Benefit to a Droid Maxx on 4.2.2 instead of 4.4? - Droid Ultra Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a benefit to having one on 4.2.2? Is it just for the ability to have root? Been away from the dev scene lately so wasn't sure what the benefit of getting one with 4.2.2 on it.

Yes that's basically it, once your on 4.4 there's no way to root or downgrade if your not already rooted. So no wifi tether/hotspot, almost everything else there's an app for.

This bug is killing me! If you use chainfires USB host app you can see everything checks out fine it just refuses to actually show there's a connection between the phone and device (no USB connected notification) Apparently it's fixed in 4.4.2 whenever we see that update (Moto G had the same problem) exchange is messed up in 4.4 as well

Tethering?

I'm running hellybean and am wondering what I need to tether. I've never done it before. One reason I started on this path of rooting then to custom ROMs was to work around the tethering charge. I already pay for my data what does it matter which device uses it. Any help?

It's right there in settings; go to more and you will see tethering/portable hotspot. There are other apps and widgets in the store of course.

OK. Can I assume that since I am running a custom ROM that whatever software at&t uses on the phone to detect tethering is now gone?

They can't tell you're tethering unless they guess it from your usage.

I used foxfi last year after hurricane sandy and I had no power/cable/Wi-Fi for 12 days....worked great. That was before I was rooted.

Apply OTA update in ADB or fastboot?

Anyone done it on the any of the 2013 droids? How would I go about it? If I remember correctly our stock recovery doesn't have the adb option.

Can you or someone please post the kit kat download file and tell us how to install the upgrade through the stock recovery??
I haven't received it. Kind of annoying that so many have gotten it and nobody has posted it. Nobody has an obligation but someone always has in the past. Some googling has come up empty as well other than some statements about the DCMA.
