I recently purchased an S3 off of craigslist. It already had the latest version of CyanogenMod. I want to update the baseband version. Currently it is on I535VRLHE. What is the latest version I can flash it to without bricking?
Current setup
CM 10.2.1-d2vzw
I535VRLHE
Basically, i want to update my phone to CM 11, but i want to make sure it is done right.

VRUCML1 is the most recent baseband. You can flash full firmwares up to MF1, but only flash the ML1 baseband (or radio, modem.) They can all be found here as well as an explanation as to why you can flash only the radio on ML1:

Thank you for that. I read it once and didn't understand it. Read it again and made a little more sense of it. Came across this
1.) Install d2vzw_VRBMF1_firmware.zip
2.) Install d2vzw_ML1_modem.zip
Can I just use twrp to flash these? That is my current recovery.

Hey guys,
I'm relatively new to playing with Android roms, and currently have a HTC Sensation.
I've worked out the kernel that I want to use (SebastianFM Overclocked kernal), the rom that I want to use (AndroidRevolta - slimmed down Virtuous Inquisition) but I wondering about the firmware. My phone is current unrooted, running stock ICS. Do I need to upgrade the firmware before I can flash this rom?
Thanks
to install another rom firstly you have to be rooted
secondly if you want to flash a firmware manually you have to be S-OFF
now about the rom you want to use i think as far as i know requires the latest firmware

Yeah, I know that it needs to be rooted first.
I've just seen things that say you need the latest firmware to run ICS, and I wasn't sure if that came with the offical ICS update.

Yes. Firmware is updated with latest ICS update.
If you have latest ICS update then you dont need to flash firmware again.

Is the firmware flash only for phones that don't have an offical ICS update?
So I can just root, install CWM and flash kernal and rom?
Hello? Yes, I'm a noob. I tried to read and understand, but was not able to.
I have bootloader unlocked and rooted 4.4.2 stock in my m8.
I want to install the 4.4.3 roms.
My simple question would be what are the steps to get 4.4.3 radio? installed
wait to make it clear you only want the radio of 4.4.3 or the whole rom ?
but if you want to install the rom you need to have sometype of custom recovery after you installed that (you can do it through rom manager app on google play)
after that choose your rom that you wanted to install and then just flash it using the custom recovery

You didn't mention your carrier, but essentially you want to update to the latest firmware first, then flash a 4.3 ROM. To get to the latest firmware you either take an OTA from your carrier, which requires being completely stock with stock recovery and no changes to system, or flash a firmware file that someone has extracted from the OTA package. The latter is imo easier if you are already on a custom recovery. The development forum for your carrier likely has a post dedicated to updating firmware.

Go to link i posted to get your vzw firmware up to date. An fyi when you said radios you meant firmware an the radios is inside the firmware zip. After you update firmware you can flash 4.4.3 ROMs.

There is also a video in op. If you have a SD card I would go with that method but watch video read op an few times an if you still have questions hit me back.
I'm gave my daughter my old S3 for Christmas and I want to get it up to date.
It's running a Clean 4.1.2 ROM from back in the day. TWRP is like on v 1.x (I kid you not). I think the bootloader is unlocked because there is no Safestrap. It goes right into TWRP, no "slots".
I want to get her up to 4.3 at least, 4.4 hopefully. I tried to download on of the new ROMs but TWRP didn't even see it so I'm suspecting I need to upgrade TWRP first?
anywho...looking for a path to the latest ROMS...would rather not lockup the bootloader unless someone can make a good case for it.
Thank you very much in advance.
God Bless,
Matt

Yes you need to update twrp to the latest version. And your bootloader almost has to be unlocked because if it wasn't you would not be able to install a custom recovery.
I would go with a custom rom, stay away from bootloader locked roms. There's nothing special about the new TW 4.4.2 rom other than it locks the bootloader down tight, as far as roms that's your own choice but I'd do some reading before I did anything
From my S3 running BlissStalk
You can grab the latest twrp here http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/d2vzw
Both .tar and .img files, the .tar requires Odin and you can install the .img through an app called flashify (requires root), its in the play store. After that read some of the ROM threads. You might want to also update your firmware and baseband. Most of the ROM threads will recommend this and give you links to proper firmware, making sure not to lock the bootloader.
Good luck

Hi all
I have a verizon one m8 which runs stock 4.4.2 it is rooted, s-offed by sunshine and has TWRP recovery.
The LTE bands are open but when there is an available LTE network there are some network problems and many disconnections occur. (mainly when entering the LTE area)
I tried some various fixes but nothing worked so I want to update to a customized lollipop firmware.
I did search a -lot but didn't find what are the steps to update.
Can anyone guide or direct me please?
Huge Thanks
Parnuk
If you are just looking to update the firmware here is a link for you. If I were you I would consider a newer ROM to go along with the new firmware.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2723159
thanks!
Some more questions please :
Can my current Rom run with this newer firmware?
Will it still be rooted?
What are the chances to get bricked
To get a newer Rom, should I wipe and then install it from twrp after the firmware update?
last one: this all has nothing to do with the recovery, right?
Sorry for the nooobity, it's all so different comparing to my old SGS

You can but the chances of something going wrong are higher. Flash TWRP with fastboot, then firmware with fastboot, then ROM with TWRP is your best bet.
This is what is installed on my device: TWRP 3.0.2-3 / android 6.01 (I THINK it's a bit modified rom) / SM-G930FD
I rooted asap I bought it few years ago, I want to update to the latest Nougat version 7.0.0 (I think the 7.1.2 is not officially released, right?)
All I need is stock (slightly modified is also ok) + root and don't mind formatting it to start from the scratch.
What are my options and/or what should I do? Thanks for reading!
Flash the latest stock ROM with Odin, then root.

Thanks for the reply.
Can't the TWRP do the same thing? If I flash using the Odin, will I lose the TWRP?
You need to use Odin to flash a stock ROM which will cause you to lose root and twrp.

I recommend matching the ROM to the original carrier.

It's an international unlocked version, does it have a "carrier"? How do I find it? I'm located in Japan and imported this phone.
You can install the Samsung Phone Info app from the Play Store to find out the csc and match that to the ROM.
