All,
I am trying to configure Tasker to send an autoSMS to incoming callers when I place the phone face down. This is what I have so far:
New profile (Named Silence Mode)-> Phone State > Call Incoming + Orientation Face Down
New Task (Named Silence Ringer) -> 1. Ringer Volume set to Level 0 (silent) -> 2. Send SMS ->Number Field set to %SMSRB (checked box for Store in Messaging App) -> Message: I am currently busy at the moment. I will get back to you asap.
Are these the right settings? I am unsure of the Number field (%SMSRB).

Use this thread for Tasker questions. Read the opening as well. Lots of good information.

Dear all,
I'm new to Android phones, but i am q sure i set up the Tasker profile correctly...
So what i wish to achieve is:
For certain hours of the day,
Set volume ringer to 1
BUT for callers listed in my phone book,
Turn volume ringer to 6
i have read and tried tasker.wikidot.com/sleepmode and it does work nice, but i don't want my phone to be on Silent Mode because i am afraid there might be a chance that there's a legit call from someone not in my phonebook...
So when i replace the "Silent Mode" ON/OFF to "Ringer Volume" 1/6 (1 as the default sleep mode, 6 as the caller exception obviously) it does not work at all;
When there is a phonebook-listed caller calling in (i set caller number to C:ANY), i can hear for a second or two that the modified profile does increase the ringtone to level 6, but it will drop back down again to level 1 after that 1-2 second of ringing loud...
I do not have any other profile that fiddles with ring volume, just gestures for activating camera and cell tower location to turn wifi off...
I even tried running just a simple test:
1) set phone's ringing volume 1 by pressing the decrease volume side button on the phone body
2) turn off ALL Tasker profiles
3) create and activate the following tasker profile:
Event: Phone Ringing: (phone number left as blank)
Task: Ring Volume: 6
4) call in using another phone
5) it still gives the same result (1-2 seconds of loud ringtone, then back to the soft ring volume, and when i check afterwards, the phone's ringtone volume is 1, not 6)
I'm running Samsung Galaxy S II with stock Gingerbread (rooted of course)... and this is my first android... so i have no experience with trying this profile on other phones, or other versions of Android...
Can anyone help?
Thank you so much,
denny
I'm trying to configure "Profiles" after recently installing "CM 10.0 stable" on my phone. Did a full wipe, factory reset, even formatted my SDcard just to clean it up.
My problem is I can't seem to stop the phone from vibrating. In my night profile for example I don't want the phone to ring or vibrate. In application groups I have everything set to "off" Vibrator overrides are set to "disable" in both "calls" and "notifications" and the boxes are checked. Volume overrides all set to "0" except "alarm" which is set to 7/7 and box checked.
I select "night" profile and call my phone to test and the phone still vibrates???? how do I stop this?????
Also each application group contains the same options, Notification Mode, Notification Tone, Ring Mode, Phone Ringtone, Vibrate Mode, Lights mode. Why does email for example contain Ring Mode and Phone Ringtone??? My email sends me a notification tone but not a ringtone? why are both included? Don't I adjust the Ring Mode and Phone Ringtone in the "Phone" application group only?
The profile set up is extremely confusing and I've searched all over the place with little help. Is there a tutorial for setting these up that explains how each setting effects your phone?
Change ROMs.
Try slimbean or any other ROMs that are in development section.
Slim has everything CM10 has so try something new.
Good luck

[Q] Android > create Telephone app that keeps focus on outgoing & incoming phoneCall
Using this simple example to create a PhoneCall application that dials out a hard coded # and monitors phone state.
http://www.mkyong.com/android/how-to-make-a-phone-call-in-android/
Unfortunately, on making the phone call, we always switch to the actual built -in phone application.
I want to avoid this, or at the very least hide the dialer pad button. The user SHOULD NOT have the option to enter a phone#.
Does anyone know of a way to achieve this? i.e. keep the actual built-in phone application in the background (I would need to add buttons for speaker, and end call in the primary application)
OR
alternatively, hide just the dial pad button in the native, built-in phone application?
Hey! I am at a loss.
I am trying to mute my notifications and calls. But, I want them to come in (so I can read them, when I turn on the screen).
Bottom line: I want to read incoming messages in a room, where notifications (sound or vibrate) would be a disturbance, and I wanna see who calls, in case it's important.
Additionally, I don't want to shut off alarms (set with the stock clock app).
Currently I archieve the goal by pressing 'volume down' --> select 'NONE'.
Sadly, that setting doesn't allow alarms.
When I use 'volume down' --> 'IMPORTANT', as soon as I turn on the screen, the phone beeps when a message arrives (in settings, all important disturbances are switched off).
So as I see it, 'IMPORTANT' only shuts off the alarm sound as long as the phone's screen is off.
Please help. It's pretty much a simple search for the equivilant setting in Android 5 for the 4.4-silent-mode. :fingers-crossed:
[EDIT: Sorry for some incorrect translations. 'IMPORTANT' is actually called 'PRIORITY'. There might be others ]
Step 1: Make sure you have no starred contacts. If you don't know what this means, you should be fine you can ignore this.
Step 2: Go to Settings -> Sound & Notifications -> Interruptions -> Change Calls/ messages from to "Starred contacts only".
Step 3: Press the volume up/down button once. Then do this:
Do you think 3rd party applications will be able to use this functionality? I.e WhatsApp etc?

I really hope custom Roms will include this again!
Maybe this will help you

Thank you very much. That does in deed work (couldn't make it work for TEXTRA, but for Google Messenger as standard texting app that solution actually helps).
[With TEXTRA right now I have to toggle to vibrate, and then as well set notifications to 'PRIORITY'.]
This is related to Google Messages, the application to send and receive SMSs and RCS
I don't know if this is problem with the POCO or with Android 10 becuse of the changes in the Do Not Disturb mode.
I use my phone for work, and I'm on call 24x7 for a week at a time.
I get the alarms thru SMS from a sender that is a name, not a number that I can add to my contacts. On Android 9, using Messages 6.4.044 Acacia, (but it was working as I'll describe with the initial version that came with my previous phone 3 years ago on Android 8).
This is what I was doing on my Mi A1 carring 2 SIMs one personal and the company one (I'm translatiung from Spanish, so the actual wording in English might be different):
Open Messages, go to the 3 dots an the upper right corner.
> select Settings
>> Received messages
>>> Advanced
>>>> Sound ...and here select a distinctive sound for all SMS different than the default notification sound.
Then open the conversation with a previous sms sent by my company (I cannot respond as is not a phone number, but I'll call it conversation)
Go to the 3 dots an the upper right corner within the conversation.
> Select Details
>> Notifications
>>> Advanced
>>>> ENABLE Bypass Do Not Disturb so it will sound even when dnd is enabled
>>>>Sound Select a Special tune for the Conversation so it sounds different from other SMS.
During the day I know when I get an SMS or if is a Urgent one from work because of the sound and during the night I could enabe DND and only get alerted by urgent work messages.
On Androd 10. The new phone is a POCO X3 NFC (Again the phone is set to Spanish, so is a rough translations of the menu labels):
Open Messages, go to the 3 dots an the upper right corner.
> select Settings
>>General (since I carry 2 SIMS one personal and the company one there 3 menus. General, one for SIM1 and another for SIM2)
>>> Notifications
>>>> Received messages
>>>>> Sound ...and here select a distinctive sound for all SMS different that the default notification sound.
Then open the "conversation" containing previous SMSs sent by the company I work for
Go to the 3 dots an the upper right corner within the conversation.
> Select Details
>> Notifications
>>> Sound Select a Special tune for the Conversation so it sounds different from other SMS.
There is no advanved menu, no switch to ENABLE Bypass Do Not Disturb so it will sound even when dnd is enabled. Only priority (highest prirotity doesn't bypass DND and also an entry to select what to do on the lock screen with the msgs and its content)
Result: During the day I cannot tell an on-call SMS from the rest as THE LAST SOUND selected for a particular conversation is APPLIED to ALL incoming SMS.
During the night I CANNOT set DND so all notifications from all applications sound, because if I enable DND the On-Call SMS cannot bypass DND and I don't ge awaken in case of problems at work.
I reported this thru the application twice; once in Spanish and once in English, but did not get an answer and I cannot see the report in my sent email box, so I'm not sure it was received.
Edit: I became Beta tester for messages, now I use version 7.1.080 Hickory but the problem persists.
I'm using IFTTT to parcially solve the issue, but is not the solution.
