[Q] Front camera in Snapchat broken CM11 - HTC One S

Hello,
I have CM11 installed on my htc one s, but the front camera doesn't work in snapchat; It does work in other apps, so is this a problem related to cyanogenmod not having the htc drivers or is this snapchat's fault? More importantly, is there a fix or a snapchat replacement app of some sort which enables the front camera?

Maybe try a newer release of CM 11
Sent from my HTC One S using xda app-developers app

I'm on the latest nightly and it's still broken

Same issue
My camera is stretched and sometimes freezes but only in snapchat. Any ideas?

There is a temporary fix I have been doing since very early CM11 builds.
If you copy a "camera.msm8960.so" from another ROM (I took the one from a GUMMY ROM), and paste it into system/lib/hw (delete/overwrite the old one - may be in capitals "CAMERA.MSM8960.so and not overwrite so must be deleted manually) then the front camera works fine with CM11.
I have issue with my Galaxy S4 and have always done this after installing a new nightly and it has been fine. (Posting here as I was looking for a proper solution through Google searches and saw you are suffering with the same issue)

Why don't they include this file in official cm11? is it HTC owned (not opensource) or something?

Not sure if this is still an issue for the One S, but it still is for the S4. I just did this and it worked, but I wanted to mention I had to use the camera file from a 4.1 ROM to do so. Hopefully that helps someone else.

I am having this issue as well. Is there a way you could zip up the file as I don't know how to extract the file from a different ROM. Thanks
Edit: I think it may just be a Snapchat issue, as my front camera works for the regular camera app

This is the file I use. Taken from an old nightly GUMMY ROM build for the Galaxy S4. It seems to work with every new CM11 nightly I install I so don't think it matters that the file is extracted from an older ROM.
EDIT: Can't seem to attach file so I have linked from my DropBox: https://www.dropbox.com/s/cnnx4gavx43e8v8/camera.msm8960.so

I tried this, restarted my phone, and neither Snapchat or the regular camera app would work. I put the original backup file back in and my regular camera app works again, just not Snapchat front camera

This file works for me on my S4. I paste it into the /system/lib/hw directory after flashing the latest nightly. (you must DELETE the existing file manually as pasting this file into the directory DOES NOT delete the other file of the same name but in capital lettering)
Also, this does not a complete fix for the Snapchat camera issues. I am now able to record video with the front camera however a lot of the time it will still cause the app to freeze or camera to lock up - requiring a phone reboot. HOWEVER this is a lot better than not being able to record ANY videos at all (as it is normally with the CM11 ROMS)
EDIT: the file is extracted from an old GUMMY ROM nightly in the system/lib/hw directory. If this file doesn't work for you, you could try extract the file from other non CM based ROMS and see if if your problem is fixed.

Thanks man it really works for me after some tweaks :highfive:
I don't think you need the file "camera.msm8960.so" from another ROM .
Here is how I did it:
1) In the path system/lib/hw, there is two files "camera.MSM8960.so" (13KB) and "camera.vendor.msm8960.so" (210KB)
2) delete the file "camera.MSM8960.so", but copy its exact name with the capitals. This is important cuz I believe it is case sensitive.
3) rename "camera.vendor.msm8960.so" to "camera.MSM8960.so" which is the exact name of the deleted file
4) make sure the permissions are set as follows: "rw- r-- r--" which is short for read/write OWNER, read GROUP, read OTHER
5) open snapchat and go for video setting change qualiy to low. after that, record a video with front camera and send it to urself.
6) finally put the video quality back to standard and ENJOYYYY it should work for u.

[MOD][May 24th]NFC while Screen Off/Locked 1.0[Sammy]

Introduction
Hey guys
Last night I got my new NFC tags and, of course, went ahead and configured one for my car. What it does is irrelevant (turns on Bluetooth and 3G, turns off Wi-Fi when I get into the car, and turns off Bluetooth and GPS when I leave it), but what's important is that I was absolutely sure I could use it when the screen is off or even unlocked.
It was a bit of annoying to turn on the phone and unlock the display to use an NFC tag, when the entire purpose of a tag (in my view) is to let me do stuff without touching the display!
I found a few apks, but all of which were reported to make NFC FC/crash or not work at all. The suggested solution based on the Xposed framework was unavailable due to site problems, so i decided to see how difficult it is to implement one on my own...
What is this mod?
This mod, as you might have guessed already, simply lets you use an NFC tag when the screen is off or locked.
Installation
Very simple indeed:
Download the included Nfc.apk file,
Do a nandroid backup (backuping your current Nfc.apk (located at /system/app/Nfc.apk) to someplace safe should suffice, but a nandroid is still recommended),
Copy the included Nfc.apk to /system/app/Nfc.apk,
Change permissions to 'rw-r--r--' ('chmod g-w', 'chmod 644' or your favorite file explorer),
Reboot.

Version 1.0:
First release!
Covering my *** part
I am not responsible for any nuclear wars that may result from downloading and installing this Nfc.apk, nor am I responsible for your device breaking, bricking, rebooting, data loss, etc.
About making this mod (and credits)
It was actually surprisingly easy. Figuring how to decompile the APK into a smali (using APK Multi-Tool), and where to go (Geniusdog254's explanation was simple but excellent) was quite easy, and from there it was the road to success.
Also, looking at the relevant code was very helpful (although Samsung added some extra checks, the original code to delete was still very much there).
I also made sure to delete only NFC-C related code, and not to touch anything else (including NFC-EE and SMX, UICC, CardMode, etc).
Do note I am using a DMB6-based ROM (Phoenix v10), but I compared the decompilation output of DME1 and the entire code is identical, so it should be safe to install on any DMB6-and-newer ROMs.
Also, this should only be used on a deodexed ROM.
Enjoy!

as always, its never wrong to make backup before flashing

Apologies, I never meant it to run a stock ROMs...
Give me some time to see if I can make it work on stock
No problem, If it is made for deodexed rom only then it would be better if you can edit title/OP

Good idea (didn't even think about it... ), but let me see if I can make it for odexed roms as well beforehand.
It is my first mod ever so bare with me

Just send me apk with this process
Reodexed your existing rom - deodexed again
Will check it, i have seen sometimes this works.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
As you might have known, the APK you sent me doesn't contain the actual code (the dex files).
I downloaded a stock odexed MC3 ROM and saw that the code is pretty much the same (didn't make sure), but it would not be possible to make an MC3-compatible odex file from my ROM (which is ME1).
Also, afaik, the odex file also contain other stuff (like dependencies and such), so I wouldn't try replacing the .odex file without re-odexing the entire ROM. Even after replacing the .odex file, I think matching files in /data also need to be replaced, and I read someplace that doing nasty woodoo like this might cause bootloops...
Is there anyone here who's running MC3 ROMs and willing to re-oxed it to its entirety and try this?
I'm getting ready to give this a try on Beans 17. Will let you know the results and shower you with thanks if it works.
UPDATE: You are officially my hero. Works like a charm.
Just ran it on beans 17 and it also works for me.
I'm curious to know how this will affect battery life.
Thanks for this great mod.
Is there any other chance to wake screen with NFC than tasker since secure settings and simplistic framework won't work with each other?
I tried installing it on my Droid razr maxx HD. No luck though . The NFC option disappears from the system settings.
EDIT: I'm retarded. It's probably because this is only modded for Galaxy Note II.
Just letting everyone this also works for AT&T Galaxy Note II LTE.
Awesome!!!!!!

A bit of shame not working on Akop rom. I liked your idea. Can I post the nfc from Akop if that can help?
Does this work for Verizon note 2?
Has anyone tried this on Galaxy S3 (GT-I9300 international).
Nearly forgot - I'm running OmegaRom 46.1 (4.2.2)
I want it for exactly the same reasons - nfc tag in car to switch on BT, sync with stereo and launch BeyondPod playlist without having to unlock.
This shouldn't work
Though send me framework-res.apk, twframework-res.apk and Nfc.apk (deodexed)
will look to it.
Hi,
what could be for reasons that the modified NFC-Version on my SG Note 2 LTE (German) does not work?
Does anyone have any advice?

You may have downloaded the wrong version - sounds like you flashed the 3100 version - which has 3G capabilities
Try downloading and flashing the 3110 version ( is the one to use for both the 3110 and 3113 versions )

That's part of the script I use to remove useless (IMHO) apps from my CM installs after each update. It should be safe to remove Phone.
If I'm unsure I have recovery with Aroma FM so I can always extract missing app from ROM zip and place it where it was.

[Q] XenonHD 4.4.2 - LG P880 aka 4x HD Bluetooth issue

First of all thanks for porting Kitkat to our device! This is a great rom, running smoothly on P880, however, I faced with an issue, which can be a "show stopper" for those who need bluetooth connections. Unfortunately, bluetooth can't be turned on. When I try to activate bluetooth after 4-5 secs returns to off state.
Have you experienced simalar problems? Have you found the root case? Do we have a solution or a workaround? Thanks!

FIX thanks to CM11
Hi.
I tried files from latest CM11 build for P880. I have inserted the files into the attachment in this post.
NOTE: THIS ISN'T A FLASHABLE ZIP. EXTRACT AND COPY INTO CORRECT FOLDERS
My work now. Turn on and see devices. I don't had time to test connection but i think is working.
EDIT: I tested for 1 week and use with no problem BLUETOOTH HANDSET and FILE TRANSFER.
There are 7 files.
3 into /system/lib
3 into /system/etc/bluetooth
1 into /system/vendor/lib
I take backup of files, copy on respectively forder and restore permissions
Owner RW
Group R
Other R
I see that don't need reboot but might help
Thanks to CM11

Hi there. If you open the zip the files are compressed with the correct path.
however:
/system/etc/bluetooth/
auto_pair_devlist.conf
bt_did.conf
bt_stack.conf
/system/lib
libbluetooth_jni.so
libbt-hci.so
libbt-utils.so
/system/vendor/lib
libbt-vendor.so
I used ROM of 10/02/2014 not the last 27/02/2014. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2639397)
Actually use it like my daily rom with only a problem with tethering not working.

Thanks for the build jrior!
I've been running 11/27 for a day now, very smooth and fast - too soon to say about battery life.
Just a heads up for anyone flashing - 11/28 and 11/29 the SD card doesn't work. On 11/27, you can't answer incoming calls and can't music over Bluetooth.
EDIT: No SD on 11/30 either.
Glad to see android lollipop on beautiful evita, thanks jrior001 ?
Would you like us to report what's working and what's not ?
Working Dialer and SD
This information is for those who are having dialer force close issues with 27/11.
I was playing around this morning, and noticed on 20141130 the dialer was working fine, but the SD was not accessible.
I rolled back to 20141127 and installed the dialer from 20141130, and it worked! So far everything is working great.
On 20141127 in settings->apps->all->Dialer you will see version 5.0-20f4e4c951. 20141130 has version 5.0-e46feea897. This one works.
You need to backup and replace 2 files to do this:
Dialer.apk in /system/priv-app/Dialer.
libvariablespeed.so in /system/lib
Replace the files and fix permissions to -rw-r--r-- (same as replaced file). Reboot and try it.
Files are included in the zip, don't try to flash it.
Thanks jrior for bringing this awesome ROM to the Evita. If I am out of line here, just say so.
Scott
Also, the latest Google Camera works great on this ROM, and fixes the 'squashed' preview when taking 16:9 photos.

Remember that is only an Alpha release, dont expect that everyone here try the new releases for you, you always can do a backup of your actual ROM and install this one if something goes wrong you always can comeback.
I will test the 12/01 version I used the 11/27 version and only notice one bug when receiving whatsapp on my lock screen went crazy shaking and disappearing background if I try to view the notification if I just went home and open the application this problem didn't occur.
12/01 Sdcard still broke, testing a pending fix from cm crew shortly
tested 12/01 version external storage is not mounted

My dialer appears to be working on 11/27, what issues did you come across that you needed the 11/30 dialer?

Where can I find the download link and can I flash this on GT-I9105P? Probably the thing that won't work is NFC but I don't use it anyways

I haven't uploaded my nougat builds to anywhere yet. I've made several test builds and fixed some SELinux denials, etc. but there's still a lot to do.

Here's a Nougat build for i9105:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4Z8DsxsJxQqTmFrc0FSNm9ZamM/view?usp=sharing
I couldn't get BT,, Camera and WiFi working (just yet?).
in-earpiece speaker, microphone and sounds are working.
To fix RIL, flash the supersu,
http://techxat.com/download-supersu-android-7-0-nougat-root-package/
install root file manager (i.e. ES File Manager) (adb install, MTP, micro SD card or by some another method...)
Navigate to the system "/system/" and open build.prop.
Add these lines
Code:
rild.libpath=/system/lib/libbrcm_ril.so
ro.telephony.ril_class=SamsungBCMRIL
ro.telephony.call_ring.multiple=0
ro.telephony.call_ring=0
mobiledata.interfaces=rmnet0
to the build.prop below
"#
# ADDITIONAL_BUILD-PROPERTIES
#"
I am too lazy to make an another build with those props included
My next build will have those included in the build.prop.

Those looks weird, because I have not applied all the workarounds to fix rotation, screenshot, etc.

Sure, if you find correct gapps for it (use odexed ones), but most of the apps probably will fail to open. I'm working on the SElinux denials, but I'm not good at fixing denials... What I think, most of the SELinux rules should be made from scratch....
NFC and Bluetooth seems to be fworking now. :good:
But no sound, probably because of lib_Samsung_Resampler.so gets denied by audioserver, but in permissive SELinux mode audio should work (at least it worked and I am lazy to read my dumped logs)?
Now, also camera works (at least worked before witching to video recording and re-opening camera) and typo in hex-edited libwvn.so is fixed (symbol error).
Help from other more skilled/experienced users would be great.

Great! I am not really skilled all that I've done is ported a lot of MTK ROMs and modified boot images, and ported recovery images,I tried maybe grabbing some libs from a Marshmallow ROM for S2 Plus and putting them in a flashable zip,but that ended up being a fail, the only thing that changed was it said that Wi-Fi is disabled, usually it would be blank lol
Btw did you add those lines for RIL to work to build.prop?
Yes, I did. I had screwed up one of my commits, that's why those lines didn't get included in my previous build.
