[Q] Can you partition EXT4 on internal card for moving apps to SD? - HTC One S

So my brother has had an HTC One S for a while now, and we're going to root it. However, I'm not finding information as to what options he has to move apps to his internal SD. Can you partition the internal to say, EXT4 or something of that nature to use one of the many app2sd apps?
Any info would be great!
Thanks

not the whole app to sd card

Hello guys
i just want to know if there is able to transfer some apps to sdcard and some apps stay in the internal memory. i know how to move apps to sdcard and move them back to internal memory, but not all apps to sd card. so any one knows how?
thanks
I don't know the exact command off the top of my head, but couldn't this be done with unionfs? Since it is included in the fs image, it might not be too bad.
Or you could make symlinks (ls) for individual apps maybe? It would still require an ext2 partition and would be a lot messier...

Question

When i do a nandroid backup it says no sd-ext to backup.
Did i do something wrong when i rooted it?

No you didn't do anything wrong. There is no sd-ext to backup simply because you have no sd-ext, and that's okay. Lol
Ext is a filesystem type, and sd-ext would be an ext partition on your sd card. I think it is mostly useful on phones with very low internal memory, such as the Nexus One with less than 200MB available for installing apps. I never used it with my N1 but if i understand it correctly, the sd-ext frees up internal memory by allowing you to mount system partitions to your memory card.
I don't think we really would need one with this phone because we have much more internal memory available from the start.

Yup...sd-ext is just a partition created for Apps2SD basically. You only have one if you partition your SD card for Apps2SD and enable the moving of all apps to the SD card...it's kind of like a second (and unnecessary) data partition. All in all, you did nothing wrong and your phone will still make good backups
sweet, thanks guys

[Q] formatting my 32gb sd card for best performance - any guides or faqs?

I'm interested in finding out everything I can about the various ways to format my SD card for best performance. For instance, can I have two partitions and will my Inspire read both of them? What is this EXT3 and EXT4 etc. that I'm seeing some references to? Is there a walkthrough I can reference for the best way of creating a partition on my SD card and using App2SD to free up some space in memory?
Thanks for any pointers.
formatting your sdcard to ext4 is for roms that use ext4 for more storage, it tricks the os into thinking there is more internal memory, for apps, but the rom needs to be built with it, it should say in the OP, some roms format the internal memory to ext4, its faster and has other performance enhancements, for more info go here

As long as your SD is class 4 or better then I would leave it as is. As for apps2sd. Just make sure not to move any that use widgets as those cant be run from sd cards.

[Q] 4ext vs 2nd partition on SD card

Hello,
I have secondary partition on my SD card with ext4 filesystem on it.
With help of Link2SD i can use this partition for installed apps.
So the question is, when i create a backup with 4EXT (currently installed) or CWM does it include links and actual files from the SD card?
Got also a ext and ext1 seems to be a strange mounting problem..
It works but s2e cannot find the ext patition..

Hi,
4EXT nandroid backup takes a complete snapshot of your phone system, settings, data, and apps.
It does NOT make a backup of your sd card.
So, I would think that if you restored the backup, and you had not moved the apps in your ext4 partition, then they would match up again.
Why are you using an ext4 partition, anyway?
Isn't 1 GB of space on the phone enough for you?
software logic
well,
in linux filesystem, and in windows nowdays too, any storage can be mounted anywere, so if backup software differentiate external storage vs internal storage, it probably should follow symlinks and backup application from extended filesystem as well.
it could be a feature request

[Q] SD CARD Partion

Good morning all !!!!
I have done an ample amount of reading and I am still confused by the topic a little bit. And the post I came across were rather old. I just bought a 32G micro SD card for my galaxy s 4g running (wicked rom 9.1). This rom finally has the ability to move apps to SD. My question is, is it really necessary to partition your SD card for any reason??? What are the benefits? I still do not get he concept. I can only find the ways to do it. but not the reason.
*BUMP*
so.... I still did a bunch of reading, and did a SD card wipe attempted the 2nd partition and using link2sd and seems that the 2nd partition is not being recognized? can someone point me in the right direction?
Partitioning the SD card!
Actually, partitioning gives you the benefit of using space in your SD Card to install apps or use app data, instead of cramming it all up in the phones' internal memory. In other words, the Second Partition acts as the internal memory of the phone. So creating a 1 GB partition for a device with low internal memory allows the user to install more apps and doesn't let the internal memory decrease.
Link2SD can only accept partition with the proper scripts, i.e if the SD card has been partitioned with Ext2 then Link2SD must also be given the command for creating scripts as Ext2.
It is usually recommended to partition SD as Ext2 or Ext3 and create scripts on Link2SD as the same.
Hope it helped :good:
