[Q] My phone displays "Warning Camera Failed" - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Hi all,
I have searched and read a lot before thinking about posting here, i just bought my Verizon galaxy s3 of eBay a day ago and i have some experience in Galaxy S3 tmobile and att, the camera error is something i'm familiar with, and it's usually a software issue that i solve by normal procedures starting from just restarting the device and ending with flash to stock rom, but i'm telling you this time is different the verizon s3 came with the problem and i have tried everything i know and pretty much every solution i found on XDA.
Conclusion:
- rear camera keeps giving the error message " Warning Camera Failed"
- front camera works by third party app "camera fx"
- rear camera has been replaced by another known working camera "still same error"
- here is what will make it even more weird device won't execute any *# codes and by "any" i mean any code.
- everything else seems to be working fine.
so any ideas

So you replaced the camera, reflashed back to stock rom and tried a few third party apps and the camera still not working..sounds like a mother board is defective.

yes, i have done all that and more, the other problem that i can't really understand is the codes that the mobile wont execute.

Camera not initializing

Hi,
Since today I have a new problem - when trying to start the camera by pressing the camera button or via rograms I got the message "Unable to initialize camera. Failed to set up the camera device."
I have the original ROM, nothing modified. Some days ago I was making pictures with the phone, worked well. I have not installed any programs since then.
Any ideas for workaround?
Also sorry if I'm repeating another thread, tried to search but found nothing.
Thanks,
Boyan
Guys, am I the only one who has experienced this???
Yeah I haven't had this issue before. Have you tried a soft-reset? Maybe a backup of your ROM when the camera used to work? As a last resort, I hate to say it but you could always try a hard-reset?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=375474&highlight=CAMERA
I have the same problem
Exactly the same behaviour
when I try to start the camera I get an error box (rotated) with white square : " camera
impossible to initialize the camera.Failure of camera peripheral configuration"
it was working OK 10 days ago and I didn't change anything from this date except making a sprite backup.
Loading a 1 month backup didn't help neither a full hard reset (same behaviour just after the hard reset)
Looks like a harware failure, Ilook for a hardware test software for the camera ????
Trying to solve, I looked at the camera launching process, I've found a link like:
_camera.lnk
that contains:
21#"\Windows\Camera.exe" ?CameraRc_Grey.dll,-1106
any idea if that is normal content, looks curious for a link especially the interrogation point mark?
What about the -1106 figure ?
Is it possible that this link being corrupted ?
Otherwise, I phone to HTC technical support and the fact that the error stays just after a hard reset lead to think its a hardware failure; however loks teribly like a software pb....or a dry soldering point? They told me to bring the phone to a fixing office in Paris area delay announced to repair between 1 and 7 days
Any other help welcomed
problem disappear
hi rvgpoi,
the good news are that the problem disappear, the bad news are that I have no idea why...
I have not made hard reset (in fact, never), just couple of soft resets... but after that the camera was NOT working... couple of days later, i just wanted to show the problem to a friend of mine - and it was working...
I'm pretty pissed from HTC support - I have mailed them for this problem, and still no answer (1 week). This is not acceptable for a decent company.
In order to try to see where the problem is - can you tell me how to look at that:
_camera.lnk
that contains:
21#"\Windows\Camera.exe" ?CameraRc_Grey.dll,-1106
to see what is the value (while camera working)...
Good luck with your camera
Yes, same for me.
I am using Start->Program --> Camera.
I think that we should wait HTC support center for this problem.
Camera fails to initialize
Hello all,
I have the same problem exactly. I have the device for 6 weeks. Camera worked for two weeks. Stopped working for a week and then returned for a few days then failed again with the same message you guys got. I have done a number of hard resets- does not help. I am in a country with NO HTC service center and sending it to Europe will deprive me of my only phone for a long time. HTC Europe has NOT replied to my email from 3 weeks ago.
Any ideas? Rom update-if exists? Reinstall Rom? Any other ideas???
Jeremy
Solution, maybe
Guys,
my camera suddenly started to work again, I was extremly happy, activated GPS photo, took some pictures with coordinates, when i tried the camera later that day - it did not worked again. restarts, resets - nothing helped.
the next day I took out the battery for 10-15 minutes - and when I put it back, the camera worked!!!
Today the camera is not working again - and currently my battery is out. Let's see what will be the result.
Good hunting
Camera fails to initialize
I should have mentioned other problems that might be releavant- Bleutooth does not turn on from the momeent I purchased, touch pad is sometimes very slow for initial reaction. I have NO added programs beyond manafacturer originals.
Same problem...
Hi,
I'm a newbie, I didn't think that there was a so big and interesting forum about pdas and, especially, for my htc polaris...
I've got the same problem with the cam...
When I turn on the device, cam works fine...
After a while, it continue working...
After some hours, it stops working.
I have a full original firmware on it:
ROM: 1.25.408.1 12/12/2007
Radio: 1.58.21.23
Proto: 26.65.30.04H
I also tried to contact support, but with no responses, at the moment...
I also searched for a original upgrade (for the warranty), but nothing...
I think the problem is in apmd (or similar else) os daemon.
I think the os turn off cam device for power savings, and after it is not able to restart it before launch camera.exe program, that returns that strange message...
I searched in registry with ceregeditor if it is possible to disable power saving for a single device, to make a test, but I'm not a so good mobile engineer.
A newbie question:
The upgrade WM 6.1 bepe 0.67 can resolve this problem?
And again: if I upgrade anyway, I lose my warranty?
Camera fails to initialize
I called up the UK support center. After going over the problem with them I was told to return the device for servicing. Seems they will have to do a new Flash Rom. Two weeks without the device at least and I have to pay for international courier.
the problem still stays... this time removing the battery didn't help.So I'm again camera-less. Still no reply from HTC.
I'm also with original firmware:
ROM: 1.25.405.1 12/12/2007
Radio: 1.58.21.23
Proto: 26.65.30.04H
as you see the rom is different, same problem. In my case turning off the device does not help - the camera is not working even after switching it back on.
Are you able to deactivate power savings for cam?
Another think:
Your rom version is older than mine,
Perhaps a new rom version resolve the problem,
but is not original version, and we should ask to cooked new rom developer if they have found something wrong in cam device apmd functions...
I have the same problem, but for my TC it is simply resolved by doing a soft-reset and starting the camera after it's ready..
still annoying though..
same problem here,
sometimes cam will work but it to often will not. :/
sure ift the cam even dont in factory default config (hard reset) it is broken.
I got longest working duration in factory default, approx one to two weeks.
using third party binaries the failure appears randomly.
Im pretty sure this is a software issue, else a soft rest wont fix it, eh ?!
workaround:
one but very poor solution is, once the cam starts, _never_ quit it, just minimize.
yep, I know ... but the only way I found atm.
// update //
approx one day without any probs and I used nearly every feature of my device....
Im not familiar with the CCD chip technology, I dont know if there is any possibility for burn-in effects, therefore I switched to the front cam for "stand by" and got the good old failed to ini ... error immediately when I tried to switch back to the rear cam.
now I will test if the front cam is got the same error ...
and I'll get some info if 24/7 on can harm the ccd chip
// update //
I have my cam now approx one week always on and have no problems at all.
I have got no news about cam.
I called htc support, they told me to install a fix for camera that I found in htc e-club.
But that fix is not for our problems, is for camera quality.
I installed it but the problem still remain.
Sometimes it goes, sometimes no...
try that :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=391455
don't work
The sd memory isn't a solution,
because I have 1985MB free of 2GB.
If you soft-reset and don't work again,
Take the pda off without the battery for some minutes.
The cam will works again,
but after some time goes down again!!!

[Q] AOKP Build 3 issues. (Hope to get some help)

So I flashed my device with this ROM. All good and dandy,no problems with the flashing proccess. After it,I've noticed a couple of problems that kind of upset me.
1) I can't play any video (not even from Youtube)
2) My camera doesn't work at all.I get an error saying " Unfortunatly, the Camera has stopped " . Atleast that's what it says in my own language.
I hope I can get some help on this, and please be a bit more specific and detailed.I'm new to this and I'm not realy accomodated with all the high tech terms and methods. In short,I'm a noob when it comes to this. Thanks in advance.
What can I do to fix these issues?
Oh and I've just noticed. It doesn't recognize me SIM card. No error nothing. It just doesn't work.

1. Videos are not working yet on ICS
2. Camera doesnt fully work yet on ICS aswell
If you have a sim lock code for your sim card you need to turn this off as it is a known bug in ICS
You should have searched first before you posted this to find solutions
Yes I've done some research (sorry I didn't do it earlier,I was realy busy and stressed about the issues I had) and yes,I've got an SIM PIN for my SIM but I can't realy deactivate it since, when ever I go to the Settings>Security menu...the SIM unlock settings are grey (unavailable)
flash another ROM, remove sim lock then flash aokp.
Sent from my GT-I5800 using xda app-developers app
If you want to play some videos on your phone, you have to install some video player from market. You could then play videos from sd card. I preffer MX Player. Youtube will not work.

[Completed] ITEL 1452 : Camera Error, Can't Connect To The Camera.

ITEL 1452 : Camera error, can't connect to the camera.
Hello to all members of XDA,
My name is Fehren and I have a problem you submit, I heard the good of your site , you told me that you are the best.
In recent weeks, my phone 's ITEL 1452 camera does not work, every time I try to take a photo is the message that appears: " Camera error, can't connect to the camera. " I did a screen capture so you have the information on my laptop and the problem
I tried to solve the problem:
- by resetting my phone,
-by suppressing the system 's camera and since then I am unable to reinstall camera.apk
the ability of the application is now 32ko
What should I do so that the mo camera phone working again ?
I really need your help. Thank you
Hi,
I can't find anything relevant on XDA for your device and issue. But normally these issues can be hardware related... But more often it's another app keeping your camera busy so the camera app can't use it. Look at recent apps you've installed. Especially anything that uses the camera at all.
If that doesn't help you will need to ask for help here,

Good luck!

Could be a physical connection issue between the camera module and the board, but check other things first, such as removing the SD card, trying it, re-inserting it and trying again also put "Camera access failed" into our search box, there are a lot of threads about this, not just for your phone model but others. A hard reset can also be tried, but you'll lose saved data on the phone.
In the end if you conclude it must be a physical connection issue, you can try tapping around the camera but don't be too rough. Otherwise, after trying a hard reset then you'll likely need a repair shop if your not good/experienced with disassembly.

It started happening to me as well.
However in my case I've managed to (partially/temporary) solve it by going to Boost+ and change from "Optimize" to "Don't optimize" for following apps: Google Play Store, Google Services Framework, Phone, People.
That did it for me for most crashes but Play Store still behaves weird and the only way to prevent Play Store and it's ridiculous crashes is to do in these steps exactly: as soon as you open Play Store > swipe from left > click on Play Protect > and just go back > Play Store won't crash at all.
I haven't tried resetting so I can't tell if that would solve but there are few posts regarding insane crashes related to Play Store and Boost+.
Might be different for you but you might give it a try

No worries mate
Sorry to hear that it gotten worse
Most of my issues were caused by Boost+'s aggressive power saving option(optimization?) and going though every app that I think does not need any power saving options I just set it to "Don't optimize". Strangely enough - this did help but it is far from solution.
Yeah, phone does have some serious issues such as what I've recently discovered on my unit is if you have 2 SIM cards inserted* and someone calls you or you call** someone sometimes(very often) it freezes right away. By that I mean screen stops responding completely, ignoring any touch input or vol up/dn, power button or anything at all you just have to wait until it crashes on it's own and pulls it self back together.
On first try or after 2nd or 3rd call, it doesn't even have to be answered it will freeze and will 100% soft-reboot. Before it crashes during the call you can perfectly communicate with person on the other end without any problem but sadly it is timed as it is going to soft-reboot.
(dual sim phone and has issues with it's very own purpose of having 2 SIM cards)
*Inserted and active: it doesn't matter if you switched one SIM card off or another one it still happens (Dual SIM manager settings) Maybe my phone doesn't like that there is 1 UK and 1 HR (Croatian) sim cards together? Maybe has to be both UK or both HR? Can't verify that, sorry. Never had dual sim phone before.
**It does not matter is it SIM1 or SIM2 as it happens on both.
Not sure if it's just my unit or I am doing something wrong that is causing this, couldn't find anything online with this problem.
I can reproduce that issue at any given time but have no idea how to debug this problem sadly.
However in my case I no longer need the 2nd SIM card (HR) and now have microSD card inserted.
To summarize
Phone itself is great, I really love the camera (and DNG pictures) and video recording (60 fps all the time), battery lasts incredibly long way better than anything I had before!
I've completely purged play store as it has no purpose to me and I can live without that, coming from previous incredibly bad phones I am not worried about that.
But because of this serious Dual SIM problem, sadly, I can not and will not recommend this phone to anyone.
Only way is to have patience if HTC is going to release patch for this, but looking though U11+ posts, this might take a while.
Personally I'm not worried, I've rooted and flashed TWRP/CWM on all previous devices I had and in any time I'll just reflash original boot.img and restore stock recovery.img (which took a lot of time to find online) so OTA can work and update when it arrives.
Hey! you could bring it to warranty, and maybe they will replace your unit with a new one, yes i did say that the software on the u11+ is not perfect :/, its been a long long time since the european u11+ got any update the .401 version im still on december 1 security patch thats way too slow for a high end phone, i just read that the u11 life is getting android 9.0 pie in certain part of europe :'( thats not fair.
Well as for my problem i got it solved by bringing my device to an htc shop they took 3 days to analyse and all, at the end they just gave me a new unit. well not as if the old one could be repared.
I did say that the U11+ is an awesome device, excepts for sme little flaws in the system everything is just perfect. i choose this one because the the bigger battery i less powerful cpu compared to the U12+. well i can't wait to have my hands on Htc's new flagship next year
