Hi all,
I have just got my Viewsonic VPAD 10 and was a bit sad when I saw that market wasn't on.
So anyone fixed market on a VPAD 10? Can it be done in the same way as in the G-Tablets?
/M
Is that the one that dual boots windows and android 1.6?
According to the Viewsonic products page it is... 1.66GHz Atom, dual boots Windows 7 & Android 1.6...
be interesting to hear batt runtime and quadrant score...
As to market, I suppose that you could use adb push to get the market app on there and then try the market "fix" in the dev forum... worth a shot anyways...
(It's the one that Sears initially mis-labelled the gTab as...)
As we tried it for a couple of days now it seems like it runs for aprox 5-6 hours on WiFi
Haven't tried with the 3g yet but it will come
Is it the "Full market (improved market fix) on G Tablet", "The Viewsonic G Tablet Super Thread (w/Market, Gmail, and Maps!)" or which thread do you mean
/M
I'd try starting out with low expectations, and go with "The Viewsonic G Tablet Super Thread (w/Market, Gmail, and Maps!)"...
what it essentially entails is getting market installed, running it(setup), try to download(IIRC), the back to home...
at that point you can try the Titanium Backup method(never worked properly for me as I had to do what follows) or
1. go into setting and find the section that lists running apps
2. find market, clear data/cache, force close(quit) it
3. find Google Services Framework, clear data/cache, force close it
4. run market
5. get error -> reboot
6. no error, back through 1-5 again
When it reboots IF it works, you should see more apps in market, but you're not going to see all of them as the VPAD 10 is running a fairly old version of Android as it's the last one to support x86 completely...
Now IF ALL of that works and gets you market, you COULD try to do the extended market "fix" to see if it lets you see any additional apps...
(I picked up the above steps by researching the thread from which the "fix" originated for a different device and version of Android(2.0 IIRC), and figured where it fit into the TapnTapped version of 2.2 on the gTab... )
Also you need to be aware that the VAST majority of Android devices are ARM based, and if an app uses "native" code, it's just not going to work on that VPAD since it's x86... it's the downside of that particular tablet for Android, but OTOH you can just run Windows and likely have an easier time getting a linux distro on it eventually...
[EDIT]
Caveat: this method may not even work for 1.6, and some of the apps/services listed may have different names in listings under 1.6, so you MAY end up having to look on another forum for how other 1.6 devices gained market access... e.g. MANY of the Via WM8505 based tablets ran 1.6, e.g. aPad (IIRC) thei rmethod fo rmarket access may work if the above doesn't or has enough differencces...
[/EDIT]
Has anyone figured out how to do it yet? I spend most of my time in windows 7 now cause the android build feels so crippled.

Have you tried the new online market? Also, there is info in these threads about a version of 2.2 for the Viewpad:

Thank you very much my good sir, I now have a direction to follow. I hope this also leads to a working market place.

Please let us know how Froyo runs on the ViewPad 10.
Good Day Everyone,
I have been searching the forums for a few days and installed a number of apk's all of which don't seem to work.
There seems to be so many posts on Chinese tablets and getting Android Market to work. And a number of work arounds that I have tried have so far been unsuccessful. Many of us have bought the WM8650 models (VIA8650,High-performance 800MHZ CPU+300MHZ).
So my question is can't we collaborate as a group who own these tablets to donate an amount (say $10 or $20 each) to the developer that ports an Android version which runs all the Google apps and Market?
That way we won't have to look for workarounds, and those who purchase after us will have a much easier upgrade path.

I have the wm8650 and can't access to the android market, even though there is an icon for it. I get an error that says, "Authentication error. Please check your account/password". Have you figured out the problem yet?

Hi guytimes.
The Android Market apk that I loaded won't open, however it seems the pre-loaded Market app on the device only shows applications from China(did not return any results when I searched for Angry Birds). The icons look similar but I'm not sure if the pre-loaded app goes to the Official Android Market place.(If someone knows, please could you correct me?).
In the interim, to at least to get some apps loaded, I managed to get the application from Slideme ( an Android application website) which works well. It does not have all the apps on the official Market but it will let you download and install. I am still trying to find a way to get the Google apps and Market place working or to Port a different ROM to this type of device.

Wow, that stinks. I had no idea the marketplace was blocked on these devices. Please let me know if you find a real work around and I'll do the same.
Hi everyone,
I too opt-in for a possible collaboration.
I'm still waiting my baby to arrive.
Thanks
Thank you boshkop,
Let's hope we can get enough people to agree. And then a technical person to port Android for us.
By the way I found another nice app market at Androidpit
What do you mean by "porting the Android"?! The device already runs Android 2.2!! Am I missing something here?

As far as I understood, he meant that Android market doesn't work and no apps can be installed even via .APK files, am I correct?
I just found a possible solution for the AndroidMarket (using the application Applanet).
Check here (the last post):
androidpit.com/en/android/forum/thread/420722/Table-7-wm8650-VIA-926-REVIEW
I have this tablet and I can tell you, it run 90% of the apk aplications
No need to have an android market. You can install the applanet market and get all free without registration and any complicated steps.
Now the only thing I'm searching is to know how to root the tablet.
I can access all the system files directly and edit any archive but need some special permisions.
Hopefully soon we can find soemthing for this awesome tablet.
rom
Hi everyone, I will have a ROM posted for the Eken m009s with the via 8650 cpu within the next few days, so far I removed the chinese apk's, a different lockscreen (froyo default), and launcher pro as the default home screen, also, Slide Me marketplace works perfectly on this, and Applanet does as well, the market I tried also fails to open.

There are lots of ROMs some of them still under development here:

Unfortunately there are at least 3-4 models with same tech specs.
The only difference is their LED color or if they vibrate on startup or not...
So far, the only way with the custom ROMs for these tablets is trial-and-error.
I tried on last night and it is stuck on a loading screen tried the install again and nothing... mine has green led and does vibrate on startup

Just keep trying with different ROMs made for the Green LED tablets.
Thats the problem the only roms I found that will actually load on my tablet dont work the other green led roms wont even load???
Today the 21th in the Amazon Appstore the free-for-a-day game is Peggle! However, even just trying to see the info, or maybe read the reviews, or look at the screenshots rudely pops up the message Not Compatible... And downloading it from the appstore is of course out of the question.
First, change the title to say Peggle, not Pegger...
Secondly, I just got done playing a few levels on my Tab... With a little know how posts like this wouldn't be relevant... (Like the Plants vs. Zombies post... "OMG!! IT'S OUT BUT IT DOESN'T WORK FOR TAB!!" ... Or netflix... same deal)
The trick would obviously be to make the market think you are on a different device... Changing your build.prop is quite simple (assuming root is in place), and this is what you need to change in order for the market to not think your device is what it really is... Mine was "My Wall" for a while to download Peggle.
Than, just to be safe, fire up Chainfire 3D and load up the Tegra 2/Nvidia driver, runs smooth as butter...
It's not wise to change your build.prop to much because a lot of programs revolve around it (such as swype's configuration/save files)
ALWAYS back up ANYTHING you change in your root folder... copy the build.prop over to your sd card in a backup folder before changing it.
p.s. I'm not responsible nor liable for anything you do to your device because of what you read here... I'm just a conduit of information. I also will likely not help you with any "OMG MY TAB IS BRICKED" posts because of this... If you are brave enough to change anything in your root folder, than you should do your RESEARCH!
I've changed the title, what was I thinking? Anyway, I admit was hoping somebody knowledgeable would know a way to circumvent that message, and tell us.
I have found system/build.prop, but what property did you change in that file to change the model? I noticed a number of GT-P1000's Do all of them need to be changed? You changed it to "My Wall"? Does it need to be that, or is it anything but SGT?
Thanks!
I downloaded it onto my sgs2, and then just sent it via bluetooth to my tab. Works perfectly.(I do have amazon appstore installed on both my devices.)
You are on the right path, I changed the first 3 references (maybe 4) toward the beginning of the file. Please be sure you back the file up unchanged on your sd card. When you've downloaded the game I recommend going back to that original file.
You can change it to whatever you want.

Using the Amazon app store, I added the game on my Vibrant.
Then went to the tablet's Amazon app store and clicked on the install button.
It didnt complain about anything and installed fine.

Yup, there are various ways to trick it into working... I don't have a second device that supports it, so I just did it "the hard way" I suppose.
The initial check is right as you click download... so bypassing it on one device than downloading on another is logical... Kind of like the PSN store and multiple PS3's.
Paraphrasing my comments over at Amazon to add this forum's conversation...
I've got a Galaxy Tab (SCH-I800) and I was being told I can't use this with my Tab. What the hell?? How do you write a game that can't run on a Galaxy Tab?
Anyway, I "purchased" it on the web site using my laptop computer and the Amazon website, went back to the Tab and installed it from my available-to-download apps and it installed fine and it ran just fine.
I've played Peggle on my Xbox 360 and on my Nintendo DSi before as well, but this Android version feels a little sloppy (the opening dialog asking for username is blank, the music doesn't loop properly--it plays out and fades, then restarts--as if it's repeatedly playing an audio track that fades at the end). Otherwise, gameplay works great, zoom-in works great, etc. I don't understand why it's been blocked from installing on a bunch of systems that clearly are able to run it just fine. (another fellow with an Asus eee Transformer in another review had the exact same problem and suggested that way around the block that I described earlier.) Am I overlooking some detail as to why we're being denied this from these devices?
btyork, I'll keep that build.prop in mind, I have a feeling that may come in handy. It wasn't needed this time though, because the other-phone-trick worked beautifully. It worked just like ipnekgs described. I just installed the appstore on the wife's SGS, logged in with my account, and downloaded Peggle on it without a hitch. After that I switched back to my Tab, and Lo!, it was ready for installation on the SGT. Lovely!
I AM intrigued by stoney73's remark... Can you install an app on one phone and then send it by bluetooth to another one? Or just download the app instead of installing it? How does that work, does an installation from the appstore leave a file behind somewhere? I'd love to know where!
Thanks guys!
BTW, I'm not claiming it doesn't run on our beloved Tab, Amazon refuses to install it, claiming it's Not Compatible. In cases like this I always like to try it out myself, to see if the claim is true, as often it isn't. Chuzzle for instance definitely has graphical problems, but perseverance paid off with Peggle, as it runs beautifully, no problems at all so far (though I've played just a couple of levels). I wonder what possesed Amazon to refuse us even to download it. I've haven't seen that one before, and I've downloaded quite a few apps.
'Buying' it from the website and then installing it from 'my apps' on the tab worked here.
It may not be fully compatible with a stock galaxy tab.. I have had zero problem with it running on my tab using overcome hermes and chainfire 3D using the nvidia driver...

Same for me, played quite a few levels with no issues. I have the Alpha HC ROM installed on my SGT
Maybe it's an error. My Tab is rooted, but apart from that it's stock: not flashed, no Chainfire3D, just stock JMK, but Peggle seems to work flawlessly.
It works perfectly fine on the Tab. I have played a couple hours of it with no problem.
I did have to "buy" it from my Nexus One, but then I was able to install it on my Tab right from the Amazon app. The download took forever.

The same has happened with a few android market apps, which then require the workaround, and end up working perfectly.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA Premium App
ended up finding a download link somewhere, can't remember where now.
completed adventure mode and never had a single problem.
like PvZ though, it's a big install (not so much on the SGT though)
Hello,
I just bought this, it's not a major brand and so I knew I wasn't going to have everything as easy as my samsung phone and here's my first problem.
I have two apps I want to install that won't which are Wase and Escort Live, both traffic apps. Both when I go to the android app. store give me a "This item is not compatible with your device." message.
The OS is the same version as my Samsung Note 2 phone (4.4.2) which has both those apps. and I question if there really is a compatibility issue that would matter.
So, is there way to find out exactly what the app is looking for that it can't find that's making it incompatible?
Is there a way of installing an app. even if playstore thinks there's a problem? Maybe there's an app that will make a device look like to playstore it's got what the app. wants?
I bought this device to experiment with, not so much as a work tool, so I have no problem rooting it or whatever if needed although it's rare enough there might not be a known way to root it.
Any help appreciated.
I'm excited about getting the Nvidia Shield and trying to put the Android OS on it. It looks so good together when you look at the videos on YouTube. What I would like to know is are the Google Play apps stable? With my current set-up I have to clear data or reinstall apps all the time. I have an M8 Android box. Are any of you having those kind of issues with the Shield? Also, just in case I lose heart because I'm terrified of bricking it, where do I find a place a to buy or send my Nvidia Shield to to install the Android OS? Does a legitimate place or person exist that does this? Ofcourse I would have to verify. Thanks.
Comes with Android OS already installed. Play store should be on there as well. Not anything you'd really have to do.

That is not a full Android OS the Nvidia Shield comes with, trust me. I just flashed the Full Android Nougat firmware from DroidMote and it's like night and day. The Android OS that comes with the Shield is very difficult to customize. You're limited to what Nvidia allows you to have. With the Full Android OS you are in total control of your console. You can put live wallpaper, customize the homescreen to whatever look you want, and lots more.
