ROM with most knobs - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Which ROM for Nexus 5 has most settings and customization features?
I know this used to be AOKP, but their Kitkat release does not seem there yet (a lot less options than before).

Stock plus xposed framework
Sent from my Nexus 5

I don't think so. While GravityBox is great, it has less options than custom ROMs. And anything else added would mostly interfere with it.

Read the features list in the ROM threads and find out

This may or may not end up getting closed up as this is flirting with being a "Best ROM" thread. My recommendation would be to take some time reading the features listed in the OP's of the ROM threads and then flash a few to see which one suits you best.

I'm not trying to find "Best ROM", I realize no such thing exist. I was just wondering if somebody has already figured that one out.
Thanks for answers anyway.

As a senior member you should know these threads are not allowed. If you want to find a ROM that fits your needs, check the development section and read the OPs.
That said, inb4lock.

actually, the rom with the most features, everything thrown in, is usually one of the worst roms, not best. so the op should be safe with this thread. more crap thrown in = more bugs.

I've been using Dutty's for the past few months, but it seems like ROMeOS is the best these days...
Probably the same one as the answer to the last time this question was asked... Oh, about 20 minutes ago. Please use the search. That's why it's there.
Seriously though, Best rom? Good question. Many are geared towards different ways of using the device. Best advice is to READ descriptions and threads like the rest of us and do your own research.

Agreed - when I got my TyTN II I also had the same question.
Well the answer is simple - LOTS OF RESEARCH!!!
there is not the best one in general, but one that fits your needs.
So please read description of each ROM

Like the others said - and it of course depends on your preferences (i.e. type of apps, performance, appearance, etc.)
A good rule of thumb (ALL NOOBS TAKE THIS HINT!!) would be to look at the postings for recent ROMS and see how many responses there are to the thread. It could be a red herring if there have been a few bugs, but generally it indicates a popular ROM and from reading (yes read the initial posts please!) you can quickly determine if this might be a ROM for you. The responses from users will highlight any issues that may be specific to the software you'd like to run.
Maybe the mods can close this now - or maybe create a "Which ROM should you flash - read this first" Sticky that paraphrases this to prevent this weekly question.
if you are looking for a multimedia ROM (stable) i suggest Dutty's April 29 ROM
if you are looking for fast and fancy ROM i suggest ROMEOS 3.5
here ya go
But still like said above it has to be a ROM that fits ur needs.
cheers
Find the Best Rom! Ask 10 cooks get 10 best Roms
First Hard SPL your phone find a rom offering. Read what others say about it, then if it sounds like something you might like, Flash it. Then try another and another and keep going until you can answer that question for yourself. READ! for your self and learn. The bottom line is the best rom is a myth! it only can be the best if you say it is so. What I believe to be the Best you might Flash and think it sucks. Do some work on your own and learn! WiKi, WiKi, WiKi!
Hyperdragon ..
You can try Hyperdragon. I have been running it for quite some time now and have found it to be very stable and without almost no glitches..

ROM: Fastest Non-Buggiest ROM available?

I've spent countless hours going through the forums...
Out of all of the roms that I have tried I would claim eOS is the fastest non buggiest rom out there. It is very streamlined and fast, and I had 0 bugs when using it, if that is all that you are concerned with. It is lacking in some features by default, letting users personalize it as they wish.
Jason
How was responsiveness? Do you know if there are any benchmarks out there (I'm lazy, thought I'd ask for a direct link before looking it up...) for it?
Forgot to also ask; with any of the ROM's - which one's are most friendliest when it comes to adding new cabs? I guess my goal is utilize the processor and... add those things we all like to screw around with for a week or two and decide if its worth keeping. Usually in my case, if it causes my phone to freeze, it's off to the next choice...

I've spent countless hours going through the forums and figured I'd ask. Please note, I'm asking not for your opinion, or what you're favorite ROM is, regardless what drives it or what extras are on it... I'm asking everyone for some facts - as of today, 12.13.2008, who has the fastest, non-buggiest ROM around? ROM's are buried everywhere and some include benchmarks, others don't. I'm on AT&T and a,s of last night, went back to the OEM 6.1 ROM.

There is no way to have software and not have bugs. NOTHING is going to perform EXACTLY as you want it to right out of the box.
To see what everyone WOULD respond to your message with if they wanted to - look at their signature - why would they use it if they thought it was buggy or bad?
You are going to have to configure your phone no matter what. You will get (if the mods let this thread stay open) many opinions (just like the zillions of other threads that ask this question) from people who have not gotten tired of answering it.
The only way to find out what you like and what is non-buggy in your opinon you are actually going to have to download and try each of the ROM's.
Sorry - I wish it were simpler than that - but it isn't.
Two posts and you have already violated a rule this is not going to go well obiwan!
The rule:
If you post a redundant thread, SPAM, flame or violate any rules. Your thread will be closed or deleted without warning. Useless threads like those that address an issue such as "Which ROM is the best," "Kaiser vs iPhone," or "Kaiser Killer" will be closed. You could also be banned for violating the rules.
To find a list of the rules:

You state you have read a lot - I believe you - there is a lot to read. But - you are going to need to read even more to make yourself happy I am afraid.
Thanks for the input - that's why I was/am looking for stat's/results/screen shots of benchmarks, etc - just the facts.
The best way to find the answer to your question is to read the rom's threats, put the doubts about the rom's there and flashed then.
And you'll be a flash addicted like me.

Mods for Inspire

I just got CM7 mod on my phone and I'm loving it. However I'm curious to know an easy way to find other mods out there for the Inspire. I've seen mentions on this forum of others but it's hard to sort through what's what so I'm looking more for a definite listing of what's out there for other mods. Thx.

What do you mean "mod"? As in like a theme? or like APM and transparency mods? Since this is a development site, it is expected that you do some research on your own. There are plenty of CM threads out there that can point you in the right direction, don't be lazy, reading is fundamental!
I meant to say ROMs not mods. Is there a list of available ROMs for Inspire?

Again, I must stress to you that reading is fundamental, I get it that you're new to the site (my observation based upon your post count) and welcome! I hope this starts off what should be a mission to educate yourself. Again, this is a dev site where everyone assumes and expects you did the proper research before asking a question. The so called rom list you speak of, exists in the Dev section in one of the stickies. I don't think it's as up to date as it should be but that isn't a dig at the mods. The real list lies in the collection of threads in the dev section. Start reading.
edit: please don't ask here or in a new thread "what is the best rom" or "what's the difference between x and y" these questions will result in numerous members yelling the same thing at you..."ONLY YOU WILL KNOW WHAT IS BEST, TRY THEM OUT"

The one that works best for you. I would suggest reading the threads in the original development or Android development forums, and pick the one that looks best for you.
This thread should likely be moved to the general or Q&A section, or removed entirely...best rom threads seem to amount to a load of subjectivity.

Actually, they asked what was the "best customizable" rom, which means the rom with the most features capable of customizing to their needs. I don't see why everyone on here has to be so negative towards people that are just looking for help. The answer (given due research) would not be "subjective" because each rom has a certain number of features strictly dealing with customization. This would lead to a very definitive answer. What's the old saying??? If you can't say something nice (in this case helpful would be a more operative word), why say anything at all?
As for an answer to the OP: For kitkat and below, the most customizable one would be PAC rom. Check it out. It's a combination of the features of Paranoid Android, AOKP and Cyanogenmod. I think you may enjoy it for personalization and outstanding battery life due to their tweaked kernel and performance settings.
Micmars didn't want to be offence. He just try to this forum stays as clear as possible. Question has to be moved to Question section.

I agree with "best" but the most customizable custom rom does exist regardless the stability and so on...

i9505 5.1 ROMs comparison

So, it seems that there are several i9505 5.1 ROMs and it is not an easy job to try each one to decide which one to go with. We may agree that there is no "best one", but I think we can make a good reference containing reviews that compares two or more ROMs in terms of some measures - smoothness/lag, stability, force closes, random reboots, battery life, functionality, customizability... etc.
If you agree with me that this will be useful, please help building this reference by posting in this thread
Please keep this thread clean and focused on its purpose as much as possible.
Cheers.
For stability - [JDCTeam][5.1.1] Optimized CyanogenMod 12.1 builds
For smoothness without lag - Resorruction Remix rom

General.
Comparison threads usually don't seem to work too well because everyone has different needs which results in different experiences. Also no two devices are the same which means kernels perform differently, etc.

I see you are a new member. There is a reason there are no comparison threads. There is no point in doing that.
1. Every 5.1 rom is based on Cyanogenmod. So each one contains the same major bugs.
2. User have never tried all of them. They will say this rom is the best because it's the only one they tried.
Some roms have more/different features then other roms. But you cannot compare them the way you want to because every rom is based on the standard Cyanogemod. There is to my knowledge only one rom that uses his own kernel. The rest uses standard CM kernel.

I tried two ROMs and the difference is HUGE. I read the threads of each but they were not of much usefulness. However, there were some opinions that compared different ROMs and I found them very useful. That's why I think these types of reviews should be gathered in one thread.

ROMs threads are full of opinions and questions of different topics and side talks, useful reviews are scattered along hundreds of pages. Putting these reviews in one place is not a bad idea, I think.
ROM opinion threads. Hate them. They are the plague!
XDA used to have a policy where threads whose only purpose was to determine "which ROM is best" were forbidden. They should restore that policy, because all the information necessary to make an informed decision can be found within the ROM threads themselves. On top of that, the only way to really know which ROM is best is to try them. For example, I've tried AICP, Team UB, and JDCTeam Optimized CM12.1. All of them are based on CM12.1, and all of them work fairly well. I didn't like AICP however because of an aesthetics issue, stopped using TeamUB because the latest versions of APKTool couldn't decompile its framework*, and went to Optimized CM12.1 in response.
As Lennyz1988 notes, all that people are going to tell you is about the one ROM they use, and not elaborate on the pros and cons of the various ROMs. Therefore, ROM opinion threads in general are a sign of laziness. Rather than taking the time and doing the research yourself, you'd rather have other people do it for you.
------------------------------------------------------------------
*No issues in decompiling the latest Optimized CM12.1 framework, meaning TeamUB deliberately made it so the framework could not be modified.
