external SD card question - General Questions and Answers

Hello. I'm quite new to this forum so I may not know where to post. Sorry about that.
So my question is,
I have an old external sd card. It was for my old phone (Sony Ericsson w705). The phone was stolen long ago (I think it was back in 2009). So now, knowing the device is not here, how could I gain the data that I have on that old sd (memory) card?
Of course I did try placing that card into my new smartphone but apparently it requires the latest external sd cards the micro sd cards which are slightly smaller than the old ones. It does not fit in the slot.
Here's a picture of the old (and a new one) sd card;

the upper one is the old card from which I want to get the data(s)
So is it possible -is there any method- to get the data from the old card without having the actual device (sony ericsson w705 or similar to fit the slot)?

You'll have to search for M2 card adapter: http://www.ebay.co.uk/bhp/m2-adapter
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk

Thats not an sd-card, that is an m2-card (memorystick-micro), a special format from/ for sony.
Get an m2-cardreader/ -adapter, if you realy need those files.

Hi,

Urgent Help With SD Card (I'm in tears over this one)

I LOVE MY XDA2
Let's not kid ourselves this is one fine piece of kit.
I have had it for about 4 weeks now and played with it, soft resetting, hard resetting, installing, uninstalling etc
I have all the best software ready to go and want to compress some comedy dvd's onto my gadget to watch on the move.
So - off I go to the local computer store and purchased a 128mb SD memory card ('kingmax" is the brand - rubbish I know but this isn't my problem)
Put it in - it doesnt' recognise it
Took the card back - tried another - put it in - no sign it's in there..
Went to Dixons - bought an 'Impact' 256mb card in - put it in and again - no sign it's there..
Am I doing something REALLY stupid here ?
Does the card need formatting before it's seen in 'storage' ?
There's absolutely no sign that there's a card in my XDA2
Any ideas or is the SD slot babbered ?!?
Do you have a card reader? The xda should offer to format it for you when you insert it. You could try storage tools which is a free download but if your xda isnt seeing the card it may not help. You can format it in a card reader through windows.
Thanks.
I'll try that.
I'll purchase a card reader/writer and try formatting them that way - but I don't hold out much hope as I seem to be the only one with this problem that I can see on here !??
Mine did the same and I tried formating. It sounds weird but after months of playing with it I realized that it only likes certain cards. So far it takes every sancard, but hates pny.
SD Cards on iMate and XDA II
Hi All,
We sell the iMates and XDAIIs and have found similar issues with "generic" cards and many of the slower Sandisk card etc.
We always recommend using the better Lexar SD cards or other "Ultra" card types and format them in a reader to Fat32 BEFORE shipping.....
In short - Don't get a slower card (read CHEAP) or a Generic unless you can test it BEFORE you buy it as most will cause problems.
Good luck
Andy

MicroSD slot...

I took out my microsd card from my old 8525 and put it in my fuze and it will not read it. I put it back in my 8525 and it reads it fine. I also use an adapter for my pc and windows reads it fine. Just got the phone today about 20 minutes ago. Could the microsd slot be bad? and YES I am putting it in the correct way. The SD cad is a 2GB kingston.
2GB SD cards are picky. I have a 2GB card in my camera that my laptop will only recognize about 50-75% of the time, although I've never had a problem with it in my camera nor with the card reader I have plugged into my other computer. Of course, it could be a defective slot in the phone, too. The only way to tell is to try with another card (preferably a different size).
microSD cards are cheap. I'd suggest getting a 4GB or 8GB card and seeing if the phone accepts that; if so, just use your pc to copy all the data from the old card onto your hard drive and then onto the new card. If not, you've still got a new card as well as evidence that the phone needs to be replaced.

Wanting to buy a new sd card

When i first bought my phone I put in an old 2g card I had , but nowe I want to buy a bigger size one maybe a 16g , but my question is would I be able to transfer everything from my old one to my new one? if so how?
If you have a card reader, just copy the contents from the old card to the new. If not and you can only use your phone as a card reader just copy the contents from the card to your computer and then back on to the new card.
what jsapp said. though if you don't have a card reader you could always just transfer the content on your old SD card to the internal memory of your tablet then onto the new card. would take longer but it'll do the trick.

[Q] 8gb Micro SD card not recognized

Hello. Recently just got a 8gb class 6 micro sd card for my HTC Desire (CDMA). When I put the card it it's not being picked up by the phone. Not giving me any kind of error message in the notification bar, just acts like no SD card is installed. My previous card was an 8gb class 2 card that came with the phone, so I know it can do high capacity. Threw the card in a card reader and re-formatted it FAT32, still nothing. Tried putting the card in a friends Samsung Galaxy and it picked up fine. Also my old card still works when I put it back in the phone, so I'm truly stumped here. The phone is rooted but Im not running any custom roms..
Well i think the problem in in your phone. Maby some dust on those golden pins or something you cound try another card to check if its the card or phone itself.

My old card works fine in my phone, and the new card worked in a friends phone, and on my PC. Tried re-formatting (FAT32 and FAText) and naming the volume. For some reason my phone just won't pick it up. No error messages or anything, just acts like there is no micro sd card in it.

SD Card slot failed

On my tf300t the sd card slot will no longer hold the sd card in, when you push sd card into the sd card slot there is no "click" followed by the sd card being locked into place, spring seems to work ok as I can shoot the sd card across the room lol. If I hold the sd card in place it will mount ok.
Does anyone know can the entire sd slot be replaced ? Is it a modular thing or solder into the a board ?
If it is replaceable where can I order the replacement part (aside from asus assuming they sell replacement parts) ?
The tablet is about 1.5 years old, sd card slot should last longer very disappointed in quality of tf300t.
Thanks in advance,
Tony

Thanks for the link, I took a look at the Step 2 photo, and it appears the sd card slot is attached to board, and that board can be removed and replaced, appears to be several ribbon connectors.
Now just have to figure out where to get the part.
Thanks

The slot is soldered onto the daughter card which also controls the touchscreen. It can be removed and replaced, but some skills are required. Otherwise, just buy a used one off ebay. Turn the service switch off, or disconnect the battery BEFORE touching anything inside the tab. Otherwise, you risk frying components. After replacing the daughter card, you might have to reflash the firmware to make it work with your current digitizer. Be patient when working on it.
