USB data connectivity - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey !
Recently bought a used n8010 tablet, It only had a 3m cable and charger, when connected to pc it would only charge but wouldn't be recognized
So, bought a 1m data/charge cable on ebay
First one received wouldn't fit in the tablet, so I contacted seller and he sent a new one, that can plug in (but not the same as first one, this one got an arrow on one side), but, pc still doesn't recognize it
I really wanted to root it for GMD S pen control and eventually flash a custom rom, and was potentially thinking about reselling the tab if not totally satisfied with it
So now I'm wondering, did he send me a charge only cable, or does my tablet have a problem ? Am I doing something wrong ?
Thanks for help

Bump
Bought another data cable and also got a usb otg cable with it, but, same happens, usb otg doesn't seems to be working ?
Not sure it should on this tablet idk, but data cable also only charge, tablet doesn't show on the pc ?
Any idea ? Could usb be broken ? and only be useable to charge ?
Any way to root without odin ? And transfer all on wifi with airdroid or other app
Thanks for help

Please provide more info:
What OS is on your PC (Win7/8,OSX,Linux?)
Have you installed Samsung Device Driver (Win7/8)?
Have you installed ADB (all....but I don't think Linux required one)?
What USB port do you have on your PC (USB2 / 3) ?
Have you tried factory reset?
Have you flashed Custom Recovery?

1. Win7 x64
2. I reinstalled Kies, but think I had samsung drivers already, for my Note 2
3. Not sure what it is, never used it
4. Usb2 and I think I got 1 or 2 usb3 behind, didn't test
5. Nope, it had already been when I received it
6. Nope, Any possibility without usb ?
7. Tablet running android 4.1.2 N8010XXUCMH2
Today I'll be meeting someone with samsung ekit and a working cable so we'll test this

1. Look at your Win Device Manager if there's broken driver sign &/or conflicted device with your N8000.
2. Kies is troublesome,so I won't recommend Kies.
Try to install Samsung Device Driver only.
3. ADB = Android driver, usually included in the samsung device driver.
4. If you plug it into USB3, make sure you have an updated USB3 driver (it is extremely rare case of incompatibility)
5. Factory Reset once more
6. No/Maybe, most mobile device can use the microSD to flash firmware but I haven't searched about it.
Worst case scenario is....you have a broken set of device :s
UPDATE:
Method 1B
You can find and download the update.zip by yourself, place it on the phone in /sdcard/ and boot into recovery using the 3 button method, choose the option "re-install package" TWO TIMES to load into CWM. Once again the update.zip needs to remain on the phone. DO NOT DELETE!

Sooo, the ekit didn't light up, DATA seems really broken :s
Found that the connector would cost ~25e if I change it myself, but not sure I'll try :/ I also need to change the screen again about 30e (not lcd, but seems lot dust under it, and it's not perfect :s), back got some scratches :s. + Maybe the mb is broken for data ? Can't tell :s
Is if possible to clean dust without changing the screen ?
Idk what to do, try to resell ? (bought 260, ;s maybe can get 235 ? It's a 32gb version)
Also, about cwm, If I install it that way, If I factory reset from android, will it delete files ?
Not sure what's the best

Check this out.
Charging Port Flex Cable Repair Parts for Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 Tablet N8000
Most of the time it's the 30 pin charging/data port that broken. Broken Mobo is extremely rare.
You can use a small air compressor to clean the dust by opening the case of your N8000 unit.
About CWM...
Flashing CWM won't erase any data, but Factory reset will.
But the data it erase won't be in Internal SD (Virtual SD - /sdcard) & External microSD (/mnt/extSdCard)
If you want to fully wipe your device, do a backup first & do the wipe via CWM.
Use WiFi connection to do the Backup if you decide to fix it.
...and if you want to hide the scratches, use a slim Cover Case
The Options:
Re-sell the unit
Repair the unit
This is a cutting lost situation, calculate the cost for both options.
If you are unsure, better to re-sell it or if you can return it.

HTC Sensation wont connect to PC (only charge)

Hey, i have had my sensation about 2 months, now when i connect it to a pc it dosnt ask what connection type to choose, it only charges, in the menu it is set to ask me about connection type, while connected to pc there is now no icon in the notification area (used to say 'charge only' or 'disk drive') even when rebooted into 4ext recovery and mounted/toggle usb connection, it dosnt connect as a disk drive like it has always done in the past, it only charges, i have tried 3 different pc's and 3 different micro usb cables, also have tried updating the firmware to 3.24 and installed ICS with the same result, i think its a hardware issue? last time it worked was 3 days ago connected via usb to a jvc headunit listening to my music files.
Weird problem!
Maybe you could try with a different SD card to eliminate the possibility of it being an SD card problem?
If it still doesn't work with another SD Card it may well be a hardware problem.

Well I had the same problem with the custom ROM I use.
Installing it clean with a full wipe solved it.
It is definitely NOT the pc, laptop or SD-card.
Are you on a custom ROM?
- Yes then install clean with full wipe. (make a nandroid backup!!!) and install all apps new.
- No then do a total reset (reset to factory settings) and do all the install stuff new. After that you can also install with RUU your ROM designated for your device.
You will see your USB connection will show up!!
same here
i have exactly the same problem as described in op.
will try flashing a new rom then also; first have to buy a flashcard reader then to get my new rom ON the sd card....
or do you think a nandroid restore would fix the problem? will try that first.
Will report back
The nandroid might restore the problem.I'd try it first.if not , then do the full wipe reinstall as said above .if at the time of the nandroid back up it was working is a good possibility it will fix the issue. Hope this helps!
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using xda premium
I am having the same problem ..... Dont feel like wiping and going stock.
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio using XDA
Couple of tips that might fix your problem.
If you're running aokp make sure you disable fast charge.
Turn on mtp in USB computer connection settings. I have trouble accessing the options from most custom roms, so a little work around is to install either apex or nova, long press add to home screen - shortcuts - activities - scroll down to Settings - USB computer connection(com.android.settings.usbsettings) . Tap it and you should get a shortcut. Select mtp.
Ultimately, the thing that fixed my same issue was getting a different USB cable lol. You can also try different ports on your computer.
Good luck, hope you can find a solution to your problem! If all else fails, you can try using airdroid for transfer over Wi-Fi
Anyone find a fix on this , mine has started doing this yesterday :crying:
Tried 3 different cables , different usb ports , different sd card , formatting sdcards in 4xt recovery , reflashing firmware.... also htc sync re installed for drivers (htc sync does not see the phone), adb re installed (adb does not see the phone??)
dont think its the rom as adb cannot see the phone in fastboot
anyone any other ideas , tried ninjasalad suggestion on enabling mtp also ??
I think you're fine. I had this problem after flashing ARHD 6.6.X, OrdDriod series, and PkMn series. What I did was the following:
Went into settings. Connect to PC. Unchecked the "ask me" , Restart phone. Then checked "ask me" again. Lastly, restarted phone again.
After doing that a couple times, it worked for me. Maybe you can try that.
This happened to me as well. I think it's a hardware problem

I can't do that because to enable usb debugging mode you have to use the phone and the phone's screen is completely broken and there's no way to even get into it using the touch screen.

Cant access Recovery Mode

Hi Guys,
I have my friends i9003 with me. Its having a weird problems :
1) It successfully boots after 5-6 tries, but eventually hangs after a min on home screen.
2) Its unable to enter recovery mode.
3) It can enter download mode, but its not detectable by odin/PC. As soon as i connect to PC, it shows usb device not recognized. I have tried 2-3 different pc's, uninstalled/reinstalled kies/samsung drivers etc. On the same pc my SGS1 & SGS2 can connect without any problems. So i guess the problem is with i9003. (So i cant flash anything on it)
4) And the last but not the least.....it cannot be charger (tried pc usb / charger). But the battery seems ok, as i can charge it using other phones and dock charger.
..........any help and advice will be really appreciated.
have u tried the hard reset button at the back between the camera and speaker.
I've a I9003L with the same problem (it's carrier locked), I think it has no recovery at all !
Maybe flashing CWM

Just wanted to make sure you didn't have a problem as obvious as I had. I had similar issue when i tried my micromax cable with this phone.
Well, you'll need some expert's advice now.
Looks liek i found the problem, its same as many i9003's are having. Internal memory card corrupted !!! Have found some risky solutions, but will try them, cuz the phone is already out of guarantee !
i had also faced the same problem but i was unable to do it with that solution u can refer my thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1735718 and i have given my mobile to the service centre for replacing motherboard

A bit of an emergency...

Hey there, guys and gals,
I'm having a bit of an issue here, and it's somewhat serious.
The issue is as follows. I have Android 5.0.1 on my Nexus 5. When I connect my computer to my laptop... nothing.
Nothing at all. It doesn't show up in device manager, not even as unknown. Fastboot doesn't detect it, nor does ADB. I can't do anything, and it's scaring me. I don't know how I could have broken it, but I need to know how to fix it.
I'm happy to do whatever to get it working, so please help...
Update: Tried to factory reset, to see if it would fix the issue. It's stuck "Erasing...", and won't go further. I'm afraid my phone may be hard-bricked... Is it possible to reflash these using JTAG, and if so is there anyone that can assist with that process?

Is it stock or what? are you rooted?
Also , keep in mind that the factory reset can take up to 30 minutes.
IMO it sounds like a busted cable/usb port on either side / incorrect drivers.
Edit : JTAG is not possible on our devices , access is locked from the chipset itself.
Are u on Windows 8.1 if so I had a problem with Windows thinking that my phone was a acer and I had to go the driver settings and manually tell it that it was a ADB USB connection then it would connect fine also could be USB cable I found the nexus 5 to be very picky about cables
Sometimes I get that but it solves by going into dev and checking and unchecking usb debugg, but sounds more like a busted usb plug
Have you considered that you may be using incorrect drivers on your PC? This issue can be caused by having improperly installed drivers.

Right. I'll address you all at once for ease.
Firstly, the USB connector functions fine. My USB-OTG cable still allows me to access files on a flash drive.
Secondly, drivers can't be an issue in this case. It won't even enumerate the device in device manager. As if the phone simply isn't plugged in.
Thirdly, Win8 isn't the issue, as I"ve had this phone connected to this computer many, /many/ times.
So it must be a problem within Android 5.0.1
But here's the problem. In order to install anything else, I'd have to install a recovery. In order to that, I need root. In order to root, I need USB. I'm lost, guys...
I just had an idea does towel root work on 5.0 if so u could try that?

Hmm... That might work. I'll take a look. But if it succeeds, then something gets broken later in the process, this thing is a paperweight, right?
Edit: According to http://forums.androidcentral.com/an...29-rooting-nexus-5-towelroot.html#post4125236 Towelroot will never be possible on Lollipop. I didn't go much further than that though...
Ya I just read that to bummer
Edit: as of now there is no way to root without pc sounds like u may have some sort of hardware failure I'm guessing only way to fix is to send it in and that's 150 bucks min

Well... This happened when I updated via OTA (after reinstalling the stock recovery) to 5.0.1 after 5.0. I did this all over USB. Immediately thereafter, it quit. I got it to boot, btw. The erasing problem fixed itself, and it's now running, but the USB is still stuffed. This is sounding more like software than hardware. Almost as if whatever chip talks via USB lost it's own firmware somehow.
Cable or driver 95% sure. Did you try connecting it to a windows 7 /linux pc ? And ... u can never be sure but try connecting to a usb2.0 port. I had those issues when I accidentally plugged my cable in my frontal panel ( usb3.0)
A few months ago I had the same problem, my phone got not recognized by adb or fastboot. I played around a whole day with drivers and stuff like that. At the end I found a post on the internet describing that not all USB cables are able to do adb connections and I should try the original USB cable that came with my Nexus 5. So I looked for that particular cable and hey presto it worked right away.
And 2$ usb cables do break over time. They might still charge , but one cold solder joint and no connection

I've tried multiple cables. I KNOW that this cable is fine for ADB, because it works fine for my other devices. All of them. I may be marked a newbie on the forums, but I'm really not one. When I first signed up for this account I was, but that was in what... '07?
I've tried:
Drivers (Obviously won't work.)
Cables
Rebooting
Factory Reset
Different Computers
Linux
Windows
Switching USB connection modes
Toggling Dev Mode/Debugging on/off
Nothing works. It HAS to be a software issue on the phone. I don't think anyone read it, but it's almost as if the IC that handles USB connections has lost it's firmware. I don't think that can happen, honestly, so it must be whatever's in the ROM that TALKS to that IC that's causing the issue. Problem is, I don't know how to fix the ROM without USB connection and Fastboot.

Its unlikely that the ROM will be the cause if the USB port suddenly stops working.
Do you have a custom recovery?
If not, then not much you can do except send it in for repair/replacement.

Stuck in recovery without an OS and i can't use the usb port.

Hi guys,
Two weeks ago, I decided to try another rom, as I often do.
I booted into the recovery, formated everything, and got the rom ready on my computer.
However, when I connected the usb cable to the phone, nothing happened. Strange, it had no problems before. Tried another PC and a few other cables (the original one too). Nothing.
The phone only charges but isn't recognized by any computer (it doesn't even show up in the device manager and there is no sound). The drivers are ok, it worked before that.
I also tried an otg cable with the rom on a usb drive and it doesn't see that either.
I thought, "great", my usb port data pins must be dead so I ordered one. I'm so lucky that i got a DOA one. (this one isn't even charging the phone)
So now I'm waiting for a new one or a refund.
Do you know any way to transfer a file/rom to the phone that has no OS (it boots fine in the recovery - twrp) without using a cable?
Thanks
I'm not sure of the finer details but can't you do it via fastboot. Or at least I would imagine you could install stock rom this way. ??? Like I said I'm no expert just a guess.
Good luck.

You cannot use fastboot without a USB connection to a computer.
Maybe there is some dust or dirt in your USB port. Try using some compressed air to blow it out, or try taking a small plastic knife or something similar and scraping it a bit. Once your computer recognizes is, then you can proceed.
It is possible that a windows update or something messed with the drivers. I would uninstall the drivers and start over.

No Fast Charge and PC connection

Hello colleagues, for 2 or 3 days I've experimented that I don't have a fast charge (and it can take me to charge it like 6 or 7 hours ....) and there is no way that it can recognize the computer, Problem, how do I get it to work ???
I tested several USBs? Yes, in two Windows and a Mac
Have I tried other cables? Yes, 2 official and one no official
I tested it with another terminal? Yes, my partner has another Android and connects on both the USBs and the different cables ....
Have I tested it with other ROMs? Yes, I have tried the Gold Eagle, the LineageOS .... the only thing I can not put a Stock by Odin because neither in Recovery nor in Download mode it recognize the PC .... (and is precisely what I want to do to try to fix the problem)
Only (I think) I would stay to try the Clear Internal Memory but of course, it gives me something to leave it as a brick because it does not connect to any PC ....
To finish saying that Drivers are installed (and that on 2 PCs with Windows 8 and 10 and on a Mac do not recognize me ... it is rare)
Thank you very much in advance and sorry for my English!!
You need latest Samsung USB Drivers, latest Odin3, latest stock firmware (use SamFirm) for your model and optional adb + drivers. Reflash with newest stock and you will see...
About FastCharging... You use orginal cable? And orginal dedicated FastCharger? If yes, must works... I never have problems with FastCharging on NNE5.1 ROM (look my signature).
P.S.
If the PC's not recognize phone how you put ROM's for example from PC to phone? Or is working only on some mode for example in recovery mode MTP option?

If the PC's not recognize phone how you put ROM's for example from PC to phone? Or is working only on some mode for example in recovery mode MTP option?

Hi, I use AirDroid, just to copy the ROMs into de Phone...but no, I canno't connect it by any form.....I tried in Recovery, Download Mode, changing the differents options in Developer Mode....nothing, there is no way to connect it to my PCs (It charges though..)
About the Fast Charing...yes, everything is original and with another cables neither....
That's weird and I'm pretty sure that with an Odin flash it will fit it but I cannot connect it!! (I tried everything, with differents drivers etc..)

Yes, I hear the "beep" but it appears this message (sorry if is not literally, is Google Translator):
"The USB device is NOT recognized, one of the USB devices linked to this computer has malfunctioned and windows has not recognized it "and I have a recommendation:" reconnect the device. If windows still have not recognized replace it ""
So it is connected, it charges but I canno't use it....in 2 PCs with Windows 8, Windows 10 and in a Mac with Sierra (In MAC it just do nothing..)
Look's like broken USB-port, some pin's or something... That can be also why fastcharging not working, only normal.
I'll keep trying and reading about it...I don't want to expend more money in this phone (I already changed the battery 3 months ago to improve...nothing ). But thank you very much for your answers!!

Because if you changed battery in S6 to new same battery that cannot give you so much... Current batteries do not wear out so fast through charging cycles, for example the battery from 2 years old S6 will hold almost same time as the new one (not half the time as it was in for example iPhone 5 after longer using). If you put battery from S7 Edge then yes, ofcourse... 1000mAh more. I will have orginal one in my S6 in monday, I let people's know how it's working (but i'm sure that's best solution, here can look: https://vordhosbn.com/index.php/blog/tech/galaxy-s6-battery-mod-s7-edge-battery/).
Same issue here

Did you manage to solve this problem.
Having same issue.
What is the status of your phone now.
Your USB port Is faulty or the wiring is coming loose internally. My s6 only charges on a custom ROM because the USB port has s power regulator that is not working and the stock ROM will not let the device charge. But the custom ROM let's it charge just fine. Its not a firmware bug because you have tried multiple Roms. In my opinion it is hardware related. If you want to open your phone I can help you further. But if you don't know how... DO NOT OPEN IT. the screen is glued and you will definitely break things if you don't know how to remove it
