[Q] Changing Boot screen...will not change! - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Not the boot animation but the boot screen with the red lettering warning about it being for developmental purposes only etc.
It's been the ElementalX screen FOREVER and I cannot figure how to change it. I've installed probably 75% of the ROM's on this forum (even the 4.4 KK ROM's)...I've tried use ADB to clear the boot cache, I've formatted the whole phone and nothing works.
The boot animation itself will chance but just not the boot-up screen.
Any suggestions?

How did you change the splash screen to Elemental to begin with?

Ahh, splash screen...thank you. Couldn't remember what to call it.
I honestly don't know. I'm a flashaholic. I think I've actually installed 4 ROM's today alone but I've been stuck with this ElmentalX SPLASH screen for months and months.
I thought of doing the remove red text thing to see if that fixes it but seems like a relatively lengthy process.

I think that's your best option. Or I believe there's a thread by imagiox1 in our apps/themes section that has a bunch of splash screens, that's probably where you got it from.

[Q] Totally messed up my phone after attempting to get root.

I just tried to use this method on my Inspire today and there was an error when flashing back to the stock AT&T ROM after gaining S-OFF and root. When I try to start up the phone normally, it gets stuck on the HTC screen. When I try to boot into recovery, it just shows a black screen while the LED is green.
Anybody know what I can do to fix my phone?

I used the one click root method.

Sorry your link doesn't seem to work.
If you press the down volume and hold power can you get to hboot?
Try using bubby's tool to fix the CWM black screen. Its under the fixes link.
I can't seem to access any sort of recovery or hboot. Holding down both volume buttons and turning the phone on will result in the black screen with green LED. Holding the down volume button and turning the phone on does nothing.

Sorry go to Bubbys super one step and search for CWM black screen....
If it helps, the phone vibrates 5 times then shows a black screen.
Well I was able to get into HBOOT but when I tried to go into recovery, the screen would just turn black.
You need to get the stock rooted PD98IMG.zip into the root of your sd card. Then go to hboot and let the phone find it. Follow on screen instructions. Note the progress bar will be vertical on upper right. I bet that fixes you up on getting the phone working. Black screen on cwm is a whole nother issue. One that I share. I think I'm going to revert to stock unrooted and then our attn1 hack kit.
There is a solution you can eng s-off, but I would not advise this there is no need to eng s-off your phone.
The simplest way though it may take longer is to, revert to stock and reroot and s-off with the hack kit.
This is a very common problem with the one click. To be honest there is a thread made just like this twice a day.
Thanks for all the help everyone. I managed to fix everything on my phone. I just flashed the rooted AT&T stock ROM with HBOOT and then used the one-click ENG S-OFF method to fix the black screen on CWM. Now running CM7 perfectly. I'm glad I no longer have to send it back to AT&T.
kinder gentler XDA i guess. Last year posts like these would have been flamed right off the board. Thats not a bad thing, but new people are wasting everyones F'ing time with these posts.
RTFM! w/e it is you decide to do , how about looking for help in the dam thread you downloaded the stuff from? I duno maybe we have a bunch of people brand new to Forums or something.
Ok I don't mean to thread jack, I just didn't want to start a new thread for this. I've been running the Coredroid Rom since I first rooted my phone. I have never had any problems with my phone even when trying out other roms. Today I tried installing the new Coredroid 5.0. It all went well as usual except this time on the last step of the setup wizard, it said something like "setup has stopped working unexpectedly and will notify HTC" and only let me press ok to force close.
After that happened all I couldn't even go to my home screen. I then tried restarting my phone but got stuck on the Coredroid rotating logo. Only way out of that was to pull the battery cover. Tried going into recovery mode but the screen would just be black and I would have the orange light flashing. That didn't work so I tried restarting again. Again just got stuck on the spinning logo.....This is where **** gets weird. I began to receive a call while on the logo and that allowed me to answer thus leaving the spinning logo. I still could not go to my home screen. I could only use the drop down notifications menu. I restarted my phone again so I could call myself while on the logo and again it got me unstuck from the logo. Only way to fix every thing was to use the search option and run Rom Manager and recover from my previous back up.
So I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else? I always fallow instructions and hardly ever have any problems but this was just odd. I felt like I had to solve riddles in order to get my phone working again.
See if you can boot to bootloader by means of ADB (adb reboot bootloader). If so reflash the stock rooted rom then reload CWM. You might need to Eng-S off if you have a corrupt file / bootloader? When done reflash CorDroid 5.0 (What I am running by the way)....
black htc screen
I tried to root my phone like an idiot because I dont know anything about this stuff and I got a black htc screen and i cant do anything. HELP!!
I see a lot of motivation in this and other threads to leave well-enough alone. Going to leave mine unrooted-stock.
I just had an excellent session of Google Nav where it performed exemplary. My phone does all I need and remains within the rules as the OEM wants it.

Animated splash screen?

I just updated my boot animation to a custom theme, but it seems the splash screen loads far more slowly. I would think it makes more sense to put an animated file there, but I am having trouble finding one. Can I simply load a .zip file to the location of the splash screen, or will that not work?
As I read more about this, it seems it might not be possible to have an animated splash screen. Has anyone been able to get around this?
From what I understand the .img file for the splash can not be animated.
There is no work around that I have ever seen.

No the image is needed....But you can make it black or another solid color instead.
Any idea where the splash screen is hidden away?
The splash screen is a mtd partition like the HBOOT is but is called SPLASH1.I think on the G1 There was SPLASH1 and SPLASH2 iirc.
You cannot remove the SPLASH1 as its kind of like the BIOS loading screen on your computer, It checks files are there before moving on to the bootanimation (POST BIOS if you like) You could always use the first frame of your bootanimation as the splash so it looks like it hangs before loading?
Yeah, that's what I intend to do. If you left it blank, you wouldn't even know it's turning on if it wasn't for the vibrate!
Just need to find a way for me to edit my splash screen then.

There is a thread in the apps and theme section right above your post about a livewallpaper that has a good splash tool.
Sent from my Coredroided Sensation!
Yeah, just tried it. It won't let me pick my own image though for some unknown reason!
In the Coredroid ROM thread there is another splash tool in the first few post.
Sent from my Coredroided Sensation!
It's okay, figured it out. That splash flasher batch file is written wrong.
What's happening is it's converting your image to custom.img, but it then tries to push splash.img onto the phone. There was already a splash.img bundled in the zip file, hence that was the one that kept showing up!

Power it down.....press volume down & power at the same time.......welcome to HBoot. You can do everything the info in the link I left you explains right from there and/or from Recovery or with ADB in the SDK.
A battery pull will shut it down.....volume down, power & pressing the trackpad for 5 seconds will give you a reboot from a hangup.
(I hope you're doing the req'd reading or phone modding isn't going to go well for you) .....just an FYI

Battery pull.
Hold Volume down, press power to get into recovery.
This happened to me two days ago... And I probably know less than you about how to fix it.
I ended up using Hasoon's unlocker tool to flash the boot image from the rom I had flashed after mounting the phone via Recovery.
As someone said, with S-ON you have to flash the boot/kernel or whatever separately...

Also i didnt backup my stock phone....its not brick its a soft brick this is what i know. how do i get my phone back working? please help me!!! anything to point me in the right direction would be a great help....thank you
It would be good to have some more information about your device. S-off/S-on? What revovery do you have? If you are S-ON search for Asskicker's guide in the general section "Flashing roms with S-ON".
I used the htc one x tool to root and its s_off. Im usong cwm recovery. I thonks its on a soft brick because I didnt have it chrged qhen I tried to flaah it. What othr info do u need? I justt put the s_on back on thinking that would help but it didnt. Im all out of ideas I know my phone can be aaved I juat need help. What so I do???
Right it is quite difficult to understand what you are writing. So are you currently S-OFF or S-ON? What is you current HBOOT version?
By the way! Why did you use the ONE X tool? I know it is stated somewhere you may use it for the Sensation as well but there are other utilities tailored for the Sensation. Like kgs1992's All in One Utility! You should use that and you cannot go wrong! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1668276
You want to be s-off (because life is easier when you are s-off)
For whatever reason, maybe low battery related, it sounds like your ROM didn't flash. This wasn't a big deal until you turned S-on again, thus making it more difficult to do these things.
Did the recovery give you any error during the flash? What screen is it stuck on? The splash screen (HTC logo) the boot animation (Blue circle with CyanogenMod in the middle) the recovery screen (mostly basic text telling you error messages)
If it's stuck on the splash screen....we'll discuss that as need
If it's stuck in the recovery screen giving you an error that you can't flash with the battery so low, charge the battery. Proceed with flashing.
If it's stuck on the boot animation...chill out and give it a few minutes. It takes time to boot the first time. If it stays on the boot animation for more than 10 minutes, reflash the ROM with the instructions below.
Turn s-off again if you can.
Boot back into recovery
Do a full wipe in CWM
Flash the ROM again.
If that doens't work download a fresh copy of the ROM and flash that instead.
If you're still stuck come back with VERY SPECIFIC details on what is on the screen where it gets stuck. And please, read your post first and correct gramatical errors. I assure you this will greatly help the XDA community to be able to help you instead of us trying to guess what you are saying.

[Q] No android 4.x version works on my device

Hey all, how you doin?
I recently bought a used Desire S in very good (almost as new) condition, since a car drove over my last one and smashed it two years ago. I simply love this phone so I just had to get another one. It was factory locked, s-on, no sim-lock etc.
Bootloader stats at the moment (after unlock, s-off, downgrades and upgrades) are:
*REVOLUTIONARY*
SAGA PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT-7.00.1002
RADIO-3831.19.00.110

Aug 22 2011, 15:22:13
My problem is following:
On my older device I had CM7 running, no problems whatsoever. On my newer Desire S, CM7 works just fine as well, but I simply can't flash CM10.1, 10.2 or 11 successfully. Flashing itself works just fine (I use 4EXT v1.0.0.6 RC1), but after the first reboot it always gets stuck at the white screen with the green HTC logo. I also flashed the boot.img files for each rom, also tried without flashing them. Tried factory resets after installations, before. I tried full wipe (all except SD), I tried normal wipe, nothing works. When I install stock 2.3.3 RUU with sense (2.10.401.5), it works just fine. When I update to 4.0.4 RUU, installation completes successfully, but then reboots and gets stuck at the white screen again. I don't even get boot loops or don't even see the CM logos. It seems like my device doesn't accept any android 4 version.
Does anyone know what could cause this? I'm searching for days and can't find anything.
Thanks.

And yes, this seems to have been the problem all along. I do have a Hitachi panel. I followed the instructions as stated in the first link, downloaded a compatible kernel to flash after the flashing of my rom and gapps. Then came the reboot, again stuck at the white screen but it seems as if the rom boots normally, just the white htc screen doesn't go away. The screen turns off after half a minute, but pushing the power button it turns on again (as if I unlock). When I put my finger on the screen, I hear the button sounds as if I was typing in the PIN, it also vibrates. So it's like the screen is just there and hides everything behind it. Any ideas why?

The thing is, there doesn't seem to be anything that's loading. It looks like the rom booted up normally, up to the "enter pin" screen, waiting for me to enter the pin. Which I can't do since the htc logo is still in front of it. Took the battery out a couple of times, flashed anew also, tried another release, too. Nothing works. I left it for over half an hour to see if anything chances, the screen just goes out after a minute as if the rom is there. Pushing the power button lights the screen up again (phone doesn't go out when the screen goes off). Maybe a different rom?

Tried, didn't boot at all. I can't stand seeing that HTC logo screen over and over again.
I can't help but wondering why it doesn't go away after flashing CM10+kernel, since it
seems to boot normally. Except I don't see it behind the white screen
OK, just flashed Balele V2.1 ROM, with the kernel for 4.0 version and it works!
So if anyone should ever have the same problem, here's a solution!
