[Q] Dual sim with Lte support - General Questions and Answers

Hello everyone,
Anyone knows if there is any info about some phone that is going to be released in the near future with dual sim and LTE support?
Thanks.

Tell me about it.. I have been waiting for years!!
the problem with dual SIM and LTE is that the processing power required to decode the LTE signals is far grater than what we have today.
dont despair though! I just read that Mediatek is releasing a powerful 8core chip that can handle the processing load and that is Great news! I expect we will have something soon (Q3 2014)

Both the new Sony Xperia M2 and Xperia T2 Ultra support Dual Sim and LTE. :good:

ummmm.. definitely not!!
The phones you are talking about are single SIM.

The only dual SIM UE is the E1 DUAL and it's not LTE:

Trust me, there are no phones out in the market yet.
There's just no juice for LTE AND 3G dual SIM yet. I'm a telco engineer, it's my job!

I'm actually referring to their "dual" variant, the Xperia M2 Dual and Xperia T2 Ultra Dual. My mistake for missing that.
The reason I said they both support Dual SIM and LTE is based on the following announcements:-
http://blogs.sonymobile.com/press_release/xperia-m2-best-smartphone-tech-in-its-class/
http://developer.sonymobile.com/201...a-6smartphone-for-large-screen-entertainment/
Sony is not very clear with their announcements on whether the "dual" variant includes LTE or not but I did saw a few articles mentioning it:-
http://www.tomshardware.com/news/sony-xperia-m2-dual-sim-4g-lte,26101.html
http://www.mobileburn.com/22423/new...debuts-with-6-inch-display-lte-and-dual-sims-

Actually the Xperia T2 Ultra Dual is not LTE:
http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_xperia_t2_ultra_dual-5968.php
and the specsheet:
http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/products/phones/xperia-t2-ultra-dual/specifications/#tabs
...and neither is the M2 Dual. Here's the Spec sheet for M2:
http://www-support-downloads.sonymobile.com/d2302/whitepaper_EN_d2302_xperia_m2_dual.pdf
All the phone manufactures post these vague reports because the people who are creating the reports have no idea about the product specs. The LTE version is the single SIM model of these lines, the Dual Sim version only has WCDMA.
There are three main chip manufactures - Qualcom - Samsung - Mediatek. All smartphone companies carry either one of the three, or a variation of the Modem chip.
Currently, (read the first reply) there is no chip capable of handling LTE demodulation/MIMO. The processing requirements are too Damn High! (meme ref).
Mediatek though, is the first one who has announced that is building a chip that can handle the load. The Octa- Core MTK6592.

My next phone must be dual sim and lte and less then 6" screen. I thought to have it for my brthday in july. Is there any chance? Somebody knows for sure if that THL W11 Monkey King 2 will support lte or i should wait for MTK6595 definately? (it would be fine for me even if one sim is lte and 2nd one is 3g).
Thanks

Guys, this is an important question...How does big little actually work? Does it only uses only 4 cores at a time? I have read around and this seems to be the case, at least for current implementations.
Mtk6595 phones are coming out but if that's the case I'd rather stick with mtk6592 and have better multitasking. I don't care about 4g.
I'd like to know more about the mtk6595 :s
According to this link tough, the mtk6595 might use all eight cores simultaneously.

The principal question is if there are apps using 8 cores at the same time. You could have a powerful device with 8 cores working at the same time, yet if there aren't apps using this permormance...
M1S - Patatalk

As long as different apps use different cores, even just 2 cores per app, it is still a great deal.

I think i've found something http://www.aliexpress.com/item/4G-T...e-2G-RAM-8G-ROM-Android-4-4-5/1840816089.html . But i'm not sure if this information is real or fake because i can't find official page of the vendor
UPDATE: The brand/vendor name seems to be "Vivo"

And here's another one http://www.chinaecarts.com/samsung-...nch-mt6595-android-44-32gb-lte-4g-p-7591.html (see comments, there's a model with 2 sim and lte). Also some unknown/fake brand with no guarantee of future rom updates nor cyanogenmod...

This is a post for Dual SIM devices with LTE. Why the hdll are you posting CPU Q&A???????

Here's another one model http://hiton.en.alibaba.com/productgrouplist-221621342/Octa_Core_Smarphones.html which at least has official crappy website http://hightoncn.com/ .
+1, please post/search for dual sim lte devices and don't offtopic about cpu or any other features differnt to 2sim+lte in this topic
UPDATE: and there's seem to be LTE version of UMi X3 http://www.aliexpress.com/item/2014...-octa-core-smartphone-5-5inch/1764609798.html

Looks like Huawei Ascend P7 has dual sim version with lte http://liaow.com/huawei-ascend-p7-w-black.php
In some reviews they say that the second sim slot can also be used either for sd card or for sim card, so you can choose between additional sim or additional storage. But i don't know if it's true or there's just 2 different versions of that model: one with extra sim slot but without sd card and another is single sim but with sd card.

And the HTC One E8 Dual SIM http://www.htc.com/cn/smartphones/htc-one-e8/#/ use Google translate. Limited LTE bands however. Possible June release in China I think.

I'm afraid the same about the bands of all models that i posted above if not sold specially or officially for the countries with different bands than china's. And sure I'd like at least 3g for the second sim if i want to switch data connection to another sim. You could just interchange sims in that case but for example Huawei has one sim micro and another nano so it's impossible to do so

Yes a good bit of research is necessary!
I think I've only seen the ZOPO ZP980+ to have 3G + 3G - pretty rare to find.

I like the HTC E8... Are there any news about availability around the world? I'm from Portugal

It's only released in China so far, not sure it will be released wider, the M8 dual SIM has just been released an a few European markets. You could always import an E8, try merimobiles etotalk etc etc.

Dual sim, one sim always 2G

Hello all,
I'm a dual sim user for some time now.
Currently I'm looking for a replacement for my Allview P5Quad (rebrand of Gionee gn708w, same as Xolo Q800), which slowly but steadily gets to the end of it's usable life.
I'm currently looking at another dual-sim, the Gionee Marathon M5 (rebranded as Allview P8 Energy in Romania).
BUT I see that after all this time the operating of dual-sim devices like these is still the same. One Sim set as available for 3g(or 4g if available) and the other one locked on 2g only.
This was not a big concern until now, but in my country 4g rollout is quite fast, 3g gets better AND due to this lately 2g is becoming more and more ****ty and unusable even for voice only, due to being discretely phased out.
Is there a dual sim phone that would support a combination of sims like 4g+3g or at least 3g+3g, or even better (dreaming) 4g+4g?
Is this limitation hw or sw?
Afaik it is a hw design limit in the chipset. If so, anybody has any idea on why do manufacturers stick to this way when 2g is going out and 3g and 4g are so present in our lives?
Thanks.

Xperia XA Dual SIM with EU version?

Dear community,
I've got a question related to the Sony Xperia XA which is sold in germany.
The version has a single SIM Tray. Looking at the tecspecs, i can see, there also is a dual SIM version.
So my question ist: Does anyone knows, if this is a different smartphone, so that the hardware of the single SIM version is not able to handle double sim?
Or is it just the sim tray, which is single SIM in germany?
It's the model no F311, if it helps.
I'm asking this, because i can buy a dual SIM tray for less money. I'm not allowed to post the link, but you can find it on parts4repair dot com.
If it's also just a software thing, i can use another rom which can handle dual sim.
Would be happy to hear about your experience so far.
Greetings,
Cyberrob
You can find 5 models of the XA: F3111, F3113 and F3115 with single sim, F3112 and F3116 with dual sim. Others hardware specs are same for all, only radio bands are differents. If you want dual sim XA for Germany you have to buy the F3112, I'm from France and have it (from the Sony Store). To be sure verify the network bands used by your provider.
That's a really good answer, tank you so much.
So i do know now, it's impossible with my F3111.
Had no other option, because it's from a contract extension, or how it is called in english.

Intl. vs other markets, Dual Sim vs Single sim

Hi all,
There does not seem to be any resource that clearly shows the variations of the U Ultra at present.
I personally have a TW market model, with dual SIM. It appears that the bands on this model are not right for North America (and perhaps also South America) but are fine for my uses in APAC.
Given that there is limited info, perhaps we should gather some information.
Mine: 1.09.709.7 Taiwan model, Dual SIM
I am located in Australia, and Australia launches on March 8. It is unclear to me which model, though the product page on HTC's AU site suggest it would be single sim.
Can others who have gotten an U Ultra in other markets comment on their version? UK / India / NA?
Reason why I've put this in this subforum is so that we can explore the possibilities of opening up hidden bands with different radios (I believe my Taiwan Model supports: FDD: B1/B3/B5/B7/B8/B20/B28 TDD: B38/B39/B40/B41) and the AU model lists FDD: Bands B1/B2/B3/B4/B5/B7/B8/B12/B17/B20/B28TDD: Bands B38/B39/B40/B41 - which is in line with US?
Also, it may allow single sim to potentially support dual sim? as the dual sim has a combo slot with microsd, perhaps the hardware is there for single sim to support a second sim.
Lets explore what we can do with this phone!
Hi, seems like you posted on the wrong section. Maybe a moderator could move it to "HTC U ULTRA GUIDES, NEWS, & DISCUSSION" ?

Hey Wolf, you're probably right, a mod prob should move this. I originally intended this to form a basis where we can collect all the different firmware / radios etc, as I was under the impression that there were multiple hardware variations worldwide....
In one of the threads here on XDA, another member suggested he ordered the intl. model and it didnt support the right bands for the USA. Leading me to think there were multiple models.
I'm starting to think there isn't, here is why.
1. Michael Fisher (I think he's in Canada) imported a TW market phone for his early review. It appears to have LTE in the film, and he doesnt mention anything about incompatibilities.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIWbn8ecKwA
2. Jeff Springer (I think he's in the USA) imported a HK market phone, it also appears to have LTE - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fclOYUyfxnE&t=522s
I believe the belief that the intl. model doesnt support USA bands (2/4, etc) comes from the practice (poor practice, admittedly) for HTC's Taiwanese website to only declare the bands that it perceives are relevant to Taiwanese users. The HK website suggests the same as taiwan = FDD: B1/B3/B5/B7/B8/B20/B28 TDD: B38/B39/B40/B41
The UK / India / USA / AU sites all state - FDD: Bands B1/B2/B3/B4/B5/B7/B8/B12/B17/B20/B28TDD: Bands B38/B39/B40/B41
With USA & AU not stating support for dual sim, but HK, TW, India, UK do.
I believe there is only one model (with multiple software variations), and the information published being variable.

HTC U Ultra through Vodafone Australia does not support dual sim out of the box. The example I saw today was running 1.09.710.12
I purchased one off of an eBay from a Chinese vendor; I'm pretty sure it's the international version since it has the dual sim and int'l charger. I can confirm no problems here in NY and I'm on T-Mobile.

That's pretty good news.
Can you confirm the model number of yours (On box, printed on the back of the handset in feint print) - I'm assuming this is a "U-1u"
If you can also let us know the version number of your firmware - Settings, About, and then Software Info. If you got an Intl' charger it might be China or Hong Kong stock (Taiwan uses the same plugs as US).
So the Hong Kong (and Taiwan) version states: FDD:B1/B3/B5/B7/B8/B20/B28 TDD:B38/B39/B40/B41, and T-Mo in the USA uses B2 / B4 and B12. So its obvious that the support does exist, just simply not denoted appropriately on the website.
Great news.
Question - are those phones, that are/are not Dual SIM supporters, different in Hardware or just software manipulated limitations? I am asking this as my phones doe not recognize second SIM, but if I were to flash it with unlocked software for dual SIM, would it work? Thank you!

I'm not sure about that, but I tried 2 ROMs which supported dual SIM, and those weren't able to use the 2nd SIM/sd slot.. not sure about any customizations inside the rom/kernel/whatever though
OK I understand that, still, I am wondering if there are actual hardware limitations for the dual sim or just software, never mind the ROM...
I have buy my phone yesterday and it is a Single SIM phone for EU market (Made In Taiwan) and with productID number finishing with ...100. Dual SIM phones ID finishing with ...200.
I put my sim card to second (mSD/nSIM) slot and i when i turn on phone i have 2 sim cards drawed onphone (one empty and another (absent sim) with a full signal but crossed mark...
Hmmm, sims like have second SIM card software blocked ?
The same thing is happening on my Single SIM (EU) phone. If I insert the second SIM into the 2nd SIM slot, the phone recognizes it and displays a full signal bar with a crossed mark. Obviously, the hardware is capable of handling the second SIM (otherwise it would not be detected at all), but it's crippled in software. So far I did not find a way to unlock Dual SIM support.
Did anyone of you guys try flashing a rom with dual SIM support?
Hi i found main difference between Single Sim and Dual Sim HTC U Ultra :
NETWORK3
2G/2.5G GSM/GPRS/EDGE
Single SIM
850/900/1800/1900 MHz
Dual SIM
850/900/1800/1900 MHz
3G UMTS
Single SIM
AWS/850/900/1900/2100 MHz
HSDPA 42, HSUPA 5.76
Dual SIM
850/900/1900/2100 MHz
HSDPA 42, HSUPA 5.76
4G LTE™ (up to 600Mbps)
Single SIM
FDD: Bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 17, 20, 28
TDD: Bands 38, 39, 40, 41 with 2CA, 3CA
Support Cat 11 LTE: downloads up to 600Mbps, uploads up to 50Mbps
VoLTE and WiFi calling
Dual SIM
FDD: Bands 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 20, 28
TDD: Bands 38, 39, 40, 41 with 2CA, 3CA
Support Cat 11 LTE: downloads up to 600Mbps, uploads up to 50Mbps
VoLTE and WiFi calling
It appears that Single Sim is made to work with AWS. >>>>> AWS is used in the United States, Argentina, Canada, Colombia, Mexico, Chile, Paraguay, Peru, Ecuador and Uruguay.
and supports more bands then Dual sim one. I think flashing dual sim softwer version will change nothing since you still wont be able to use 2 sim cards.
I was mislead from some reviews, including gsmarena, that said HTC Ultra only had a dual sim version and I bought the phone. Unfortunately it doesn't support the 2nd sim. In my case it doesn't even have any icon crossed... I wonder why does it have the place holder for a second sim...
Anyone was successeful in accessing the 2nd sim on a single sim version? (model number ending in "100")
Actually I've also tried a bit to get dual SIM to work on my single SIM device, but flashing dual SIM activated ROMs wasn't enough and I've no idea what I could try now.
Maybe ask one of the ROM developer's?
Guys i dont think it is possible since as i posted above it is in some way different device. Same as you cant enable more bands support on dual sim version by software.

Which Custom Rom support dual VOLTE standby support?

I am using Oneplus 3, I have 2 Jio sim. but one sim have network coverage at a time. Same thing i do it in nokia 6.1 plus mobile. which mobile support dual volte. that is both sim have network coverage at a time. Whether the oneplus 3 support dual volte standby option or not? and whether this support can provide by software level?
If there is any rom having this dual volte standby support for oneplus 3 , Let me share that rom link.

Sorry to say but the Dual VoLTE is a feature that needs to be supported by the SoC. It's not something that you can get via just Software. The newer Snapdragon chips support Dual VoLTE but the 820/821 do not. Even the 835 do not support it, while the 845 & some other newer SoC's do.
So, in layman terms, OP3/33T do not support Dual VoLTE & never will.

Since we are already off-topic here, I am curious to know, why do you think OnePlus 3 will have that support too if 6.1 has that? 820 and 635 are two completely different SoCs so I don't understand how would you relate one to the other?
S*rew dual VoLTE, this phone called OnePlus 3 doesn't support even dual 4G. One sim connects to 4G, another one to 3/2G. So this is an impossible claim.

Actually our phone/SoC doesn't even support active-active, only active-passive mode as the modem doesn't have multiple lines/channels. That's why you can't surf when you get a phone call over 3G when phone is in 4G-mode, as it can't downgrade data-stream down to 3G while phone call is active.

Oneplus 3 have dual 4G stand-by and not dual-active mode. That means both slots can support 4G when you make it the primary data sim. Dual-Active phones can have two 4G networks active at the same time. Nokia 6.1 plus probably have dual-active support due to being newer chipset. And yes it cannnot be added via software update.

When 5g is enabled, phone is only single sim and sim1or2 doesn't really matter.
Yes poco said that when you use 5G phone will be single sim till they will give update that will make 1 sim 5G and other will be 4G
You just have to read the user guide.........
About Dual SIM:
• Supports Dual SIM cards with no carrier restrictions, single 5G or dual 4G
connectivity ①
• Supports Dual Nano-SIM card slots, either card can be set as the primary
card
• Supports single SIM 5G/4G+/4G/3G/2G
• Supports Dual SIM 4G+/4G/3G/2G
• Supports Dual SIM VoLTE HD calling ②
Note ①: 5G support depends on the local telecom operator’s network; if
the primary card 5G is enabled, the secondary card will not be available;
subsequent software upgrades will include support for primary 5G and
secondary 4G/3G/2G card mode function in dual-card situations.
Note ②: VoLTE service availability depends on the local telecom operator’s
network and service deployment
Not so complicate....
So according to the user manual dual sim support while 5g enabled is coming with a future update? the phone is five months old, did the promised update come through yet? are all other ROMs available for this device have the same issue?
The promised update is yet to come .

The phone was launched 5 months ago but probably due to the pandemic there is surprisingly little development and discussion from the community's side. Barely 4 roms.
I have been waiting 2 months now to upgrade because there is no way I ever use MIUI.
Last week LineageOS was released, but it's Android 10, and only initial build.
I will probably wait or lineageOS 18 before I buy this phone, but this means waiting few months the way things are going.

I would say there are more dual sim users than 5G users, maybe that's it.
