Hi I have a moto g, I tried to update kit kat update but it says it requires wifi only. I tried to disable wifi, even tried to disable wifi updates in google play>settings and setting it to download auto, but nothing works.
Is there any Pc software for my moto g or another way round? I was hoping I could force the phone to use my data allowance since got plenty data available just not wifi.
I do not have wifi at the moment only wired connection.
Any help is appreciated thank you

Here (proceed with caution- there are some reports of sim blocked popups after updating with this method): http://androidromupdate.com/2014/01/12/install-moto-g-4-4-2-kitkat-ota-update-firmware-europe/
Anyway, if you have a pc with wifi capabilities + win 7 / Ubuntu (never tried in osx), you can use it as ad-hoc wifi transmitter

Or he could use Reverse tether
It works after a couple of minutes of waiting.
You just need the right config.
I think it dupes as wifi automatically.
Ad-hoc depends on the wireless chipset inside.
He could use Connectifiy
thanks both for the work arounds I like the idea of that reverse tether app sounds like the easiest and why not have full internet via usb cable
Tried the reverse tethering but it was bit more complicated, it suggested a usb/network moto g driver should be installed bit strange since I already installed the moto g software/drivers.
So gave up when no network device appeared...
Feels strange to have a moto g but no real pc software, but guess everything is via google play account and synced anyhow.
Anyhow installed connectify and used a cheap usb wireless dongle and wifi sorted, the phone was already downloading kit kat before I had to tell it too so just goes to show you android loves wifi and data plans are an extra bit on the side.

I just go it working yesterday with TnT Lite 1.03, but it will not work with TnT 2.0. Mega, mega bummer.
It worked fine all day after installing the wifi tether app and tested several times after reboots of the Incredible and the Gtablet.
Same as before I got it working. Does not see the Incredible.
UPDATE:
Installed another version from the wifitether site (Incredible 2.1 version). It connects, but not consistently.
Not sure what the issue is. I do notice that when it does connect a "Wireless Tether - AC disabled" pops up in notifications. If that does not pop up in notifications, no connection.
TnT 2.0 works with my wifi tether on EVO.
Wifi Tether v. 2.0.5-pre11.
I think it has to do with the fact that Android in general has an issue with tethering to devices that broadcast in ad-hoc mode instead of infrastructure mode.
For example, using Wifi Tether for Root Users app from market, my Galaxy S cannot be seen by the G Tablet. Neither can my Hero. Because this app (according to its documentation @ google code) uses ad-hoc mode only. (see here: http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/issues/detail?id=11)
But when I use the Samsung built-in "Mobile AP" checkbox (it's in settings on the Galaxy S), it works perfectly; the G Tablet sees the phone and all is well. Because it uses infrastructure mode.

i'm gonna upgrade to 2.0 tonight. i'll let you know if mine still works.
Check your device specific version of Wifi Tether. Evo has an infrastructure mode.

I haven't done anything special. The settings are pretty as is when I installed it.
Have you checked to see if you can connect another device to the Evo first?
Here are my settings:
wifi encryption enabled
changed the passphrase
changed the ssid
Channel is 11
Access Control is enabled
lan = 192.168.1.0/24
let me know if you need any other info.

hi
i have the same setting on wifi tether app on my EVO i am able to connect and browse internet but in about 5 - 10 minutes the connections drops. By drops i mean it still shows connected but i am then not able to open any webpage at all. it keeps telling me web page not available.
Do you have the same issue?
This is all about the infrastucture mode. I would recommend trying to find the mobileAP app/mod for your phones. All of the galaxy s phones, even the stock 2.1 roms can be modded to have this mobileAP added, etc... Pretty much any phone that has at least 2.1 I'd look in the relivent xda forum for a mobile ap mod...

No, I stay connected. It drops sometimes but very rare and far in between.
Trouble Connecting G Tab with Original Motorola Droid
I have tried everything I have read to tether my G Tablet to my original Motorola Droid. So far I have been unsuccessful. I am still running the original firmware with Tap N Tap, but I am also running Launcher Pro. I have rooted both the G Tablet and my Droid. I have tried Barnacle Wifi Tether and Wireless Tether. I also installed Update 2967 that was pushed to my tablet on 22-Nov. Could that have messed me up? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

have you tried the two independently of one another? meaning, have you made sure the gtab is able to connect to a regular old wifi ap? have you checked other devices tethered to your droid?
I don't think the update would have / should have messed up your gtab's ability to connect to a wifi point.

My iPod touch works well with Barnacle on my Droid. Also, my G Tablet works well with both my Netgear Wirless G and D-Link Wireless N routers.
UPDATE: I realized last night that my files were not being overwritten with the modified ones, even though I was telling Root Explorer to replace the existing ones. I will delete the old wpa_supplicant.conf file before copying the modified version next time, to see if it makes a difference. Right now I am restoring everything that I had on the GTab little by little after frying my wifi settings last night. I couldn't get it working, so I did a factory reset and lost everything.
ANOTHER UPDATE: Yep. That was my problem. My modified wpa_supplicant.conf file was not replacing the original one. Once I deleted the old one manually, and copied the modified one in its place, it worked. I can now tether to my original Motorola Droid. I am using a program called AdhocAble to switch easily between two different wpa_supplicant.conf files (one for adhoc, and another for infrastructure).
I have an EVO but I get stock on obtaining ip address - any suggestion?
Works flawlessly tethered to my DX.
i connected my blackberry bold 9780 to my laptop and i use it as a modem. i then used virtual router to share the 3G connection to my motorola xoom wifi. i can go online using google chrome just fine but all the other other apps, whether default or downloaded, refuse to connect online. im wondering if it's an adapter setting that i need to adjust or something. p,lease help. i am very frustrated at not bein able to use internet depending apps. it breaks my heart.

I don't understand...you are basically using your Blackberry/laptop configuration to make a mobile hotspot, right? If the Xoom can access the wifi signal for one app it should be able to for any app. Maybe I'm missing something. Can you give more explanation?

I connected my blackberry bold which has 3g to my laptop which broadcasts the connection via wifi. The chrome browser and android market and other goodies apps connect but installed apps don't connect. Plus I recently bought a huawei e5 mobile 3g wireless router. I got my xoom connected to the network but right now only the browser goes online,. The other apps just do not. I don't know what other piece of detail I can give other than the fact that my Xoom wifi is not connecting to 3g networks broadcast via wifi. Any ideas?
This is really very strange... I switched my 3G-Xoom into flight mode and then activated WiFi (so it basically behaves like a WiFi-only Version) and connected it to my mobile (Samsung Galaxy S) and all apps are able to access the internet. Connecting ist to a UMTS-Router (Option GlobeSurf) also worked like a charm...
Did you try to connect your Xoom to a WiFi-Router at home (= Internet access via cable not UMTS)? Does this work or do you encounter the same probs?
Has anyone been successful in getting wifi tethering (mobile hotspots) to work on a CM10 rom? I use wifi tether for root users. And it seems to work when I connect from a laptop or PC with wifi but it just doesn't seem to wanna work when I try to connect another android device such as an sgs3. Is there some kinda setting or something I'm missing? I'm using a P6200

hi,
searched a long time for the solution of the same problem... seems it´s like a strategic plan of t he producers... if it would be easy nobody would pay the 100 euros difference to upgrade to a 3g version...
found a solution (not perfect, only for emergency cases) for me: i installed open garden wifi tethering (from market) onto my htc hd2 - miui (stable version 6 by langthang). hence in its settings: activate "use bluetooth connection (pan)". enable bluetooth on the tab.
start tethering by pushing the large wifi-symbol on handyscreen. give superuser permission; confirm the pairing. just wait some seconds; then you have to enter into the settings of the new paired bluetooth device on the tab (in my case its simply called hd2) and activate the internet-option.
Now it should work (you can see the traffic on the handy-screen)

Does moto g has miracast support in 4.4.3? I will have a new smart tv at home today and can't cast screen on 4.4.2 without toot. I don't want to void my warranty now and 4.4.3 isn't available in India yet. So, does moto g officially support miracast in 4.4.3 without root so that I wait for it or is there any other non root way to use miracast?
Personally, I use FlippsHD (recently free on Amazon app store) and if you have YouTube "leanback" on the Smart TV - you can pair with the app on your Moto G and cast. Neither option requires root.
https://www.youtube.com/pair
I managed to get miracast on moto g by adding persist.debug.wfd.enable=1 in build.prop but still, one more problem, when my devices connects to tv through wifi direct, it says obtaining ip address and then, it disconnects :crying:

Same experience here running 4.4.2. Maybe 4.4.4 or 4.5 will finally fix this.

I atleast hope we get 4.5
I've been trying out 4.4.3 and can confirm Miracast now works perfectly (on Sony Bravia TV). You still need to add persist.debug.wfd.enable=1 in build.prop. I notice there is another line in the build.prop (may have been there in 4.4.2): (which I also enabled but may not be necessary)
##property to choose between virtual/external wfd display
persist.sys.wfd.virtual=0
Additionally, Allcast and some other DNLA apps that did not work correctly in 4.4.2, now run fine.
Additional points about Miracast in 4.4.3 / 4.4.4:
When Miracast screen mirroring is enabled; Moto G looses it's (WiFi) internet connection. This may only be the case with Stock firmware - as I have read that CyanogenMod often solves this issue on other phones.
Another question is whether the Moto G has the required hardware; if something specific like Dual-Band WiFi is required for Miracast to work simultaneously with WiFi Internet.
Since Miracast on Moto G is disabled by default; it would appear unlikely that Motorola will provide any support regarding this feature.

I thought it wifi was turned off in every phone, I read that somewhere for htc phones. As for me, my tv can't just connect with my phone through wifi direct, but it connects with a samsung galaxy star. Motorola's fault, I got this issue to live assisstance and he said that he too wasn't able to connect through wifi direct.

Miracast is supposed to wirelessly mirror the screen without any limitation.
Check out this video of a Samsung Galaxy S4 - all internet apps work fine:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JxSJ57Q3zak
There are a few posts on XDA discussing this:
[Q] screen mirroring and network simultaneously?
miracast and wifi
From the above thread:
I just registered to let you guys know that i got Miracast and a WiFi connection working. First I connected the tablet to the WiFi, then activated screen mirroring and lost the WiFi connection, went to the WiFi section on settings and pressed the WSP button cancel it and the device connected automatically to the WiFi network without losing the screen mirroring function, hope that it works for you guys, best of luck.

I don't really care if wifi disconnects after my phone connects through wifi direct, just the problem is that I can't connect

As I have already stated, Miracast does work for me with 4.4.3.
UPDATE:
It could well be TV (Sony Bravia) specific, but from testing:
i) 'Settings > Wifi > WiFi Direct' will connect sometimes.
ii) 'Settings > Display > Cast screen' always connects but no Internet on phone.
If anyone can test these out with 4.4.3 / 4.4.4 based custom ROMs please report back. Android L could fix the internet part or it may never be possible with Moto G's hardware. Other than that; the Miracast mirroring seems slick and responsive. I did not check gaming lag.

I'm sure it's a software limitation, since my cheap Chinese phones and tablet can use miracast without the need to make a direct connection to TV... They use the WiFi network... Both devices (phone/tab and TV) only need to be connected on the same network...
Only the moto g needs a direct connection to TV...
Enable miracast on moto g3 no root!!! Gauranteed

Just install mirror on your moto and all cast reciever on your tv or pc
Both are by clockword mod
Then open mirror and connect to the same wifi network your tv is (mobile hotspot will not work)
Now open all cast reciever on your tv and now go back to mirror on your Moto you will see an ip adress or a name example smart tv then click on it then click no thanks and the on the second diolouge click ok AnD then bam you will see your screen appear on ur tv or monitor sent by my moto g3

Hello I'm sorry if this is in the wrong spot, but I am new to these forms and I have a simple question about creating an access point on my tablet. My Lenovo tablet is rooted and I've been searching for an app that will create an access point.
What I want to do is use my wifi and then use my tablet to connect to that wifi and then use the tablet as a wifi extender. I know they have fqrouter2, but that is for any os under 4.4. I'm currently on 4.4.4. Any suggestions for an app that can turn my android device into a wifi extender?
Thank you in advance.

Yes I have tried Pdanet. That will disconnect me off of my current wifi and try to host a hotspot off of my own cell phone data.

I don't think it's possible to have both WiFi and WiFi hotspot turned on simultaneously.
What I do though, is connect my phone to the WiFi, then use the Bluetooth tethering feature on the phone to create the access point. That could work for you, if all your devices support Bluetooth tethering.
The range isn't as good as your WiFi router, but its roughly as good as the WiFi AP you'd create with your phone/tablet
There use to be an app that was called Fqrouter2 that did. Unfortunately my worthless Vita doesn't support Bluetooth tethering for internet access.
