tap OK.
Select APN, enter: airtel-ci-gprs.com
Scroll down to APN TYPE and enter: default or (Select : Internet)
Press the Menu key and select Save
Tap on Airtel GPRS to turn it on
However I'm still unable to use Superbeam!
Phone restarts if i try to send anything through it . .
I took the update because I boot looped my phone trying to upgrade to a rooted stock version of Kit Kat.
After going to stock I lost root and of course custom recovery. As many have noticed, there is no viable tether app that works with Kit Kat on this device. In doing a search it appears that this is the case with many devices that have gotten Kit Kat.
So I did a search and through several different threads I believe I have found the workaround.
I am new to doing "How-To's" so please forgive me if this is not as professional as others. I am not a developer but have some knowledge of working with various facets of Android. So, here goes:
1. Go to settings--> Tethering and networks ---> Mobile networks --> Access point names
2. Under Access point names, you should have T-Mobile LTE
3. Click menu ---> New APN
4. Name --> Whatever you want
5. APN ---> should say "Not Set" change to "Fast.T-Mobile.com"
6. APN Type--> type "default,supl,mms,dun"
7. APN Protocol --> Be sure it says "IPv4"
8. Menu--> Click save
9. Change APN to the newly created Access Point
10. Download : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.foxfi
11. Download the PC app (if needed)
12. (Optional) Download: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.foxfi.key
Follow instructions on setting up FoxFi which I will not cover here.
I am using this now to type this thread. It is a little buggy but I think that is FoxFi not necessarily this method of tether. I have to at times disable/re-enable the PC app if I lose connection.
I hope this helps folks out there.

Nothing wrong, works perfectly fine. This is an alternative means through a different app providing a means to tether without utilizing a set amount of data provided by carrier.

Yes, speeds are comparable. Only issue, and I believe this is with PDANet/FoxFi is you at times have to reset the connection on the computer. I am running Windows 7 BTW
Wait, is it not easier way to do this:
(if you have root)
1. download SQlite editor app from G.Play (pay for it few bucks)
2. search for com.android.providers.settings and open it
3. open "settings.db" then "global" and under "tether_dun_required" change 1 to 0,
save and turn on tethering without any limits.... Just after reboot you need to set 1 to 0 again to make it work...
I saw it somewhere around and that worked for me!
(Didn't have to change or create new APN.
(This is possible solution for NON-T-mobile users of D801 model, because I'm one..)
That is if you have root. As stated in the OP this is a workaround for those that have lost root via 4.4.2.

This solution IS for system tethering.
If you have rooted device, system tethering works like a charm with this.
Also, this works even if you are not T-mobile user, meaning, you SIM unlock device and you can tether with any SIM on any network in the world...
I guess those guys who updated OTA to 4.4.2 will have to wait root for D801. I saw there is a way to flash KitKat in recovery and immediately superuser.zip after that...
I'll personally go for that way.
Doesn't seem to work for me. Tried using my tablet connected to foxfi hotspot and got the usual T-Mobile error notice that hotspot isn't enabled when I opened the browser.
You can also setup a vpn to connect to and it won't redirect you to the upsell page if you get that issue

Edit: seems to be working so far, spent half an hour on the tablet and the tmobile app shows no increase in the hotspot data usage
Ok. Let me try and clarify. The step by step in the OP can be used on any ROM but is specifically useful for those like me that took the update to 4.4.2 and lost root.
When using FoxFi app it is recommended that you use USB tether mode. Also you need to hide your activity but I'm not going to cover that. I Will leave that to others.

Then one thing is left to be clarified:
Do I need to use that T-mobile APN? Because that won't work for me or every other user that haven't T-mobile SIM card, obviously...
So, do you think that is safe to assume that method from OP will work for me if I use my regular APN?
I can't speak to other carriers directly. But, the simplest way to tell; if you use the app and it does not "trip" your carrier hotspot app then you should be good.
Sent from my LG-D801 using xda app-developers app
Neither of these methods worked for me. FoxFi kept telling me that I didn't have an internet connection and editing my com.android.providers.settings database kept reverting to "1" after a reboot. After the latter method, I temporarily lost the functionality of my home button and root went away. I thought I was going to have to flash back to 4.2.2 for second. Thankfully after a few reboots and a restored file all was good.
Edit: OK, I finally got FoxFi working. I guess I didn't read the directions completely. But this didn't stop my tethering data usage from going up.
Make sure you have the settings in FoxFi set to hide internet usage. If you need my settings for that, let me know.
Sent from my LG-D801 using xda app-developers app
I have actually tried both methods and get them to work.
Now, I'm on 4.4.2 stock, I didn't took the OTA update - instead I've flashed that 1.4GB KK update trough TWRP, and then superuser.zip. It wasn't easy, especially because I didn't have TWRP installed at all and OTA was downloaded (kinda without my permission, in background, and then I got that notification....)
So, now, I'm on KK stock, rooted, but I'm not sure if I got recovery... and guess what, I don't care...
Both tethering methods work for me, bud since is easier I use system tether.
What I'm trying to say is: Don't take OTA guys if you have root, flash trough recovery your KK and you will keep root, you can tether, you keep your data and apps... It isn't the easiest way but it is the one with most satisfying result..

Hi,
As you may know, you cannot enter the secret codes (e.g. *#0011#, *#27663368378#...) on a device that has not been enabled the HiddenMenu.
I need someone to help me to test if these codes work on your device by using my app: Shortcut Master.
Here is how:
- Install Shortcut Master app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vndnguyen.shortcutmaster.lite
- Go to menu 'Secret Code Explorer', select your desire code (e.g. 0011, 27663368378, 0228, etc...) and tap to launch it.
- You can select 'Launch 0' or 'Launch 1' to test if it work. 'Launch 0' requires ROOT access.
Please kindly test and feedback. Thanks.
Hrm I just changed /efs/carrier/HiddenMenu with a root browser and changed it from OFF to ON and reboot, all codes work just fine.

Thanks.

Yes, I see. I have also faced with the same problem as you
I can't remember but there is a code that clear the APN settings. To fix it, you have to add the APN manually:
open Settings --> More networks --> Mobile networks --> Access Point Names --> + to add
If you don't know what parameters to input, you may have to contact your service provider (your mobile operator) for help.
